Actually, I like the JDM white dial version.
Same here!
I just picked up the JDM SEIKO 5 SBSC009 Field Sports GMT Mechanical Automatic Watch ,
Looks great.
Freaking Seikos killing it again. I really want the SS model. Thanks for the side by side comparison B!!😎👊
That steel is really nice. Heard there's a white jdm model too.
I think the inner hour track is meant to be used to read the 24-hour time on the 12-hour hands which is particularly useful when one is comparing the second time zone relative to the local time. Great looking watches but dang, I wish Seiko put the SSK GMT hand on instead of the shovel/stoplight GMT hand.
For me, it’s too much mental gymnastics I’d have to do to be ok with the redundant extra 24 scale.
@@ender1077 I think the inner 24-hour scale for use with the 12-hour hands is just a remnant of the common field watch dial layout. I heard it was originally to help conscripted American servicemen adapt to 24-hour time used in the military and is more commonly used outside of the United States. I do not see its purpose for daily wear unless one regularly uses 24-hour time or has a need to reference the GMT hand's time relative to the local time-aside from those two specific instances, I think it is more of a design feature than a functional one.
I’m having trouble finding a sapphire crystal replacement for my ssk025 field gmt. Can anyone help?
Great value def a great Explorer 2 alternative. Keep up the great work my friend!
For sure. Thanks Miguel!
I haave the 025 and swapped it over to a black Haveston General Service nylon strap and it looks and feels way better!
Anybody make a PVD or DLC bracelet for the Stealth?
I just picked up the JDM SEIKO 5 SBSC009 Field Sports GMT Mechanical Automatic Watch
white dial.
Nice. Love the white version too. I think I'd go for that one out of the 3 as well. Thanks!
@@TimeToGoTravelAndTimepieces I'm wearing it right now. It really is nice Rolex explorer ii vibes.
The hour hands kinda irked me. It is so shiny.
@@valenzuelaeph I hear you! Possibly not a dealbreaker for most people.
I'll never understand why Seiko bracelets and crowns are consistently so boring and cheap looking.
It's like they are a lazy afterthought.
This bracelet is actually half decent looking if you don't look at the clasp, but would it be too much to just put a little 'S' on the crown to give it some interest?
Even Timex embellish their crowns.
Small details make a difference.
I went with the JDM white dial version. While I really like both the SS black dial and Blacked out models, I wanted to add a white dial to my collection. Bracelet seemed pretty good, but I haven't sized it yet as I swapped it immediately for a grey Erica's Original strap. Simply brilliant.
I bet that strap looks great on it. Loving the JDM white version too. Thanks!
Where did you get it from?
*The black model would be my choice, but they're both nice. I'd put it on a 2-piece NATO to reduce any feeling of thickness.* _Not mentioned in the video is the GMT hand; on the steel model it's all painted but for the black case version, the base of the GMT hand is black._
I was all set to get the black version until I realized the black numerals on black bezel might be too stealthy for me. Also didn't like the green tint of the hour markers. So ended up with the steel version.
I didn't realize how green the markers on the black were until I got it. I don't mind them but prefer the steel too. Thanks!
Got the SS version, loving it though it wears a bit small. And as you said, the inner 24 hour markings could have been avoided; makes it look a tad bit busy. Also the lume for the 12 o'clock position could have been bigger. Ah, the domed crystal will give off weird reflections but that's the charm! Overall a great GMT watch.
Couple minor things with it but I think it's a great watch too. Thanks!
I'm with you...I lean towards the steel version. Bracelet looks like a great match, too. But really I like the white dial JDM version best!
That white jdm looks really nice. Thanks man.
I would prefer the SS one. But both look pretty cool. Great video, as always, Bob!
Thanks Adrian!
Nice overview dude, not sure why they went with greenish numerals and then no lume 😅 think the hamilton gmts and the alpinist gmts are my current favourites in the class at the moment 😎
Yeah that was a miss for sure not having them lumed. Cheers!
Yeah, I think that both straps aren't doing the watch much justice. The leather looks cheap and the steel looks too chunky.
Where is a trustworthy site I can buy the JDM SBSC009 (white version)?
Funny you mention this. I'm shopping for one too. Most of the one's I've used are sold out. I like Gnomon and I've bought from Japan Select and Sakura with good experiencs too. Hopefully they get a restock soon. If I see anyone else I'll let you know.
Thank you! Do you know when the SSK023 is being released in the U.S.? Seiko's website says April 2024 so I'm assuming everyone who has it already purchased it from Japan?
@froregon1 The dealer I borrowed it from is actually in Canada so not 100% sure but likely they bought from Japanese sellers.
Id like to open it up and paint the lume on myself if possible
Also black bracelet would that be possible?
Im tired of using smart watches but I also need a watch that can take a beating when I move around appliances this looks good
Definitely a good durable watch for that. Thanks!
There are SO many GMTs already, with the same movement and WAY better specs/materials. So, these become Seiko fan boys favorites, just that. Or maybe, a really chear explorer option... depends on the perpective!
A fun fact is that Seiko is using the seconds hand from divers of the past as a GMT hand, weird to say the least, cheap(y!) in a way... The whole hand-set is a mess imo! But, to each his own, right?
I don't mind the hands but yeah, I've definitely seen that gmt hand a few times on divers. There sure is a lot of gmt's lately. Seiko kind of opened up the flood gates with this movement. Thanks Stavros 🍻
What's a better watch?
They are both great Bob, I would go with the steel for sure:)
Thanks man. Steel for me too!
I definitely prefer the steel. The bracelet isn’t too bad either. Over all its a nice watch for the money. A couple of things I would have preferred is lumed numerals and 22mm lugs opening.
Luned numerals would have been nice for sure. That's probably the biggest let down for me with it. Thanks man 👊
Got the white dial JDM version and put it on an oyster bracelet. Loving it!
Cool. That's my favorite version of it too. Thanks!
Not bad but too much text on dial and bezel, design is too busy for me
I own the black. I put it straight onto a Black leather band with deployment clasp. One of my favorites.
Nice. Love the stealthy look of the black one.
Is it a rotating bezel? If it is, you could track 3 time zones.
It's a fixed bezel.
Lost me when you showed the lack of lume on the numbers
Yeah that was a bit of a bummer for me too.
They should have included a rotating bezel... Otherwise I like these!
Couple things to improve on for sure but I still really like them too. Thanks Steve!
This is not 24h twice on the watch. Since the purpose and the meaning is totally different. Read below:
- The 13-24 hours inside ring is jumping 1 hour per 1 hour mark. It helps you to read the hour hand in military time:
- The 1-24 hours bezel ring is jumping 2 hour per 1 hour mark. It helps you to read the GMT hand.
Don't look at the 12 hour mark and see the same 2 -24h then say they are the same. Take a look at the 6 hour mark for example, you see the inside ring is 18, while the bezel is 12 !!
My mistake. Not sure where my head was at there. I've had a few field watches with the same. Just hadn't seen it on a gmt. Thanks for the clarification though.
