I got EA WRC as a birthday gift for myself. Unfortunately, so many things are locked behind a paywall and the career mode has felt like nothing more but a calendar manager, where you're required to score certain points in different championship events, but the events have scheduling conflicts, forcing you to skip races and thus make the required points scoring harder to achieve. Not to mention that the performance issues like screen tearing still exist in the PS5 despite the updates that have resulted in a gargantuan game data. I'm seriously thinking of getting Generations, which is the title I've skipped and trade in EAWRC.
A few reviews I've seen now say. "you have to have a steering wheel" to play this game but I also see a lot of comments and videos (this one) that complain about things wrong with the game that wouldn't exist if they were just using a controller. This should be mentioned in the video imo.
Been playing for weeks on an Xbox One S. Every few hours it might get stuck between loading screens, but it's rare and runs and looks fine as far as gameplay. I actually prefer some of the visuals to DR2.0 even on a One S. I don't like the controls and car response quite as much as DR2.0 (WRCG doesn't feel as progressive with inputs vs DR on gamepad, especially throttle), the damage model isn't as good, but I haven't gone back to DR since I got WRCG either so it's obviously still pretty fun to play. The variety of stages is better than DR. Ideally, DR driving physics, the expanded classic cars DR has, with all the licensed locations and new Rally 1 and 2 cars would be absolutely ideal in my eyes. Maybe Codemasters will do that, although the way they've removed classic cars from the F1 games, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a DR version of past WRC games where the focus is on the current drivers and cars vs classic content, is reality. I've been going back to DR for years, as much fun as I'm having with WRCG, it will likely fall in the same category.
I don’t know if you answer questions, but does the driver turn the steering wheel more than 90 degrees in cockpit view? It’s always been a small annoyance for me.
VR is still far too niche for developers to spend more time on it, unless it can be implemented very easily. I have a Quest 3, but have no issues playing racing games in 2D. Flight sims on the other hand...
Got my copy on Thursday morning, played it most the day. Got up Friday and my old g920 wouldn't work on generations. Xbox series s.. I've heard of these issues on other versions. Hoping they make a fix.....
i will be pickung this game up right away tomorrow i just hope the game isn't to bad with a logitech g29 steering wheel. also really curious what codeys is gonna do with the license better engine sounds for sure.....
I think codemasters will do dirt rally 3 with wrc official cars in and with ea money will proper make a stellar rally game again like Colin mcrae games of old

They will top it due to lots more refined aspects including accurate car models and audio just to name two examples. When it comes to locations/countries, it'll have all the locations featured in the 2023 World Rally Championship. It has always been this way ever since a game developer acquired the WRC license.
As long there is no tyre management like ACC it is no real rally simulator in my opinion. Kunos with the WRC licence would be awesome! Dreaming dreaming dreaming
In the pre-release version we had combined with our hardware and monitor, we couldn't get it higher than 60hz. But the game still runs smooth enough to still be really enjoyable.
Great review but I think I'll pass on this one until it's on sale. I love a good career mode but the reason I gave up on WRC 9 was just how bogged down the gameplay got with hiring weather forecasters or physios. I felt like I spent more time managing the overhead of the team than I did driving and it just became tedious. No idea why game developers insist on trying to game-ify the running of an entire company in a game based around driving. 🤔
@@Thisonegoestoeleven666 Well yes, I could but I actually like the career progression as a driver from one season to another and through the car classes. I just don't care to micro manage human resources for a business when I'd rather be driving. 🙂
@@infoxicated That progression also happens in seasons mode. You start with the lower car class. It's basically the same as career mode but without all the management and dumb objectives etc.
Sound and co-driver are definitely still weak, all co-drivers sound like a sunday stroll rather than a hectic rally... Dirt is the same. RBR with mods still wins by far.
I was really hoping for this game to be great but after watching this review it does not seem like so. It's going to be a while before we get a proper rally sim, I highly doubt EA will make anything good and Kylotonn still have a lot of catching up to do. RBR is also getting old and is severely limited in terms of features like night stages and tyre management. If only we have a dedicated company like Kunos making rally simulators.
Kunos has tarmac sorted yes, but developing a game where the physics have to handle both tarmac and gravel is whole different beast. Sure they might pull it off if they had many years to develop it. I think the license is in very good hands with the DiRT Rally development team.

Graphics was a bummer compared to Dirt rally 2.0.

You can use controller and still thoroughly enjoy it, I hope that they patch the game to be more compatible with wheels and eliminate the issues.

I think it will, the game seems aimed for pad users. I found a good workaround (not ideal) was to use 260 degrees of rotation on my t300

Dirt4 and dirt rally 2.0 are pretty solid games. Havent try any wrc games yet, but i gonna jump to this one wrc generations.

As it stands, pre-release, no 120Hz - it is, however, a fun game with way more stages that DR2, plus it's stable on our hardware :)

Your forgetting its not ea its codemasters who made the dirt games and do rally games really good

WRC10 stopped pushing updates 3 months after it released. I have no trust in this company.
On a recent steam discussion they said they plan to improve the quality of life in the future.. Yeah, I'm not convinced either
This is their last WRC so I think they will treat this pretty different to keep it alive.
