Nice to see a Macintosh version, it's kind of rare to see a lot of the various add-ons on a Macintosh rather than PC. I had a IIGS instead of a Mac (and a good time after it was relevant too towards the late 90s), but they've always been interesting.
Thank you *so much* for uploading the content of the disk that came with with it! I am myself the proud owner of an SC-7, but I hadn't been able to find many official demo songs for it. But someone reminded me of your video, and I was able to extract the official demos from the disk image using Infinite Mac. I'm very excited to listen to them!
Ah, it seems like they might all be re-used SC-55 demo songs, which I already had, and there's some problems with a couple of them. Maybe the data on the disk got slightly corrupted or something. That's a shame. On the other hand, I'm very glad that this Ballade™ software was preserved. I was happy to discover it actually properly supports the SC-7! It lets you customize the reverb and chorus settings, not just the levels for each channel, and it knows about all the drumkits. They were kind enough to include support for GS (i.e. the SC-55) and the MT-32 in this version of the software also.
Coming back to this video to tell you that this planted a bug in my brain that caused me to buy a Roland SC-88 Pro last year, which I have hooked up to my SE/30. Thank you!
The SC-88 Pro is still a top quality sounding midi module. The sounds on the SC-88 Pro are an improvement over the SC-55 and SC-88 although the SC-88 Pro does also have all those sounds.
Shouldn’t be laggy at all. MIDI sequencing is not hard on the processing power at all. Even most 8 bit processors can handle it. Another different story is the interface. If you try Cubase on the Atari ST, you’ll see a lot of window redrawing, though when composing you end up get using to it. Nice video and desk lightning. The Amiga 1200 restoration brough me here
I personally have an SD-35 which is basically an SC-7 with a built in floppy disk drive. I still prefer the older midi only versions of Band in a box and in my opinion it sounds better with midi. But Chordpulse is very similar to older versions of Band in a box plus there are a few other free midi only style generators. The SC-7 is quite a cute little module and quite cool how they marketed it as literally a box full of musical instruments for your computer. You could say the SC-7 is a hardware equivalent to Microsoft GS WaveTable Synth.

Thanks for the video! I bought the normal/non-Mac versio box in the late 90s from a local music store. It didn't include the outer sleeve nor did it include the serial cable or any media. The Ballade demo is most likely 'Back Alley Joe' by John Campbell included with many GS compatible Sound Canvas products. I wonder if that Ballade one is customized for SC-7/GM as the GS one includes GS-specific SysEx data? PS. +1 For 'New York Minute' by Don Henley in Band-in-a-Box.

It was very satisfying when you started the Band in a Box software. That preset song was the Don Henley single “In a New York Minute”.

Nice video. I liked that typical early 90s fusion rock sound of the first demo. The sound was not bad for such a simple sound module!

That Rock Ballad Demo in band in a box is very similar to "New York Minute" by Don Henley, I wonder if it was actually licensed for use or not
Interesting! Probably not licensed would be my guess, since it’s just a list of chords and the rest is generated by the software.
