Also bare in mind these products are all drugstore or online products that you don't need a prescription for. (KP is a chronic condition and for severe or resistant cases you may require prescription medication). Thank you all for the views on my previous videos. I'm so pleased you found them educational. Let me know what products are you using and how you are getting on with them.

    • @DrSimiAdedeji
      @DrSimiAdedeji  4 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      Hi, You're welcome. Yes you can especially if you are using them on skin other than your face because the skin is generally thicker. I would start with the cleanser and SA cream and then add in the retinol if you are not seeing enough results after about 4 weeks. i would also introduce the retinol gradually using it 2-3 times a week initially to start with. If you start to get irritation such as flaking of the skin, dryness or redness from using the retinol, (this is an acclimatisation period) I would cut down to once or twice a week and gradually build up from there. On the face, I would start with the cleanser in the morning and the retinol at night.

    You are a gift! I am 50. Struggled with eczema since senior year of high school. My mom never really spoke of such things and I found out much later in life that she struggled with it as well as many family members. Long story short we didn’t have the money or knowledge to do more than cover up and only see the doc for major flare ups. No discussion about triggers, or products to avoid in between. I don’t have a college ring because I was too embarrassed to stick out my hand to try rings on in public. People would flinch or look at my hands , arms and neck with pity. I was well in my 40s with good insurance and a thought to start self care. I am doing well but wish I had black women who were dermatologist to really see and understand. A slew or white men up until my 40s. I am actually still struggling to find one here that isn’t booked out months in advance. I want to focus on my face. You thrilled my by mentioning the light patches in another video. Everyone focuses on hyperpigmentation. I have some of the opposite that I want to stop covering. Anyway, SO happy you are in this space. Will share with my family. Your skin is gorgeous!

    Thank so much for your videos Dr Simi. I wish you were in Atlanta. I’d be your number one patient. I’ve suffered from KP for so long. I’m 35, African American and have hidden my legs from the world since I was a teenager. I dream of wearing certain fashions that I’ve never had the opportunity to wear such as a dress or even shorts. I also had chicken pox when I was 7. I’ve always thought it was old scars until recently when I found out I suffered from Hyperpigmentation and KP. The dermatologist wasn’t as near as detailed as you’ve been but I’m still appreciative. I’m going to purchase the items tomorrow and keep you posted on the out come. I’m thankful and blessed to have legs but I’m so ashamed of how they looked. This bothered me heavily for so many years. My self esteem isn’t near to the level it should be because of my legs. I’m not complaining though I just wish I could wear a dress and not feel self conscious about my legs. Thanks for all you do😀

      @DrSimiAdedeji  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi. Thank you for you lovely comment and also for sharing your experience! KP is classed as a cosmetic condition but the level of distress it can cause is significant. You shouldn't be ashamed of how your legs look. KP is often more noticeable to you than to other people. You can minimise the appearance of KP and hyperpigmentation and chicken pox scars are treatable too. Please do keep me posted on how you get on.
      Here is one way in which you could combine the products in your skincare routine. Note: you do not have to use all the products. If you are going for one product only, start with a leave-on product such as the SA smoothing cream which will be more effective than the cleanser because it remains in contact with your skin for longer.
      *AM*
      -CeraVe SA Smoothing Cleanser OR Touch KP Exfoliating body wash
      (you can swap out either of the above for Necessaire: The Body Exfoliator 1-2 times a week if you wish to)
      -CeraVe SA Smoothing cream
      -Sunscreen
      *PM*
      -CeraVe resurfacing retinol serum OR Paula's choice 1% retinol treatment
      (starting 2-3 times a week and building up slowly)
      Hope this helps!!

    This is the best KP video on TH-cam. I was just watching a video by the ADA and they provided the following KP tips.
    1. Keep baths and showers short
    5-10 minutes.
    2. Use a mild, fragrance- free
    cleanser
    3. Gently exfoliate (AHA, BHA,
    Retinoid, or Urea) skin once a
    week
    4. Use thick moisturizer on your
    skin. Look for moisturizers that
    have urea or lactic acid in them.
    I personally alternate between lactic, urea, and retinoid body lotions.

    another great video thank u! when using the cerave body cleanser and body washes in general do you recommend using body loofas/exfoliating gloves? even if you do it gently?

    • @DrSimiAdedeji
      @DrSimiAdedeji  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      You're welcome! I usually don't recommend physical exfoliants in skin care especially for the face because of the risk of causing hyperpigmentation in darker skin tones. Exfoliating gloves/loofahs when used incorrectly or even correctly but on sensitive or darker skin types can also cause hyperpigmentation. Of course, not every person who uses a loofah will have this problem and many people with darker skin tones use loofahs and exfoliating gloves with no problem. I general prefer the gentler action of chemical exfoliants to "dissolve" the glue that holds the dead skin cells in place, without irritating the skin. If you are going to use an exfoliating brush or loofah, use it gently and stop using it if you start to notice it is causing hyperpigmentation.

    I use epilator, and I started using Cerave Sa smoothing cream after I read it's good for strawberry legs. Been using it after shower and before bed for a month now, and I've noticed my legs have become smoother and softer, but It didn't get rid of the red marks and those small black dots. I'll stop using it though once I'm out of it, the texture is too thick and it doesn't absorb well into the skin. Think I'll just start washing my legs with salicylic acid body wash or my regular Oliva bar soap, exfoliate with sugar scrub 1-2 weeks as usual and moisturize with Aveeno Skin Relief Moisturizing Lotion.

      Hi Harman, Sure.
      There are different options but in general in the morning use an exfoliating cleanser and/or an exfoliating body cream (or lotion). Use suncreen. In the evening, use a retinoid.
      For example:
      *AM*
      -CeraVe SA Smoothing Cleanser OR Touch KP Exfoliating body wash
      (you can swap out either of the above for Necessaire: The Body Exfoliator 1-2 times a week if you wish to)
      -CeraVe SA Smoothing cream
      -Sunscreen
      *PM*
      CeraVe resurfacing retinol serum OR Paula's choice 1% retinol treatment
      (starting 2-3 times a week and building up slowly)
      Hope this helps!!
