    Cheers for having my back mate! 😜 Still, I blame myself for skimping out on the tape.
    Great work as always!

      Seeing you guys struggling with rim tape makes me glad my last 4 wheelsets dont have holes. Gravel, TT, track and road wheels from Yoeleo and Ican with unperforated inner walls FTW

    I'm using the 508 Ultra with Exar TPU. I've already logged more than 2000 kms on them, and they're still as good as new.

    I personally think needing a tire lever to put on the tire is a good thing. If I can one handed put a tire on and off it scares me, I don’t need the stress of worrying about a tire blowing off.

    As a bike shop person, I have learned to trust the EU tire size nomenclature (622) more than the standard French nomenclature (700c). Not sure why Conti had 25mm on the box, but it was incorrect.

    Bought myself a couple of not-so-cheap Fillmore tubeless valves. Makes tubeless tire installation without a compressor or booster bumper a lot easier. Also, not clogged up sealant.

    Been using these wheels for quite a bit, very responsive and comfortable. Paired with gp5k s tr 28mm

    The wheels look like they hold up nice! The one thing that really scares me is the radially laced rear wheel. As a heavier rider that's always pretty hard on the brakes, I don't know if I would trust that configuration. Only time will tell i suppose.

    Don't have Magene wheels, but I've been impressed with the quality of the Magene products I do have (P505 power meter, a headlight, and an armband optical HRM) enough that I'd certainly consider a pair of their wheels should I ever need to get a new set of carbon wheels for my road bike. I also really like GP5000s, but they are just so darned hard to mount on the wheels that I have that I decided not to get another pair when I replaced my tires recently - went with Vittoria Corsa Controls instead which were immensely easier to get on (I'm running TPU tubes, not tubeless).

    I can confirm, in my experience, the TT TR are overall 1 mm wider than the S TR. I am also convinced Continental simply added a hookless bead to the previous GP5k clincher (the one with the German flag which also happens to be lighter than the new clinchers) and branded them TT TR.

    Thanks for another great product review. Very timely too, as I'm on the hunt for a new set. Presently, leaning towards Hyper Ultras, but the Magene's are worth a second look, especially given their lighter weight.
    Incidentally, I think you may be due for a review on cycling knicks. Yours looked a little Fred Bare in that full sun

    As an FYI, I've researched rim tape thoroughly in conjunction with modern sealants. As a simple rule, if the rim tape has any printed branding on it, it's a sure sign it is poor quality. You want to use tensilized polypropylene which is what Stans is (this is just rebranded Tesa 4289 packing tape). If you're lucky you can source a bigger roll much cheaper online than the name brand stuff. The right tape is thicker, more tear proof and hold up well against modern sealants such as Silca, that use carbon shavings that are abrasive and will wear its way through any other type of rim tape resulting in leaking.

    ERTRO 28-622 means the tires are 28mm high from the rim. The width depends on the rim.

    I believe the patent has run out on the DT Swiss ratchet system so it's being copied a lot. I wonder if anybody has ever used a heat gun to help with tyre mounting?

    Schwalbe has some funny tire sizes written on their tires too. I have a set of Marathon Plus tires, and printed on the side is 37-622. 2 inched to the right it also says 700c x 35. About 10 inches to the left, those two sized are again on the side of the tire but are actually molded as raised lettering! They committed to those two sizes! So which is it?? LOL

    Hand mountable on Fulcrum speed, don’t need rim tape. Pump up with track pump.

    Been seeing hook versus hookless rims being mentioned a lot in cycling videos the last month or so. what is the difference? For like my 10-year-old set of Clincher wheels are those hooked rims?

  • @Horstelin
    @Horstelin ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Judging by the 31mm wide tire on a 30mm wide rim you would've actually better got the 25mm version.

    • @veganpotterthevegan
      @veganpotterthevegan ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd rather ride 30s stretching to 33-34 than 25s. These aren't terribly aero wheels anyway. May as well get the extra cush

    • @Horstelin
      @Horstelin ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@veganpottertheveganThey have a >2:1 ratio of width to depth (including tire), I would say they are quite aero. Look up hambinis aero testing, there are 60mm wheels slower/just as fast as 45mm wheels. Putting a tire 2-3mm wider at every side is gonna ruin you aero performance since it will lead to stalls at the edge of the tire. If you don't care about aero, just weight you might as well get a aluminimum wheelset. You can easily reach the same weight for less cash.

    Had 2sets of gp5000str, fast but paper thin and fragile. Got gp5000astr on my wheels but it is winter! xD So the Elite Direto is getting hammered.

    Any concerns on losing aero benefits with the tires being wider than the rim widths?

    • @gaza4543
      @gaza4543 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Any aero benefits “lost” would be vastly over shadowed by the rolling efficiency of the tyres tbh there aren’t many rims that can actually support 28c tyres correctly in regard to the outside width. These tyers are still designed around 19mm ID rims, new rims are on average 23mm nowerdays and you’re now seeing 25s starting to crop up, zip, reserve ,enve. 28s ballon to 30-33 on these rims, depending on brand

    @gplama note you said you are building these up with 12 speed, all the ones I've seen are 11 speed shimano. I have not had 12 speed before, does 12 speed cassette fit on 11 speed freehub? Thanks

      To be honest, I couldn’t tell you the ride feel difference between these and the 454 NSW I’ve been rolling on for a while. I’d attribute any feeling of speed to the GP5K TT tyres and the pressures chosen.

      Reserve wheels have no weight limits and a proper lifetime warranty. Str versions in 28 come up at 32mm wide on there 25mm ID rims and is there control tyre for there areo testing. Highly underrated wheel brand.
