    Agree on all fronts. Rims should be factory taped. In every scenario, they should be taped. Odd. The tape job on Elites is 👌
    Also about the captive straight pull spoke redundancy, since i started banging on about that in every vid im finally starting to see the change! 😅

    • @PatrickLino
      @PatrickLino  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      According to our good buddy Joe Panda a lot of companies are foregoing spare spokes. Besides being more cost effective (for the company), the logic is if you have a bad crash you most likely will require more than the 2-4 spokes supplied anyway.

    • @PatrickLino
      @PatrickLino  ปีที่แล้ว

      @gbtidi Yes....I actually asked Peak Torque to chime on that topic.

  • @PatrickLino
    @PatrickLino  ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I forgot to mention: The bearings are ceramic. Magene does include a set of plugs/grommets to cover each individual spoke hole. This a nice touch. However, and again, this and the tubeless rim tape should have been installed from the factory.

    • @daswimmer4004
      @daswimmer4004 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Patrick, love your reviews! As for the rim tape, I applaud Magene for not installing it as many ppl will use the plugs to cover the spoke holes (for clincher use) instead of the tape. This way they don't have to remove it. They can gift it to a friend or use it in the future should they decide to go tubeless.

    • @PatrickLino
      @PatrickLino  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@daswimmer4004 that is a great point. Plus, using plugs makes mounting tires easier than with tubeless tape.

    I'd love to see a video on ProX wheels, specifically their higher end models with all components made by them i.e. not using DT Swiss hubs. I'm planning to purchase a set of the "ultralight" carbon spoked wheels with the C66DB hubs myself. Only "drawback" seems to be that the deepest rim is only 55mm currently. They have also recently released some carbon spoked wheels with wavy rims too, like Zipp NSWs, might be interesting to see a video on those instead of the typical rims. They are really affordable, not sure how the quality will be. Hambini made a video a few months ago about one of their lower end models and had very good feedback despite the price.

    Like the weight. Not sure about carbon spokes on the kind of roads (pot holes) we have in the Caribbean. Would love to see you review some chinese carbon cranksets (eg. ELILEE Carbon Fibre Crank). There is some weight saving there and better power transfer (we know you like stiff) vs aluminum. Still waiting for your review of the Chinese ospw (think it was og-evkin)

    I will check this one out. The missing rim tape is a bit foolish; however, must brands from the West do not include spare spokes. They may throw in break pads or tubeless valves. I am looking for some modern wheels with 21 to 23 internal and these may just fit the bill.

    If nothing else having no spare spokes can put potential customers off. So for a few extra dollars they need it to secure orders. I recieved a set of alloy gravel wheels today for £300 gbp and even they had Tubeless tape fitted, spare spokes and valves.

    • @PatrickLino

  • @BrianMcDonald
    @BrianMcDonald ปีที่แล้ว

    I was considering these wheels since I think they look nice and I like the wider width for the same versatility factor you mentioned, but in addition to the missing spare spokes and no rim and tape bullet points, they weren't (and still aren't as far as I know) offering any kind of promo code which puts these wheels in a higher price point than their competitors while not necessarily offering a justification of the extra money in my opinion.

    • @PatrickLino
      @PatrickLino  ปีที่แล้ว

      I still have yet to actually ride and test the wheels, but the 23mm int/ 30mm ext already makes these more versatile than both the latest Hypers and Elite Drive, while offering a DT-Swiss-like hub. Even my dedicated gravel wheels only have a 22mm internal width.

      Light Bicycle, WheelsFar, and a few others custom wheel building brands - They are all more or less the same in terms of Chinese brands. Same city (Xiamen) and have access to all of the same spokes and hubs.
