    The ending is genius. Ian's journey is about realizing his brother's significance in his life but Barley's journey is about making up for the biggest regret of his life. So Barley needed to see his dad one last time but Ian didn't. And they found a way to do both.

    Maybe my most favorite part of the movie was how in the end - where Barley was about to meet their dad and Ian was trapped in a pit of boulders - we were there with Ian, also trapped in a pit of boulders and can only see their dad from a gap in the rocks. It's like the movie put us through Ian's perspective the whole time. We've never seen Wilden except in pictures, don't know anything about him except for the things we hear from people, and well, we've never met him. It's like we go through everything feeling the same as Ian. Even in the end where everything is resolved, we also end up understanding Barley more.

    My favorite scene was definitely the invisible bridge scene.
    SPOILERS:
    When Barley was holding onto Ian’s rope and it fell off, and he started tearing up, but still encouraging Ian to keep going hit me in several different directions. It’s probably the scene where I felt three different emotions at once; it was scary cus Ian’s literally right over a giant hole, it was funny cus of Barleys reaction, but it was sweet because Barley was still believing in Ian.

    • @cicidiaries

      Cindi that really hit me because my mom saw her grandparents as they were dying and it really messed her up. And that lead to her not letting my dad bring me to see my grandpa when he was dying. That happened when I was really young and it was one of the reasons they got divorced.

    Barley's actually my favorite character. I love how no one around him takes him seriously, but he was the one who was right all along. Honestly, I think he's supposed to represent millennials and how we're not taken seriously by the world around us despite the fact we're the generation making the changes to protect our planet. Barley is immersed in nerd culture, which is something that became mainstream in our generation and he's often trying to protect magical landmarks, in a way that mimics how environmentalists do so today. He may seem guide-less, but he actually knows more than Ian what he wants to do with his life and that's to protect magic. He's more than comedic relief and there's so much more to his character than meets the eye. I'm sure there will be some that think I'm looking too deep into this, but this is Pixar. They're known for having depth in their films, and I wouldn't put it past them to do this purposely.

    I really like the journey Ian goes through in this movie, cause at the start of it he’s just like all the other people of today, living in the modern day style and relishing in the ways of modern day society, and in the beginning of the movie he thinks that Barley’s in depth knowledge and love for magic is stupid, but over the course of the movie he realizes just how great and useful magic can be, and ultimately it represents a modern generation kid learning the value of something old

Pixar had not disappointed, even when everyone expected them to. After so many sequels and prequels, I was surprised to see such an original movies that still held some of Pixar's 'pa-zaz' to it. Would recommend, beautiful story with beautiful animation, and the main characters are very enjoyable (albeit somewhat underdeveloped) 13/10

Once his dad disappears 45 seconds later, Chris takes TEN GOD DAMN SECONDS TO COME SAVE HIM. So if Chris had gone down there right as he became conscious. *THEY BOTH WOULD’VE HAD THOSE 45 SECONDS*

I had my doubts when I 1st heard about this movie, then the reviews came in and I got mixed reviews from it but... Pixar truly still does have it's magic touch with original content. I will admit there were parts where it was kinda awkward, but the 2nd half of the movie really made up for it all. I give it an 8.5/10, a must-see movie, watch it during these dark times 😁

  • @renmakesthings8106
    @renmakesthings8106 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I feel like the thing that would have made this movie so much better is if they just put more effort into the world building. Like this is a society with 3inch pixies and 1000 pound centaurs and everything is made the same as our human world and they hand wave how everyone else interacts with this world. Like both the pixies and the mantacore have wings but it’s only magic if the pixies use it? And how is it harder for them to use wings versus learn how to drive a human size motor bike and communicate well enough to actually use it? Also they made dragons both dog sized pet and a fearsome monster and the logistics of having a dragon are some how the same as a dog? And how is running as a centaur so much harder than squeezing a body that’s twice the length/height as a human into a humans sized car that we can barely fit in sometimes? And the trolls are just blue people with pointy ears, an excuse for a fun design really. And I gotta be honest our world is obsessed with the past so I found the fact that monuments were regularly torn down kinda odd. Plus I have serious doubts that everyone would just give up magic, like yeah light bulbs are cool and all but magic can make you shrink and grow things and make you fly (Without wings)?! Like sure some people but I’m willing to be there’d be a dedicated group of people who learn magic or schools for magic. Basic magic as a standard or something. I’m not saying they had to think of everything I just wish they put in more effort.

    One thing I thought was super refreshing was how Barley was never jealous of Ian at any point in the film. As the magic and legend nerd, Barley has every right to be upset that he wasn’t blessed with magical capabilities and his brother was, but the fact that he was completely and wholeheartedly supportive of him despite this only drove home how great of a brother/father figure he was to Ian.
