- Today we are getting into the Seiko SSK023 and 025 GMT Field watch models. These just released Seiko 5's have great looks and functionality. Choose from the stainless steel bracelet version, SSK023 or the IP black on leather strap, SSK025. Either way, you cannot go wrong!

Islander needs to rework, improve or innovate on the original design......not be a straight up copy, im sure mark agrees..... right?😊
I can see him doing one with a sapphire crystal, screw-down crown, & a bracelet with screws & milled scissor-hands & clasp.
I can see this as the basis for the Rangemaster GMT with some Islander upgrades and TGV design elements.

It's not standard mineral crystal. It's Hardlex which is a "type" of mineral crystal but not the pure thing because it's been altered to be a proprietary compound that has better features than regular mineral crystal. Just calling it mineral crystal is not just inaccurate but misleading.
An ugly and cluttered mess. I love me some Seiko but these are a hard no for me. But great video nonetheless, Mark.

Too many numbers for a GMT watch IMO. If they did away with the inner military then it would be perfect!
What is the purpose of the numbering on the bezel?
That's how you read the second timezone (the red GMT hand). The numbers on the bezel is the 24hr time of that second timezone.
A rotating bezel would be nice, then you could track 3 time zones.
can't decide between Alpinist GMT or this. Got my first Seiko in '72.
Love these Marc. I would have bought one from you (as I did with the release a few years back), but I had to go with the white dial JDM model! Should be here any day now (love the stealth black one too). While I suspect mine will live on a NATO or Erica's, can you confirm it is a pin only bracelet? Bracelet actually looks pretty good (I can size either but it is nice to know what I'm getting into). Thank you!

Both great looking watches. To me the black looks better but the numbers on the bezel are harder to read.
The 023 is a really good looking watch. Not that big of a fan of black IP watches. Would like to have seen a rotating bezel and lumed numerals but neither is a show stopper at the asking price. I usually like to have a rotating 24 hour bezel on my GMT to get the full functionality out of the watch. Leave the 24 hour hand on GMT and rotate the bezel to the time zone of interest.

The inner 24 hour track is not necessary and the new Seiko 5 logo is just plain tasteless, other than that the watch is fine. There should be a rubber strap version.

Don't understand why leave a big gap between crown & case..
I really like them but with the 4r movement theyre a bit spendy. Id rather it be a little more expensive and come with the 6r from the presge and alpinist.

"Gmt field watch" is an attractive and useful design. With the upgraded specs you usually incorporate in the designs, I think the Islander brand could make one that blows these watches out of the water.
I was really interested until i heard hardlex....on a field watch....lol.

I am sure many people already asked, but I missed it. Would you know if the overall case height would be less if the watch have solid case back instead of exhibition one? I feel like the field watches should be thinner on the wrist. There is a chance for a new modding item to be sold, Marc. If you made thinner case back, that is.
Pretty decent, it being a field watch I prefer it not to have a date but each to their own, I like my date included ssk009 I believe, the blue dial gmt

Had the 023 for a few weeks now, replaced the bracelet for a black leather strap, have ordered the 027/sbsc009 white face version from Japan, love it and it’s become my daily wear at the moment, will be replacing the Hardlex Crystal with sapphire and possibly a non display back to reduce watch height. A lovely watch which will stay in my collection.
Where did you buy the SBSC009? I want the white version and would love to buy it from a trustworthy site. Thanks !

the payment is held in escrow and doesn't go to the seller until delivery is proven, I see now the price has dropped. Regards Bob

I like the general look, but the inner 13-24h is a bit too much IMO. Ends up being way to many numbers on the watch
