    Been using barrel jointer for ten years now best tool ever. Would never go back to traditional Marshall town jointer they wear in 2 weeks. Buy the amtech one tho does exactly the same for a 3rd of the cost.

    I’m in the US and only 33 so I grew up learning to point up and joint up with the barrel jointers. Will say after watching you and Stu crumpet on TH-cam channels I have learned how to use the other style jointers you showed as well. Before I use to watch guys butcher some work with those style jointers

    I use a Hubbard brand of basically the same. Turn your barrels backwards. It takes a little getting used to but I think you will enjoy the tool.

    They are pretty much the standard in the U.S. or those types of jointers anyways. My main problem with them is the rubber threads on the inside of the barrels are somewhat weak and are easily stripped. Since production is king where I live and lay, that tends to mean excessive wear but other than that I haven't found a smoother jointing tool. Good review brother man.

    Hey, I smack my jointer off my steel toe boot too lol! I do love the jointer, but mine was used so much the barrels are falling off and won’t screw... so I had to stick a tooth pick or wire with it to hold on. I found the “rat tail” is my favorite... it’s like a standard jointer but it’s all barrel.... no concave on other side.// it’s heavier than the standard joiner but just feels right.

    I've found often I like to use just the barrel on its own to reach hard to get places, near to the ground etc where the length of a normal jointer can be a problem. I thought about cutting one in half just for this purpose but haven't got round to it yet.

  • @johncoppock3823
    @johncoppock3823 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Be simpler if they just provided another handle (different colour) for the other barrels. Or at least some kind of low cost holder in bright colour. For zero budget a bit of slightly bent scrap copper pipe on the end of a bit of bamboo does the job.

      Most use the barrel jointer. Harder to keep clean but seem to do neater job in an experienced hand. ( have also used the barrel with the rounded part out ) I've seen a jointer called " barbell " . That would be a cool review. Never used one. I've seen them in the Kraft Tool catalog. Also, seems most guys prefer the London trowl in the US and most guys use the Philadelphia trowel in the UK.
