I wonder if some of the audio clips were made specifically for the trailer. I remember watching a lot of trailers to *_Beauty And The Beast_* (the 2017 live action version) and *_The Little Mermaid_* (2023 live action) and both used vocals/instrumentals/orchestration that didn't appear in the final films. For lack of a better description, it might simply be *_trailer-specific_* vocals and instrumentation. [ Although, some trailer vocals might even use edited vocals that artificially prolong notes for dramatic effect, or reduce their lengths to fit with the "trailer instrumentation" and _if not done properly may sound a bit off,_ or perhaps they may utilize the vocals from rehearsals/rejected takes for trailers; but that's merely speculation on my part....]
Fun Fact: the music from the first trailer you watched was actually an updated version of the Ms. Gulch theme from the original Wizard of Oz. Notice the passing of the violins and the drums and then listen to the original you hear the little flutes and how fast the violins are going.
I feel like that second trailer is a response to anyone who complains about musical films hiding the fact they're musicals in the trailer. Not that there can be many people who *don't* already know! 10:08 - is that a slowed down version of the Witch's theme from the original Wizard of Oz movie?
As people hane said in the comments the Wicked musical takes place before, during and after The Wizard of Oz, but some scenes in the trailers are from Wicked Part 2.
What you thought sounded like Moulin Rouge was actually a slowed down orchestral version of Miss Gulch/Wicked Witch theme from the OG Wizard of Oz film
So about your first question: i think the trailer just has scenes from act 2. And maybe you havent been to the musical before so you probably dont know but the musical always start with the song "No one mourns the wicked" which is everyone in Oz celebrating Elphaba's death. So yes, technically it starts in the future and Glinda starts telling the story and we go back in time. In the musical Dorothy's shadow is the only thing that appears of her in act 2 while throwing the bucket of water at Elphie.
i think a lot of the processing is because they're essentially doing mini remixes to make mash-ups and...it doesn't always work. There are parts you hear when they just put the clips straight from the song and they sound amazing and then others that is clearly like them trying to make key changes and stuff for a mash up
The new scenes may be scenes that didn’t make the Final Cut. It’s a way to re-energize the consumer right before the worldwide release of the film. If so, the scenes were just outside approval rates of the cumulative focus groups. Whatever the squirrel drum scene is, I’m here for it so I hope it’s in there!
I just saw the snippets of Popular and The Wizard and I. It almost sounded like there was some auto-tune. I know they sang live at least Ari and Cynthia. I hope its just for the clip. I also know that most recorded songs have a form of auto-tune. I'm just really excited to see the movies. I have faith in Jon Chu.
I have a feeling that the shot in the trailer where it shows Dorothy and company on the yellow brick road with the broom is probably going to be at the part in the overture where it’s the “ unlimited” theme!

Not to give spoilers, it I just saw it in theaters. The trailer does not do the film or the songs justice. It will blow you away. The soundtrack is now out. It’s worth a listen.
the "effects" on cynthia's voice are there because they are digitally removing the music from the vocal for this trailer, but the actual song will not sound like this.
Just saw the movie. I admit I went in as a skeptic because IMO movie remakes are rarely good, and it's 2.5 hours for Part 1. I've never been happier to be wrong. IT IS AMAZING!!! The performances are great, the things added fit seamlessly into the story without slowing down the pacing of the movie (the 2.5 hours flew by), and they took full advantage of the fact it is a movie, not a stage play.
After watching the movie I cannot stress enough - under NO circumstances should you listen to the soundtrack until AFTER you have watched the movie. I can’t tell you why without ruining some of the movie’s surprises. But trust me, you’ll have a better first viewing experience.

Wizard of OZ “Dorothy’s story” takes place over a few days in the timeline of wicked…which is over YEARS.
So excited for this reaction arghh!!!
I went to a screening tonight - MASTERPIECE - YALL AINT READY!!!
10:08 sounds like the wicked witch's theme song in the original movie when she's riding the bicycle in the tornado
Popular has key changes and is extended ariana has said the other day in in a interview
It is live singing in the movie
They just released a video that they are singing live for every take of this movie.
The singing is live everyone so excited to see wicked I will dress up in 💗 been waiting for years my number one favorite musical ever
The idea that a movie would not post tune the songs is crazy. Hollywood would never.
My guess is that they’ll have the live recording for the movie, plus a soundtrack/studio version… hence the variation in the trailers
Don’t wait to see this one… you want to see this in the theater. Do a watch along later - I don’t think anyone will blame you
They sing live every scene !! ❤
That part of the songs kinda being mashed up is the wicked witches them from the wizard of oz
The little animal playing the drums was actually a sugar glider lol 😂 12:01
As people hane said in the comments the Wicked musical takes place before, during and after The Wizard of Oz, but some scenes in the trailers are from Wicked Part 2.
The later half of Wicked takes place alongside the events of the Wizard of OZ, as well as after.
“I’m right!! I’m right!!” Everyone who’s seen the stage show, “Girl, you are so wrong!! You don’t even know the half of it!!”😂😂
That piece of music that you said sounded Indian is actually a slowed down version of the wicked witches theme in the original 1939 film
I’m so excited!! Taking my girls, and bringing lots of their friends to introduce them to the ✨magic ✨
Can you believe this is only part 1?!?!
In the musical Dorothy's shadow is the only thing that appears of her in act 2 while throwing the bucket of water at Elphie.
dorothy does “appear” at the end of wicked and the rewinding to de past has always happened in the musical so i’m lost there
i think a lot of the processing is because they're essentially doing mini remixes to make mash-ups and...it doesn't always work.
I wonder if there is two different takes based on Glindas take on "your green" and Alphies take on "your green" or how it felt in that moment
Wizard of Oz is in act two of wicked!
I think the whole wizard of oz thing that we see in trailers is happening in between the story of wicked
PLEASE go see it in theaters future you will hate present you if you don’t watch it in theaters first and then rewatch it with us because there will be lots of things u miss on ur first viewing
hate?
@@BlazeToAsh no I mean like she’ll be mad at herself in the future if she doesn’t see it in theaters because it was so good and such a cinematic experience
You do know that wicked and the Wizard of Oz are the same timeline, right? Act 2 literally happens at the exact same time. Also, that “Moulin Rouge” segment is the Wicked Witch of the West theme from Wizard of Oz.
I watched it and there was barely any affects on their vocals, they added some affects on the vocals on the trailers
Pls post the Ariana Grande concert on TH-cam pls
I heard we would see the story from multiple perspectives. I bet both those "youre green" are in the movie
Trailers are always different , since they do multiple takes they use different versions for trailers , they may be doing that for the songs too , also trailers aren’t always cohesive to the movie sometimes they jsut put things together to make it a cool looking trailer
Audrey, have you never seen Wicked?!
I saw the movie yesterday and you need to watch it in the movie theater
Don't worry, they changed the tempo, key, notes etc to go with trailer music. They always do to tease the songs. All to go with trailer music
I’m thinking/hoping that with the broader format of a movie they can include more of Dorothy and the original characters but adjusted to this alternate story
Not to give spoilers, it I just saw it in theaters. The trailer does not do the film or the songs justice. It will blow you away. The soundtrack is now out. It’s worth a listen.
the scenes of Dorothy and the gang are mostly likely shots from Wicked: Part 2.
The singing in the trailers our cut down and edited that’s why it sounds funny but in the actual movie it’s great
the "effects" on cynthia's voice are there because they are digitally removing the music from the vocal for this trailer, but the actual song will not sound like this.
Fiyero has always been the one that takes the lion cub in that scene.
