    I didn't know until quite recently that a ballan wrasse of 6 to 7 lb is probably about 25 to 30 years old, I use to keep the odd 1 or 2 to roast whole over a driftwood fire on the beach and just pick the meat off the fish and I thought they're very tasty but since finding out about how long it takes b4 they hit breeding age etc I'll be catching and returning in future but that being said if people are taking them for the table and not just for pot bait then that's fine with me as they're certainly not over fished in the UK.
    Great underwater footage btw, and very informative.

    Yo pollock have a lateral line too, this isnt exclusive to coalfish. However, the coalfish's is a bit more pronounced as you say. The main difference is that the pollock has a lateral line that very clearly curves upwards about halfway along, whereas the coalfish's is completly straight. Great vid though

    • @DanielMann
      @DanielMann  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is indeed curved but when looking at them underwater the coal fish has a white lateral line that stands out a lot. The lateral line on the pollack isn’t white.

      @@DanielMann ah fair enough mate I forgot that you're looking at it from the perspecive of being underwater.
