- Joining up the tracks was a long awaited milestone at Chadwick Model Railway. The Big track link up is here at last but just how difficult was it, in this last leg of building the connection of a model railway.

Well I'd call that a bit of a milestone! What a fantastic achievement to see the continuous running. Well done Charlie - I love it.
Yes it was certainly a key moment in the layout’s development. However, let’s not loose sight of your contribution.
Regards Charlie
Oh God. Wife just got back she said " You got him on again then" lol
Tread carefully boombox! Regards Charlie
A great achievement and yes, I would agree, time for a bit of a break and to simply "play trains". Excellent progress and great to see it all coming together after so much effort. Another down to earth and natural presentation to boot. My best Charlie. Nige
That’s very kind of you to say so Nige.
Regards Charlie
I ought to just "play trains" a little more then I do at the moment. Otherwise, I just have a lot of money invested in models that don't got used! .
Congratulations on completing the helices! It deserves something akin to a "Golden Spike" ceremony!
You make a good point Robin , I shall try to think up some kind of Momento for the occasion. Regards Charlie
I was thinking just that - what an achievement! Hip, hip, hurrah!
“Jigsaw is my Weapon of choice in this war”. Yet another cunning plan, Baldrick? I really do enjoy your little side jokes, Charlie.
How do you like to keep folks cheerful Mike. Regards Charlie
It was great to see the link up and two impressive trains running all round the layout. I guess you are feeling very satisfied!
I can’t deny Steve, I did have a big smile and a sigh of relief.
Regards Charlie.
What Chadwick means to me. In recent months I have had a lot trouble with a neighbour and it's not been nice. Chadwick gives me that escape from all this trouble. Hopefully now the person being evicted and normality will return . So thank you Charlie for all the videos
I’m so pleased to hear that your life should be improving boombox. Stay tuned, regards Charlie
@@ChadwickModelRailway trains are easy to control than people
Great achievement Charlie. Feels like ‘the end of the beginning’ but then you reeled off all the future features still to be added…. Meanwhile, enjoy ‘playing trains’ - you’ve definitely deserved it.
Thanks Will, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the video and at last we have trains running in both directions. Regards Charlie
Congratulations Charlie on completing the main circuits, I've watched your channel for a long time and it's nice to see you get to this stage. I look forward to your next stage in developing the layout.
Thanks Simon, I was with help and support from folks like you, that make it all possible. I remain ever grateful, regards Charlie
Charlie your a legend
But only a very small one Tez. Regards Charlie
@@ChadwickModelRailway 🤣 your so funny
Chadwick Addict. I really am addicted to this channel. I wait all day for this . My wife will have nothing to do with Chadwick she says it has fuel my hobby and encourage me to spend our spare cash. Well basically I never noticed the difference when she comes back from hairdresser so I say " please sir more track" Great video will watch many many times and loud!!! When she gets back from Chinese shop.
It’s great that you enjoy my videos but wives do need love too!
@@ChadwickModelRailway You ain't seen my one Charlie
Great video as usual Charlie. Indeed a milestone when you can finally connect it all together and run continuously. Lee's planning paid off for you, well done Lee! Maybe a golden spike somewhere?
Thanks Mike, indeed it is a massive milestone and it’s been a long journey.
It’s great to have such an enthusiastic following to help me on this journey.
Regards Charlie
I agree on the golden spike. I use one pair of older brass style fishplates somewhere on the layout, and there's a prize for anyone who spots them.
Every time you say "I have a cunning plan" I expect Blackadder or Baldrick coming into view... :)
Such classic linesOscar.
Super! Love your humorous comments. Very well done. You make this believable.
Thanks John, i’m so pleased that you could join me on my model railway journey. Regards Charlie
Reward for effort! A pleasure to see....
Thanks buddy, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it. Regards Charlie
WoT no Champagne ? I'd certainly crack open a bottle or two of bubbly if I'd achieved such a major goal :) Congratulation Charlie, Well done !
Thanks Dave,, I’m so pleased you could join me on this journey. Regards Charlie
Seeing you on your back under the upper level, I thought what you really need now is for someone to bring you a blanket, a pillow and a cup of tea
And perhaps a large scotch at the end of the day!
@@ChadwickModelRailway Your idea is a much better idea than my cup of tea. I do like a good single malt Scotch. I was introduced to it as 26 year old by my Scottish father-in-law. Not the only great contribution to my life but right up there in teh top 5!
And after you've wriggled and squeezed under the baseboard, making sure every tool youmight possibly need is readily to hand, you remember you're wearing the wrong glasses.
It happens to the best of us Andy, and I’m sure that includes you. Regards Charlie
@@ChadwickModelRailway experience shows!
Great progress .You must have a wonderful sense of satisfaction . Enjoy playing trains ,grab a chair pour a large whisky and watch the trains go by. You deserve it .
Thanks David, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed my milestone video. Regards Charlie
Hi Charlie
Amazing.
I know it isn't but you make it look easy. Such a matter of fact approach to success and problems. Relax and play trains. Give those joints a rest!
Thanks again
Howard
Thanks Howard, I must confess I am aching after this one! Regards Charlie
@@ChadwickModelRailway And thank you for showing us you're human and don't always get things right first time! That gives us all hope. 🙂
Well that’s quite a milestone then Charlie, at last you can run trains continuously so well done, great work. Oh and by the way, I’m thinking of calling you Baldrick going forward 🤣
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Bryan.
However, I think
Chadwick Goes Fourth,
might be a better title.
Regards Charlie
I have a cunning plan. 👍🤣🤣
I had to chuckle when you said "I have a cunning plan" a phrase from a well known tv character. Layout looking great, well done.
So we’re both black adder enthusiasts! Regards Charlie
Well, I think that is superbly done - carpentry and all. Real skill.
Thanks Alex, that’s very kind of you to say so mate. Regards Charlie
After my request for more running trains in your videos, you have really treated me to fabulous moving trains. I have loved it, and I hope you are as thrilled as me to see your passenger trains loving the track after such a long and careful building journey? I feel that I have shared it with you. I always look forward to Friday for your video, and get disappointed when it is the 'wrong week'.
Best wishes
Michael
Thanks Michael, what a kind thing to say. Hopefully you’ll enjoy the next video just as much. Regards Charlie
What a huge achievement Charlie! Really well done on something that we have all been cheering you on for, for some time. Brilliant stuff... Sit back and watch them go round and round before moving onto the next job. Lovely...
What a heartwarming comment Mike.
Many thanks, Charlie
Thanks S of S.
Regards Charlie
Hi Charlie. When you were laying under the boards you looked very comfortable. Must have been very tempting to have had a little snooze!
I think I was more likely to have a heart attack! Regards Charlie
@@ChadwickModelRailway At first I thought, “That doesn’t look so bad”. Then I realised that my body is now at least 20 years older than my brain, and remembered that last time I tried to a simple bit of maintenance under the kitchen sink I ended up a) needing help to get out again, and b) visiting a physiotherapist.
I have to do exactly the same and lay on my back on a 1 metre wide shelf to be able to fit my point motors and install any wiring to my layout, which I do agree gets very uncomfortable after about 30 minutes. I FEEL YOUR PAIN.
At last JB, someone who shares my pain! Regards Charlie
Absolutely brilliant achievement
Thanks Howard, I’m so pleased that you could join in my celebration. Regards Charlie
Congratulations Charlie - that's an impressive milestone in your construction - well done!
Thanks DF. I’m pleased that you could join me on my journey. Regards Charlie
Brilliant Charlie, I've got to admit I had my fingers crossed on the first run. Frank
Me too Frank, regards Charlie
I do love the scenery and it reminds me of a hot summer morning. Love it l💕💕💕💕
Thanks boombox, these things are easier than you think. Regards Charlie

Outstanding work Charlie, brilliant achievment! Kudos to Lee as well for making AnyRail sing so much better than I can! 😆
Thanks buddy, it was a real struggle this time, but well worth the effort.

I feel your discomfort Charlie! At 73 I am not as flexible as I used to be and getting up/down from the floor is somewhat comical 😁
I agree Derek, sadly age and mobility is something we can’t seem to avoid. Regards Charlie
Great to see a full circuit - well done Charlie.

Thanks Peter, at last I reached a substantial milestone. Regards Charlie
More of a Goldern Glue finish instead of a Goldern spike one, but the track is laid and it runs. So well done charlie. There is still a long way to go but you will have trains running while you are doing so and that will spur you on. Martin, (Thailand) 🧑🔧👨🔧👩🔧
I think you’re right Martin, having the trains are running is so much more satisfying than dreaming! Regards Charlie
Absolutely phenomenal, I've loved watching your progress
Thanks Josh, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it and it’s great to have you on board mate. Regards Charlie
Hi Charlie, fantastic video as usual. To make your life easier, when you cut your baseboards, clamp a batton (straight piece of wood) on so you can keep your circular saw held against it as you saw, you then don’t have to concentrate on keeping a straight line, the wood guides your saw for you. Just get the offset correct. You can then make the cut a bit quicker. It’s all looking rather good though. Such fun to watch
A great tip, and very much appreciated. I need to improve my carpentry skills, regards Charlie
Thanks Charlie. That was a great instructive video. It runs beautifully . Steve
Thanks Steve, I’m so pleased that you enjoy my railway journey. Regards Charlie
I am really like how the layout coming on. While making notes my wife burst into the room and said you been on all this for hours. She said so it's Chadwick or Me. So I see you all in 2 weeks time then.
I’m on the point of believing you now boombox! Regards Charlie
@@ChadwickModelRailway The wife has gone to her mother's for a week or 2. Since she been gone her sowing machine corner looking a great place to put a Helix.

Previously you had a DUL board/track arrangement... DUL: Duck Under Layout
4:18 Teddy bear and soft music and then your wife enters and hears you snoring... good thing you don't have spiders under there...
Wonderful to see your trains have run to come full circle or full helix...
Fortifying no longer having a DUL layout... save your knees. Congratulations, Charlie!

P.S. Your efforts continue to inspire my thoughts to get my trains running. Cheers!

Hi there Charlie, you've got something running, so, as they say, now the hard work begins!
I’m not sure I’m gonna agree with you on that one.
Regards Charlie
@@ChadwickModelRailway Seriously though, the level of build construction looks fantastic. I know what the feeling is like when you reach a milestone in the construction of a layout, for me, it's taken 12 years of building to reach the point where it runs without a problem! Famous last words!
You should have had a Golden Spike ceremony for the connection of your main line Charlie. Awesome job
I’m working on golden fishplates!
I sent the wide/wife out for Chinese which is only 250 miles away. So having checked I realise there a restaurant closer so while she off for a few hours I have myself a Indian & a Charlie. Cheers 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺

Great video with your usual gentle humour. I'm so pleased that I'm not the only one who changes his mind when work is underway! It's so lucky you can come up with several cunning plans, eh? They seem to evade me... I class myself as a wood butcher, an expert in designer firewood...
Rest assured John, I have converted decent timber into kindling!

You must be well chuffed and exhausted, that was a huge effort.
I look forward to more, and it will serve as a rocket to get my act together.
Well done.
I’m glad to be of service David. Regards Charlie
Charlie, I enjoy your narrative and all of your tips, my own O gauge layout has been idle for some 3 years because it is in our house in the USA and since Covid we have been in France. So Chadwick has kept me entertained, in France I have been busy with house renovations and that digital level that you use caught my eye - I use it all the time and it is great. So thanks for the tip. Best DR

"I suppose I ought to run a couple of trains, and see if it works. . . ." Charlie, you are a master of understatement! The point in time when you know you have completed the entire route; what an accomplishment! I know, for me, this is a great moment it time; and I was thrilled to watch your trains ply the rails! Great video Charlie, you provided me to solutions to problems on my own layout so I’m off to build. Thanks for the inspiration 🙏
That’s great news Tim, regards Charlie
Excellent - just great to see all the hard work coming together successfully - thank you Charlie.
Thanks David, but it’s Support from folks like you that make it all possible. Regards Charlie
Like yourself I use Anyrail, I designed the boards as well as the track, I printed out the boards to scale, I purchased ordinary 12 mm ply, marked it all out after jiggling around to give me minimum waste, and cut them out with a jig saw. I had 22 pieces of different shaped boards and when I came to put them together I found an 0.5 mm thickness variance and the boards had warped. I had to purchase 2 off 8 ft X 4 ft Marine ply boards and start all over again. So just be aware of what you buy. Another word of warning, Back in the late 80s I used Peco foam underlay which was developed to match the track and everything was fine for about 25 years, After which I found that the foam had turned to tar and the track dropped allowing the track pins to contact the rolling stock. I had to lift the whole 250 ft of track with the 48 points, and start all over again. I now use 4 mm cork. And I redesigned the layout.
Worthwhile lessons Sam, but sadly learned the hard ways. I had known about the pico underlay turning to dust but not tar? Regards Charlie
Great achievement Charlie It must be very satisfying to see a complete loop and trains running continuously in both directions. Enjoy “ playing trains” Looking forward to your further development projects👏 Cigar and a cool beer at the ready?

Circut complete. Great effort mate. Arthur
Just ready for a stiff drink Arthur. regards Charlie
Dear Charlie, not to discount your trial and error experience, but your AnyRail drawing also gives you a template, on which you could have measured the connecting board to the approximate widths, length and possible points for the M8 threads.
Humbly think the connecting board to the helix will interfere with the further construction of board 22 and the intricate track plan, you’ve planned for covering the east-end helix.
There is more pressing issue. How to build the upper reverse loop!
Regards Charlie
Charlie, It’s so satisfying to see trains running continuously. What a great and thorough job. You must chuffed.
So chuffed Gazza, to get the railway back on track, regards Charlie
