I’m the General Sales Manager for Lexus of Tucson in Arizona and have been for the last 21 years. During my time here NO new generation of any of our wonderful models has generated more excitement than the all new 2024 GX550. Many comments about the engine are based on the Toyota Tundra’s design which is configured differently for the Tundra than the GX. For those who say it’s too expensive you can get the Overtrail (not the Overtrail Plus) for $10K less and lose zero off road capabilities compared to the OT Plus. For those who doubt the off road capabilities all I can tell you is I’ve never traded for so many Range Rovers, new generation Broncos, Jeep Rubicons and Toyota 4Runners and Land Cruisers than I have currently. For those who don’t need this level of off road performance with 33” OEM tires etc you can spend significantly less with the Premium Pkg or the Premium Plus Pkg. There’s a Luxury trim level and a Luxury Plus for those who want it all. Point is with 6 different trim levels there’s something for EVERYONE. For my money the Overtrail (not the OT+) is the way to go! If money is no object and you like the glass roof panels etc etc than go for the Overtrail Plus. It’s a FABULOUS vehicle that young or old, male or female EVERYONE seems to love! Lastly there is a much more rugged roof rack than the one you’ve shown for loading kayaks, gear, an available roof top tent and a whole lot more. Those step rails you show pale in comparison to the available OEM Rock Rails unique to the Overtrail Trim levels. There’s an endless array of quality accessories to take this vehicle to any level of off road capabilities one could imagine. Finally you did a really quality review and walk around! 👍 👍
This is on my short list. I'm in Phoenix and purchased RX350 F-Sport from Superstition Springs and get serviced there. I might have to pay you a visit. The sales experience wasn't the greatest, but service is wonderful. I'm looking for a Premium or Premium +

All 5 dealers there are marking them up $$$ OVER MSRP and/or adding a lot of accessories with inflated markup. I sell them at MSRP plus $575 for window tint and $975 for Advanced Surface Protection where you never need to wax your vehicle EVER. It protects the exterior and the interior for life. We apply both during the Pre Delivery Inspection so it’s ready to roll when you take delivery.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I feel Lexus and Toyota nailed the boxy styling. Looks classy and will age well. Hyundai on the other hand, failed on the Sante Fe. It looks old already and the backend is a disaster for looks.
It's true! I love the look of these new Toyotas other than the front ends, and I thought the Hyundai was great when I first saw photos, now I'm already sick of looking at them after seeing a few in the wild. That design aged horribly. I think the previous gen of the Hyundai looks much better.
Tinkerer's Adventures did a great deep dive on the suspension of this and how it articulates better than other Toyota vehicles, even modified ones. And maybe one day Toyota will figure out how to make something without a giant front end, and also realize that hiding the recovery hooks deep under the chassis is not a great idea either. I'm sure there are companies working on full replacement bumpers that will address these big issues.
Thanks for focusing on the real world limitations of the GX's clearances. That makes it a definite "NO" for me, in northern Michigan (which looks about the same as the terrain where you produced your video in Canada).
*The approach angle is the most infuriating thing about the GX550 and GX460... the old GX470 had a proper approach angle... Lexus insists on lengthening the beak of this thing for aesthetics* 😢
other than a few YT reviewers, ain't nobody actually shelling out for one of these is doing anything remotely extreme off road. it's a an urban vehicle that might see a campground, get real.
@islandhopper100 not sure what you mean. This vehicle isn’t part of the recall for machining debris from the production process of its engine so there is not a need to have any engine replaced and so no impact to its resale value as a result.
I love the style. Planning on getting a 2025 Overtrail Plus. Hopefully, for 2025 they add option of real leather, rear camera mirror, panoramic roof, rear climate controls, and 3rd row seats on the Overtrail plus. Only complaint would be exposed rear wiper, should’ve been hidden under the rear roof spoiler. I do hope it can easily accommodate a winch behind the rear bumper and fit 35” tires.
i would think that anyone who off roads this truck will but a lift on the truck and better bigger tires. Thanks for being fair on not wrecking the truck for others.
In one of my groups here in New England, there are at least two people that have got these and are already asking about what mods to do them for off-roading.

I think Toyota got it backwards.. they gave the land cruiser a hybrid only option, while the Lexus version is gasoline. Seems like should be the other way around. If I'm going off road, id rather have a land cruiser, but not with a hybrid.
The old GX had a much more luxurious interior. The new GX has hard plastic on the sunroof cover, the old one had a soft material. The Kia Telluride at $50k has a much more luxurious interior than this $80k GX. Yeah the Kia can’t ‘off-road’ but it is an SUV etc.

Even the GX 460, the. best ones were with out air suspension, dont want that mess, those bags go. The GX 460 with the KDSS standard is the way to go. The Overtrail 550 has EKDSS and is awesome too.. as far as no V8 and an owner of a GX 460 and GX 5550 and Toyota Prado, they're all great.

The GX460, luxury addition with off road package, air suspension and v8, is verified superior on all levels here in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Sadly, Lexus is no more: Just an overpriced Toyota, same mistakes GM made with Cadillac, Pontiac and Oldsmobile. Cadillac sales never recovered while Pontiac and Oldsmobiles went out of business as a result of GM’s own stupidity. Toyota is following GMs same mistakes. No more Lexus. I drive a Lexus, a product that is a Lexus was a Lexus.

The air suspension on the GX is a load of crap! it only raises the rear end by a smidge and does nothing for the front end. Those rear bags go and the most toss them out and go full KDSS, because so called air suspension, is a piece of shit! Lexus Toyota is going with the times and trying to adjust. No company not even Benz has not gone to a smaller engine Turbo format, might as well go with a Toyota out of all of them. The GX 550 has more HP, More TQ, way better articulation than the old KDSS, the new EKDSS is superior. The GX 550 Overland is way better than any standard GX 460. I own both and can appreciate the for ever V8 in the GX 460, but its corky looking and ancient. The GX 550 is superior by far!
To be fair, the GX 550 isn't included in the recalls. I think its probably not immune to whatever issues the LX and Tundra have had, but going on the data available its not an issue for the GX.
Wait until you find out that previous v8 had numerous recalls in the beginning when it came out. How do you think Toyota engines became reliable??? They come out with recalls, fix them, and don’t change the engines for 15yrs. No one makes a new engine with 0 problems
No 2024’s have yet to be included in the recall. If you watch the car care nut video on this topic, he indicated there was a part number change on a critical component. So perhaps the issue will not present itself on the gx
Don’t mean to be rude, I would. I have OT+ on order, won’t do rock climbing but will try as much as I can. Only thing is this CAD $100,000 truck interior looks and feels so cheap than half priced Mazda. Exterior design is 10/10

It is ultra capable off road you just need to be ready to damage the bumpers, remove them or get the LC that has less overhang.

Lexus should add an air suspension option for future model years to help address some ground clearance issues.
They actually didnt raise it on purpose. They care more about articulation than ground clearance.

I own a GX550 switched from F150, I disagree on space, third row is non existent, rears leg hard to stretch, no cargo space to place water bottles
