    I use the 20 by 5 stainless steel Mt, I don't find that fades when I lay on or close in. It's got some weight but not significantly more. Gets the walls and anything it goes near flat. Also it's really good for laying on render. Each to their own. Keep the vids coming. Great content as always.

      That’s massive, I had a nela 18x5 and it was quite heavy, but the 18x4 is so light

    Wickes were selling the 18x5 permashapes off on clearance for 30quid so picked a couple up, bargain and great trowel for laying big walls/ceilings on.

    I use different trows to suit the work I'm doing, big trows are useful on (new work) large strait walls/ceilings, but not much use for skimming over old bumpy work, I like my flexible 13x5 or 14X5 stainless steel for that. To be honest, might as well use a speed skim rather than a big trow, my carbon steel is so rusted up and pitted from lack of use, I doubt I will ever use it again.

    i have same trowel, you can’t lay on with a 4inch trowel, i lay on
    and flatten and flick of water to compress with a 13 carbon, then go onto the 18

    Great video Alex👍🏻, my favourite trowel is a wicks own brand 18 x 4" carbon steel, I've had for nearly twenty years, my 14 x 5" Marshall town stainless steel is so much more heaver and tends to stay in my box with all the others. I don't think its got anything to do with the quality of my wicks special (I call her big bertha 🤣) I just think it's to do with the size, weight and carbon steel.
    Also do you have names for your trowels? or is that just a northern thing 🤣

    Used 1 years ago, the carbons better than the stainless, never put on with it was only used for trowlin up tbh

    You only need a 13/14 max for putting on.. my mate had that big daft thing you've got. He used to call it 'The Power'. We had to put it on roof rack! Haha. Maybe if you had shovel hand's and a manhole cover for a hand board you might win.
    I use a bigger flex trowel to start finishing. If you're any good your second coat will be nice n tight all marks out then on to finishing.

    Hi Alex I’ve had the 18 x 4 carbon for a few years now on and off great finish I would say it can be a little hard on the shoulder so I tend to use my flex on the 2 ms wet trowel how about do you use the whole way through

    To summarise.. you got big walls use big trowel ,
    Smaller walls use smaller trowel .. who would of thought it 🤣🤣

    Im just an beginner so could be completely wrong , but to me 18inch trowel to lay on seems pointless to me if your using a 13inch handboard coz you can’t fill the full trowel with material which is evident in the size of the passes being put on , good for flattering and troweling off but that’s just my opinion could be completely wrong.

    • @AlexMorleyPlastering
      @AlexMorleyPlastering  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The theory makes sense, however there is a slightly different technique for taking plaster of a hawk when the trowel is bigger.
      Also when applying the plaster to the wall with a bigger trowel, as you put it on the wall it spreads the plaster out over the trowel as you pull it up the wall.
      So the theory is there but in practicality the larger trowel does work fine.

    • @NiktheEnglishGreekCypriot
      @NiktheEnglishGreekCypriot ปีที่แล้ว

      The narrow trowels do take a while as they’re stiffer. Plus you can’t expect to get too much of a curve on a trowel that narrow. Plus it’s stainless so it’ll take years

    Broken in it should be ok for Final Troweling / Polishing... Be OK (ish) for Screeding ; Good for Smooth Finish Concrete or Granite Toppings.
    If you used it All Day Everyday for Sand and Cement Roughing On you'd end up with forearms like *POPEYE* after a can of Spinach...
    Other than that ? It would make an Excellent Busk for Back Scraping Badly Skimmed walls L 😂 L
