I'd wager the romans declaring war on eithet genoa or venice shortly after the league wars to reclaim their islands as alot of soldiers were tied up in italy, giving constantinople more seas and thus greater shipbuilding capacity and them banking on cutting the ottomans in two thatway and allying with the other power (most likely genoa) against the ottomans and gaining resupplying power and naval dominance thatway. Also they might garner 1-2k more soldiers to defend constantinope from the islands.
hey rewrtining history can you please to a video about "what if everything went perfect for yazidism"(my religion) it would mean the world to me since you are one of my fav histroy teacher.
Venice would’ve never gained Constantinople with the blessing of the papacy: the fact that the republic was already so powerful meant that the pope would’ve never accepted such a thing. Most importantly, the Cambrai league was not that far away in time. Frankly, I see no country conquering Constantinople without the rest of Europe reacting in a bad way. Btw I love the example of Thessaloniki: it was so unexpected that the republic didn’t know at all what to do with it. Its loss didn’t even bother them that much, since doge Foscari was more focused on territorial expansion in Italy and deemed Thessaloniki (rightly in my opinion) a lost cause
@@rewriting-history as I remember, that scenario includes: Byzantine selling their Peloponnese possessions to either Genoa, Venice or making them free, choosing what to put on their ships (like Greek fire) instead of supplies, leaving them in a harsher situation at the start but allowing to use the tech later. Then they sail out, *HOPING* there's some land out there. During a storm, one of the ships crashes in Bermuda, while the rest arrive in what is modern Washington DC. They call the land Elysia. Then for a couple decades or so they freely develop (with hindrances such as the crisis of identity (are we Romans or someone new, Elysians?) and religion and lack of supplies) After these decades of unrestricted expansion, Europeans finally reach what is supposed to be empty land to discover a large developed nation of people speaking Greek and claiming to be the inheritors of Byzantium / Eastern Roman Empire. After some time, the nation of Elysia / Rhōmanía (depends on what identity they embrace) has a question: remain in Elysia (aka stay semi isolationist in North America), try to achieve global dominance (aka play a role of another Colonial Power) or Reclaim Rome / Constantinople (only if they embraced being Romans)
Its actually not that unlikely that had Constantinople not fallen the Eastern Roman Empire could have recovered and even fought back. Simply put if Constantinople had resisted a few more month small but not insignificant reinforcements from Venice and Genoa would likely have materialised as both had vested interests in keeping the path to the black sea open and a Christian nation in control of the straights something a lot easier to gurantee with a weak Byzantium compared to the massive Ottoman Empire. As those reinforcements bolstered the Byzantine defenders the Ottomans would have to recruit more and more troops lost to attacks, disease, accidents etc as time passed the supplies to feed this massive force would become scarcer as they would find less and less to forage the lands already being looted would leave little to take. This would force the Sultan to spend more money for larger quantities of supplies that would have to be gathered over a larger and larger area of his empire a strain he would place on his vassals in the Bulkans if he's forces had not seized Constantinople with in the year Mehmet would have found his treasury depleting to feed, pay and maintain his soldiers, horses and cannons combined with his vassals growing discontent Christian Kingdoms such as the HRE and Hungary would have increased their routine border raids drawing more and more troops to the Balkan front yet further depleting manpower and wealth. As this happened the Mamlukes would have noticed the slow decline of Ottoman troops on their border and Venice who had been mustering a larger force would have likely launched this force by taking the Island of Crete out of their own interest while claiming it to be a stratedgic target before than reinforcng the besieged Constantinople dominating the Straights and raiding the coastlines. Mehmet now stuck on the European half of his empire could do nothing to stop his brother being shipped to the East and starting a war for his claim to the throne. As infighting in the Eastern territorries intensified and more troops from the borders withdrew to either back Ohri or Mehmet Mamlukes would begin to mobilise. Vassals in the West grow discontent further strains on their wealth, manpower and food supplies increase as Mehmet hopes to build a second army to cripple the Hungarians and end their raids while using the plundering and slaves taken from Hungary to fuel a campaign on Venice hoping to force their ships to return home and abandon Constantinople. But Serbia, Wallachia, Albania etc decide to instead join Hungary and march against the Ottomans in their weakened state the remenance of the Bulgarian Kingdom begin raiding the lands and mustering the support of Bulgarians in the region.
I think a bit more research should have been done , because a fleet of Gneoa was n their way and if Giustinani wasn't injured and brought to the hospital the troops would have arrived and the ottomans would've lost
I think the main problem was the Wars of Lombardy which occurred during the Siege, not that the Genoese fleet was on it's way. As I prevented the Wars of Lombardy by ending them a year or two earlier, Genoa can respond better. During the Siege they were at war, so of course they needed their boats elsewhere.
Because they relied on trade from India, with the new sea route they lost their monopoly. Then they didn't colonize and were later taken by stronger powers like France and Austria
If not in 1453 then in 1454 or by 1455. There is little chance of Constantinople surviving an ascendant Ottoman Kingdom. It is still a kingdom in 1453 and will not become a proper empire till 1517.
I think "Mehmed the Mid" would have been a very funny title lol

My history teacher in 7th grade told us about that if ottomans didnt get istanbul (aka constantinople) world technology would be worste than today.Because scientist's in istanbul would never go to europe (that teacher is one of the best teachers i ever meet)
What if the queen of burgundy married the ruler of Brandensburg instead of Austria (and the Union stayed or Brandensburg annexes them i guess).
*What if France went through Switzerland to attack Germany?*
HI! LOVE YOUR CONTENT
Glad to hear!
Does this video end with Greater Bulgaria?
Its not really Greater, just a free Bulgaria
@@rewriting-history Finished watching, I'm satisfied
"If venice and genoa achieve naval superiority they could blockade the ottomans from accessing the balkan peninsula." Is that an eu4 reference?
Which will be your next series? I hope the Bulgarian one
It looks like it will be anything but the Bulgarian one
@@rewriting-history Why, everyone wants the Bulgarian
Could you make a part 2?
I don't think so, there isn't a lot to add, just the Balkans are free.
It's impossible to not be a venetian nationalist, their flag is so cool
Exactly!
Lets all agree guys, Eastern Roman Empire sounds so much better than Byzantium
I disagree
Could you do a sequel to this?
Many people are requesting it, but I am not excited by this idea. I have other scenarios that I deem are more interesting to the viewers
What if I didn't run? What if I'm not a coward? What if I want them to kill me? What if I want them to try!!!
How to delay the Fall of Constantinople:
This is the alternate title
Ah i see an eu4 enjoyer at 5:15
Damn right!
Good that you make videos become 1800
hey rewrtining history can you please to a video about "what if everything went perfect for yazidism"(my religion) it would mean the world to me since you are one of my fav histroy teacher.
I like the idea, but I have never made a video on religion, so its very different from what I usually do
@@rewriting-historyit would be interesting and mean the world to me
Venice would’ve never gained Constantinople with the blessing of the papacy: the fact that the republic was already so powerful meant that the pope would’ve never accepted such a thing.
I may be overreaching with "Byzaboo" scenarios, but...
What if Byzantine discovered and fled to America (aka the Third Odyssey EU4 scenario)
Oooooo, I like this!
Ayo this is so unrealistic, but for some reason I find it really interesting!
Extremely unrealistic
And i adore it, i love that mod so much
@@rewriting-history as I remember, that scenario includes: Byzantine selling their Peloponnese possessions to either Genoa, Venice or making them free, choosing what to put on their ships (like Greek fire) instead of supplies, leaving them in a harsher situation at the start but allowing to use the tech later. Then they sail out, *HOPING* there's some land out there. During a storm, one of the ships crashes in Bermuda, while the rest arrive in what is modern Washington DC. They call the land Elysia. Then for a couple decades or so they freely develop (with hindrances such as the crisis of identity (are we Romans or someone new, Elysians?) and religion and lack of supplies)
After these decades of unrestricted expansion, Europeans finally reach what is supposed to be empty land to discover a large developed nation of people speaking Greek and claiming to be the inheritors of Byzantium / Eastern Roman Empire.
Fun fact: as i made this comment no one finished the video yet
Technically yes, I am waiting for a wave of comments after they finish watching
You're still not able to compete against the bots!
@@rewriting-historyI had a question of this tyyyyy
@@rewriting-historyhi
Wow
Video idea: what if Britain never united and scotland joined the side of napoleon
I'm trying to tell where your accent is from. Are you Polish?
Haha! I am Bulgarian, but nice Slavic guess! :)
Do a video about how Byzantium secured Anatolia before it would become a threat
I think a bit more research should have been done , because a fleet of Gneoa was n their way and if Giustinani wasn't injured and brought to the hospital the troops would have arrived and the ottomans would've lost
I think the main problem was the Wars of Lombardy which occurred during the Siege, not that the Genoese fleet was on it's way. As I prevented the Wars of Lombardy by ending them a year or two earlier, Genoa can respond better. During the Siege they were at war, so of course they needed their boats elsewhere.
Idea 5: What if bacons rebellion succeeded or never occurred?
Very fascinant 👏 🔥 👏 🔥 👏

I can, but the audience is not too interested in that as of now
Eu4 mentioned rahhhhhh
Best paradox game?
Why is Venice destined to fall?
Because they relied on trade from India, with the new sea route they lost their monopoly. Then they didn't colonize and were later taken by stronger powers like France and Austria
@@rewriting-history thanks, good to know
VENICE FOREVER (everything i know about venice is from civ 5 and eu4)
VENICE FOREVER!!!!!!!
Can you make a video on what would have happened if the Balkan League united in 1912?
You should do "what if Malta fell to the Ottomans"
If not in 1453 then in 1454 or by 1455. There is little chance of Constantinople surviving an ascendant Ottoman Kingdom. It is still a kingdom in 1453 and will not become a proper empire till 1517.
new video idea, what if byzantium and the new ottoman state entered a personal union?
14:02 Venician *Nationalist* like me

Do a vid on what if the kingdom of soissons survived
With Constantinople surviving, its possible that Greece existed with Constantinople being a micro state or its unrealistic?
Not possible, as somebody would invade such an important city
