I'm in Shanghai and I just went on a test drive for the NIO. Love this car, the features are insane and the interior is way more complete than a Tesla. Hope to get the ET7 when it comes out

But for the smooth (nappa?) leather, it felt way better than a BMW. I was in 2 different nio stores around Shanghai and sat in all of them, only the smooth leather felt high quality. I was on the test drive for the EC6 and it was honestly amazing. I'd definitely put my money on getting one in the future. And this is coming from someone who has spent a lot of time in Infinitis/Benz's/Audis/BMWs/Lexus/Acuras

But I get that for some it might be difficult to accept that brands with hundred years of experience build more polished product. China would surely takeover EV market. I dunno about these car's durability, But at least they've managed to make it affordable and easy to use and easy to buy. All that while most european car manufacturers are still kinda confused whether they need to go full EV or reselling their old junk.

The battery swapping is a cool idea; but the cost to build stations everywhere and to have a full inventory of batteries fully charged is insanely expensive. I could see this as an option for long distance travel. More range, faster charging times and convenient charging stations will be the key.
Im sure, once you have enough swaps and economies of sales youll actually make money on swaps and if its a real hit.. other companies might follow and they might become the next petrol stations
You have to consider the batteries that need to be charged after the swap from the vehicle. The stations can only hold so many batteries. 15 minutes per swap seems to be more realistic, for now. Still better than charging.

For everyone complaining about Chinese designers copying German designs they should probably know NIOs are designed by Germans in Germany. The BMW comparisons are probably warranted since the one who runs NIO's design team is the former head of BMW exterior design. For more information search NIO Munich, autonomy and those functions are done in San Jose California.
the ET7 design team had a Tesla approch while making this car. Very few buttons and the roof can't open. I prefer the ES8 and ES6 in terms of convenience, they're more like traditional german cars.
