Dan, I thought I would take the time to let you know how big of an influence you have had on my life. About 4 years ago I started watching your videos and you have taught me and made me totally obsessed with spearfishing. You are one of the biggest inspirations in my life as your videos have taught me most of what I know about the sport. I started a TH-cam page a couple months ago, mostly to have as a personal diary and dive log of my experiences. Would love for you to check it out and critique my videos as I am sure there is plenty I am doing wrong. Please continue the amazing videos! Anytime you drop a video I am sure to stop what I am doing to watch and learn! Love your solo shore dive videos in the UK! So awesome!

very good video thank you very much! i have never wanted to go to uk but because of your videos i think i will go there to spearfish someday! maybe we will see us at the beach. stay stafe out there in the ocean alone buddy
Two things: 1. I do a lot of shoredive spearfishing, and if you don't, you might not really appreciate the athletic ability it takes to swim over a mile out and back, in strong current, and still have the energy to dive and spearfish once you're out there! Without being REALLY sure what the current is doing out there, I wouldn't start that far out if you're new to it. (I am definitely not going that far!) 2. Appreciate the explanation of your setup! I do this with a paddle board (not standing, just swimming on it like a surfboard) and I love the ability to just get up and lie on the board between dives to catch my breath sometimes. But if I had the money, I'd probably invest in something like this - it looks ideal!
Great video. I spear fish from the coast and have used my boat to get out further afield. This year hasn’t been a great one for spearo weather and the bass where I live have become mostly schoolies. I can see the appeal of swimming out to marks offshore to get big fish, especially when you don’t have access to a boat. I can also see that you know what you’re doing and have some serious breath hold skills. For the benefit of others I thought it might be worth emphasising safety a bit more in videos like this, since many novices will try to emulate you. I’m also lifeboat crew and work at sea for a living, I can’t help but risk assess your operation. Swimming out that far you are really at the mercy of tides and weather. It may be worth mentioning some safety advice such as informing someone of your plan and when you intend to return. Taking with you a phone and/or vhf or at least a few flares. Having a plan if you lose your float or fog closes in. Checking the weather and tides etc. Great fish you had there and well worth the swim out. Good luck on future dives.

Hi Daniel, after freediving for a few years I have taken up spear fishing this summer very much inspired by your vids and adventures. May I please ask what torch you use?
@@DanielMann thank you so much Daniel will check it out. I’m based in Malta, as an utter newbie I have to say I’m finding it difficult to catch anything. Tips for newbies including increasing aim might make for a great vid :)
Great video Daniel. In Jersey (the Crown Dependency, not the USA) we use the tides to our advantage. If you jump in 2hrs before low the tide will drag you out off the SE coast. When the tide turns it pushes you back to shore. It generally means a 4-5hr dive and never gets much deeper than 4-5m but I will regularly do 4-5 km on a dive. The 12m tides do help 😏
Thoughts on colour correction on spearfishing footage? Do you do it much? Ive played with it a little in davinci, as a total amateur its hard to keep the noise out of the footage but looks so much nicer with better colour.
Using a buoy increase your speed in the sea versus just swimming with fin? I was thinking to buy a kayak but paddeling in kayak must be hard as well. Hobby kayak with pedal look like same paddling inside sea with carbon fin . I am looking energy saving .
My brother my people been doing long swim like that in Cuba,Varadero beach swimming sometimes over 6km along de beach is not easy and always dangerous never do it alone that’s the one rule only the experts do it,great video be safe and good hunting.
This video dropped just in time! I recently bought the best hunter Okipa 2 buoy for a medium swim (1.3 km of shore) and I was thinking how can i improve it. I also purchased a electric scooter to save even more time and energy while swimming to the spot. Amazing editing as always cheers!
@@SRHartley the scooter I use is the SUBLUE whiteshark mix pro, I hold it while I’m laying on the buoy, the battery life is just enough for me to travel 1.3 km of shore and back before it runs out of juice. When I arrive to the spot I just place it on top of the buoy and ofc I strap it to the buoy itself with the strap you get when you buy it. If your worried about the battery life I would recommend to get a spare battery to take with you on your dive(I’m considering buying another one for my peace and quiet)
Great footage and not something I would do alone. You can't swim out too far where I live in Florida, as you'd take a big chance at getting run over by a boat. A kayak would serve you well.
Keep it up Mr daniel Also dou you have any tip for seasickness and how to get rid of it by training cuz i dive occasionally because the atlantic sea in my country goes good for spearfishing very occasionally average
Epic stuff Dan, I've just goy myself a kayak for those longer distances. Tried it out in close yesterday and it's so good to dive from 😁🥳 Just need some more time off work and some good weather to get out to some spots now 🤞
@@DanielMann I have an inflatable kayak, it is nice to pootle around in, but hard on the arms, especially with a headwind against the tide (Peddle ones might be v good but are generally not inflatable so appropriate transport for it is req).
@@DanielMann I have a Best Hunter Okipa 3 Board and the only thing I do not like about these boards are their flimsy valves. They leak air all the time. Last summer I inflated the tubes to max and super glue the valves. I was happy until the weather got colder. As I have inflated and glued the tubes when the air temp. was around 40, the tubes got deflated (due to temperature difference) when the air temp dropped significantly in winter. The float did not had too much buoyancy to begin with (even though it is one of the bigger ones but not as big as the patrol) so with deflated tubes the buoyancy got even worse and did not support my weight. I got the float as I always do shore diving and until recently my closest diving spot was a mile offshore. However, I quickly found out that doing a supported swim with these floats is not the best idea in Cyprus summer as the temp got up to 45 an water temp up to 31. I only can last few minutes swimming supported with the board, then I had emerge myself to water to cool and prevent a heatstroke. I was hoping them it would be more beneficial in winter but with the current condition of the tubes it is not. However as a good news, one of the companies came up with better inner tubes with better looking valves for a similarly designed float. So I am hoping if I can get hold of those inner tubes the float would be more functional. But if I am buying a new float next time it would be a dropped stitched body board type one. There is a chance to attach a powerful electric motor to those as well (check scubajet) which should really help getting me to the dive locations without increasing my hear rate.
Nice video as always. I'm also doing more shore dives then with boat in the Baltic sea. Main target is COD, but it is real challenge to got some. Float diving is also great workout 👌 Why you don’t use orca 100 here?

My brother my people been doing long swim like that in Cuba,Varadero beach swimming sometimes over 6km along de beach is not easy and always dangerous never do it alone that’s the one rule only the experts do it,great video be safe and good hunting.
Awesome vid- you should consider having a depth and dive time in a lower third each time you film a dive...
I have but I don't feel like it would add much to it, I tend to use voice over if the depth is important.
Where in the uk can one go spear fishing like this. So cool
All along the south coast of England.
This video dropped just in time! I recently bought the best hunter Okipa 2 buoy for a medium swim (1.3 km of shore) and I was thinking how can i improve it. I also purchased a electric scooter to save even more time and energy while swimming to the spot. Amazing editing as always cheers!
Be interested to hear about your electric scooter setup. Do you hold it or is it attached to your float? Which one is it and what is the range like?
I’ve thought about the electric scooter before but I love the exercise!
Keep it up Mr daniel
Also dou you have any tip for seasickness and how to get rid of it by training cuz i dive occasionally because the atlantic sea in my country goes good for spearfishing very occasionally average
I use antihistamine tablets. They block the same part of your brain that makes you get hayfever as well as motion sickness.
Yippee, the marinade is also available in Germany! Now all that's missing is the fish...
Epic stuff Dan, I've just goy myself a kayak for those longer distances. Tried it out in close yesterday and it's so good to dive from 😁🥳
Just need some more time off work and some good weather to get out to some spots now 🤞
I’ve heard of these inflatable kayaks, tempting!
@@DanielMann haha I went all out and got a fancy pedal kayak, I wanted to have a decent platform to fish off as well as dive from 😅
@@DanielMann I have an inflatable kayak, it is nice to pootle around in, but hard on the arms, especially with a headwind against the tide (Peddle ones might be v good but are generally not inflatable so appropriate transport for it is req).
Can see the bottom, if the visibility is good, trough the transparent ball of air at the front?
I guess you could but it’s pretty scuffed up from dragging it up the shore.
Nice fish wings ... ill put them in the smoker along with the fish heads ... really enjoy your vids
I need to get in to smoking, one of these days!
Think you may trigger some South Africans too🇿🇦 Nando's 😂great video as always 👍
🤣🤣🤣
Red light filter for the camera! You wont regret it, makes the footage perfect
Do you encounter sharks on your swim??
Never thought of trying Nando sauce on fish wings... Good suggestion!
It’s a winner!
Float diving is also great workout 👌
Why you don’t use orca 100 here?
I’ve always enjoyed my time diving in the Baltic Sea, love those cod.
I was waiting on a new 6.75mm shaft for my Orca 100 but took it out last week 👌
Cool setup!
If the walk isn't too far to the water and easy access is there a reason you don't use a sit on top kayak for long distances?
Cost of a kayak, no where to store it and I don't want to put roof racks on my whip!
@@DanielMann fair enough
What about sharks? How would you escape using this float boat ?
No sharks in the U.K. to worry about.
5:17 what a shot good on ya mate
Cheers! I was pretty happy with that one.
My question is, what do you do with the car key? Do you take it with you, if that's the case, how do you protect it from water?
I take it with me in a waterproof key box.
Gotta learn to be more patient like you with my shots. Well done. Your harpoons, what mm tickness do they have?
I use either 6.5mm or 6.25mm shafts with 17.5mm bands.
Daniel you should offer an online course for beginners... I really want to get into spearfishing but. Ijust don't know where to start... love your content btw
I’ve thought about making one but I’m also not sure where to start 🤣 Ryan Myers has one coming out soon!
That’s a super vid with some top hunting on display 👌
Thanks mate, trying to emulate the best 😉
Inspirational, as always.
Although this is cool, don't go out alone... U donno when something would go wrong.. stay safe guys 🤗🤗
Great stuff!
Great video as usual m8
Cheers!
Daniel are you not worried about BOs while diving alone?
Hey bro 4k res whats the rest of your settings for underwater shooting? If it isnt to much to ask. Have gopro 11 black trying to get best shots i can for shooting fish. Thank you ahead of time!
I’m a beginner. Is it possible to attach my speargun with a line to the boat instead of an anchor? Will this also work?
I don't attach my speargun to an anchor, I attach my float to the anchor. This video may help you out a bit th-cam.com/video/L82__o5HtwY/w-d-xo.html
fairoics that was mint
are you not worried about sharks as you paddle?
Not in the U.K.
How deep were you mate at @5:30 ?
No more than 10m, probably 8m.
Which brand are your sunglasses they are sick
So good for boating and driving a car, zero glare in the side. www.mokenvision.com/en/hawkins-glacier/376-431-hawkins-glacier-3760314191906.html#/215-color-navy_cooper
Can I ask what socks/booties you are wearing while diving vs. walking off the beach? Looking closer, did you put on shoes over the dive socks when you got back to shore? LoL If so what kind and where did you store them? im looking for a durable but yet warm solution!!!
They are Imersion socks but you’re right, wearing reef shoes over the top. Simple and cheap from Amazon.
@ but did your fins still fit with them on?
No, I just wear the 3mm socks with the fins as usual but when walking around exiting and entering the water I wear the overshoes. No need for them once you have the fins on.
@ OK then where do you put them while diving? Don’t think you showed that 😁 Merry Xmas kind Sir!
On the float.
Hey Dan, what mask is that you are using? Have you stopped using your micro?
Omer wolf, yes the micro masks are no longer in production. Still great masks though.
Awesome video, thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
