    I’m a bowhunter not a spearo but your vids are one of the very few I can sit and watch the whole thing. I love the cat and mouse of both sports and having to learn your game’s habits and mannerisms is all part of the fun and going that extra mile makes you a better hunter. Can’t wait for the next one mate, regards from Warwick QLD👍

      Daniel Mann Yeah mate I’ve been chasing them the last few weekends, the big fellas are playing hard to get, their answering the calls but not coming into bow range, I had a young stag at 13m last week and my drop away rest played up and sprayed the arrow big time. I’m having another crack at them this weekend and have a pretty good plan so fingers crossed

      Hey Marcelo, it’s what we call whip coral. Kind of a semi soft coral that comes from certain areas. If you find a big patch with fern coral in 30m you’re almost always in for some fish action.

    I've only got the roving / marbled to go off this list. Also with the coros their the primary reef from on Christmas Island, I find that that if they go under plate coral whilst running they will stop an come out slowly in the same direction they were running, you can pretty well dive to 3m above the plate an get a shot every time.

      Would love to get out to Christmas Island. What other trout species do you get there?

      That’s pretty cool. I saw similar amounts of coronation trout in Timor-Leste when I was there. You could drive and seen 50 of them. Lots of smaller ones though and no real stand out monsters. I’m sure they’re there in the depths though.

    As a spearfisher from the red sea we have the square tail trout ALOT but it never grow above 3-5kg
    We dont have any of the other species but the closest one is the blue spot it looks similar in the underwater footage but on the boat it looks sooo diffrent and it never grow above 10-15kg i think the highest we ever heard about and its like a myth or a legend is 18kg

    Thanks Dan, awesome vid as usual. Are there any specific conservation issues with these famous fish? Also, I have done lots of free-diving in the tropics, never spearing though, and see loads of fish I assume are coral trout. They look quite distinctive in this video, could I be mistaking other fish for coral trout, or are they just quite abundant?

    • @DanielMann
      @DanielMann  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are listed as least concern on the IUNC red list, at least for bar cheek, leopard and blue spot. A lot of the smaller females are caught for the live trout trade from Queensland. They also have a closed period each year based around certain moons for spawning purposes which helps protect the fish stocks. They can be quite prolific in some areas and also very docile.
