It would only be a cliche if influencers normally used their following to help others. But because the norm is only influencers trying to sell you merchandise it's sadly not a cliche. Be proud you're one of the rare influencers using their following to help others. You're no cliche. Never be ashamed to help others. Selling a product is embarrassing. Saving a life is not.
@Garrett Harvey but name one country with an instable government that wasn't colonised by the western world before. Show me research that proofs that instability isn't caused by the prior colonialism? One?!

They’re going for free stuff. Maybe stop making people think they’ll get free stuff? Maybe Soros can have his boats take people back to Africa? Just an idea for honest people who aren’t being emotionally manipulated to promote an invasion.
Both of my parents are refugees who came to Canada from Vietnam back in the 70's, thank you for sharing this story. There is a special place in my heart for refugees!
I think the most profound statement you made was, "They got on the boat..." My wish is that one day no one feels like they need to get on the boat. God Bless you guys.
That is the best statement yet. "One day no one feels like they need to get on the boat". Big countries should be going after these poor 3rd world leaders. Make them pay for what they do to their own people.
@@krantzjerry The leaders of the « Big countries » are still trading with the leaders who are not respecting their people and their land... and consumers are still buying products that should be banned for the same reasons (ex: green beans from Kenya, a favorite hazelnut spread full of palm oil, famous brands selling cheap clothes, etc.) What you eat and what you buy IS political -and consumers are much more powerful than you might think. Stop buying some products and you will see « they » will adapt their production. Keep eating poor quality meat in fast foods, and they will keep on with industrial farming... and by the way, this food is not cheap!
This comment from Riley hit me too, my grandparents were in the same situation and they were fortunate enough to make a better life for themselves because they took a chance and got on a boat to Italy. Anyone risking their lives this way is more than deserving of a peaceful life, I hope those in this situation currently find that too

@@ronaldbeck1762 Don't blur the line between refugees and immigrants who either overstayed their visa or were brought into a country illegally to fill job positions. Unreported in your media is that in the U.S., the vast number of undocumented workers were originally recruited by American businesses concerned to cut costs with cheap labor, still a common practice in construction, farming, meat processing, sweat shops, restaurant business, etc., i.e. the problem is largely of our own doing. Refugees though, arrive without a job waiting for them, it's a different set of problems for a country to solve.

Hey guys! This was an amazing and emotional video. I found myself tearing up multiple times throughout it. I follow you now for years, and I just wanted to give a massive shout out TO YOU! For creating such an amazing platform. Got myself thinking during the episode, how amazing it must be to have people with such an important cause, knock at your door for you to share such an important matter. It must be such an humbling experience. And I’m so amazed and excited for all of your achievements, but above all truly happy to have found such good and pure people sharing messages to our society that should be cared and talked about more. This is a highly emotive topic at the moment for many countries. Living in Britain there is a notion that the migrants travelling across the English Channel are economic migrants as they have travelled through several ‘safe’ mainland European countries in which they could have claimed asylum.
This line of thinking is so ridiculous. The migrant living in a shelter or delivering my takeaway isn't stealing my wealth half as much as the rich corporates in Canary Wharf are. If we're going to talk stealing resources - the British Empire colonized Africa in 1870, stealing its natural resources including gold, ivory and so much more. Now all that looting is proudly displayed in the finest museums across the world. I think it's pitiful that so many Brits are afraid of these people searching for a better life but will gladly smile and bow down to the Royal Family who live in absurd wealth on their dime. (This comment is not directed at you by the way, just the sentiment you speak of)
This is a definite concern, and a lot of blame goes to the traffickers who salesman people into getting on the boats. I've spoken to economic migrants "refugees" from Sri Lanka here in Australia who honestly didn't understand the risk and magnitude of what they were doing until it was too late, and then they become genuine refugees because it's dangerous then to return to Sri Lanka for threat of repercussions of leaving. I don't know the solution, but I wonder if more opportunities for legal immigration could help. In Australia our rural populations are getting slimmer and slimmer, and immigration could really help boost our economies. We need to stop the boats from the source because it's a travesty people are dying at sea in these conditions.
Just look at the mess what is on the coast of calais. people entering illegal to the UK . they just should do the same as italy and close everthing so they wont get on the sea
I love and admire you guys so damn much. I just started rewatching from ep 1 and have always loved how you've talked the talk and walked the walk. I was beginning to falter that you guys had maybe gone too influencer-y, BUT I know at your core you're just 2 really good people, raising a really good kid, and forever using this platform to spread good. I don't mean this in a critical way, it's always hard when an audience grows and the creativity evolves, but this episode restored why I stick with you guys! you are the real deal
Very good video!! The lyrics of the songchoice at 19:37, they really hit my heart. Good on you Riley for looking into this complex and heartbreaking situation and (re)bringing it to light here. Thank you for helping Sarah and thank you for making this video. People may have varying opinions on fixing issues in peoples home countries and weather or not they should be allowed to stay where their boat lands. But I hope we can all agree, nobody should be left to fend for themselves on a boat that may or may not drift into the Atlantic ocean, under any circumstances.
Takes a lot of courage to present a view when options are so diverse. What’s important is no that we always agree, but rather, that we respect those with such courage. We need them to make us aware & challenge us.
I’ve got two refugees (7 year olds) in my class in the Uk and watching this breaks my heart. They tell me about the boat they travelled in and some of what happened but watching this really brings it to life. They are so determined to learn English and absorb as much as learning as they can ♥️

There are literally MILLIONS more people in Africa who would like to go to Europe. Should they ALL be able to have that "difference" made in their lives? Face reality.

They are! It is big business profiting on a very sad situation with desperate peoples lives. True, you are assisting desperate people, bur also putting money in the hands of criminal networks. The more people you help, the better the business.... and there are millions waiting in Africa.

I’m 71, Australian & although I have embraced diversity in our country & supported our countries most (per capital) generous immigration policy. I must admit, I have never supported the movement of illegal immigrants. It’s a complex issue & I fear that I will not have space to articulate my reasoning. It should be understood that I am not without compassion. The situation breaks my heart. I’m a father & I know that regardless of our race or religion, we are exactly the same. We want to care & protect our children & we want them to have good health, enough to eat & be loved. We all want that. Knowing that, if I was in their position, I would do the same. Anything to save my family. Remember, I said it was complicated. I’m not suggesting that their is one solution or indeed, if their is even an absolute solution. I know I care & want to help. The question is what is the most effective short & long term solution. Maybe a simple analogy would be better. I’m in a life raft. I’m pulling in survivors until the boat is full. I want to save everyone. I must save everyone. I do everything to exceed the boat capacity until I know anymore survivors will ensure that not only will the remaining survivors be lost, but everyone in the boat will also be lost. The outcome is no one survives. Is it fair, no, but the better of what is not a perfect solution. Legal immigration allows nations with financial capacity to fund immigration & save as many as they are able. Exceed that capacity & their is one less country to find help. I would like to see the world manage a balanced approach to legal immigration. It’s what’s made Australia great. However, I would like to see nations funding businesses that provide employment, standard of living & improvements in education. Let’s help these people grow & prosper. They can then also help the world & welcome others to their respective beautiful countries. Certainly, a multi layered approach to meet short & long term needs. I know I don’t have a perfect answer, but I know I want to help others be well & prosper. We are mums & dads & we share exactly the same aspiration. So simple to extend your hand to help someone to get off their knees. Pay it forward, as you just might just need someone’s hand yourself. I have only one wish. I wish we could save everyone. Not possible, but not a reason, to save as many as we can.
Great bigger picture statement. The life raft analogy is apt when you zoom out and consider that the problems in places life Africa are only getting worse, and you realize that the solution of bringing in an indefinite number for an infinite period, will eventually sink the ship. Compassion may be better shown by helping these people in their countries. Compassion good. Bigger picture compassion better.
I really appreciate your words. They are beautiful, compassionate and grounded. The heavy layers / degree to which human nature and this planet’s twisted set up is in place is heart wrenching. The ethical questions are endless esp from a birds eye view. I appreciate you sir. Everyone needs the same very simple things. We ARE all one. I pray for a day we can figure out the answers and the day we have the enforced right / ability to put the good people in “power” Even though this drawn out moment feels like the end of the world, we will rise up. That’s what all of this is actually about... It’s not their agenda’s “great reset”, but our universe’s *great awakening* We will rise. Love and light - 27 F Boston, MA

With all the sympathy and respect to the refugees, we cant take them all. Europe is experiencing its own crisis and political differences. The more refugees we accept the more will set sail to cross the med in hope they too will find refuge in Europe causing more tensions between European countries. I do feel extremally sorry for these people but accepting them in Europe is not the solution. They should have available help in Arica and the USA who started the Syria crisis should be the first one to help.
Exactly, most of them take these risks because even if they had a full time job down there, they would get more money for doing nothing in one of europes welfare states. They need to fix their economies because economical refugees will get shipped back anyhow.
I don't think Europeans fully realise how good we have it compared to the rest of the world. Otherwise we wouldn't scrooge over our wealth and resources so much. Wealth and resources we acquired over the backs of these country's that are now in trouble because of it by the way.
@@miriam4235 how we have it in Europe is how we and our ancestors have developed it.We weren't given the way we live by anyone. What is stopping Africa from developing their economy, education, healthcare etc? Why don’t the coast guard tag the boat they have rescued? Ais would be ideal but maybe expensive. Even just some recognisable spray paint so that volunteers know the can move on and look elsewhere
I feel so conflicted with this situation.. Yes, I feel very deeply about human kind... However, I feel providing a rescue service is also encouraging more inexperienced people to put their entire family in danger knowing, or hoping for a rescue. Most of these people have been sold inadequate equipment to make these journeys by gangs earning a fortune.
I doubt encouragement is really an issue. Starvation and violence tend to be encouragement enough. If your concern is the boats they come in maybe lobby western governments to provide better ones. But it's never actually about the fleeing masses welfare is it? It's just a way to hide xenophobic intent in a humane cloak. These are people we are talking about. Ask anne frank if the attic she was offered was adequate.? Seriously most people complaining would have told the SS she was there. And Schindler would have been branded a people smuggler.
I can see where you are coming from, as the thought could be "oh we are going to get rescued anyways so we'll be safe" more often than not that is not the case. Actually the amount of people desperatley clamouring into those tiny boats tends to increase when word gets out that europe is tightening their restrictions as that sort of creates a "now or never" feeling in people who were already contemplating risking their lifes on this journey...
@@blackduck7851 I also agree with you. I'm on a knife edge about what the right thing is to do... But some of these poor souls are often being sold a solution to their dilemma, without knowing the dangers.
@@kpayne2919 a simple reason as to why we often see young healthy looking men in these boats is that a lot of families can only afford for one person to go and hope that eventually that one person will be able to safe the other people they had to leave behind. Seeing as crossing the sea is a very dangerous situation and if you only have one chance you are going to choose the strongest healthiest person. That often are the young men of the family.
I have been watching for years now. I don’t interact much, well because you guys are famous and probably don’t get to read every comment. But in case you see this one, I’m speechless. Love you guys, happy SAFE sailing!
Thank you Riley. For stepping into an uncomfortable situation and bringing to light the heart breaking reality to us ALL privileged souls, who forget the lengths humans will go to SIMPLY have a better life for their loved ones and themselves. I just hope narrow-minded keyboard warriors will not take away the importance of this message. Just to remember how beautiful it is, when humans help other humans, who are strangers to us.
I sat and watched in tears trying to imagine what would drive these people to risk their lives and their children's lives. As I continued to watch I got bloody angry when I heard that tired old phrase "economic migrants". It seems crazy to me that here in Britain many people talk about migrants and complain about the cost to the state of keeping them in custody. Why not give them work permits and allow them to work and support themselves whilst paying tax and insurance. They could have temporary visas which would be reviewed and provided they worked and supported themselves then they could apply for citizenship. After all the USA was built on migration and that doesn't seem to have done them any harm. Seems like a lot of people in this world simply don't like "others" and are willing to deny them the very basic rights that they themselves enjoy. Thank you so much for showing us that some people care for their fellow human beings and publicising their work.🧡
What an immaculate and worthy use of knowledge and resources.. watching this made me think that It is a very sad state of affairs when boats filled with refugees can be turned away, often because of a lack of suitable recourses on land to process if they are bona fide; when there are so many cruise liners being scrapped due to COVID that could be used in locations such as the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands to house, shelter and process these thousands of people. Scrap value is worth more than any and all human life? Time to re-assess.
Sometimes you have to take chances and follow your heart even if it’s not the most popular view. When you take a stand and follow up with action it shapes who we are as people. You are good people and have done everything in your power to respond to world issues, more than most are willing to do. I have watched your channel from the start ,when you were just learning who you wanted to be. Well done.
I'm trying to figure out what they did that was so great. Did they actually take a stand? I don't think so. They looked for some people for a few days and it made them feel good about themselves. Maybe they could take in a few to live with them and feed them long term. Maybe you could have a few come and live with you. I bet you wouldn't
20:22 This gentleman in his designer clothing, smart phone and expensive watch is not a refuge, he is an economic migrant. His country needs him at home working and building up the economy. It is heart breaking people are drowning at sea but the way to stop the deaths is returning them so others so the massive risk is pointless. People taking their children on open boats across the sea should be prosecuted for endangering children.

As a refugee from Cuba I can tell you the fear from what can happen to you and yours in your own country has to be huge to make you want to risk everything to leave on the ocean in rickety floating objects. We have been risking the ocean very much like what you saw here and have been doing so for over 60 years. There is no telling how many of my countrymen lie in the bottom of the ocean never having gotten to freedom. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for bringing this news to be viewed on your channel here. Thank you for your compassion also.
as a Cuban refugee living in Miami, I'm surprised you didn't encounter refugees fleeing cuba, while you were in the Caribbean. people who have everything especially peace and freedom find it hard to understand this. it's a good thing what you are doing and May God protect you and those you are traveling with and keep you safe as well as the refugees seeking safety and freedom. I can see the emotion on both your faces and as I type this message tears run down my face. I get it. my aunt left Cuba on a raft and brought us all from Cuba with blood sweat and tears safely on freedom flights. we were lucky.
Good job guys, very kind to go out and look for them. I once got to meet and have a little chat with a survivor. Once trust being established, he started to talk about 1 thousand dangers they went through, and what they witnessed. From his mates getting hunt, caught and murdered long before they could reach coast and a boat, they then got to face the great blue. If they land into the wrong hands, it's then getting raped murdered in plain open street in Lybia. As a victim or a witness. If you get to speak to them, notice their wandering eyes lost afar. 'Cause: they put themselves in great harm ways.
Deportation is the only solution. Unfortunately its also a costly solution and these illegal economic migrants know this fact. That is why they will still take the chance.
Thank you guys! I had no Idea this was going on! You guys are special and very refreshing to see the world still has hope because of people like you! Cheers!
Thank you for sharing this. I've followed La Vagabonde for a while and have often wondered if you've come in to contact with the refugee crisis. I'm glad you're sharing this part of your journey: humbling, powerful and necessary. Much love to the beautiful people acting with compassion to help in any way they can.
I watched this episode with my 11 year old son, he had so many questions as to why and what caused people to flee and risk their lives this way. We talked deeply about what I do know and researched a bit more. We are so bubbled in our affluent lives that for most, this is not a part of our reality. Im a single mom who certainly is not rich but living in remote mountains of Canada, refugees are not a part of daily reality. I thank you for making this episode and for your supports to the causes. over a decade ago, as world trade agreements were hot in the media, i saw this coming. We have serious inequalities across all countries and even worse in what we term 'developing'. Most often, these are also the people who come from communities who are the slave labour to our incessant need for goods, whether its lithium and other minerals mining for all of our gadgets, gold, chocolate, coffee, all of the commodities that we grab with no thought. Thank you for raising the awareness through your global platform.
Africa has 1.3 billion people, should we let them all come to Europe, America, Canada and Australia? I agree that we should stop exploiting Africa and leave them to their own devices but tell that to the world leaders that also fund this immigration.
That is true, but that doesnt mean they have anything to do with their governments. And Australia is lucky enough to have these 3 to promote their country.
Riley & Elana, you are both quality people and all that follow you know this. No explanations are needed, follow your spirits as always and we will all support you!
Wow, this story is so sad. I still hold the image of a small Syrian boy face down on the beach of Bodrum in Turkey after the boat he was on sank during the Syrian crisis. I did not know about these refugee coming out of Northern African on small boats. Riley, you are someone very special to drop everything and go out and help and video tape the event to help bring attention. I donated and hope everyone that this story reaches also helps out. God Bless you guys.
You should listen to what the boy's aunt said, they were safe in Turkey but his father wanted to have his teeth fixed. The vast majority are illegal immigrants plain and simple, not refugees.
That boy's name was Alan Kurdi and the photograph you saw was staged in order to create a more emotional scene. The photographers moved his body and posed it.
I agree with the guy who said that this is treating symptoms. It's obvious that the world community must be morally committed to tackling the problem of poverty and supporting the building of self - sufficient states in Africa. No matter how you look at it, refugee flows are an unsustainable solving of problems. In many cases, it is undoubtedly the total legitimate dream of better living conditions that gets people out to sea. Many regret later because the dream was - a dream. The "good life" is something more than the material comfort in Europe, it is also cultural belonging, family, traditions and a sense of continuity. And to feel accepted wherever you are. But faced with people in life-threatening situations all intellectual speculations are silenced. As Riley says - "they are in the boats now" and it would be reprehensible and inhuman not to help - you actually have no choice.
This will stay with me for a very long time. It is hard to see any good in the world when there is this much suffering, but to you and all others involved in trying to create some level of humanity in these crisis’s, thank you.
Great job guys, we all need to also force our governments to allocate money to this, instead of wasting money on other stupid things. I just got out of hospital here in Sydney, after having had prostate cancer surgery & my recovery has been very traumatic, given all the blood passing in the urine, BUT i can still find time for this & it makes me so grateful that at least I'm cared for. My life isn't at risk. I'm 56, but these people on these tiny boats are so young & they deserve a chance to grow old & experience all that i have experienced, without dying a tragic death in wild oceans. Much love to you for doing this video. 💕💕💕💕 We can all help financially or by raising awareness. Good luck to all those seeking a fairer more stable life.

You guys are such an inspiration on every level! In September last year I did a minor programme in disruptive events for half a year. Most people see natural disasters like a earthquake or tsunami as a disruptive event, but refugees in every type of way are in a disruptive event as well. We did a small research on refugee camp Moria in Greece. I hope this video will make more people aware of what is happening and how they can help. Thank you is the least I can say

I live in Phuket, Thailand. There were once we saw refugee boat came from Myanmar, they were Rohingya and wants to go to Malaysia. Their boat so small, no props, no engine etc. they got only two paddles. Boat was full with men, women and children, they had a very strong mind and strong will to go to Malaysia. We couldn't do anything more than gave them fresh water and food and pray for them to have safe journey to wherever they want to go.
It would only be a cliche if influencers normally used their following to help others. But because the norm is only influencers trying to sell you merchandise it's sadly not a cliche. This is a highly emotive topic at the moment for many countries. Living in Britain there is a notion that the migrants travelling across the English Channel are economic migrants as they have travelled through several ‘safe’ mainland European countries in which they could have claimed asylum.
Because they are.
A good point Fernandez. Britain has amazing benefits that make people want to come from other European countries to the UK.
Just look at the mess what is on the coast of calais. people entering illegal to the UK . they just should do the same as italy and close everthing so they wont get on the sea

I’ve got two refugees (7 year olds) in my class in the Uk and watching this breaks my heart. They tell me about the boat they travelled in and some of what happened but watching this really brings it to life. They are so determined to learn English and absorb as much as learning as they can ♥️
It's amazing how much more they value education than many of the kids from the land they've settled in.
It’s crazy. The little girl is so cute she writes down all our maths questions and new words so she can remember them!

So refreshing for me to get a real world perspective on this subject. Where I work and live, in Denmark and Sweden, there is a large part of the population and politicians that spread hate and disgust towards these people that needs help. It’s great to see the perspective of someone that is not influenced by an environment of years of hatred against refugees. This is one of the most important videos you made. Thanks.

It's not a simple question. Many years ago I worked among the rural poor in Africa.A small number of them were interested in improving their situation where they were, but many believed the grass was greener somewhere else.

There are literally MILLIONS more people in Africa who would like to go to Europe. Should they ALL be able to have that "difference" made in their lives? Face reality.
You are absolutely right, just them getting in the boat is reason enough to see them as 'worthy of refugee status'. They just want a better life and you are giving them that chance. Thank you thank you for bringing these issues to light on your platform and sharing this information.

Big point. Bravo
They are absolutely human trafficking operations whether the people left on their own will or not it was forced by manufactured pressures that are tied to globalist elite

They are! It is big business profiting on a very sad situation with desperate peoples lives. True, you are assisting desperate people, bur also putting money in the hands of criminal networks. The more people you help, the better the business.... and there are millions waiting in Africa.
Of course it has to do with human trafficking, do you think its possible to flee without relying on human traffickers? But what does that in fact change?
You made think about these refuges and i love the fact that you are dealing with great souls. And god saved the souls you did not find on the boat i,m so sorry for the lost life,s. and the lady you showed has the most beautiful soul. And everyone on bored gives their heart and soul to protect these family,s GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
I salute you sir!
the people on the boats don't get to decide whether their desperate act for a better life is legal or illegal.
I pray for a day we can figure out the answers and the day we have the enforced right / ability to put the good people in “power”
Even though this drawn out moment feels like the end of the world, we will rise up. That’s what all of this is actually about... It’s not their agenda’s “great reset”, but our universe’s *great awakening*
We will rise.

So, I've never before commented on any of your videos. Just because I did not feel like I had anything interesting to say beyond telling you how much I love your videos, and other viewers did way better jobs in expressing that. However, today I feel like I have to say something. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Not just for the weekly entertainment that I always look forward to and enjoy so much, but also for using your platform for such an important issue. I'm in my early twenties and seeing you guys do both caring for yourselves and then trying to make the world a little better for others as well is very inspiring to me. After your Atlantic crossing with Greta I could not have thought of something that would make me love you more, but you with that video you did it! Cheers guys for being the lovely humans you are!!
The openness to education, learning and teachings others you guys continue to show in your channel time and time again is remarkable. You could choose to live a quiet comfortable cushy life without pushing the boundaries that not only exist on land and sea but also in our minds, but instead you challenge these, and push people to learn more about things we could otherwise look past and decide are not our problems. Amazing people with amazing stories to tell.
Exactly
Right! There is more than just tensions between countries in Europe, not to mention a massive increase in crime rates.
Thank you, thank you so much for sharing this! My husband is a Syrian refugee, he took the route from Egypt to Italy by boat. Thanks guys for shining a light on this story, it has vanished from main stream media over the last years.
Why don’t the coast guard tag the boat they have rescued? Ais would be ideal but maybe expensive. Even just some recognisable spray paint so that volunteers know the can move on and look elsewhere
The empty boat did have a date spray painted, 29 11 20 i think. No idea who put it there though.
Looked to me like a good opportunity to pick up a couple gently used outboards.
Nobody gambles their child's life because the chance of rescue is higher. You gamble your child's life because it's the last bet you have.

Beautifully said!
Well done.
Haha, sorry, the bleeding heart “compassion” on display in this video IS the most popular view. It’s also a view held by those devoid of understanding
@@krantzjerry I’d make that bet as well
20:22 This gentleman in his designer clothing, smart phone and expensive watch is not a refuge, he is an economic migrant. His country needs him at home working and building up the economy. It is heart breaking people are drowning at sea but the way to stop the deaths is returning them so others so the massive risk is pointless. People taking their children on open boats across the sea should be prosecuted for endangering children.

You are from Australia, do you know how your country treats the boat-refugees there ???
That is true, but that doesnt mean they have anything to do with their governments. And Australia is lucky enough to have these 3 to promote their country.
We send them home. And rightly so.

Kudos to you guys for covering this! It brings the brutal reality of the plight of these refugees, So sad!! :-(
I agree with the guy who said that this is treating symptoms.
You guys are some special people. So kindhearted and it is felt here even through a screen. Thanks for everything you guys do.

As an environmental student that had no clue about the major impacts of these events I learned quickly that I needed to become more knowledgeable about these types of situations.
