Electric services across the state and country have transitioned to Advanced Meter Infrastructure, or Smart meters, and not all consumers have seen them as an improvement.
Companies are manipulate the meters. Does anyone consider that smart meter allows the power company to speed up your meter! That is why alot of people are saying the smart meters are reading more or faster.
These meters are so smart that mine is switched with some other persons meter from a completely different state. Now when that random person doesn't pay their bill, my power gets shut off!
The most concerning part of this story is that she opted out of the smart meter and agreed to pay the additional monthly charge. Then when she wasn't home the smart meter was installed. Was it a simple mix up with the service techs not knowing she opted out, or was it something more dark?
Utility companies with elecrtical or plumbed lines to your property do have a legal right to access your property to perform service on those utility delivery and monitoring systems, so that is not trespassing. However, the courteous thing to do would be for them to schedula a time with the property owner to make such a visit. The power pole at the street was recently replaced, as was the pole at the back of my lot routing the lines to my meter. Scheduling was awkward, but it was maintenance thst needed doing, because the poles were aging and beginning to rot. I'd guess they were about 70 years old, maybe older. But I am NOT a fan of the new remote-controllable smart meters. I just received a notice that my old spinning disc, electro-mechanical meter with numbered dials showing KWH usage over time, will be replaced in the next year or so with a smart meter that sends usage data to them every 15 minutes, and that they can connect or disconnect remotely. I'm not sure if it sends the data in real time, or if it records the data internally, then is remotely downloaded and read by a vehicle at the street. But it does give them more control over customers. We do not have rates that change for high and low usage periods, just one single rate, so this would let them charge more for peak times. It would not discourage use unless the customer was constantly kept aware of the hourly rate throughout the day, and appeared inside the house somewhere on an LCD panel where the KWH rate would appear, and perhaps the rate at which the electricity is being consumed, in KW per hour, like a speedometer or tachometer in a car.

If you have an airbnb, vacationers are going to ask if the place has a smart meter then ultimately rent the place that doesn't. Goodbye rental income. No one wants smart meters. Marin County in California has put moratoriums on them.
I'm in NW Ohio (AEP) On the website, they said anyone is able to "opt out" but may have to pay a monthly fee. They had the estimated instillation dates for various cities and that they would send out a letting 2 weeks prior to instillation with information about the process. We never received anything and one day out of the blue they show up in our neighborhood. They put a paper in the door and go about installing the meters without any consent. Fortunately my wife stays at home with our children and she knows me and told them we were opting out. (I had already previously called them and told them this. So this is the second time...you would think they would get the point. 3 months later...she notices another truck parked on our street as she is just getting home and another person from AEP was just about to try and install their little smart meter. SHe again told them we opted out...they made a phone call and said something was mailed to me (yesterday)...but they went on their way. This is getting ridiculous...

I am a cosmetologist for the last 44 years, I specialized in haircuts for 37 years, I haven’t changed my shampoo or laundry detergent, we never keep our heater on while we sleep, we rarely even need our heater in winter! I m wondering if the water plant changed or added a new chemical too!
I own outright, mortgage free, cash buyer but I'm in an apartment block where most don't. I pay 90 pounds a month for onsite staff yet they're so desperate for these smart meters they will now only read my meter once a YEAR. I've explained its illegal and against the law and it's my human right to monitor my usage literally written into the law. I've explained prices have risen 250% on energy so I want to monitor usage, I've explained it will end up with one huuuuge bill etc etc etc but nope, no chance it's just "If you don't like it get a smart meter" that's *Wales and West Housing* if anyone's a lawer and feels like helping people out. They're so desperate for those meters it's insane, whenever the government are desperate like that I automatically won't comply. Thing is, I can easily afford to do so, its all the single mothers in here that will get SMASHED with a huge bill that I feel sorry for not quite understanding the current energy market (I've tried to elucidate but mention energy markets I get glassy eyes). My point is it's not as easy as saying no to anything these days friend. They make your life so unbearably difficult that most end up complying they in fact have to even though its highly illegal. I've always prided myself on being the awkward 1% that doesn't follow the herd but when everyone is running to jump off a cliff and you're the only one running in the opposite direction *you* look like the crazy one 😔
At the end of the segment that news lady just spouted some statement from the power company about them only being able to monitor your usage in real time. They can tell if you're home or not. It's called analytics. It might take a certain amount of time but they could tell just by your usage.

From Canada we had a digital smart meter installed without notice too…when I discovered it, within a week I had my analog back, I demanded it and filled out an opt out form. Told my friend nearby and he did the same thing.
What I did was install mirrors on the inside of house behind smart meter that deflect allot of it look on your street poles at intersection red lights see all the new equipment that also has something to do with it
There are questions I have about the reliability of smart meters I have some background in instructions an the biggest problem with the ability of smart meters in industrial meters has been static electricity lightning. It does an will change the calibration of instruments. The accuracy goes out the window. When I asked this question on the other channels provided by the company’s that test I get shutdown it won’t take my question so did I hit a nerve . We are more likely being take for a ride this a question that needs to asked and demands independent review.
Exactly what I thought, I have never had this much static electricity in my hair, my skin feels dry too, we had it for one month so far! My husband answered the door and said sure go ahead, had I answered I would have said we opt out!
I opt out but no longer get charged monthly fee they without notice changed my good running analog for an updated analog but I feel it’s a smart meter with analog dials cause no fee now, sleep disturbed every 3 hours, got tinnitus, get neck pains too. Sdge broke my padlock ignored no trespass signs, second time cut padlocks at my place. This company is ruthless, we should start a class action case against them. Also charge me by tiers how if no smart one do they know hours of use? I get dry hair, itchy skin, every time I plug radio into any home outlet it gives noisy static buzz sounds cannot hear the talk host voice even. It’s a nightmare the harms. Feedback please.

So take a battery powered AM radio around your home holding it up to outlets, transformers and switches. Monitor the electronic noise coming from it. Almost every device makes some sort of electronic noise, but certain transformers and dimmer switches will make a lot of noise. Malfunctioning electronics will make lots of noise. This can interfere with TV, Radio, WIFI and Cellular reception. Any device can malfunction, and even neighbors devices can malfunction causing problems in your home. @maryannsinopoli1751
I've owned my HVAC business for 20 years. This last 5-6 months i have heard more complaints about high power bills than I have in the last 19 plus years combined. It's not the price of electricity is going up, it's people's power usage is rising dramatically. Which is odd, being everything is supposed to be getting energy efficient. The question is, What are some of the things businesses have done to make higher profits? Would a business put an algorithm in their system that increases people's energy usage numbers, so they'll make more profit?(an extra 2% here, 3%there...) How do we know we are paying for only the energy that we used? How do we know the new meters are calibrated properly, and are reading energy usage properly? They aren't mechanical like the old ones. IDK what's up
Smart breaker panel and compare the numbers to what the power company is charging vs what you read from the breakers. They may differ but if you see a substantial difference somethings up with one of the readings

Just a thought...homeowner goes out to his meter once a month and phones in the reading, enters the reading digitally. Do the gas meter while your there.
Thanks samlol23 for *proving* smart meters are killing over 100 people every month. Why should the customer pay for a lead apron? It is far safer for the whole family and pets, if this homeowner wraps their smart meter in 2 layers of *aluminium foil* There is nothing the power company can do, because the *IDIOTS* smart meters are working in a high powered *UNLICENSED* radio band. Hawaiian Electric - RF frequency causes cancer . I asked about the Bluetooth technology and they told me it doesn't work that way . The website contradicts what i was told . If it so good , why lie ? My grandma pasted away , my brother and wife with 2 sons moved , my auntie and friend moved out , we shut off the heater in the day , we no longer us the electric stove . The power bill did not change ! Why ? How is this even possible ? 7 people leave and our appliances are shut off but the bill is same ! Only when we complained about this did it go down . How many people living in your home has nothing to do with electricity usage. 2 people can use just as much electricity as 15. It all depends on the people. It matters how much electricity the meter shows you are using.
I’ve been a meter tech for 27 years and have had my face close to them every day so far no heath problems . My old boss is retired now . And he worked 30 plus years as a meter tech we so check the meter every now and then for safety. To make sure they are in good working order . I remember when I would have to go to every house to read the meter most people were real nice to me but you all ways had those who were never nice . I always told myself this is a job😊😊

I am a retired electronics technician... and I doubt anyone is suffering physically from these meters. If you think you might be... you could build a SIMPLE Faraday cage around your bed or around a chair you sit in very often. A faraday cage is simply a metal screening "box" which surrounds you or the device you are trying to shield. It could be built with a few dollars of one-by-two inch boards and some metal window screening. Just build a box with the 1x2 boards... and staple the screening all around the box. If your health improves.... then you have proven that the radio waves from SOMETHING is causing your symptoms. What worries ME about these meters is not PHYSICAL issues but the FEES these meters might cause because they might implement HIGHER COSTS of electricity during peak usage times of day. NOBODY TALKS ABOUT THIS... but it seems to me the fluctuating cost of electricity during PEAK USAGE is the greatest issue we should be talking about.
My smart meter was forced after I just had the wiring n the house redone, and replaced the entire box, and contents. My bill jumped 88 bucks. I live in a 800 square ft house. Gas waterheater, and stove. Haven't even turned on a ceiling fan yet. Have window units for AC, but haven't turned them on yet. So I am disputing this because it's BS. And they act like you're using this many kilowatts and it's your fault.
In Fl. they will be charging us $15.60 per month to opt out. Now they have not done any work,does the same thing as far as them getting a reading. Take it that $15.60 is to make up revenue lost buy not having your information to sell.

Look at the faceplate of your smart meter. There is an FCC identification Number printed there. Plug the FCC number in the FCC's website and it will show you that the #1 radio transmitter operates at *35 watts* AND, did anyone else notice the ZigBee certification for the #2 radio transmitter? That's the one that tells your power company every "SMART APPLIANCE" in your home, make, model, serial numbers and how you use those appliances. *OUCH* All of this personal, private information is being sold to Google and other companies for a huge PROFIT. Meter reader comes bi monthly read incorrect in 2019, 10,000 more kWh put me as high user falsehood. They are bloodhounds, I dislike their attitude. A class action suit. I want to press charges. They also broke a ceiling a ladder when workman got into attic check furnace. No reimbursements all damages.They charge me $5.00 each month for gas when gas main is off. Corrupt as heck! They make us pay for their lawsuit judgments re wildfires. I pay a fee for wildfire too when I’m not in prone areas. Anyone have an alternative co. To suggest?
I opted out about a year ago and everything's been fine. Then one day when I wasn't home, but my wife was, one of their thugs snuck in and cut MY lock off the panel and changed the meter. He said his boss told him to do whatever it takes to get that meter changed. Thugs, that's all they are. I bet my next bill is at least double what I've been paying. Thugs. Good for nothing thugs.

What no one seems to know is that the Supply can REDUCE your power supply time WHEN THEY WANT OR LIMIT WHAT YOU USE IN PEAK HOURS. Several months ago our city utilities came & installed a smart meter. Before I used to sleep 9 to 10 hrs/night. Now I suffer from lack of sleep, 3 or 4 hrs/night. I now have bloody blotches on my arms & Dr. does not Know the cause. My youngest daughter has a gastric implant & it has failed??? I'm tired all day and do not feel well. I am tempted to buy a faraday cage but don't know if its legal. I did not want the smart meter but had no choice but extra charges/month. My wife is disabled & I am handicapped both on SS. I just don't know what to do.
Im trapped in a neighborhood that installed smart meters last week. I want to move so bad but they made sure I'm destitute so I cant do a damn thing except wait to die. This prison will only get worse sadly. People are too dumbed down or stressed or broke to care.

Yes. The government is made up of regular people that have kids, parents etc. That's why you can not currently fly on a Boeing 737MAX. Or that your car has airbags and seatbelts. They want to cause your death so they can pay someone good money to find your roll of quarters.

I guess it would be a violation if utility company was owned by the government and you didn't agree or want to have power to your house in the first place. Do you tell your cable company what type of cable box to be put in your house? Do you tell your cell phone company what kind of battery to use in the phone? If you dont like the way your utility company does things and dont want an electric meter then cancel the service, no one is forcing you to have it
If you feel that way maybe you should not buy electricity from a private power company. What about your cell phone bill - you get charged for the usage which is calculated on your use of the phone and they read that remotely. What about the fact that the power meter is on the outside of your house not in your castle? Or what if the power company put the meter on the pole leading up to your house? I think it's all the same. I am buying their service and they don't want to send a guy around at $20 bucks an hour to read your meter all over town. I think I draw the line if they are analyzing my power usage to sell me something or raise my future rates based on my consumption pattern. I would then sue them if I could. But ultimately I 'm buying their service - I can l opt out of no electricity if I want to.

If you can find it, there was a video by a data company geared to utility companies - it boasted of the ability to create "attitudinal, behavioral profiles" on each customer and would sell that to the utility for the price of a cup of coffee. The company was called Onzo. YT deleted it. I could go on but won't. I don't have a cell phone, that is my choice as I will not willingly carry around a tracking device that is monitoring my speech and everywhere I go and who I meet with.

He knock on my door and told me me that the power was going to be out for about 15 minute I told him not to put the smart meter he said okay but that I will be charge ten dollars extra a month. We got ours in 1 month ago, my hair has more electricity than ever, my skin is dryer than normal, I am a Cosmetologist and did hair for 37 years, no matter what conditioners I use I can tell a difference! It is illogical for someone to be more concerned about background noise from a device that is passively measuring electricity than they are about the electricity itself flowing through her entire home, the same electricity that is powering the device passively measuring it and that she pays the electric company to provide for her (and probably raises hell if it goes out) and what type of background RF or electrical noise is being produced this throughout her whole home. Companies are manipulate the meters. Does anyone consider that smart meter allows the power company to speed up your meter! That is why alot of people are saying the smart meters are reading more or faster.
These meters are so smart that mine is switched with some other persons meter from a completely different state. Now when that random person doesn't pay their bill, my power gets shut off!
The most concerning part of this story is that she opted out of the smart meter and agreed to pay the additional monthly charge. Then when she wasn't home the smart meter was installed. Was it a simple mix up with the service techs not knowing she opted out, or was it something more dark?

Utility companies with elecrtical or plumbed lines to your property do have a legal right to access your property to perform service on those utility delivery and monitoring systems, so that is not trespassing. However, the courteous thing to do would be for them to schedula a time with the property owner to make such a visit. The power pole at the street was recently replaced, as was the pole at the back of my lot routing the lines to my meter. Scheduling was awkward, but it was maintenance thst needed doing, because the poles were aging and beginning to rot. I'd guess they were about 70 years old, maybe older.
But I am NOT a fan of the new remote-controllable smart meters. I just received a notice that my old spinning disc, electro-mechanical meter with numbered dials showing KWH usage over time, will be replaced in the next year or so with a smart meter that sends usage data to them every 15 minutes, and that they can connect or disconnect remotely. I'm not sure if it sends the data in real time, or if it records the data internally, then is remotely downloaded and read by a vehicle at the street. But it does give them more control over customers. We do not have rates that change for high and low usage periods, just one single rate, so this would let them charge more for peak times. It would not discourage use unless the customer was constantly kept aware of the hourly rate throughout the day, and appeared inside the house somewhere on an LCD panel where the KWH rate would appear, and perhaps the rate at which the electricity is being consumed, in KW per hour, like a speedometer or tachometer in a car.

I'm in NW Ohio (AEP) On the website, they said anyone is able to "opt out" but may have to pay a monthly fee. They had the estimated instillation dates for various cities and that they would send out a letting 2 weeks prior to instillation with information about the process.
We never received anything and one day out of the blue they show up in our neighborhood. They put a paper in the door and go about installing the meters without any consent.
Fortunately my wife stays at home with our children and she knows me and told them we were opting out. (I had already previously called them and told them this. So this is the second time...you would think they would get the point.
3 months later...she notices another truck parked on our street as she is just getting home and another person from AEP was just about to try and install their little smart meter. SHe again told them we opted out...they made a phone call and said something was mailed to me (yesterday)...but they went on their way.
This is getting ridiculous...

I own outright, mortgage free, cash buyer but I'm in an apartment block where most don't. I pay 90 pounds a month for onsite staff yet they're so desperate for these smart meters they will now only read my meter once a YEAR. I've explained its illegal and against the law and it's my human right to monitor my usage literally written into the law. I've explained prices have risen 250% on energy so I want to monitor usage, I've explained it will end up with one huuuuge bill etc etc etc but nope, no chance it's just "If you don't like it get a smart meter" that's *Wales and West Housing* if anyone's a lawer and feels like helping people out. They're so desperate for those meters it's insane, whenever the government are desperate like that I automatically won't comply. Thing is, I can easily afford to do so, its all the single mothers in here that will get SMASHED with a huge bill that I feel sorry for not quite understanding the current energy market (I've tried to elucidate but mention energy markets I get glassy eyes). My point is it's not as easy as saying no to anything these days friend. They make your life so unbearably difficult that most end up complying they in fact have to even though its highly illegal. At the end of the segment that news lady just spouted some statement from the power company about them only being able to monitor your usage in real time. They can tell if you're home or not. It's called analytics. It might take a certain amount of time but they could tell just by your usage.

From Canada we had a digital smart meter installed without notice too…when I discovered it, within a week I had my analog back, I demanded it and filled out an opt out form. Told my friend nearby and he did the same thing.
We tried but they changed it when we were out of town, just the same.
A few years ago but still, frustrating.
What I did was install mirrors on the inside of house behind smart meter that deflect allot of it look on your street poles at intersection red lights see all the new equipment that also has something to do with it

There are questions I have about the reliability of smart meters I have some background in instructions an the biggest problem with the ability of smart meters in industrial meters has been static electricity lightning. It does an will change the calibration of instruments. The accuracy goes out the window. When I asked this question on the other channels provided by the company’s that test I get shutdown it won’t take my question so did I hit a nerve . We are more likely being take for a ride this a question that needs to asked and demands independent review.

I opt out but no longer get charged monthly fee they without notice changed my good running analog for an updated analog but I feel it’s a smart meter with analog dials cause no fee now, sleep disturbed every 3 hours, got tinnitus, get neck pains too. Sdge broke my padlock ignored no trespass signs, second time cut padlocks at my place. This company is ruthless, we should start a class action case against them. Also charge me by tiers how if no smart one do they know hours of use? Get a metal screen and put it over the meter. It shuts down the emissions put out by the meter.

So take a battery powered AM radio around your home holding it up to outlets, transformers and switches. Monitor the electronic noise coming from it. Almost every device makes some sort of electronic noise, but certain transformers and dimmer switches will make a lot of noise. Malfunctioning electronics will make lots of noise. I've owned my HVAC business for 20 years. This last 5-6 months i have heard more complaints about high power bills than I have in the last 19 plus years combined.
It's not the price of electricity is going up, it's people's power usage is rising dramatically. Which is odd, being everything is supposed to be getting energy efficient.
The question is,
What are some of the things businesses have done to make higher profits?
Would a business put an algorithm in their system that increases people's energy usage numbers, so they'll make more profit?(an extra 2% here, 3%there...)
How do we know we are paying for only the energy that we used? How do we know the new meters are calibrated properly, and are reading energy usage properly? They aren't mechanical like the old ones.

And he worked 30 plus years as a meter tech we so check the meter every now and then for safety. To make sure they are in good working order . I remember when I would have to go to every house to read the meter most people were real nice to me but you all ways had those who were never nice . I always told myself this is a job😊😊

I am a retired electronics technician... and I doubt anyone is suffering physically from these meters. If you think you might be... you could build a SIMPLE Faraday cage around your bed or around a chair you sit in very often. A faraday cage is simply a metal screening "box" which surrounds you or the device you are trying to shield. It could be built with a few dollars of one-by-two inch boards and some metal window screening. Just build a box with the 1x2 boards... and staple the screening all around the box. If your health improves.... then you have proven that the radio waves from SOMETHING is causing your symptoms. What worries ME about these meters is not PHYSICAL issues but the FEES these meters might cause because they might implement HIGHER COSTS of electricity during peak usage times of day. NOBODY TALKS ABOUT THIS... but it seems to me the fluctuating cost of electricity during PEAK USAGE is the greatest issue we should be talking about.
My smart meter was forced after I just had the wiring n the house redone, and replaced the entire box, and contents. My bill jumped 88 bucks. I live in a 800 square ft house. Gas waterheater, and stove. Haven't even turned on a ceiling fan yet. Have window units for AC, but haven't turned them on yet. So I am disputing this because it's BS. And they act like you're using this many kilowatts and it's your fault.

Look at the faceplate of your smart meter. There is an FCC identification Number printed there.
Plug the FCC number in the FCC's website and it will show you that the #1 radio transmitter operates at *35 watts*

They also broke a ceiling a ladder when workman got into attic check furnace. No reimbursements all damages.They charge me $5.00 each month for gas when gas main is off. Corrupt as heck! I opted out about a year ago and everything's been fine. Then one day when I wasn't home, but my wife was, one of their thugs snuck in and cut MY lock off the panel and changed the meter. He said his boss told him to do whatever it takes to get that meter changed. Thugs, that's all they are. I bet my next bill is at least double what I've been paying. Thugs. Good for nothing thugs.

Several months ago our city utilities came & installed a smart meter. Before I used to sleep 9 to 10 hrs/night. Now I suffer from lack of sleep, 3 or 4 hrs/night. I now have bloody blotches on my arms & Dr. does not Know the cause. My youngest daughter has a gastric implant & it has failed??? I'm tired all day and do not feel well. I am tempted to buy a faraday cage but don't know if its legal. I did not want the smart meter but had no choice but extra charges/month. My wife is disabled & I am handicapped both on SS. I just don't know what to do.

Cell phone radiation, yes there are 100,000's of people who can not use a cell phone because of the radiation from a 1 watt transmitter.

I guess it would be a violation if utility company was owned by the government and you didn't agree or want to have power to your house in the first place. Do you tell your cable company what type of cable box to be put in your house? Do you tell your cell phone company what kind of battery to use in the phone? If you dont like the way your utility company does things and dont want an electric meter then cancel the service, no one is forcing you to have it
If you feel that way maybe you should not buy electricity from a private power company. What about your cell phone bill - you get charged for the usage which is calculated on your use of the phone and they read that remotely. What about the fact that the power meter is on the outside of your house not in your castle? Or what if the power company put the meter on the pole leading up to your house? I think it's all the same. I am buying their service and they don't want to send a guy around at $20 bucks an hour to read your meter all over town. I think I draw the line if they are analyzing my power usage to sell me something or raise my future rates based on my consumption pattern. I would then sue them if I could. But ultimately I 'm buying their service - I can l opt out of no electricity if I want to.

It is illogical for someone to be more concerned about background noise from a device that is passively measuring electricity than they are about the electricity itself flowing through her entire home, the same electricity that is powering the device passively measuring it and that she pays the electric company to provide for her (and probably raises hell if it goes out) and what type of background RF or electrical noise is being produced this throughout her whole home. The meter is a fart in the wind. Not wanting one because you just dont want it is one thing, I know it is.....BUT, her concern about the meter was disproportionate to the circumstantial risks of the service as a whole.

#1 A smart meter will hurt or even KILL disabled homeowners who have disabled medical implants. The average of deaths by smart meter radiation and smart meter fires is almost 100 every month in North America.
#2 Did you know if your power company “turned off” the power to your home when they did a smart meter install, your chance of a smart meter fire increased by a factor of 10,000.
#3 Your power company has access to all of you private power information. Eg When you make tea, when you turn on your alarm etc. This private information is sold to Google for huge sums of money. Ask your power company what the second radio transmitter in your smart meter does. (ZigBee)
#4 A smart meter will cause cancer to return if your family members who are fighting cancer at home. If they come home from the hospital and sleep near a smart meter, they will die. Check with the US Cancer Society website.
#5 Smart Meter RADIATION will turn off breakers in your home. Both AFCI's and GFI's get turned off by the radiation from the smart meter.
#6 You smart meter is very accurate, BUT, the software (firmware) is programmable. Your bill has nothing to do with the power you use.
#7 Smart meter radiation is breaking Ionic Bonding.
#8 A huge expenditure for a huge loss. Billions of dollars to purchase something that does not general generate any power and each smart meter need 4 watts to operate. One million smart meters use 4,000 KILOWATTS of energy to operate.
