    Today we’ll be checking out the Momentum 3 Wireless, their top-tier active noise cancelling headphones. These offer fantastic build quality, are packed full of smart features and of course have Sennheiser’s signature sound quality. But with an eye-watering $400 launch price, they’re up against some tough competition in the premium ANC headphones market - especially with the likes of Sony’s excellent WH1000XM3. Having been available for some time now, the price has started to come down. So I thought it was a good time to reassess the value these flagship headphones offer in 2020.

    I'm a bit late I know, but this is a great and detailed review. Thank you! I tried all the usual suspects here in 2022, including Sony, Bose and the new Momentum 4. After listening to Sony's XM4 and XM5, along with Bose's 700 and QC45, the Momentum 4 really was a huge wow in terms of sound quality over the former, and even ANC was surprisingly good. The thing is I absolutely love the design of the Momentum 3 with its metal and leather (sorry, not sorry 😉), and when I recently saw them brand new on Amazon not far off half the price of the Mometum 4, it was 100% a no brainer. They'll make a great companion to my Beyerdynamics 900 ProX's.
    Cheers for the review 👍

      I just got these headphones a week ago. I had a pair of B&W PX7 that i used almost daily in the office for 3 years and they fell apart; first the artificial leather frayed on the earpads and the headband...i replaced the earpads but you are stuck with the headband...it looks like c***. Two months later the headband broke and now it is held together with tape. (never broke a pair of headphones before, but I guess the daily use was too much for the plastic they are made out of.)
      I decided to bite the bullet and buy the new Sony XM5. For two months i tried to get myself to like them but the confort was horrible...super shallow pads so my ears hurt after 2-3 hours, the tin band made the top of my head hurt as well. If you wear glasses it was even worse as the artificial leather on the pads squeaked with any small motion. The NC was god like and the sound quality was good; the feature set was the best I saw until now.
      Still I wanted to make them work so I bought new deeper pads...solved the confort issue...but NC was destroyed and also no more smart pause/play as they are super sensitive to the distance between the ear and the cup. Finally I had enough and sold them.
      Decided that it doesn't matter how headphones sound, or how smart they are or how good NC they have if my ears hurt while wearing them.
      After much research I had to choose between SM3 250EUR and B&W PX8 700EUR(PX7 S2 were not an option as I don't trust they won't fall apart on me again.) sound, build quality, decent anc, multi device pairing, usb c were the main criteria and after a quick wallet check i got the Sennheisers.
      Super happy with them(let's see how long the honeymoon lasts) and I hope they will last me more than 3 years i got from my previous pair of B&W PX7 :)

    This is a outstanding video, thank you for your production. Today I got XM3, and the sound quality was "significantly" worse than my 5 year old Sennheiser Momentum On Ear first generation one. Now I am quite confused by watching videos how people mention that XM3 is good. For me it is not, at all, comparable with Sennheiser Momentum On Ear. Do you really find the sound quality of XM3 and Momentum 3 similar?

    • @insidetechltd
      @insidetechltd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you.
      I think a lot of this is subjective. In terms of quality, I do think they are similar - relative to the rest of the market and competition, they perform similarly. But I would say that the Momentum 3 better produce the higher frequencies - so they have an edge. However, each person has a different listening preference. Many don't enjoy Sennheiser's treble, or prefer the bass-focussed sound of Sony. You can compare directly how each produces the range of frequencies, but ultimately, it's down to what each person thinks sounds good as to which has 'better audio quality'

    Thanks for the review, I’m looking to buy either the momentum 3 or the Marshall monitor 2 anc, in the UK there’s almost a £100 difference with the Sennheiser costing more, what your view on the Marshall are they still quality with sound and comfortable, it’s going to be the 1st time buying wireless anc headphones for me, I love the design of the Marshall but I’m worried that I won’t like the fit or sound, the Sennheisers have grown on me but I don’t know if the price is justified, be grateful for any advice thanks

    • @insidetechltd
      @insidetechltd  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For someone new to wireless ANC headphones, it's almost tempting to recommend the cheaper option (since you won't know what you're missing out on). However, i'd feel uncomfortable recommending Marshall's headphones knowing how much better Sennheiser's M3 are. I know £100 is a lot, but you really do get your money's worth. Remember, Sennheiser's Momentum 3 are literally one of the best money can buy (that's why they're so expensive), so do consider if you're looking for a budget pair or want to go all in. Marshall still wouldn't come under my personal 'budget' recommendations either though. The fit and sound is largely subjective - everyone's head shape and listening preference is different. So it's hard to say without you trying them out really.
      I'd recommend you stretch for the Sennheiser Momentum 3 - see how they fit and you can always return them if they're no good. But you really do get so much more for your money in terms of sound quality and features

  • @MrMakatech

    The big question here is if the Momentum 3 actually is giving you a better experience when listening to music comparing to Bose and Sony XM3? My impression is that many reviewers out there actually think Momentum 3 is slightly better for listening to music but say Sony and Bose offering the best noise-cancelling? Personally I prioritize the music listening quality slightly higher than the noise-cancelling option and I do find Momentum 3 good enough in this area too. I heard the new XM4 don't have aptx support which is strange?

    • @insidetechltd
      @insidetechltd  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it really depends on the reviewer's personal preference. Objectively you could say that Sennheiser's flatter, more balanced response is more accurate - but it's very common for people to prefer a warmer tone (i.e. that Sony provides). I don't really think the difference in 'quality' is big enough to declare a clear winner. It's more to do with the style of the sound - which is down to your own preference. And yes, surprisingly there's no aptX for Android with the XM4s!

    • @mkarlsson1354
      @mkarlsson1354 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@insidetechltd Ok, my impression is that a majority of reviewers think M3 is on top for music listening comparing to XM3 and Bose 700 but you are right, it's very personal. I rank the M3a sound for music higher myself but XM3 is lighter and more comfortable wearing, better battery time and better noise-canceling.

    How does the multi-device connectivity of the Momentum 3 compare to the Jabra Elite Active 65T?
    Before I lost the right earphone of the 65T (😞), they were the best earphones I ever used in terms of multi-device connectivity. I miss that feature dearly now that I've fallen back to my Sennheiser BTNC 4.50, which has very poor multi-device support (bluetooth 4.0)

    • @insidetechltd
      @insidetechltd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's similar, but better for one main reason: with the Momentum 3, you can tap play on the other device and it instantly switches over (you don't need to pause on the first device first). With the 65Ts, you have to pause on the first device first, otherwise it won't switch over. Hope this helps!

And the sound is better than the Bose, but not that much better than the 550ii. The app works much better with the momentum 3 than the 550ii and you don't have to pause to go to switch between two different sources. The eq is better also. But calls on the Bose are better imo. I guarantee that your Momentum 3 yolks will slide up and down the metal headphone rail like butter so you will never be able to enjoy them unless you never ever move. As an HD800 owner I have to say that I was really let down by the build quality and although the sound isn't bad at all I would recommend the Ananda BT if you want the highest detail retrieval in a bluetooth headphone on the market and are willing to pay for it. The best closed back bluetooth headphones on the market is definitely the drop Pandas. I still sold them once I heard the Ananda BTs.

    One thing when you use the usbc cable, you first need to press and hold the voice assistant button as you unfold the ear cups and wait for the led light to change from green to blue, then off.
    The manual says press and hold for 4 seconds.
    If you don't do this the headphones default to bluetooth wireless. You may think your listening through the cable but your actually listening to wireless Bluetooth. The way to confirm this that the volume is lower with the usbc cable. You need to turn the volume up.

    I wonder how they sound?
    (listening on the exact same headphones)
    Honestly though these are the most uncomfortable headphones stuff Ive ever worn. To the point of being painful wearing them for long periods, I don’t know much about headphones but whatever that little spring/spiral thing jutting out is completely ruins it. The headband is also extremely uncomfortable and will hurt after about 1-2 hours of wearing. Another awful thing is the “smart” on off. Literally any head movement turns it off for me, I’ll be laying down and look to the right and they pause. I’ll be standing up and turn to the left and they pause....One time, I was laying still and just moved my arms and they paused... was soooo annoying had to figure out how to disable because it would constantly pause. I don’t like the lack of power switch because there’s nothing to keep the headphones locked closed and I often find the battery has drained because my headphones got moved around so they’re constantly dead. Sort of want my m2s back to be honest, I’m not a big audiophile and can’t tell the difference by memory at least. Can’t complain though, I got the m2s in a Black Friday sale for 100 off. I broke the headphone port by standing up with them around me neck, and took them to Best Buy and got the m3s because I had a warranty 🤣 Pro tip, get the warranty. 60$, no questions asked and they don’t even check them to see if they’re broken. I had to pay the price difference and for a new warranty, but you basically get a pair of 400$ headphones for 60$. I feel bad as it is and would never lie, but you easily could lol. Warranty lasts like 2-3 years I believe so you can get a new model every few years lollll. You don’t even have to pick the same headphones I don’t think haha.

      @@insidetechltd apologies, had some tequila the other night and my drunken self gets pretentious. watched the full review and it was quite good. I will say though that getting a moral proposition right out of the gate was a bit jarring. I think a better way to handle it would have been to simply inform the viewer that "the headphones use genuine leather and if this is something disagreeable for you these might not be the headphones for you." rather than saying that (not verbatim) 'the choice of leather was disappointing and may be a dealbreaker, but for those not bothered by this the build quality is great' it sort of implies that the default moral position is to be against the use of genuine leather and that this detracts from the product for the general public. Also not to mention I am sure that there are plenty of questionable practices that go into the construction of most of these types of products that is far more concerning than the use of leather, it just seems misplaced and overly specific. In any case lovely review, I ended up actually deciding to buy these after watching this and I'm looking forward to see how well they perform for myself.

    • @insidetechltd

      I don't think so. This is my personal view on the subject, and this review is written from my perspective. If nobody put their personality into their reviews, then all reviews would be objective, stat lists - pointless.
      The way I see it, there are 3 ways one could react to my statement:
      1. You'll agree, and possibly even be educated by my stance with this.
      2. You'll disagree and move on.
      3. You'll disagree and actually be offended by someone else's view, rather than just accept someone feels differently.
      And if you're in this third group, I think it's perhaps time to reassess the situation. I won't pander to those third group people - and that's my choice.
      I understand not everyone will agree with my views, that's life. But I won't let that stop me making honest reviews. To those that enjoy my videos, i'm glad! To those that don't, i'm sorry it wasn't for you.
