The fact you only figured out how to armor the mechs AFTER the first mission is crazy. 😂 This definitely looks complex enough for a miniseries or livestream, hope to see more of it.
A stream would help (as would reading the manual). He lost this day one even not counting having any idea how the combat works due to not touching research, city repair, pilot training, or construction. It's the sort of game where making sure you do every single task every single day is an absolute requirement.
Except he didn't figured out how to armor mechs by not adding any sort or actual armor to the newly built mech (he added a shield, but not actual armor)
You're not the mech engineer, you're the benevolent AI overlord. Aliens invaded and the AI mining station you were in charge of fell into the ocean. Some years later you crawl out of the ocean due to dwindling resources and the need to get off the planet, so you walk out of the water and immediately get attacked
This is an excellent game, but very complicated. If you want a better view of it from someone experienced, I highly recommend watching Aavak's let's play that just concluded. He explains what's going on as he goes and cuts over the fiddly parts.
SCI FI Logistics The GAME! I love that the assumption that ammo and armor would take care of themselves had such severe consequences. Just like real like bosses :P
I'm going guess that Jon doesn't know that you can upgrade/fix the city and that you get one upgrade a day upto five, according to Aavak. The city moves at the end of turn. Also the numbers on the map are essentially minesweeper for enemy bases.
Mech Engineering? Where you get to engineer every single component? Down to the fundamentals? nice needs more pain and math to be *mechanical* engineering tho
Back on my friend's Amiga in the 80s we used to play Mechforce (a ripoff of Battletech). I loved designing the mechs and wrote computer programs to optimize them. Playing the game was just a way to test the designs!
Its worth noting that this company has practically nothing to do with the old 80's games company. The brand name has been sold on like 4-5 times since the days Sid Mier and Co used it. These days it is now owned by an Australian developer who used to work at Bohemia interactive.
If you like the idea of the endless swarm gameplay, Infested Planet does basically the same thing without the mech design part, and with a better UI and clearer graphics. The Creeperworld series has a similar concept as well, although as more of an RTS base builder.
a real engineer would start designing mechs and soon find out shit like helicopters and tanks are easier to build and more effective. no wonder why the humans lost.
I think the only survivors were the most leatherneck-y of Marines - so they of course laughed at the idea of ships and aircraft and went for the big smashy robots with guns 🦾
The game's been designed to be obtuse to interact with. That's the designer's intention. I'm not sure why that means the tutorial is shit, but... here we are.
There's definitely gotta be some rock-paper-scissors mechanics they got. It looks interesting but i mean we already have FTL. What would've been good is a mech builder in Unity ala KSP.
my eyes may be failing, but i prefer to read the mission screen as "visit cities to find elves"..... i just hope they fare better against the machines of hate than the elves of the Tolkien universe :)
I swear to god, if you don't say "miggity mech yourself before you wreck yourself" I don't know if my poor heart could handle it." Oh lawd, I think I'm getting the vahpuhrs.
@Cryten0 I didn't know that. I just saw the name on the title screen and it was a blast from the past. I remember playing Commodore 64 games published by MicroProse.
Day 152 of requesting Age of Mythology - a full playthrough if possible. This reminds me a lot of an anime called Bull Buster, where a company had to fight monsters with mechs on a small island, but the costs of operation meant they were on a nearly shoestring budget and in danger of being shut down. The scale was somewhat smaller, more cheerful (to an extent), and the theme song rocked, but the similarity was still there.
I'm going to selfishly request RE4 remake Separate Ways for tomorrow's stream just because it'll be my birthday, and I'd be able to watch the stream for the first time in months. Of course, I totally understand if things don't go that way, but I figured it doesn't hurt to ask.
As soon as I heard Jon guessing at the meaning of some of the elements, I knew he never read the manual... That thing is a small textbook, and that's for a very good reason... XD
Some people care more about athletics, that's why you can buy chess sets that cost thousands of dollars. But as long as you can tell the pieces apart the gameplay is the same. I think there's a balance to these things, really. It's better if a game looks nice than not, and it will get more people to play, but once someone has hands on it's all down to gameplay.
@@Jayfive276some told ol' Seth the Librarian to stop it, many said it was a waste of time, I shamefully count myself among them, but Seth just kept on asking, and you know what happened? There did finally come a day when Jon had finally fulfilled that request, after basically three years of requesting Zoo Tycoon was featured on the channel at last. Who knows if Jon is serious about fulfilling a request like that again but it's certainly not an impossibility as we've all witnessed. The funny thing is that maybe at a certain point it's not even about the request anymore, maybe it just becomes a nice little ritual someone does when settling in for an MATN video that supposedly helps the algorithm and really does no harm. Arguably you naysaying helps out too but you're just being negative for no real reason. I say we all take up the way of Seth and begin our own game request each upload eventually culminating in an organization of devout followers that spans the globe while also becoming unrealistic to be able to properly police leading to deep rooted corruption that will one day be our downfall, just don't worry about it and learn to love the request, or get over it idk. I just felt like being long winded and obnoxious honestly.
*Gives mech rockets with increased fire rate*
*Gives no extra rocket ammo*
“Perfect!”
TO THE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT! *Batman transition*
I was thinking the same thing! 😂
"To the HR department" cracked me up. Jon was so excited
Microprose games really needed you to take a deep dive into the manual.

Benevolent, but not competent.
I took one look at this, saw the UI and immediately concluded that it’s almost certainly too complicated for me.
I had the exact reaction. I said to my husband, “That’s a big nope for me.” I’d have a hard time just reading the tiny font.
2:02 In the ticker display in the top right... 18 Monday June 2199... In fact 18 June 2199 will be a Tuesday

They've had some interesting games in the last few years.

I feel like Jon has never played Mech Commander Gold, Mech Commander 2, MechCommander, or any of the MechWarrior games...
Aren't MechCommander Gold and MechCommander the same game?
@@jeremysaklad6703 I was thinking of that new MechCommander game (Hairbrain's turn based one) but I can't for the life of me remember the title.

So the default mech lasted the longest?
Hmmm
HMMMMMM.
Five minutes in, and I've got this game wishlisted.
Lol Jon! You didnt have any heat resistance at all because you ballanced internal and external heat resistance
An amazing game, and really engaging once you get into the swing of things, but one that almost requires reading through the extensive in game manual.
Oh. Oh no... This is very, very tempting, but I only just bought a different game... I, too, love stuff like this.
Love this game

You can also upgrade the giant walking base you live on.
Let's put the guy with the giant tank artillery gun setup as the melee. Because military tank and rpg tank are totally the same concept.
I think having the "free will control" at 0 isn't a good idea (bottom left)
Welcome to the BattleTech Mech building experience... 😂

The BattleTech influence is pretty blatant. Still.. very cool.
I'm sure it's a complete coincidence there's a recommended team of four 'Mechs.
Geez MicroProse is still around?!? Damn, I'm old
No, it has been sold on 5-6 times. Now revived as an Australian simulation games company by a fan. Before that it was brand licensing for electronics.
@Cryten0 I didn't know that. I just saw the name on the title screen and it was a blast from the past. I remember playing Commodore 64 games published by MicroProse.
Disappointed that the symbol in the top left corner isn't Ghostbusters, what with "Mr. Marshmallow" and all that!
Looks like a good concept, but made way too overly complicated.

The atari 2600 could never dream of having this many white pixels moving around!
Unlike Microsoft, Microprose used to be good.
why would you make a game like this with a lot of text and small icons in "pixel art"?
It makes it horrible to deal with (visually) for no reason.
