Hi Chris, Happy Halloween from Iowa! I have had several experiences in the bluffs along the Mississippi River north of this Girl Scout Camp. I have heard the primal screams, loud tree cracking, and also the howls. Some of these were in the area of Yellow River State Forest and Effigy Mounds State Monument. There are numerous burial mounds in this area along the river from "mound" people that predated the Native American tribes we know from recent history. Sent you a photo of a "spirit bird" that I accidentally captured on a photo while camping in this area. I feel these beings are existing around these mounds. They are angry and trying to scare people away.

I'd recommend an Ad Blocker extension but it seems not all of those work on TH-cam anymore. I have 2 or 3 blockers, myself, but the one specifically for YT doesn't seem to work anymore. You can tell when you look up your extensions and see one is "greyed" or "whited" out. Oh well, we'll see. Usually, the blocks YT implements don't work forever. There are workarounds for virtually everything YT does.

Sounds like Mossyback. I was a Boy Scout in eastern Iowa back in the early to mid-70's. The story of Mossyback was always told once during every summer camp, and yes, he always travelled by way of the streams, creeks and even the Wapsipinicon River. Mossyback was just, someone or something that looked like it had moss growing on it's back or maybe not...? Just an old Boy Scout campfire tale, but you never know...

I went to Girl Scout camp in the late '70s where we had those platform tents. Coming from camping with family since I was a small child in an actual tent that was sealed and zippered up, I found it quite primitive. And I'm guessing they did too, because they would provide us with mosquito nets that went over our bunks so that we wouldn't get eaten alive at night. We would have to go into the woods and fetch our own sticks to use as supports for our nets on the four corners of our bunks. I recall one night seeing a mouse run down one of my sticks! Any critter - or anyone - could enter, because it was literally a platform with a canvas draped over it. 😧
Scary story for sure. Really weird though that the ladies spent the night in their tent rather than the lodge on that last night. Why the heck have police officers sleeping in a lodge that is down the trail from the tents? Defeats the purpose of having then their in the first place.
Loved the 10 least favorite candies. Really made me laugh. So funny. Now for the story. So glad the girls stayed safe there and went home okay. Having the rangers come out and stay the night was a good idea. Not good if the camp owners/managers were covering up such a potentially dangerous situation. Maybe that camp isn't there anymore, but the area is. At any rate, really good story, Chris. Nice atmosphere in the tent with the pumpkin. Couldn't hear the owl, but that must've added to the ambiance for you. I love hearing owls.I can sympathize about the pumpkin beer. I was walking around the undeveloped hill tops south of Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1972. It was early Fall with lots of leaves about. I was making a lot of noise crashing around in the leaves, enjoying the fact that I was in a spot on top of the hills where not many people ever ventured. Suddenly I had a feeling of dread, almost as if the sunlight shining on the leaves was somehow evil. I was so surprised at these unexpected dreadful feelings, I walked out of the area and back down to the neighborhood along Madison Street. I didn't know anything about the habits of Bigfoot back then, but sometimes I wonder if that had anything to do with my feelings of dread and evil. I've since learning that Bf does inhabit the Loess Hills area close to Council Bluffs, Iowa.👣
