      @@timalan7406 There are similarities, but, no it isn't. That's like saying the new land cruiser is a Tundra because they both share the same frame. The transmission is different, all three differentials are different, the shocks and springs are different, drive shafts are different, there are way too many different parts. Yes this is Lexus's Range Rover competitor. I'll tell you why this vehicle exists. My wife wants a Range Rover to drive to work and take our son to school. My wife has the 2020 rx 350, I took my wife to test drive the new generation rx, she is like, “what is this all plastic thing? No wood, no leather dash, and the smoothness is also gone.” We kept the last gen RX instead traded in for a new one. Lexus has changed so much this generation, you will probably agree more to these two gentlemen more when you test drive the newer Lexus when it is time. I agree on the price. At 85K you start to look at the GLS/X7. Yes they’re targeting the off-road community, but again why have a Luxury trim with all these extra bits.
    It’s still a beautiful vehicle. People will buy this. This thing will be seen in suburbs for the next 25+ years.

    The Overtrail (NOT +) at ~$73k is the sweet spot in the lineup. Here in Southern California dealers are either marking up $10-13k or installing useless options that can’t be removed that add up to the same amount of mark up.
    Need to wait a year or two for the market to cool down and the markups
    go away.
    The Overtrail is better than the new LC 250 because the cargo area is larger since there’s no hybrid battery

    • @JCintheBCC
      @JCintheBCC 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This is 100% correct. The Overtrail gets the e-KDSS, which is an excellent system that tames the bodyroll they were complaining about (they discuss this at about 5:30 in the video). It also leans into the off-road direction where the body-on-frame and solid-axle actually help. The Luxury trim is fighting the architecture. Getting the new GX in anything but the Overtrail trim is a wild decision.

    Excellent review as usual. I think some of the trim choices on vehicles comes down to catering to people's impressions. Lets face it, a lot of folks buy cars just for their looks. Heck, I know of people who bought vehicles because they liked the color! One so-called "reviewer" referred to the smaller wheels on a vehicle as "being dorky", regardless of the fact that those wheels brought better fuel economy and a better ride, he would choose the bigger wheels just because they looked good. Some people are just gonna go for those big wheels regardless.

    Lexus has a lot of GX lovers in their home market, mostly in urban environments. Upon seeing the Overtrail marketing, Japanese auto journalists voiced their concerns over lost civility at the launch event. Lexus created the luxury trims with these customers in mind.

    As a GX550 owner i disagree this boxy beast can turn on a dime and its fast. It drives like a sedan for its size category. Yes there is body roll but that is what gives it the truck feel. It might not have all the bells and whistles as the OT trim but it can do some serious off road things.

    Thank you for saying the GX existence doesn't make sense. The G-wagon theory is really interesting, that makes so much sense. All of the influencers want g-wagons and Lexus wanted some of that market. When you see the 4runner, land cruiser, and GX, you would think the GX would be really luxurious and nice riding. The second owner nonsense you speak of… I am a “second owner” of a GX 460. In 2019 I bought a 2012 GX with 105k miles on it for only $18k. That was a lot less than a same year and mileage 4runner. I bought used intended to build it, as other people that have bought them used (cheep) have intended to do. I have since spent over $50k on it to turn it into a vehicle that is much better than yours in every way. If I had bought one new, then spent $50k on it, with over over $100k invested into it, I would probably be too hesitant to off road it.
      People have been buying them used because they are built to go hundreds of thousands of miles, perhaps more miles than an owner might put on it in their lifetime, and they are cheeper and better than a 4runner used. It was the smarter choice. A lot of these “poors” aren’t poor, just smarter with their money than you are.
