Momo the Monster, also known as the Missouri Monster (Momo), is a purported ape-like creature, similar to descriptions of Bigfoot, that was allegedly sighted by numerous people in rural Louisiana, Missouri in 1971 and 1972.[1] Unlike some other areas with similar reports of cryptids such as the Fouke Monster in Fouke, Arkansas or the Moth Man in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, Momo did not become a major tourist or economic folklore attraction.

I live alone in rural far-east Texas. Three sides of my place are thick woods. A couple of times late at night I’ve heard some SCARY howls coming from those woods. I kinda laughed and said to myself, “Sasquatch,” but then I noticed that the people up the road have a huge Sasquatch ironwork statue in their yard. Lol. Kinda makes me wonder. 😂

I lived in Tyler, out in the country of Smith County. I also heard some wild, creepy sounds out in the woods there. I thought maybe it was the wild pigs that are everywhere in that area, or bulls. But honestly, I don't think it was those animals. It made my hair stand on end and gave me chills.

I grew up in Southwest Missouri in the Ozarks. Ten years old almost asleep I rolled over in bed and outside my window was a 9ft tall monster. It was a full moon slightly above and behind it. It traumatized me badly. It almost made me go insane. I stopped going outside at night and stopped playing in the woods. This happened over 40 years ago and I haven't gone into any woods and I sleep with blackout curtains so nothing can see in.

I live about 45 miles south of St. Louis on a short dead-end road surrounded by woods on three sides, and we're about 10 miles from the Mississippi. I drive a big truck and park it just up from the house. To start with, I'm not scared of the dark at all and don't get spooked very easily. I've always had a really good sense of feeling when someone gets behind me. Even working in a load environment and wearing earplugs, I could feel when someone would walk up behind me and turn around and catch them before they could pat me to let me know they were there. One night, a few hours after I had gotten home, I realized I had left my phone in the truck. It was a pretty dark night, and I remember as I made the turn on to the road, I was thinking I should have grabbed a flashlight because I was looking straight down and could barely see where I was walking. We don't smoke in the house, so my girlfriend came out onto the porch to smoke while I retrieved my phone. I suddenly got that feeling someone was behind me. I knew it wasn't her because I would have heard her. I stopped, leaving my feet planted, I turned my upper body to try and see who or what it was. I stood there for a couple of minutes before she hollered to see what I was doing because she didn't hear me walking. At first, I was thinking someone up to know good was standing out there. So I hollered to her to grab a light and my pistol, thinking it would scare them off. When she ran in, I stood still so I could try and hear which direction they were going to move in. As I could hear her coming towards the door, I turned my whole body, and I heard a stick snap as it was stepped on. As she came out the door, I started walking at a strong pace towards the house. At that point, whatever it was started moving through the woods at a very fast pace away from me, just crashing through the woods. Very loudly. It scared her so bad that she panicked and was fighting to get the door opened that she had just closed behind her. Needless to say, at this point, I'm at a dead run for the porch, which I'm sure didn't help her nerves any. Lol. I grabbed the light and the gun from her and ran to the edge of the yard, shining the light to try and get a glimpse of whatever it was. I stood there for a while, but whatever it was was gone. I went on to the truck and retrieved my phone. The next morning, I went out into the woods to try and see any signs of what it was, but with the leave coverage on the ground, I never found anything. Now I'm not saying it was Mo-mo, but whatever it was, it had to be pretty good-sized to crash through the woods the way it did. As you can imagine, my heart was thumping pretty good at the time, and once I calmed down, I realized that I couldn't see anything in front of me, even after my eyes had time to adjust, so I don't believe a man could have ran that fast through the dense woods as dark as it was. Secondly, I realized that little pistol probably would have just pissed it off. But hey, it still made me feel better. Lol

I live in central Missouri. My ex husband thinks he had an experience with MoMo. Before we met and started dating, he was camping at Pine Ridge Camping ground in Callaway County Missouri. It’s a heavily forested area, huge pine trees, we all just called it “the Pines.” Anyway, him and a group of his buddies were camping there one night. They did the usual - eat, have some beers, chill around the campfire. He said they were up until about one am and decided to go to bed, all to their respective tents. He fell asleep and woke up about two hours later when he heard footfalls in the woods behind his tent. That area is a deer highway so he just figured it was a herd moving through. Then he said the crunch crunch of the footsteps was HEAVY. And getting closer. Kind of freaked out now, he woke up fully and listened intently. He said his pulse started racing and he was all of a sudden just riddled with fear. The steps would crunch every couple of minutes or so, like whatever was approaching the camp ground was going very slowly and meticulously. He then heard what sounded like something sniffing. Not grunting like deer, something audibly sniffing - MUCH closer to the tent now then it was seconds before. Then everything stopped. My ex said he wondered if maybe it was a black bear since we have those in Missouri, though at that time in the late 90s, pretty rare. He said after a few minutes of silence he finally got the nerve up to unzip the “window” on the tent on the side facing the woods. He unzipped a small corner and looked out with his flashlight and scanned the tree line, which was about 20 yards away. He said he saw nothing. He scanned a few more times, still didn’t see anything and decided maybe it was one of the guys messing with him. So, he unzipped the front of the tent and got out and looked around. All of his buddies were passed out in their tents. Still kind of freaked out but convinced whatever it was had moved on, he went back to his tent, zipped up, and went back to sleep. About ten minutes later, as he was sleeping (his head on the side facing the woods, all of a sudden there was an enormous THUD and a MASSIVE HAND pressed down on and INTO the side of the tent. He EXPLODED out of his sleep - he said the force was SO hard it actually bent the tent pole on that side. He could actually see the imprint of the ENORMOUS hand pushing down and come within inches of his face but never actually touched him. And just as soon as it all happened, it stopped. The hand on the tent retracted and everything went quiet. No sound, no footsteps walking away. Just GONE. My ex said he had never been that scared in his entire life. He laid there eyes wide open in terror until the sun came up. He finally got out of his tent and walked around. Everyone was still passed out and there were zero footprints or any type of sign of anything disturbing their camp, everything was left as it was. With the exception of the bent tent pole, there was zero evidence it happened. He confirmed later with his friends it was definitely not them. They laughed at him and gave him grief of course like friends do, and said he probably pissed off MoMo because he snores too loud. Sorry so long, but his friends actually backed up that story and insisted years and years later it wasn’t one of them playing a joke. Ryan, my ex, chalked it up to having a close encounter with MoMo. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m used to the woods in Pennsylvania. Years ago I traveled and camped in rural Missouri near Springfield and I was struck by how dense the woods were compared to Eastern PA. It was like the PA woods on steroids. It seemed much more wild and in parts impenetrable. It was June, hot and humid and the sound of locusts filled the air. I believe Missouri also has much more robust wildlife population including black bear, cougars, wild hogs, beaver, etc, and lots of deer. Perfect habitat for Sasquatch.

    • @anthonyaubuchon765
      @anthonyaubuchon765 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I live here in Missouri, and yes, some areas are very dense. But I've been to the state of Washington, and I have to say, the forest there is so dense in places that you can only see a couple feet past the treeline. You could literally be standing a few feet from something and never see it. I know some people wholeheartedly believe they exist, and I'm not one to say they don't. For me, I would think someone would have found bones are something by now. My girlfriend believes they are an Indian spirit, which would explain why nobody has found real prof. I don't know. I'm not a skeptic, but I just don't know one way or another. I know there are several states with dense enough woods or forests that something could stay hidden. I mean, after all, as you mentioned, here in Missouri, we have bears and cougars, and I've never actually seen one of those either. Well I did find tracks of a cougar and of a small deer that it was chasing. I was able to follow them enough to find the carcass of the deer. That'll raise the hair on the back of your neck.

Lived in the Murphysboro, IL, in the late 70's. Had 2 personal encounters with them being on or near my property on Lake Kincade and encounters with several friends. One man was camping in the Shawnee National Forest located all over that area with a campfire going. Suddenly rocks and heavy limbs started falling into his campsite. He'd heard strange noises around him shortly before chaos erupted along with a terrible odor. He beat a hasty retreat and never camped again. This area has lots of lakes, rivers and creeks along with the forest. It's also just a few miles from the Mississippi River. Locals told of many such encounters including some about a white monster who I believe they called the Big Muddy Creek monster, a creek there in Murphysboro.

We used to have a ranch in Missouri that was bordered by the Mark Twain National Forest and there was something that made sounds like the ones captured in the Sierra Mountains. When you went extremely deep into the forest by horseback many times you would come across trees shoved upside down into the ground which seemed to mark their territory. Where these trees were shoved into the ground it would be impossible for any human to shove them into the ground because of how hard and rocky the earth was.

@Base Camp Chris I'm just curious if anyone else has ever come across a place where trees were shoved into the ground like I was talking about? When I was growing up I was raised by my Grandfather since I was 5 years old and from him and my Great Uncle on down to my uncle's, cousins and myself my family has about 40 people who have worked in the Government with numerous Clearances or have been in SF then worked within the Government so we've had access and knowledge about many diverse topics so I really never saw a time that had my Grandfather perplexed, but the one time that he was happened on this property. My Grandfather and Great Uncle were two of the largest Ranchers, Farmers and Agribusinessmen in the Country with properties in 13 States and many of them being pretty large properties. If I remember correctly we had unexplainable incidents and sightings on properties in 7-8 States. The property in Missouri was a smaller property consisting of about 2500 acres but felt much larger with the National Forest being on 3 sides. Even though we had properties that were much larger it probably was number 3 or 4 for having incidents on the weird shitometer scale. The incident that happened that had my Grandfather perplexed happened when my cousin and I were on horses rounding up cattle that had gotten out when the back fence on the side of the mountain suddenly had about 10-15 ft go missing, that's right missing. I'd been on that property and beyond for miles since I 8 years old and knew every inch blindsided. However on this day as we were pushing the cattle around the side of the mountain it suddenly seemed like everything was distorted and blurry then neither of us had a clue where we were and we were both sick to our stomach for some reason. For some reason we couldn't tell where the sun was to get our bearings straight so we kept the cattle moving unable to recognize a single thing. This might be explainable if it was just one of us but I'd been all over the area for 10 years and he'd been all over it for 22 years there was no way one of us shouldn't have known where we were. We kept pushing the cattle through the blurry terrain when we suddenly came out on a roadway and even though we both knew where we were it would've been impossible for us to get there. This was because we somehow ended up on the backside of the mountain about 75-85 miles by road away from our range. We drove the cattle about 2 miles up the road to a Ranchers place that was friends with my Grandfather who ask4ed what in the hell we were doing there and how in the hell did we get there? When my Grandfather and Great Uncle arrived with trucks and trailers to get us and the cattle we sat around for hours trying to figure out what happened. The only way for us to have gotten to where we were at would've been for us to somehow ride through the middle of the mountain. When we explained everything that happened my Grandfather made some calls and some people came out took our statements, had us bring them to the area where the fence was missing and to the last place we remembered before things went haywire. They stayed out there for 4-5 days doing some type of testing then packed up and left. Years later when I was working with the Government I ran into one of the guys who was on the Team that came out and I asked him if they experienced anything and if they found out anything. He told me that was one of the weirdest cases he'd ever worked, telling me he couldn't say much because it was classified so I needed to read the documents myself but they had camped in 2 places right where fence had disappeared and where everything went sideways then each night they were there and 2 of the days something would happen where the Team in one camp couldn't find or communicate with the other and their surroundings were unreasonable for long periods at a time. I found out that 6 more Teams had went back through the years with some of them having experiences and some not. I can't elaborate any more but would like to know if anyone has ever experienced anything like this and let everyone know that people need to be extra careful on large properties and especially on any properties owned by the Government. It's been my experience that the Government typically owns properties where the unexplainable things happen or have something to do with them because they want to monitor what happens. Thank you for your channel.

His comment about the hand pressing on the tent reminded me of the time I was camping with friends up in the mountains of Montana. They had a small gold claim along a narrow creek. I went to bed in a tiny tent and slept well until dawn when I felt a 'hand' press against the tent and push on my back. I froze and then turned my face to the tent side and watched as a large 'something' plopped against the tent's canvas again. This time I quickly crawled out the tent ready for battle and discovered it was the biggest toad I'd ever seen trying to hop over the tent! LOL!

I live in nw Missouri. I saw something once with a friend near “grindstone” (look up grindstone Cameron mo) in 1998. Going out to grindstone (a resivour) -is a long curvy gravel road-it had to be before midnight (my curfew) -we were on our way back to the highway on this gravel road and some thing ran in front of my car-larger then a grown man, covered in fur, running on all fours up this curved hill. We sat saying nothing to each other until we hit the highway. I asked him if he saw that-and he said he was going to ask me the same. We knew it was crazy. I told my family and we chalked it up to a bear. When I saw this title-I had to watch. Lol-there’s more then one mo mo-but I’ve never heard of mo mo before- but totally believe Kevin.

Love these stories..I would listen to the whole interview.. I really love hearing every detail possible. These stories fill the mind with so much wonder.. I was on a late night hike one time, and out of nowhere a little bird made a tweet or sound..just one..then silent..I felt it was alerting me to something. I keep walking but stayed cautious.. and about 8 to 10 min later a huge crunch of a log happened right behind me on the ground..the sound was so heavy it instantly wiped out mountain cat, deer.. and I didn't feel like it was a bear.. I did not turn around.. in fact my 2nd instant thought after it obliterated common forest animal's.. was do not look back keep walking.. I was terrified but kept my mind blank best I could.. I heard no other movement I made it safe out 20min later.. I relate to him hearing that sound of heaviness not matching up.. I wont ever willingly go on a forest night hike again.. I often wonder what was right behind me.. so scary..

Thanks Chris for this story by Kevin. On face value I frankly believe its all true. Quite an experience. Someone making up a sasquatch or MoMo experience wouldnt be telling it this way. The fact that Kevin says he did not see it further verifies the veracity of this experinece in my book. This experience if true further exemplifies one of the more odd behaviors of sasquatch....up rooting trees and on occasion throwing them. In this case the tree was partially uprooted and pushed into the direction of Kevin. All in all the audio of Kevin tells me he had a real experience as described. Thanks again !!!!!!!!!!

    Chris,
You, my friend, surely made my Sunday morning by posting this, your next and newest video; I loved it - all about the "Momo" monster! You've got an audible recording of the likely "Momo" (however indirect since he only heard it, though nonetheless, i'd say that counts!) witness along with newspaper articles from "Momo"'s legendary past haunting therein your featured historical Missouri town! And said town is exactly where our given witness originates from to this day, is it not?! Great stuff!!
You're becoming an excellent chronicler of history/field journalist and researcher, raising the research bar, seemingly everyday, in your videos, and giving us greater and greater stories with now further substantiative and supporting/background information offered!! It really makes these - already very interesting - stories you tell even more fascinating! Well done!
Thank you so much, Chris, for providing us twofold in great history/information as well as entertainment. The two aspects serve to highlight the other, making for ever-resounding stories told, stories that really leave an impression on your audience members, if, I, myself, as part of that audience, may offer a worthy testimonial, that is!!
Myself and my pet hedgehog, Buggles, really look forward to your work. And Buggles, like me, listen and watch intently to everything you have to say/everything you've doing amid every hiking adventure or whatever you're up to. And, like many others, heartily appreciate all that you have to offer. Congratulations on over 80,000 (80k) subscribers and counting. You'll be in the millions before you know it, sir!!!
Please continue to travel safe, smart, and soundly, my friend!!! Two-thousand twenty-three (2023) = continually onward and upward!!! We're humbled by all your excellent work!!
    Most Sincerely,
    Martin & Buggles

What's fascinating about this report is that I had a tree come down in a swamp directly on me while I sat in my kayak taking a video of the swamp. It was a huge pine tree, maybe 70 feet tall. The top of the tree landed right on me, pushing my kayak down, and filling it with water. I frantically tried to push myself away from the thick branches in which I was entangled, finally freeing myself. I then laboriously paddled back to the launch site completely soaked. Because of the weight of the water in the kayak it was hard to drag it up the steep embankment far enough to empty out the water. This occurred sometime in the 90's in Mountain Brook Reservoir, just south of Jaffrey, NH. I chalked up the tree fall to an easterly wind that was blowing, and the roots of trees bordering the swamp being waterlogged. But on an earlier kayak ride in this reservoir, I had gone to the very tip of the northern branch of the reservoir, where Mountain Brook entered. As I was exploring the rocky terrain I was shocked to see a 'scat' comprised of a huge pile of 'sausage links' each about 10 inches long, and almost 2 inches in diameter. Realizing, whatever made that pile might still be around, I hurried back to my kayak and pushed off into the water. There was quite a sense of relief as I distanced myself from that shoreline and returned to my car parked just off Rte 202, a north-south main road. I'm not really familiar with animal scat, so never figured out what could have dumped that pile.

@@anthonyaubuchon765 I have read stories where sasquatch were heard laughing when they scared humans, so the probably do have a sense of humor. When I turned around to see the tree falling I didn't see anything that might have pushed it. And the wind was definitely going in the direction of fall. So, while, I can accept that it was just the result of the wind, I'm still mystified as to what could have made that sausage link, giant scat pile.

Thank you, I enjoy listening to weird experiences people have. Something which jumped out at me was you said this guy got such a fright that he eventually turned back again to The Lord. This is what often happens to people when they have a potential life-threatening experience, they think deeply about what really matters and get to grips with what they know deep down is the most important thing of all, and that's acknowledging God and seeking Him out. I had a near death experience and this is what happened to me, I turned to The Lord. There's so much about this Creation we don't understand, but one thing which we do all understand is that one day, each of us at one time or another, will stop breathing and die, but we don't cease to exist. Our Spirit (who we are) leaves our body and our body returns to the ground - see Psalm 146:4. We will forever exist in the Spirit realm, but it's important to understand that it's either good or bad depending on whether we choose God or choose to reject Him in this life. See John 3:7, this is the most important thing to choose in this life, before we stop breathing. Seek out a Born-Again Christian Fellowship and ask about it, this will be the greatest step you have ever taken in your life folks. Trust me on this. Thanks for the videos.

Chris, you said this was gonna be a good year, well you sure are knocking it out of the park with this story & interview. Can you imagine the strength of these creatures to uproot that size tree, the only thing that could have made it worse is if it was a Dogman. Awesome show, thx
