    I worked for a few Electric Meter co. He's right it suppose to be $1 or less, per 10, However Most electric companies rip u off everyday. They add more cents. Everyone pays it, Instead of Everyone standing up together & fighting to lower the bill, & charge correct amount.

    Hey, thank you for this brilliant video. It's been very helpful, but I wonder if you could help me with a little problem. I've been trying to find out which electric metre in my block belongs to my flat (they're all digital). Can you tell me if there's a trick to find that out? My friend suggested that I turn the mains in my flat off and see which metre's readings are inactive. Do you think this will work?

    • @science8haskins
      @science8haskins  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yvonne Vaz your friend's suggestion seems like a good one and might work. The problem you might run into is the Change in KWH is a pretty large unit. I may take up to a half-hour to notice the change. The meter type might have a indicator that current is passing through the meter. Good luck.

    Ok. After watching this and figuring by your way...
    My issue since my meter installation I haven't changed anything in my home yet my bill last month TRIPLED this month doubled! We are terrified what the cost will be when winter comes. I have started monitoring my meter every hour sometimes every 2 hours...then over night it's 6 hours. From 1 pm yesterday to 1 pm today according to readings...I use 16 kwh per day. Yet my bills say I use 64kwh per day (last month) to 75kwh per day this month! Omg there is no way!! Consumers energy says oh well. Electrician I hired, by consumers suggestion, said NO WAY! What can I do!? Is there something else I should do while monitoring my meter?

    how to calculate average p.f for hexa digital energy meter

  • @yl_ohmeohmy
    @yl_ohmeohmy ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello, thank you for this video! My utility company’s digital bidirectional meter shows another measurement not listed in your video with the units in kW. Not kWH. Utility company says it is “Max kW Delivered” How would I use this measurement in these equations? Thank you.

    • @science8haskins
      @science8haskins  ปีที่แล้ว

      kW would be a measure of energy delivered at a specific point of time. Think of a microwave that uses 1400 watts or 1.4kw. That would draw that much energy through the meter per second. For billing purposes, they should be looking at the amount of kWh between measurement periods - a total amount of energy used. Max delivered might impact peak energy usage if your provider has such limits.

    • @yl_ohmeohmy
      @yl_ohmeohmy ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, does that mean if I shut the electricity off in the house, would this measurement drop to 0kw? I have solar panels and the usage remains high aka high bills. I’m not sure what to do.

    • @science8haskins
      @science8haskins  ปีที่แล้ว

      @Yonatan Lautman it might be a max reading over a time period- like 24 hours. If you turned off all power, there would be no change in kWh readings.

    • @yl_ohmeohmy
      @yl_ohmeohmy ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, that makes sense. The issue I'm dealing with is a real headscratcher and not sure who to ask for help. Anyone I ask to come on site is unauthorized to open the utility meter as it's against the law, yet the utility company refuses to come out to inspect the meter. Our statements show continued high consumption in kWh, even with solar panels! It doesn't make sense. The solar consultant said the average reading should be about 5kW, whereas our meter has been anywhere 9-13kW for most of the year. Suddenly this week it changed to 6kW. I'm not sure the source of this measurement and how it plays a role in calculating the monthly statement invoice.
      To add additional confusion to the mix, the reading dates between the solar power and the utility company are not apples to apples! One starts beginning to end of the month, whereas the other measures mid-to-mid of the month. So cross referencing is an utmost 🤯. Thank you for listening to my rant. Any suggestions is appreciated!

    I hate digital meters. All I want to know is if I’m using a ton of electricity right now. The old analog ones you’d see the dial spinning like crazy, these digital ones mine just blinks from a test display, to how many volts which is always 242, to how many total kilowatts hours. It’s very hard to tell if I’m using a ton of electricity right this second. Just venting I really wish the meters would be able to tell you your kilowatt usage at that moment, and wish I could stop mine from constant cycling.

      Yes. That is a draw back to digit meters. Video the meter took your device see a llthe numbers in the sequencee Then, come back 1 hr and do it again. Record the kwh on the videos. It will tell you if you used more than a kwh in the lapsed time.

      Can't you just go to the meter and get a reading at one point in time and then go back to the meter and get a second reading at anytime and then just calculate on that? For instance if I get a rating at 8 in the morning and then at 8 in the evening I know that 12 hours has gone by so I subtract the second reading from the first and that's how much I used per 8 hours. Divide that by 8 and that's how much I used per hour that period, no?

    This wasn't the best explanation , , I got 2 heat pumps in 2012 and I record the meter readings 2-3 times a week ever since ,I have a large scribbler and each page in a month each line is a day (months with 31 days i have to add a line) and I'm very good at it .. This morning Jan 2 /2020 the power company came and exchanged my old meter for a smart meter , I'm on here making sure I'm reading it right..

    Why not do it in 30 days. Nobody cares how much they use in a 3 day period

      This was created for a classroom activity for middle school students. You could do it after 30 days for a month's usage. You could record for a week and scale it to a month's use.
