    Did the City and Guilds course nearly 20 years ago. Used one good trowel back then.

    bang on mate, these flexs and plastic trowels have there place but at the very end of the gauge, im pretty much marshall town all the way through apart from the speedskims to flatten in 👍

      You know the crack man, all great trowels but just got to use them at the right time, speed skim is awesome too 👊🏾

    You’re right I know loads of guys who’ve had work pulled on site because of using super flex trowels too early, I use always have a standard 14 inch carbon steel marshalltown for scratching on and laying in, use a speed skim for flattening off after each coat, my first trowel though I use a Nela mediflex I’ve always thought it’s stiff enough for the job, only ever use a Refina Superflex when skims gone for a polish.
    I’ve also got one of those Plaziflex from Nela only for polishing but seldom use it.
    Most guys use the thin trowels because they give less wrist and arm fatigue.
    And I think timing when the plaster is going enough to use different trowels is key, get it wrong and it’ll look like a ploughed field when painted.
    And the best angle trowel I’ve ever used and had is a Ragni, your angles are mint.

    What’s happening nowadays mate is we’re surrounded by people who don’t want to try and want to be gods gift instantly.
    Iv been on the trowel 30 year, been a teacher at a school 20 years, and they all say the same thing Joel. Can I get good in a few days if I use a speed skim and flexi trowel? You should see the look on there faces when I tell them no, it’ll take years and you have to use a stiff Marshalltown to learn.
    Love your videos mate, keep up the good work. 💪🏻💪🏻

      A 18 inch will be alright for finishing on big areas mate, if you need to do small walls it might be a bit big, but either way you use it for the polish you can’t go wrong brother 👊🏾

    ey up pal , i never had a nela but altho marshalltown is the don of plastering of course 😁 i have a ox trowel have u tried them ? which i always seem to reach for more often than not i just think it sits better in my hand altho it seems to be a bit more rigid than the marshalltown i use it the most and well said of flexis only good for flattening and odd awkward stuff all is well till the light hits it .

    Hello mate I’ve been plastering now for 25 years and I’m a little confused???? I only Polish plaster to a mirror finish when I don’t like or don’t get on with the decorator, it seems to me that most plasterers nowadays put a glass finish on plaster.

    • @Happytruth
      @Happytruth ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed it should by the old standard be like an eggshell to the touch that way the paint sticks better, way less troweling just wait longer and trowel maybe one less time.
      I know what the problem is here after doing site work I’m my younger days, the problem is now a days for clients polished finish is expected and trowels like Refina super flex one pass over at the end and they’re so sharp and thin the walls like a mirror.
