Proposal: What would have happened to Italy if General Alberto Polio (Chief of Staff of the Italian Army from 1908 to 1914) had not died of a heart attack in 1914 and had successfully convinced the Italian government to join the fight on the side of the Central Powers. According to what I have learned from his Italian Wiki, he was considered a capable general of the Italian army whose research on the Battle of Waterloo was highly regarded by the German General Staff, and he even discussed with the Austrian Chief of Staff Conrad von Hötzendorf the plan to transfer the Austrian and German railways to Italian divisions to reach the Rhine border. In order to become part of the left wing of the German army in the Schlieffen Plan. And most importantly, this general was considered a staunch supporter of the Central Powers, having married a high-ranking Austrian noblewoman and having a very good relationship with General Von Moltke and General Von Hötzendorf (his death in 1914 is considered a reason why Italy abandoned the Central Powers and joined the Entente in 1915). Fun fact: at the time Alberto Polio was the chief of staff of the Italian army, General Luigi Cadorna was the commander of the Genoan army stationed near the French border. He was actively building forts and training soldiers in preparation for a war (according to Cadorna) that was about to come with France.
Interessting proposal... hmmm, the additional manpower early in the conflict WOULD have made it more likely for the Central Powers to achieve a breakthrough, especially if Austrian and Italian Troops would've been deployed in that area, freeing up several German divisions that could've either lent more weight and power to the southern parts or could have been used as reserves in the north... hmmm.... That is assuming that things in the east pan out in a similar fashion as they did historically - both the good and the bad (from the CPs point of view).
@@MajorCoolD Although it is quite complicated, I can offer some of the things I can think of (note that Italy would have entered the war in 1914): 1 Of course the Italians would have been much better prepared for war than they were in real life as the main force facing France, the Genoan Army, had been prepared for war for about 2-3 years. 2 The Schlieffen Plan would have been much more successful than it was in real life as it had an additional 100-150k Italians on the left flank to support it. Plus a small Austro-Hungarian force (about 50-100k) instead of being stationed on the Italian border in 1914 would have been involved in the Schlieffen Plan. Similarly the French and British forces on the Western Front would have been significantly smaller due to the large number of troops being sent to the Franco-Italian front. Although it is hard to say whether the Schlieffen Plan would have been successful with these things. 3 German military operations on the Western Front would be more effective because they had fewer French and British troops to deal with. Also Austria-Hungary could actually support Germany on the Western Front because they did not have the burden of the Italian front. It is likely that the French military would maintain a defensive doctrine throughout the war because of this. 4 While we can debate the capabilities of General Luigi Cadorna. It is important to note that his war plans and objectives for Austria forced the Austrian general staff to maintain a large force (nearly 20 divisions) consisting mostly of Austria's best units. Because they would rather lose Galicia to Russia than have Italy directly threaten Vienna. It is likely that Luigi Cadorna would do the same with France combined with German and Austrian support. This would force the Anglo-French forces to commit between 250k and up to 400k to defend the area. 5 The absence of the Italian front would simply have made the Austro-Hungarian army more effective. Because they would not have had to spend nearly 20 divisions fighting Italy. As a result they would have had better results on the Serbian front and with Russia. 6 Similarly the Eastern front would have ended sooner. Because there would have been more Austro-Hungarian troops there and less pressure on the Western front. This would have allowed Germany to exploit the region's resources much more effectively than in real life. 7 The Balkan front would have been much bleaker for the Entente because in real life Italy helped evacuate part of the Serbian army to Greece and Albania after they were routed by Bulgaria. But with Italy joining the Central Powers, this would not have happened. And Greece would have simply had to deal almost alone with the Italians in Albania + the Bulgarians + the Austro-Hungarians + possibly the Ottomans. A disaster for them. 8 With Italy as an ally, the Ottomans would have faced less pressure on the Sinai-Levant front because the British would have had to deal with the Italian garrison in Libya. And if I remember correctly, in 1914, there were 100-150k Italian troops stationed in Libya combined with the Ottomans in the Levant, which was more than enough for the Central Powers to threaten the Suez Canal. Similarly, France would have had to send troops to Tunisia to deal with the Italian garrison in Libya. 9 The Gallipoli campaign probably would not have taken place because the Italian navy could have ambushed and disrupted the logistics of the campaign. While the Ottomans, Austro-Hungarians, and Bulgarians had much less pressure and problems than in real life. And that also meant that the pressure and losses suffered by the Ottomans would have been even lower. 10 With the presence of the Italian Navy, the British navy would have had to withdraw some ships from the North Sea. Allowed the German Navy to operate more effectively and undermined the Entente's plans for a naval blockade of Germany.
Nicholas ii wasn't Queen Victoria's grandson his wife was her granddaughter but he and George V were both grandchildren of Christian IX of Denmark.....

Yay, I'm glad that you revisited the concept of alternate alliances in WWI. Another fun one would be Russia and Austro-Hungarian empire - Pretty likely considering that the empire was Russia's close ally for a long time, only to fall into political isolation thanks to not helping them in the Crimean war.
Wilhelm II loved his grandmother and used these familial ties to foster better relations between both countries. As Germany helped the British in South Africa, the proximity could have been used to keep both countries close. The proble is that Edward VII hated Wilhelm II with passion. He did everything he could to harm the British German relations, including pushing Britain closer to France. Now, the Russo-French Entente was a thorn on the side of both Britain (Great Game) & Germany (European hegemony intentions).
George V and Tsar Nicholas were cousins through their mothers which were princesses from Denmark. while George V and Wilhelm was cousins through queen victoria. Tsar Nicholas and wilhelm were not cousins. So george and nicholas just got their mothers genes, maybe.
I think something similar could be possible, if Whillelm II's father, Kaiser Frederich III, who died 88 days after coronation, didn't smoke, he was a liberal, and wanted to reform Germany into a Constitutional monarchy like britain, Bismarck already was preparing for his reign, so Most likely he wouldn't be fired, With Both Frederich III and Bismarck seeking an Alliance with Britain, and If, like in the video, Edward VII dies earlier, An Alliance with Britain could be possible. As For Russia, if Alexander ii wasn't killed, he would have stablished a earlier duma, making russia a Constitutional monarchy like britain, again, and could improve relations. With Bismarck remaining and without Whillelm II, Bismarck could renew the Three Cousin Alliance or instead, Choosing/Aprooching an Alliance with Russia, like how they did with Áustria-Hungary, since they had similar regimes and their family ties
I wrote an alternate history just like this while I was bored in my world history class, except Britain just kept up the rivalry with France and Prussia with Austria, leading Britain to ally with Germany and Austria to ally with France. Then Russia went to war with Austria when Franz Ferdinand was assassinated, France saw this as an attack against their ally so they joined the war, and Germany and Britain joined the war on Russia’s side to ensure that France and Austria do not become too powerful.

Why would Italy ally itself to Austria after Bosnia, if there was a country which was pissed off at the annexation of Bosnia it was Italy, mainly bc one of the terms of the triple alliance was that they couldn't expand in the balkans without consulting their allies first, but Austria didn't notify Italy, so Italy didn't ratify the triple alliance and started a mission in Vlore to exert influence in albania. It was specifically this the biggest reason Italy didn't join ww1 on the CP side, also otl they had to choose between trying to get Nice, Savoy, Corsica and a lot of colonies or Trento, Trieste and Dalmatia, here they don't even have to chose as all their enemies are allied, they are a natural ally of the cousins' alliance, it makes no sense for them to be allied to France and Austria

17:43 "France would lose some minor French colonies" Picture:Literially all French possession in Africa is taken except for Algeria and empty land in the Sahara.
Idk I feel like it isn’t that far fetched for Britain and France to be hostile to each other considering they had only been friendly for like 50 years vs over 500 years of fighting. And Germany had fought a war with Austria recently as well.
I think the same too. Maybe I should have mentioned France in the video, saying that they are also rivals to Britain. I think that Napoleon III finally allied with the British, so after he is deposed and the Republic came to power, they continued that. Maybe Napoleon doesn't get captured at Sedan, but is still deposed and somebody else from the house of Bonaparte comes to charge, but with anti-British views
While Georg V was cousin to both Wilhelm II and Nicolas II (having common grand-parents with each), these to were a bit further away from each other - Nicolas' paternal great-great-grand-parents (Paul I and Sophie) were also great-great-grand-parents of Wilhelm II, plus Wilhelm II's paternal great-grand-parents (Friedrich Wilhelm III and Louise) were also great-great-grand-parents to Nicolas II. Though this double connection between the prussian and russian royal/imperial houses was already 2-3 generations old. Edward II was actually even closer related to Wilhelm II than Georg V was (Uncle instead of Cousin), so at least the closer relations to Germany could easily have started before his death. With Georg V taking over, they would both take Russia into the boat.
I feel like Italy would join the cousins alliance because they could have a easy victory with opportunities to expand into southern France Tunisia Austria Hungary and the Ottoman Empire
I agree here, but I wanted to make a more interesting video, because all of France, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire performed poorly in the Great War, so them being the only allies would make for a really boring video
Britain, Germany and Russia forming an alliance? That would've been terrifying. In fact, that would've been the new central powers, but instead of Germany being the only one that is competent, both their allies are.
Bro just read through the comments. Some people miss these warnings and insult me that I think it could have happened. I need to do them as I don't want people to know that I am for real
can you make a video about if the habsburgs won the spanish war of succession? it wont be to unrealistic because the main reason the bourbons won (from what ive heard) is because france wouldnt give up when they were losing heavily and dragged out the war so long that the habsburg claiming the spanish throne ascended to emperor of the HRE after 2 emperors died and nobody wanted him to have that much power so they let the bourbons be in charge so all that needs to change is france giving up or the 2 HRE emperors living longer

17:43 "France would lose some minor French colonies"
Picture:Literially all French possession in Africa is taken except for Algeria and empty land in the Sahara.
Yes, but they get to keep their Asian and American holdings
All of their African colonies were minor when compared to Algeria, tbh.
Nice vid only for the peace conference the sudetenland is primarily german at the time so it would probably be annexed by germaney too
Yep, a big mistake on my part
will there be a christmas special video this year?
Proposal: What if South korea won the Korean war? Also great video!
I have considered it, will make a video on it soon! (1-2 months)
1:00 now we need video "what if Balkan formed 1 strong country"
The family reunions must be insane
Then German & Russian Empire would survived in long term today with British monarch
People keep think RH has a bias on Bulgaria but he made Bulgaria lose
No matter what I cannot beat the aligations, so I am always screwed
@@rewriting-history fr
The audio says all german speaking areas go to germany but the map only shows modern austria and south tyrol going to germany
Yes I should have included the Sudetenland, my bad
its weird that the video length is 19 minutes and 11 seconds?
Not weird, it took me a while to make it like that
Imagine WW2 in this scenario real quick with a divided or united Cousins Alliance.
Gonna be real crazy
Hey rewriting history can you make a video on what if Carthage won the Punic wars?
1:09 Damn , unexpected jjk on an alt-history video ? Based
Lets go
This is what alt history should be fun and wacky it doesn't need to make sense just be entertaining
This is also my take and style. I also want some wacky stuff like Albania landing on the moon. I guarantee you people would watch that
@@rewriting-history I'd love to see more wacky videos
whats the song in 9:54
Nice vid
If it did happen in real life (unlikely) then I want the alliance to be called “the 3 cousins alliance”
I doubt Romania's alliance with Russia post-war. King Ferdinand was a German and the Russians still occupied Moldova. Good video.
I appreciate that you liked it!
W video🔥🔥🔥
I appreciate that!
New idea:What if Hungary won the Revolution of 1848 or 1956
Britain, Germany and Russia forming an alliance? That would've been terrifying. In fact, that would've been the new central powers, but instead of Germany being the only one that is competent, both their allies are.
08:20 I dont have dementia you dont have to remind that again and again
Bro just read through the comments. Some people miss these warnings and insult me that I think it could have happened. I need to do them as I don't want people to know that I am for real
W for makeing the video 19 minutes and 11 seconds long
Appreciate that
@@rewriting-history btw I loved the video keep up the good work
can you make a video about if the habsburgs won the spanish war of succession? it wont be to unrealistic because the main reason the bourbons won (from what ive heard) is because france wouldnt give up when they were losing heavily and dragged out the war so long that the habsburg claiming the spanish throne ascended to emperor of the HRE after 2 emperors died and nobody wanted him to have that much power so they let the bourbons be in charge
so all that needs to change is france giving up or the 2 HRE emperors living longer
Ngl i dreamed for this alt
Damn the idea seems to be really popular, I hope you liked it!
@@rewriting-history I had my own version of this alt, also I did like it(THANKS FOR REPLYING TOO)
You could have put the kingsman origin as thumbnail
Germany: wants eastern europe and colonies
Russia: wants persia and balkan
Britain: wants persia and maintaining balance
