    I had the same problem loved the trowel found it very light & great finish. Then bought a nela black as my mate raved about it but just couldn't get on with it but went back to a nela gold which I had before the marshalltown can't fault it, just have to remember to put the protective sleeves back on after!!!

    My main work trowel is a marshall town 16×5 carbon have it quiet a while cleaned it recently and what a difference top tip Alex from cleaning your trowels if you leave them in water just enough to cover the blade or whatever you want cleaned cover in baking powder and let it soak over night stiff brush the next day come up like brand new... Also what you were saying regards trowel width always found myself that the narrower the blade is the easier it is on your wrist don't fully know guess it's just a wide blade can leverage more pressure to your wrist or something 🤷🏻‍♂️ do like a narrow blade but can't really use m big nuckles I just end up skinning and busting them up on ceiling line's anyway as always keep the content coming always enjoy your video's 👍

    Pushing to hard going up beads. Only use top or bottom inch or 2 against the beads. Never use the middle of it. That’s what went wrong.

    I can’t quite see how a ripple like that has occurred from troweling off and wet trowelling. Take care of the trowel and always use the trowel edge protector. I mean I see and have also been guilty of placing my trowel hooked on the edge of a bucket and into the van. Prone to getting damaged like that. Also running them down beads.

    Hi Alex, love vids, as a DIYer go through spells where don't do any plastering , your vids helped me refresh my plastering skills. Quick question misplaced my cheap hawk that purchased many years ago when learning to plaster. Recently upgraded from 12"to 14" trowels ( MT permashape CS, Rafina superflex 2 & plaziflex), but not sure what size hawk to get 13" or 14"?

      13” is what I prefer. You don’t get a dirty t-shirt when working as it doesn’t rub up against it as much.

    Hi Alex I always use a medium flex and they stay great, got the Nela and am using supaflex 2 and find it brilliant also 14” but thinking going up to 16” all way through, 18” little too long in my eyes but I think medium flex is way to go those 0.3mm blades are too fragile

    I broke a Marshall town trowel I contacted Marshall Town and got there USA based customer service center. They directed me to UK based customer service center. I emailed them they said return trowel to us and provided I hadn't abused it they would replace it for free. I returned it and within 5 days of breaking trowel they replaced it.

    Am I right in thinking that the spec of this trowel with a 0.3mm blade is about the same spec as the Refina 1. Getting a bit confused about trowels and would like to try the Permaflex but judging by what people are saying here on TH-cam the medium flex towels with a 0.04mm blade such as the Refina or Nela are more suited to final finishes or a Refina 2 with the 0.05mm blade. Am I missing something here. Would like a 13 inch trowel and that narrows my options down by quite a bit. Seems I’ve got the Refina 1, the Permaflex or the NELA black edition to pick from or maybe the mediflex. What’s everyone think about this. Can I get away with the MT then the Permaflex to finish with? Cheers Alex and everyone else

    • @AlexMorleyPlastering
      @AlexMorleyPlastering  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If your going 13” go for the MT. It is without a doubt the best flexible out there. But the 18” is too fragile to use for any amount of skimming.

    • @lewigas290
      @lewigas290 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Alex. So I’m ok with the Permaflex for laying on then first and second trowels then move on to the Permaflex to finish with. Just as a matter of interest why is it that most people have moved away from the ultra flexible trowels? Is it just a trend and like most other things is it just down to personal preference and finding out what works best for the individual through trial and error.. thanks spending your time replying and helping.

    • @AlexMorleyPlastering
      @AlexMorleyPlastering  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lewigas290 no you want to use a SS or CS trowel to lay on with up to the first wet trowel. Then do the second set trowel with the permaflex. Should come out lovely.
      I think plasterers thought they were easier to use as they took less strain on your body, but they give inconsistent results so have moved back to doing most of the work with a stiffer trowel.
      Normal to test out new methods, not all of them work.

    3000 meters and that's not enough area for you to buy another trowel? How much are you making per meter ? I'll buy a new trowel for every larger job. Always have a new trowel in the rotation, sure I have my favorites but you never know when something bad is going to happen.

      I’d allow a plastic or flex if I was doing that much meterage but not laying on trowels. I’ve got a razor sharp mt 13 inch carbon, same again I’m breaking in, and a stainless I’m working on. Anymore than that is pointless for me
