Recently became a patron after following you guys for a couple of years. Tomorrow I’m attending my first sailing race and will be giving sailing a go for the very first time!! I’m beyond excited and wanted to thank you for inspiring me.
I'm Portuguese and was on vacation in Lagos around the time of filming. The lifeguard you mention @ 1:59 freaks out with every motor boat since Meia Praia beach is very near the port entrance and there's always a lot of maritime traffic possibly unsafe to swimmers (the jet-sky you saw stationed belongs to lifeguard service). If you go further away from the port entrance lifeguards are more relaxed with dinghys approaching the beach. Love you guys and enjoyed very much the latest videos from the south of Portugal. Aww I have met Bri. We met out in Joshua Tree NP in California. My wife, dad and I had made a camp fire and Bri and her friend came over and spent the evening sharing stories. Was a great night and so fun. Such a small world.

I love the fact that you show those unplanned repairs that are such a big part of sailing. I like that you show yourselves getting sweaty and salty. Riley even has the bumps, bruises, cuts and scraps that many cruisers have. A lot of cruising couples look like they are in an abusive relationship with their boat. Riley looks pretty salty in this video. Good on him. Lenny always looks sooo cute. :-)

I must commend you on how well you document and film the very challenging parts of sailing! It really isn’t all fun and games is it? 😏 This particular episode, and a few others, are cautionary tales for those romanticizing the activity of sailing around the world, it’s not a vacation 24/7. It is hard, exhausting and very unpredictable at times! AND you do it with a toddler on board, just mind-blowing. You are all so wonderful for sharing your experiences with us. We get to sail with you and witness this very unique Life through your eyes! 🙏
can post a video that explains, every costs, of docking? every time you "stop/park" the boat you pay?!!! a litlle research and the prices are absurd??? same price and you stay in a hotel and travel by plane!...of course its not the same but...example im from portugal buy a solar cat, wanna go portugal spain italy and greece 3/4 days in each one, thats how much just to dock or mooring? average thanks

I was in the Canadian navy for 28 years. A little over 15 of those years posted to a ship. I never did get over being sea sick. I feel for you Elayna, the only thing worse is passing kidney stones. :-)
We sailed back from the Azores at the beginning of August. To pass time on watch I really liked listening to audio books - “Where the crawdads sing” and “The beekeeper of Aleppo”. Great stories to pass time but also to let you think about the challenges in other people’s lives. Enjoy
So, I’m a retired librarian, Jr./High school for 16 years. So many of my recommendations may not be intellectual enough, but I loved the Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. So good and read by Polly Stone. It’s a WW II story. “Dorothy Must Die” by Danielle Paige. A “Wizard of Oz” twist. I found these on IBooks so hopefully Audiobooks has them too. Latest book I read is called “Educated” by Tara Westover. It’s been in the New York Best Sellers top ten. I hope you enjoy whatever you read!

A couple of audible audiobooks suggestions you guys may enjoy: Oceans/climate change: - The water will come by Jeff Goodall - this was recommended to me by my supervisor (for my Masters thesis on coastal climate change adaptation) which starts with a potential (scary) future for the world and then discusses how different parts of the developed world are preparing/adapting and whether what they are doing is enough. One of my favourites so far and I’ve listened to it probably four times so far - This changes everything by Naomi Klein - typical Naomi Klein book regarding climate change and the impacts what we’re doing to the planet has on animal health/populations Endurance sport (I haven’t listened to these two in a while but from memory they were amazing!): Finding Ultra by Rich Roll - his journey to, well, finding ultra through drug addiction, rehab, obesity and eventually to ultra. And not just ultra but to completing five iron mans in five days within a couple of years of starting. Alistair Humpreys: Around the world by bike - his four (I think) year journey cycling around the world, stories from the places he travelled to and insane feats of endurance and racing tourist visas through China and across Siberia! Sailing related: - The Sydney Hobart Yacht Race by Rob Mundle (if you haven’t already listened to it ) was a great listen on my Melbourne-Brissie drive at the beginning of the year - Swell by Liz Clark - her journey into full time on the ocean and all the mishaps along the way (that was my listen post contract in Brissie on the drive back to Melbourne) Others: - Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman - really well written and spoken Norse mythology stories which I found really calming - Promise me, Dad by Joe Biden - only just finished this one yesterday but definitely got hit with emotions a number of times. This is his book about Beau Biden’s (his son) battle with brain cancer, those final years and it also goes into briefly how the loss of his wife and baby daughter in a car crash in (I think) 1972 shapes how he responds to losses within the community and how he attempts to comfort the families.
Lenny is the luckiest little boy to have 2 gorgeous parents that make all the time in the world for him (even when they are stressed and over worked) He is going to grow up to be a beautiful giving kid

Oceans/climate change:
- The water will come by Jeff Goodall - this was recommended to me by my supervisor (for my Masters thesis on coastal climate change adaptation) which starts with a potential (scary) future for the world and then discusses how different parts of the developed world are preparing/adapting and whether what they are doing is enough. One of my favourites so far and I’ve listened to it probably four times so far
- This changes everything by Naomi Klein - typical Naomi Klein book regarding climate change and the impacts what we’re doing to the planet has on animal health/populations
Endurance sport (I haven’t listened to these two in a while but from memory they were amazing!):
Finding Ultra by Rich Roll - his journey to, well, finding ultra through drug addiction, rehab, obesity and eventually to ultra. And not just ultra but to completing five iron mans in five days within a couple of years of starting.
Alistair Humpreys: Around the world by bike - his four (I think) year journey cycling around the world, stories from the places he travelled to and insane feats of endurance and racing tourist visas through China and across Siberia!
Sailing related:
- The Sydney Hobart Yacht Race by Rob Mundle (if you haven’t already listened to it ) was a great listen on my Melbourne-Brissie drive at the beginning of the year
- Swell by Liz Clark - her journey into full time on the ocean and all the mishaps along the way (that was my listen post contract in Brissie on the drive back to Melbourne)
Others:
- Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman - really well written and spoken Norse mythology stories which I found really calming
- Promise me, Dad by Joe Biden - only just finished this one yesterday but definitely got hit with emotions a number of times. This is his book about Beau Biden’s (his son) battle with brain cancer, those final years and it also goes into briefly how the loss of his wife and baby daughter in a car crash in (I think) 1972 shapes how he responds to losses within the community and how he attempts to comfort the families.

Yep, that's a good book - Flatshare by Beth O'Leary should make anyone happy in these miserable times and her follow up book, The Switch, is even better - both great books

I highly suggest any audible book by Fredrik Backman - so much fun and interesting character development. Just get through the first 3 chapters and you are strapped in!
You know, I also can't sleep with sunlight so perhaps it's time to invest in a good sleeping blindfold. Has been such a godsend for me! Try it!
