Don't know why people are being so disrespectful. Layne is gone, and the other guys want to carry on playing. This is a really respectful and technically amazing performance by Duvall.
I was broken hearted when Layne died, then William joined and was not happy. After this rendition...Mr. Duval, you are carrying the torch...and made us AIC fans so incredibly proud, and consider you a true member!
We were all devastated when Layne passed, it was no needless. It was no easy decision to either end the band permanently or take a break and resume with another vocalist. I’m glad they resumed the band.
I saw this lineup live and they were great. It's no use pining for Layne anymore. He's gone, sadly. It was still great to hear these songs played by great musicians.

It's a shame Lane Staley died, but seriously, you have to admit that William Duval did great on this one...
This is a DARK song. Layne was dark - Duvall should be fronting a glam band. He has a great voice - but it doesn't fit the tunes.....

I agree with you, but how does it change the fact that Will sang incredibly well on this one? I certainly prefer Layne over Will, but I also liked this version very much :)
Great cover. That's all IMHO. It does't have the same emotion like it does just listening to the both of them back to back. The Mtv unplugged version of Rooster was unreal. How Layne has that growl in his voice and his damn vocal range put him in the top 10 even maybe top 5 greatest front men of all time.
Damn. haven't really been a fan of Alice in Chains since the passing of Layne but the new vocalist really did a fantastic job on this one. Will have to give them another chance.
mountaingoat1003 the post Layne stuff turned out surprisingly well because Jerry has always been the genius behind AiC, he’s the one who wrote the large majority of the music and half the lyrics when Layne was alive. Layne was amazing one of the best singers ever but he gets too much credit for AiC from a lot of fans, Jerry was and is the mastermind. Jerry is an all time great songwriter and even when Layne was alive wrote a bunch of lyrics to some of their most famous songs
i mean he isn't tryin to replace layne, hes a fucking bad ass singer in his own right though. and he looks cooler than layne playing guitar. a lot better at it too.alice is still doing a lot of high quality work.
This song is proof that Alice in Chains was always bigger than just Layne or Jerry or any individual member of the band. The music is bigger than all of them and even if they lose a member, the music will never die. I listen to this and I hear something greater than any one person. Alice in Chains forever.
Couldn't have been more well said. They sound amazing. Of course Layne would be great to still have but his spirit is still in the band. That's what matters
Wow, at 4:27 i could have sworn that was the spirit of Layne kickin' out that scream, sounded just like him. Impressive! nobody can EVER replace him, but the soul remains!
honestly, this guy does a great job...it's always gonna be an impossible task to fill the shoes of such an iconic, unique vocalist and a lot of the time it doesn't work out but this guy just does it with his own personality and style...he doesn't try to be layne and I think that's a major part of what makes it work so well for me
For all the loss and pain this band went through, I'm really glad they found Duvall. Every interview I've seen or read of him, he seems like a humble and good guy. He's the guy this band deserves and he does not disappoint. This sounds incredible.
The remaining band members decided that they wanted to continue AIC, even though Layne had passed. That is their decision, and nobody else can talk shit about that decision. They chose Duvall, and honestly, Duvall does an outstanding job.
Carlos Santino We are all sad bro. It's a fucking tragedy... You'd expect that we would all forget about it after so many years... I fucking miss 90's...
William Duval, from the little I have heard is a versatile, accomplished singer, hope he sticks around for the duration! Lane Staley, your songs are in good hands brother
Dude I'm late to the party but it's funny that there are still people hating on William because he's not Layne. Or he's a try hard to impersonate Layne. William Duvall is William Duvall he has his own style he doesn't try to replace Layne. There are 14+ years since he is in Alice in Chains and everything turned up great. William is a great singer. Layne was a great singer and people should just let him rest in peace. He is singing in heaven now.
no one can replace layne but william has proven himself worthy to be on this band. he is giving these old songs a modern vocal sound while keeping that dark, haunting flavor that we love about AIC
Hes a bad ass singer in his own right!! With lots of soul!! Hes bringing in alot to the band!!! Replacing a lead vocalist who his legendary is almost impossible. But Alice in Chains has done it. Very few have like ACDC. But I think he is amazing and brings a whole new sound to the group.
Hearing Alice in Chains with William Duvall instead of Layne is kind of like seeing your mom with a new boyfriend after she divorced your dad (or he died). You don't like him at first, but once you realize he's cool you start to come around.
Saw them live in Regina, 2013. I had never even really heard of Alice in Chains a few months before, and they proved to put on a great performance! Some of their new stuff kicks ass too, but this song never fails to give me chills.
i give this dude a lot of credit....tryin to fill shoes of a voice like Layne is next to impossible....but damned if this dude didnt do about as good a job as you can possibly do. its good to see Alice live again, id pay to go see them with this dude, no question.
Can't wait to see these guys July 22nd. Grateful to see Duvall carrying on the legacy. Favorite band of all time. Got me through 6 years of some heavy heroin addiction
As a fan of a band, I should accept their personnel changes, respect their choices, and always support them, not to mention that is an irresistible reason.
Couldn’t have picked a better replacement for Layne. We all love Layne tremendously. I feel like William protects the integrity of Layne’s work. He does an amazing job.
This is the first time I"m hearing the new guy sing. Even though he's not very new. Never got into Alice in Chains even when the original guy was alive. But I have to admit, this guy sounds incredible. Absolutely amazing....
Jerry Cantrell never let's me down ,,I swear to god he killed this ,,I cried watching this vid, wat a great performance,,brought back so many memories !!!
I'd love to hear him sing more stuff on their next album... His range is unreal, and I think he is being wasted just harmonizing all the time... don't get me wrong, I like the last two albums, but man, what he can do when he really turns it loose...
Can you replace a band member? Yes.
Can you replace what they brought to the table? No.
Can you make a different impact in their place? Absolutely.
William Duvall is an absolute monster. His vocal performance here is ridiculously brilliant
Don't know why people are being so disrespectful. Layne is gone, and the other guys want to carry on playing. This is a really respectful and technically amazing performance by Duvall.
Shane Walsh the guy they got is pretty good,,,Trump ruined my pipes;)))
Because they are immature!
Steven Holt What does trump have to do with this? I’m just curious cuz it came out of nowhere
Runs in the family... hehehe
Not gonna lie and not trying be a braggart, but I sound more like Layne than Duvall does.

I call it AIC chapter 2
Cheers, but no one was asking your permission. Gimp.
Duval's vocals are fantastic, especially his falsetto. Layne's sadly gone, but Duval is a phenomenal singer
Just curious what is a falsetto?
@@funtimes3652 it's that really high voice thing, ie what the Bee Gees do
Man I really like this xD... Duvall is fuckin awesome.. All the negaitivity is getting as old as the 90s.

Richard Koning Duvall hasn't replaced him. He is simply passing Layne's torch into this generation. Furthering Layne's legacy.

DUVALL IS AWESOME!!! Excellent job with Rooster.
this is AIC part 2.. Duvall plays rhytmh guitar and gives space to Jerry to play parts that he havent played before.. whole new experience!
Even though Layne is irreplaceable, William does a fantastic job at vocals. :)
HairMetalBrony1016 Couldn't agree more. He has helped Staley's legacy continue into the next millennium.

Very few singers in the world can pull this type of song. Much respect and thank you..
I’m convinced that Jerry Cantrell sold his soul to the devil in return of perfect guitar tone.
The high-pitched singing in the intro gives me chills
He's not Layne! But so much soul in William's voice! he adds a new spin and spectrum on these great tunes!
The remaining band members decided that they wanted to continue AIC, even though Layne had passed. That is their decision, and nobody else can talk shit about that decision. They chose Duvall, and honestly, Duvall does an outstanding job.
People call Duval the new guy, but he's been in the band longer then Layne was.
Mas o Layne é o principal vocalista e sempre vai ser. O resto são apenas vocalistas substitutos
and with the next record he will officially have more AIC LPs under the belt than Layne ever did.
Man starting from duvall to cantrell jesus this is awesome
I literally cried when I was there listening to this because lane Stanley and Scott Weiland was the real motherfuckin deal of grunge
