  • Part 2: Training day.
Riding all stages, searching for lines, smacking blow, kicking sheep, buffing paint.
The stages here are long and they are hard, they lack big scary features like huge drops etc but are very technical, either step/slippery/tight or really really steep and demands full attention.
Am I in over my head?

Tried a little bit different format for this one.
Hoping the added commentary makes it more enjoyable and easier to follow what’s going on, gave me slight brain damage to do since I don’t have the right equipment as usual.. But it’s all about PRODUCTION VALUE, BRO.
Thinking a lot about video length too, I mean shit this one is 30min do people even watch videos this long? 🤷‍♂️

Added commentary is really good. Good to hear more insight from you. And I personally like the longer videos, showing not just the decent but the climbs and interaction with other riders.

Thanks Larry! Yeah I feel like so many mtb videos gets boring after 25 seconds so want to see if it’s possible to hinder that. 😂
..But dude the process of recording this video, hah! Had to use my gopro as mic, record every clip seperately, remove the SD Card in between each clip, export, import, synch with video, think I got to bed at like 4 am that night.
My scruffy set-up’s are not always optimal 🤷‍♂️ Think I should get a real mic lol

Nice training! Do you still use the YT Tues from time to time? It seems like you are riding mainly the Propain

Thanks bud, yeah I smoked 2 wheels in like 2 weeks on the Tues last season and after that I didn’t want to get another wheel.. hah!
But it’s built up now and will ride it again this week for the first time in a bit, so hopefully will come out with another Tuesy video in a few weeks. 😉

Obviously it's very easy to judge without ever ridden the trails but here is some completely unnecessary and detailed opinion.
At first it looks like you're not opening up in corners a lot. (example at 5:17, 8:28) You also tend to turn your bars a lot but not lean your bike that much
Then you start opening up and do an abrupt turn, at higher speeds that wont be fun, try to lean your bike more coming into the corner then you have a smaller angled turn to make.
At 20:00 depending on the taping of course it looks like you could go in the top right off camber section then straight-line it into the left line without touching brakes/having to turn.
At 20:22 i would consider the left line if its even possible to grip on it, the one you rode would probably become a complete rut and will suck a lot of exit speed
Also again could be the camera angle or because its training and you're preserving energy but you could pump a lot of features on the trail to maintain flow and accelerate, instead it looks like you bike is compressing instead of you compressing it.
Good luck out there stay safe!

Wow thanks alot for that comment and all the details!
Yeah as you say I’m really trying to conserve energy here since it’s training day, even with the shuttling it was a very long day haha.
Since it was my first race with distances like this (the first stage started with 1.5hours climb) I tried to really pace calmly on training.
So yeah, I saved the pumping for race day!
That said, I think your observation is correct, that I need to open up more, sure in this video it’s all mostly blind riding so opening up gets hard.
But I think you’re 100% right that some places would be so much smoother with more confidence.
I actually do work on tilting the bike more, right now it does not come automaticly outside of off-camber riding, on off cambers my musclememory dips the bars auto. 😁
For that super tight corner that I dropped my bike in, the line was totally to go far right first and then cut inside, problem was a really long root along that exact angle but for sure that’s the line.
Here you go, a long and drawn out response! 😉😘 Thanks again.

You videos deserve so much more views and subscribers! Do you have instagram?

Tehe, thanks! Hard to get the channel noticed since youtube is drowning in content basically 😬
It’s fun to do the videos though so it’s all good!
      I have an Insta @augustgille
That some of my subs follow, It’s not 100% MTB stuff though so you know 😘
