Had a 207 - LOVED it, so did my neighbor, he borrowed it when his New Holland was "broken". Sometimes I think he just liked the Oliver better.

That was cool. Hard to beat the speed of the 105. I'm impressed the hay didn't wind up on the wheels. I need to fab up some wind guards for mine.

I’ve been investigating some of that polypropylene to make them out of. they’ll be super expensive, but they would last forever. If I ever figure that out, I’ll let you in on the secret.

I agree with you that Freddie is the pick of the tractor for overall use and the 107 is the pick on the rakes. I enjoyed watching, great video, you gave us a good comparison, thanks. I hope everything continues to go good for you, have a good night.

When I was 14-16 years old I worked for a farmer that raked with a 550 diesel. If the sun was shining 9 chances out of 10 I was raking hay and I could not have been happier.

Loved the video. It is fun to see old equipment out working. In 1980 I rescued my Grandpas first tractor a standard Oliver 70 from the scrap pile. Once I got it all done raking hay was one of the jobs we used it for. I am sad that we didn’t get any pictures of it working.

The 60 putting in a days work👍👍 I think the #2s are a cool looking rake. I raked many many acres of hay with a 60 and imo they are the best hay raking tractor if you have a small rake. With the tricycle front, you can spin that little light tractor right around at the end of a row. I've even baled with the 60 just for kicks to prove it can be done😂

I really liked the #2. It's a tough choice between the 107& the 207 because they both did a great job and were very quiet along with the #2. The 105 did ok. Put Freddie in front of the #2 or 107 and you will have a winning combination, jmo 😂😂. Thanks for your time and effort to make this happen. I could've watched you rake the rest of the field and had a blast. See you later.

I used grandpa's # 2 for many years, starting at age 11. it was a 3 bar and it tended to need to have the bars move too fast and beat the leaves off more than dad's old McCormick 4 bar. The Oliver was super quiet and used a roller type drive chain. The McCormick used a detachable link chain that often broke, The folks bought it new in the 40s. It also liked to break the rake teeth if set even a bit low. I picked up an older high wheel Deere 4 bar. It was really good and I still use it yet today, some 60 ears later! For a while those large wheel rakes were the norm, but I never got one, these old timers were just fine for me. That 105 rake looks nearly identical to the Farm Hand rake the neighbor had. I always enjoy using my old tractors and balers for this work, Allis C ,WC, Farmall H or M. One of the few things that I enjoy anymore!

The 105 wheel rake was made by Darf in eastern NC. Believe I only assembled one Oliver version, however Darf made the same rake for New Idea and we sold many of them. Remember spending hours removing the paint from the crank bearing surfaces with a wire brush on a bench grinder. If you got the rake level, the stop chains and flotation springs set right they did a good job. The Masonite wheel shields didn’t last long if the rake was stored outside. It was a quality rake at a reasonable price.

When I raised beef cattle and cut my own hay, if the rain percentage was 30% or higher, I never mowed, worked on cleaning up the bales left in the field. When I did mow, usually with my JD1209 MOCo, I'd put in a windrow with it, if they were calling for a 20% or higher, I'd close the swath board, make the hay lay flat. Flat hay dries better if rained on plus, when you needed to rake it, you did the full swath. If already in a windrow, was simple adjusting where I drove to just bring the bottom to the top, let sit for a day, then turn it over one more time, then bale. If there was standing water in the field, would roll the hay out of that standing water and let that sit for an extra day or 2. Believe it or not, the old NH Super 55 5 bar side delivery rake, was always gentle on the hay, only thing I worried about was Alfalfa, doesn't matter with that hay crop, you'd start knocking off the leaves and that's NOT what you want to happen. That's a sweet rake, they should sound quiet, my NH you'd hear the teeth rub against the hay bars every so often. Now, big wheel rakes, those are way better rakes except for wet hay. I preferred the big wheel rakes with left and right folding arms, can get a lot done with them and if you had them set right, would fluff the windrows better as well. Good to see that old iron running again, cheers :)

I have 2 different models of allis rakes. Early and late. The early rake which is pto and has tedder built in gearbox works the best but parts are hard to get and expensive. Our windrows also have to be 2 times what you have because the roto baler likes very large rows over small ones.

I had an old International 4 wheeled rake much like your #2. In the hilly terrain in east Tennessee it was a handful on the hillsides because it wanted to run down hill sideways on you, but if you were on flat ground or going straight up and down it did great, in fact it did as well if not better than my New Holland 258. Loved the video!

  • @jvin248

Super great Farm Trial of "the latest in Oliver farming gear"! Saw the pinwheel rake was either not picking up as much or knocking all the hay leaves off, the windrows are half the size of the roller basket types, sure wouldn't want to try selling hay bales with that. We had a couple of old Case roller bar rakes and when I see demos of the new "hay tedders" I cringe at the amount of hay fodder they knock off. Looks like your best runners are the #2 and #207. You might get hay samples from those two rakes to lay out and compare hay condition after raking, asking if they are retaining all the leaves?

Freddy raking was the one I really like we had a rake like that but it was a Vicon ,it was just like that on wheels not the type that was on the lift arms , but ours was terrible on the corners , we did have a Fahr centipede that you could use for tedding and then change the gear on it so it went slower and use it to row up the gear change was simple just buy moving the PTO on to a different connection on the machine it did a better job as a big wheeled like on Freddy can make the grass into a roll we use to find , we had a called a Lely Cock Pheasant too but they were great for tedding but terrible for raking
