You need to listen with both headphones on your ears at the same time to hear the sound like it should be, (not just the right one, leaving the other behind your ear). It was done in Dolby ATMOS, so since Cynthia was on the other side of the screen you will be able to hear the full sound of Cynthia without the echo with both earphones on.
There is definitely an echo. I listened to it on both my headset and earphones. And not listening to it with only one side of the headset is not a reason for something to sound like it echoes.
@ whatever u say “lol” that doesnt even correlate with what i said. and its thr audio quality on the official video it doesnt sound like that at all on the soundtrack or the movie so no its not because its a mix between speaking and singing
Cynthia didn't sound echoey at all when I saw the movie in the theaters. I think it's your headphones or something. I've watched the What is This Feeling video several times at home and never noticed an echo. I wouldn't wait until it's on streaming to watch; I really think this movie is worth seeing in theaters!
i think it also makes sense because of the cubby they call a bed shes laying in is more closed then galindas bed where she was singing and they sang in the room
@@ImMattFromAus the movie sound design people panned ari and cynthia's voices to each side as they were on the sides of the room! therefore if you have your headphones on one side only (like audrey) then youll hear one singer's voice and the other will be echo-y (from the ambience) so its best to listen with both sides in

I think the reason Cynthia sounds a little more echoey at the beginning is because Glinda has this wide open room with plush furnishings and drapes meanwhile she sticks Elphaba in a little alcove off to the side and because Elphaba wasn’t expecting to stay there she didn’t have anything with her so her room is bare walls and minimal furnishings, realistically there would be acoustic differences in the two spaces
She certainly sang while performing the stunts, but that doesn't mean that the final vocal performance is her singing from the set. They can legitimately and honestly claim that everyone sang live and that all the live performances were recorded while still using other recordings for the final produced songs. Almost no movie or TV show is ever recorded with single takes, and the audio would not be any different than the video. These songs are not recordings of any single song sung from beginning to end and not edited. They most likely took bits and pieces from many different takes, cut out audible breathing, and did other studio effects to get the final songs. So they can honestly claim all the songs were sung and recorded live while simultaneously patching together many different recorded versions to get final versions of the complete songs.
@@DavidMichaelCommerI think it’s more so they do have mikes on, and they can get the solid sound live, then put everything together. Running and singing? 100%. Just wait until you see Defying Gravity because Cynthia sings the last half of that song flying around on wires, in a harness AND corset and is singing live the entire time. She did all her own stunts and was pulled and whipped around through the air in every direction, including upside down, loop de loops and all kinds of craziness. To keep her cardio and vocal stamina up, Cynthia started her cardio (running and biking) at 2am EVERY morning. She ran or biked for MILES each morning, all while singing the entire time to get used to singing like that. Then, around 4-4:30am, she immediately went from her cardio to hair and make-up for 2½ to 4 hours (depending on how much of her body needed to be green for that day's scenes). It's insane but it paid off 1000x over.
You have to watch the movie in its entirety and you'll change your mind immediately. It's BRILLIANT! The singing is amazing. You will be hooked and seated instantly by the opening sequence, which is a breathtaking cinematic masterpiece accompanied by the iconic score. It transitions into a BRILLIANT opening performance of No One Mourns the Wicked, which is so much better than the stage musical version. Virtually every performance is better in the film version because you get to see and feel SO MUCH MORE emotion in the performances. Defying Gravity is awe-inspiring and more POWERFUL than ever! You get to see Elphaba come into her power unlike any version you've seen before, thanks in part to the addition of so many amazing cinematic moments to heighten the experience. It's a truly masterful, jaw-dropping showstopper! "The Wizard and I" is great and so much more nuanced than the stage version. It builds and builds throughout until it reaches an explosive climax at the end, similar to Defying Gravity, but to a lesser extent. Popular is phenomenal! What a showcase for Ariana! The same can absolutely be said for Jonathan Bailey in Dancing Through Life, too. That's probably the best dance number also. Cynthia is breaks your heart with, "I'm Not That Girl." The entire film is WOW moment after WOW moment. All that to say, trust us...don't judge the movie, music or songs until you see them in the context of the entire movie experience.
@@SongsFromASuitcase you literally only have the headphone on for arianas side of the screen it pans from ear to ear so you weren't listening to it properly
You deserve to see this one in the theatre! Knowing you experienced it for first time the same way we all get to is what we want! 🥰A review will do just fine! And I love the new bob!
1:00 It could be that because Elphaba is in an area that's enclosed (she's got a sort of cubby to sleep in), it makes the sound seem hollow while Ariana is in an open space (in the larger part of the bedroom), and therefore can be heard better without the tinny sound of being so enclosed.
Lady you’re killing the vibe. The movie was absolutely insane. You will leave the theater with no bad feelings. Why not go watch it before posting spot what everyone else has already fallen in love with. Cynthia sounded angelic the entire time. Ariana included.
Killing the vibe how? I appreciate that she is waiting to watch live with her fans. Everyone has their own opinions. I personally didn't care for Cynthia's vocals throughout most of the movie. I loved her acting tho.
Some people are just rude. I wouldn’t feel the need to say that I didn’t like somebody’s vocals when other people are saying they love it. I don’t understand why it’s hard to keep that to yourself. Especially when it’s showing a total lack of taste and credibility, lol.
Jaron M Legrair Studio has put out some reactions to Wicked. He used the soundtrack, not clips from the movie, but they're really good, if you want some more reaction content.
It’s because the area where cynthia erivo is a bit smaller in terms of space within the room. While ariana grande’s area in the room takes up most which is why it’s not echoing.
What is the exact interview you’re talking about? I have watched several interviews with the cast, director, costumer designer, and more. The only thing I’ve heard any of them say is that the vocals you hear throughout the film are *all* live vocals, which makes your comment fascinating to come across, lol.
@@kate_m_k88 It was actually an interview with the OG himself, Stephen Schwartz. He said it was "mostly" live where they could. But there were parts where they had to record it in studio.
It was all live but they spliced in different takes when there was a sound issue or something. There might’ve been a few pick-up lines in the studio in parts where the vocal sounded too crunchy in every live take. Many people who worked on the movie have said it was fully live other than the orchestra
This was my favourite scene of the movie. The choreography and the cut are just perfect! I was so critical about this movie, because it was so hyped. But I loved it.
Please watch in theaters. We will still watch these song reactions and eventually your reaction to the full movie, even if it’s your second or third time watching. We don’t want you to deprive yourself of this amazing theatrical experience 😊. Also, the way this movie flows, you just get completely caught up in it as an audience member. You can’t get that feeling if you are watching the songs on their own, and if you have to keep pausing to react / to avoid the TH-cam copyright monster 😂. Do yourself a favor-just watch it for pure enjoyment in theaters, and worry about analyzing later.
Girl, you need to catch up. They are signing live. They have talked about it over and over in every interview. Have you been under a rock? And put both headphones on. Cynthia is not echoey. You won't hear that in the theater. Wait until you see Defying Gravity where Cynthia is flying and singing.
The movie is absolutely stunning vocally and visually I hear what you’re saying but it does sound better on the soundtrack to be fair Cynthia’s talking voice is pretty low and all her vocals other than that part that you’re picking at are absolutely f*cking amazing Go watch the movie please so you can see what I’m saying it’s such a different experience
Erivo’s vocals sound “echoey” to you because it’s panned stereo sound and for some reason you’re only wearing one of the headphones. You’re not going to get the full recording by listening to only one channel and kind of half-hearing the other.
So from what I have learned, during one of Cynthia's interviews. they had mic'ed the whole set design. So everywhere they turned there was a mic to pick up what they were singing.
No I promise it's not echoey in the theater I think it might be the way that you're wearing your earphones as others have said. You need to see it in theaters where the panning vocals works better.
They sing live when filming but they usually go in and put the studio soundtrack in. You can tell it’s the same recording as the studio one on Spotify. They may have recorded it live, but the producers probably went in and put in the studio recording into the final edit.
As I understood from one of the chorus members on TT, she said that the chorus recorded demos before production so that the principles could sing with it and after the final takes for the principles were chosen the chorus came back to re-record to match. Chorus because they're not in the movie but they sing. The stomps et all is the work of the foley artists.
Hello, Everybody! How is no one getting this? At this point in the song Elphaba is still tucked away in a corner of the room that Galinda has “allowed” her. This only begins to shift as the scene progresses and they battle for space. You have to “watch with your ears” and “listen with your eyes” for it to all come together. To the OP - Go watch it in the theatre first, then these things won’t bother you listening to then out of context.
Wow. Amazing vocal analysis, and you need to sing more in videos. I had no idea just how talented you are. Please sing more as examples in your future videos
Christopher Scott was the choreographer. If you’ve ever watched so you think you can dance, he did choreography pretty much every season there and won several Emmy awards for his work.
You should watch the movie in theaters as well. You can still react but the experience of watching it uninterrupted is something you don’t want to miss.
I’m in amateur musicals and had to sing live on stage whilst dancing, running and fighting to the beat of music sometimes all in one scene, so if I can do it, they should be able to. Also I did this while being over 300ibs. It weight, which takes its toll on the body and breathing. I feels that the sing talk that Elpheba uses sometimes didn’t do the sound justice but also showed how over this whole situation the character is. So maybe it was a character choice that the technical team wasn’t prepared for?
fun facts apparently Ariana is a wicked fangirl, and this is my fav song from the whole thing i mean i always found how the setup is classically the first-time good vibes set up then it becomes a rug pull talking about how they hate each other to be hilarious
Go see in theaters!! It's better to have your opinion more settled than an empty first reaction. With a rewatch you have time to mature and construct your opinions!! Also see the differences with the experiences.
Maybe it’s because she’s supposed to physically be in the small, tight corner of the room she’s singing in and it’s still supposed to sound like they’re bantering and not performing the song
You need to see Cynthia and Ariana's full performances. Cynthia is AMAZING throughout the film, as is Ariana Grande. In a film (vs a stage musical), isolated performances just don't do the film justice.
I feel like the echo really is cuz Cynthia is in the tucked away corner of the room & Ariana’s bed is in the more open area. Even though you may not like it, lol, I’m pretty sure it is intentional😅
You need to WAIT until the movie releases to listen to all of the songs!! Mainly because the soundtrack vocals have pitch correction when the movie versions dont
whos gonna tell her the songs is the studio soundtrack and theyre just singing live in the background so the sounds actually feel like theyre singing...................... mama!!!
@@ryann8769 yes sung live and then recorded in the studio, i mean come on if the audio was live there would be too much going on in the back. ryan lets use our brians 😪😪😪
Jonathan Bailey, guy who played Fiyero, said in an interview with BBC Radio 1, that they didnt have a studio recording and it was all recorded live in the set. I might have misinterpreted this argument or the interview and might be completely wrong but just thought i should add it....
You are wrong on this one. The lyrics were sung live on set and it was recorded live on set. They have tons of BTS videos too and everyone part of the production said it was live singing. The sound team turned each set into a recording studio.
Not watching this movie in the theatre is a GIANT loss! Everything is SO MUCH bigger and grander! Don’t miss out on it! Streaming will never reach that epic feeling
I think the vocals were an experimental choice done on purpose to put emphasis on how empty Cynthia feels inside by using the visual of her sparse area of the room with nothing but herself and the bed and then recording her vocals with a lower quality mic that further emphasizes her not coming from wealth ( that is a subconscious conclusion we naturally take note of) Then the dynamic of Ariana who is wealthy, surrounded by her wardrobe and other belongings that would absorb her voice and the polished sound along with her hair and makeup done so obviously subconsciously gives the vibe that she is more wealthy, full of self confidence and is not timid. The blend of the sound when they sing together is supposed to represent how their differences compliment each other…..just my opinion though
Please PLEASE watch this in theatres!! It is a movie that ABSOLUTELY needs to be watch on the big screen! There wasn't any echo when i went to watch it in theatres! I understand wanting to wait to give patrons your live reaction, but an exception HAS to be made for this movie, nobody would be upset with you for going to watch it in theatres!
I think you should watch it in theatres cause it’s only coming out on streaming in march and seeing it on a small screen and headphones will do it injustice
If I had to guess about the hollow sound in the beginning is the fact Elphaba is in the back, lower part of the room. I feel it was style choice? Galinda is elevated in the room, so she’s sounds nice and crisp. Not sure if that is the official verdict, but it’s my educated guess.

Gurl just watch the movie in theaters 😂
Honestly lmao
I think it’s Echo bc in the beginning Glindas room is full and Elphibas room is somewhat empty which makes a echo
The first solid explanation I have heard so far. 🙌
Do you not believe it was because of your headphones??
@10smirya if she doesnt she must actually be dumb
@@SongsFromASuitcase you literally only have the headphone on for arianas side of the screen it pans from ear to ear so you weren't listening to it properly
@@lauren_on_mainstreet her headphones are on both sides it's just that her hair is in front of the other one😂
That eco is because Elphaba are traped in a really small Place, and Glinda have all the room
Usually you hear echos in large and empty spaces so it should be the other way around. ...Or not, since Glinda's side of the room is full of stuff.
It's not. It's because she's listening with one ear. It's binaural.
The background vocals are all people who have been in the show previously (a lot of famous elphabas, fiyeros etc) Its truly iconic.
Please watch this in theaters it’s a must see. Streaming will not give you the same experience.
Cynthia singing live while performing flying stunts for difying gravity is amazing!
?? No baby you're killing the vibe x
@@TotallyAwesome315you personally appreciate how she’s waiting to monetize her reaction instead of just going to see the movie? 😂
Some people are just rude. I wouldn’t feel the need to say that I didn’t like somebody’s vocals when other people are saying they love it. I don’t understand why it’s hard to keep that to yourself. Especially when it’s showing a total lack of taste and credibility, lol.
At last!! None of my fave vocal coach channels have posted any reaction at all. I’m bitterley disappointed
I think they're all playing ring-a-round with Universal's copyright bots, who've been going no scope on all Wicked content with their music
Omg same I’ve been waiting and nothing. It’s shocking lol these vocals are insane too.
Jaron M Legrair Studio has put out some reactions to Wicked. He used the soundtrack, not clips from the movie, but they're really good, if you want some more reaction content.
I was thinking exactly the same. If we already have the official songs on TH-cam, why aren't they reacting to them yet? Soooo sad!
@@jesusmariacatalanventura8174 so far just Jaron and Kaden reacting to them other than her
no one mourns the wicked!!!!! that song is a really good song, Ariana’s notes, OMG!!!!
Cynthia and Ariana sounds amazing together I can’t wait for part 2
Learn to wear headphones properly. That’s why.
You do realize the version you’re hearing in this video is the original video right? If it were the headphones, only she would be hearing it.
She is wearing it properly
You're actually a muppet.
Omg why are the locals so rude lmao😭 this is literally her job
Wouldn’t Glinda come from the left side, ie. the one Audrey doesn’t have on? Shouldn’t by logic, elphaba be the one that’s clear?
It’s because the area where cynthia erivo is a bit smaller in terms of space within the room. While ariana grande’s area in the room takes up most which is why it’s not echoing.
If there’s more space in a room it’s more echoey meaning Cynthia’s should be clearer
It was mentioned in an interview that this was "mostly" live. Which means they did a mix of live and non-live in a sound studio.
It wasn't echoey when Cynthia sang in the beginning. It was either your headphones or how you were listening to the song.
Nono, althpugh maybe something is with the headphones, i'm listening without them and can clearly hear that sound is a little mucfled with an echo
@@KalenMins it really isn't, stop being stupid
REACT TO THE WHOLE SOUNDTRACK MOTHER, I PROMISE U WILL LOVE CYNTHIA SO MUCH AND ALSO ARIANA!
Girl, you need to catch up. They are signing live. They have talked about it over and over in every interview. Have you been under a rock? And put both headphones on. Cynthia is not echoey. You won't hear that in the theater. Wait until you see Defying Gravity where Cynthia is flying and singing.
The movie is absolutely stunning vocally and visually I hear what you’re saying but it does sound better on the soundtrack to be fair
Cynthia’s talking voice is pretty low and all her vocals other than that part that you’re picking at are absolutely f*cking amazing
Go watch the movie please so you can see what I’m saying it’s such a different experience
It's pretty clear this is a stereo recording. If you have only half your headset on, it's not going to sound right.
Erivo’s vocals sound “echoey” to you because it’s panned stereo sound and for some reason you’re only wearing one of the headphones. You’re not going to get the full recording by listening to only one channel and kind of half-hearing the other.
lol no
@@victorgalva23 lol yes
No. It is because is edited. They are not singing live in this song.
@@cradio52 both wrong, if it werent live they would just adjust it
It’s crazy to me they sang all songs in the movie live with there own voices both Cynthia and Ariana like that’s insane 😭
12:38 cynthia, during defying gravity, literally sings while flying and flipping several feet in the air btw 😭
i saw a tiktok of a bts where they brought back Alumni from the Broadway version to sing in the ensemble it was so wholesome!
So from what I have learned, during one of Cynthia's interviews. they had mic'ed the whole set design. So everywhere they turned there was a mic to pick up what they were singing.
No I promise it's not echoey in the theater I think it might be the way that you're wearing your earphones as others have said. You need to see it in theaters where the panning vocals works better.
amazing queenn the songs are stereo so you have to have both headphones on
6:38 OH MY GOSH SLAY
If you’re impressed by Ariana’s running and singing you should watch videos from her sweetner tour she’s insane
They also sang live, which is pretty impressive!
If you spend a lot on headphones def wear both of them 😅 songs are mixed to flow from right to left just like the theater.
Girl just go see it, we won’t be mad. This movie deserves to be seen on the big screen. Would be a shame to miss out on that.
To the OP -
Go watch it in the theatre first, then these things won’t bother you listening to then out of context.
This movie made me feel so many emotions, couldn't even feel anything for like 2 hours after watching it, After crying I was back to normal.
Can’t wait for you full reaction omg you are gonna love it ❤
Wow. Amazing vocal analysis, and you need to sing more in videos. I had no idea just how talented you are. Please sing more as examples in your future videos
As one of your patrons, seriously we don’t care if you wait to watch it on streaming. Go enjoy it like we get to!!!
You HAVE to make sure you see it on a movie screen! Maybe next year I s'pose...
it’s just your headphones lol cynthia sounds amazing just like ariana grande
Its not her head phones. It's the youtube upload.
why on earth would you not watch this in cinemas and support it as its intended to be seen?
I’m in amateur musicals and had to sing live on stage whilst dancing, running and fighting to the beat of music sometimes all in one scene, so if I can do it, they should be able to. Also I did this while being over 300ibs. It weight, which takes its toll on the body and breathing. I feels that the sing talk that Elpheba uses sometimes didn’t do the sound justice but also showed how over this whole situation the character is. So maybe it was a character choice that the technical team wasn’t prepared for?
the freaking professionalism of waiting to stream it so you give your reactions to your fans is something to applaud.
but at the same time… don’t do it gurl! enjoy this on theatres PLEASE!!
@pichirandoms8301 I wouldn't have that commitment either. I'd be going to the premiere as I actually did. Lmao
fun facts apparently Ariana is a wicked fangirl, and this is my fav song from the whole thing i mean i always found how the setup is classically the first-time good vibes set up then it becomes a rug pull talking about how they hate each other to be hilarious
Go see in theaters!! It's better to have your opinion more settled than an empty first reaction. With a rewatch you have time to mature and construct your opinions!! Also see the differences with the experiences.
Spent a lot of money on Bose headphones only to wear one ear and then complain about an "echo"... Got it.
Maybe it’s because she’s supposed to physically be in the small, tight corner of the room she’s singing in and it’s still supposed to sound like they’re bantering and not performing the song
Its a must see! It was so good in theatres and the songs were amazing. So well done! They all did amazing!
I never noticed the tin can sound of Cynthia in theaters. It’s worth it to see it in theaters!!!
It’s how Cynthia’s voice is!
You need to WAIT until the movie releases to listen to all of the songs!!
Mainly because the soundtrack vocals have pitch correction when the movie versions dont
This is literally from the movie. Don’t be an idiot
you NEED to watch this in theaters likee
whos gonna tell her the songs is the studio soundtrack and theyre just singing live in the background so the sounds actually feel like theyre singing...................... mama!!!
the songs in the movie are all sung 100% live
@@ryann8769 yes sung live and then recorded in the studio, i mean come on if the audio was live there would be too much going on in the back. ryan lets use our brians 😪😪😪
@@gyuholic3195Microphones... how DO they work?
I'm so obsessed with this song right now
I think the vocals were an experimental choice done on purpose to put emphasis on how empty Cynthia feels inside by using the visual of her sparse area of the room with nothing but herself and the bed and then recording her vocals with a lower quality mic that further emphasizes her not coming from wealth ( that is a subconscious conclusion we naturally take note of) Then the dynamic of Ariana who is wealthy, surrounded by her wardrobe and other belongings that would absorb her voice and the polished sound along with her hair and makeup done so obviously subconsciously gives the vibe that she is more wealthy, full of self confidence and is not timid. The blend of the sound when they sing together is supposed to represent how their differences compliment each other…..just my opinion though
cant wait for you to breakdown defying gravity which imo gives the original a run for its money love the vids keep up the good work.
"i blame you" and i blame you for not wearing your headphones like a normal person like what
The high quality headphones does not negate the fact that your listening to compressed audio on TH-cam .
By far one of the best songs in the movie! Just such a good time!
you need to watch it on theatres. also two headphones on.
this is just a thought but maybe if you put your headphones on all the way it would sound better.
Do I have to remind everyone that the songs sang on set WERE SANG LIVE ON SET?
6:13 she should’ve been Snow White for the remake 😭🙌
I can see it,just imagining it yes!😢
You gotta see it in theaters 😭😭
The choreographer is the legendary Christopher Scott (Zombies, Teen Beach Movie)
If I had to guess about the hollow sound in the beginning is the fact Elphaba is in the back, lower part of the room. I feel it was style choice? Galinda is elevated in the room, so she’s sounds nice and crisp. Not sure if that is the official verdict, but it’s my educated guess.
