You missed one ending. There’s a variation of ending 1 if you fail to fight Alu and kill Lisa; instead of agreeing to become Garcia’s student, John declines, but then Garcia aims his shotgun at him and forces him into the car.
I got that one 😭😭😭😭
Get in the car, Hijo.
Why does he do that
@@brain_cell Cause John is the only other priest capable of fighting demons. John needed some convincing, so Father Garcia "kindly" asks him to get into the car.

I love the detail in the endings where if you don't fight the true boss, a miserable John joins Garcia, with no other options, as a student and sits in the backseat; but in the best ending he chooses to join him as equals, and they sit together in the front to face down whatever comes as a team.
And if you got the worst of the good endings Garcia will threaten John with the shotgun and force him to ride with him

god there is something so uncanny about how simplistic this game feels after you experience the jaw-dropping animations. they truly feel out of place, to the point where they stop feeling "wrong" and start feeling scary, evil
Changing the artistic medium to make something look unnatural is very powerful, the janky low pixel count to the lifelike movements is unnerving
tbh it just makes me think of a Joel Haver skit, and I expect the monster to tell me he pooped his butt out of his whole butt
@@TemmiePlays Adventure awaits.. Huzzah!
nail on the hammer. this game always makes me feel grossed out and weird. honestly i love horror and tip my hat to this game but it does feel too dark and evil especially in the drastic change in simple 8-bit to gruesome 8-bit detailed art and human sacrifice & satanic symbols. just makes me feel dirty lol i think it’s a good game tho very interesting story and lore
I'm sure most of us already know it's rotoscoping but mixing pixels with life-like animation just feels so unnerving.
The part when rain washes the blood away in the end was soo cool, like the demonic influence and his history finally being over and behind him.
I can't believe the most evil thing about Gary isn't the fact that he's a creepy demon thing, but a landlord to top it off
Plot twist: every landlord is a demon

That's so you know Gary is SUPER evil, not just regular evil.

Father Garcia's entrance is probably my favorite moment in the series especially after being built up over 3 games.
The way he arrives by shooting Gary in the head, and then standing like Archangel Michael with his sword of fire, announcing himself like an angel, "Don't be afraid!"
Through practically the whole game (And the series) you've dealt with helpless victims, babies, mental patients, expectant mothers, preschoolers, impressionable and drugged out youth, grooming victims, people outnumbered. You yourself are rather helpless, save for your faith, and in this chapter you're more helpless than ever more often as you lose your cross and get strapped to a medical stretcher, etc, and so when Father Garcia shows up with a shotgun and blasts Gary announcing himself with a "Don't be afraid!" it's like an angel descending upon you, flaming sword in hand, and finally all that helplessness has turned around, a truly righteous warrior of God, who knows evil must die, that which profanes against the Holy Spirit being beyond salvation and is to be slain with God's wrath.
It is just so cool, these games always creep me out and make me jumpy but Father Garcia dispelled all that jumpiness and fear, and then the ending where John decides to join him to kill demons, it's so perfect, faith shining bright, the devil's trickery overcome, and John's fear and giving in to the temptations and pleading with the devil, destroyed, and Father Garcia teaming up with an empowered and faithful John, to basically become a duo of Doom slayers. It's just so hype, it's so worth it.
That, and John setting himself ablaze to finally end the unholy trinity, with his extreme and fervent faith, the flames not harming him as he carries out God's work, are just perfect touches.

Because he is a landlord obviously
I love that one note where there's the other evil priest trying to summon Lovecraftian horrors, and Gary's response like "nah, dawg, Cthulhu is cool and all, but Satan is where it's at!"
This third game, the finale to FAITH, had a lot riding on it. Development took a fair amount of time, and that demo only raised people's expectations. As far as I'm concerned, those expectations were met and exceeded. This is such a good final chapter to this story. Great tension, weird boss fights (who expected the babies?), the expected incredibly bleak bad ending, and some true hope in the good endings. It's downright impressive. John and Manly have looked the devil in the eye and wondered why they didn't just use the shotgun from the start. Airdorf, you did spectacular.
Bullets are semi-effective against SOME Demons and Possessed. Others are immune
The good endings had poorly written dialogue for a closer, the bad ending is better imo. Still a good game throughout

Little details in the car ride between Ending 2 and 1 - in endings 2, John readily drives the car. Ending 1, since he hasn't experienced and tested his faith enough to have believed in himself, he's still shaken up and affected by the trauma, which is why father Garcia has to drive while he sits in the back.
I also like the little explanation as to why John moves slow as hell. It's such a small detail but makes so much sense.
Wait why does he move slow?
@@enyomi.i6353 In ending 3, the medical note in Amy's room mentions an injury from his childhood to his leg or knee (idr which) that affects his mobility.
@@enyomi.i6353 third ending's medical details, right knee injury from childhood
Also in ending 1: They go to Garcia's station wagon...so also why John isn't driving. You don't drive another Priest's station wagon. :3c
Manly missed an ending that adds to what you said.
It only happens if you get no secret bosses and let Lisa die.
Garcia basically forces John to join him at gunpoint.

@@oblivionmaker3576 maybe it's because that part took place in a hospital, and the original loss comic was about a guy asking for directions in a hospital
You forgot one ending variation. If you do the neutral path where you block the profane sabbath using the coffin, you can either go with Garcia willingly, or Garcia will raise his shotgun at you and force you to go fight demons because you lost willpower.
Or maybe cuz the demon might still be in John.

That ending screen where John is completely covered in blood saying "Amen" is so badass.
That was badass as fuck ngl
I love the trembling hands, his newly Gilded crucifix shaking as if thrumming with all of his pain, and fear, and reforged faith.
It’s such a profound and beautiful ending.
This game never ceases to amaze me when John picks up the note 2:24:25 in the room where he keeps Amy it says on that he has some sort of injury on one of his legs that remains to hinder his walking and it makes SOO much sense as to why his movement speed is so slow. The attention to detail is absolutely amazing I can’t.
remember,
In chapter 2 where Miriam teleports behind you and approaches, Father Garcia comes to save the (nightmare?). Back in Chapter 3 when you beat Gary in his more human form, he does almost the same thing as Miriam and gets shot.
I always thought his walking animations looked slightly off as well, like they were uneven - he seems to sway to the left and right much more than the other characters
1:30:31 Fun fact, JOHN, The Priest actually killed all those people. The blood trail entering that place leads back to him, Also if you stay for a little longer you can hear one of the cultists say "The Holy Man", and there's also the word "REPENT" on the wall. The fact he did all of that because of Gary's injection is terrifying
How do you figure that?
Well, Gary said his injection will make people stronger so they can become the vessel for the creature and unspeakable, in other word, it is possible that the injection can bring people into berserk mode
Thus, the question is not how we figure that out, but how Gary even survive John in berserk mode
It's like the scene with Jason in far cry 3 where after the main boss fight you come to and everyone fucking died
@@MAT20228 You can see him get the injection and turn from blue to red with his eyes enlarged. It is his berserk mode.

Damnatio memoriae is a modern Latin phrase meaning "condemnation of memory", indicating that a person is to be excluded from official accounts. Depending on the extent, it can be a case of historical negationism. There are and have been many routes to damnatio memoriae, including the destruction of depictions, the removal of names from inscriptions and documents, and even large-scale rewritings of history. The term can be applied to other instances of official scrubbing; in history the practice is seen as long ago as the aftermath of the reign of the Egyptian Pharaohs Akhenaten in the 14th century BC, and Hatshepsut in the 15th century BC.

This was it. This was the moment Amy died, and just as he swore, he will carry the burden of his failure for the rest of his life.
This is why Ending 2 was so important, the details in everything from the blood being washed off of him to Lisa returning to his life. He's finally free, and as was promised, he can finally go back home in peace. This game also reveals why Lisa is so important - she's been there with him from the beginning.
That girl faced down hell itself to stay by him. Her response to being possessed and almost murdered by her savior wasn't to run or break down. She stood there and told him to shake it off, then just had a cigarette after like she just had sex. You don't walk away from that.

Fun fact: Malphas the 39th demon of the Ars Goetia, is as a mighty Great President of Hell, with 40 legions of demons under his command and is second in command under Satan. He appears as a raven, but if requested, will instead resemble a man with a hoarse voice. Malphas is said to build houses, high towers and strongholds, throw down the buildings of the enemies, destroy the enemies' desires or thoughts and all that they have done, give good familiars, and quickly bring artificers together from all places of the world. Malphas accepts willingly and kindly any sacrifice offered to him, but then he will deceive those who summoned him.
My theory suggested that Gary is actually Purson in human flesh.
Purson (pronounced "person") the 20th demon of the Ars Goetia, is as a King of Hell. He sees into the past, present, and future and can even see into the secrets of anyone he chooses. Purson never lies. He will answer all questions truthfully and with his visionary powers that leaves very little subject matter untouchable. The demon king also gives familiar spirits to conjurers that he favors to help in their practice of magic and ritual.
Evidence :
In the game it is reveal that Gary originates form Hell and was send to prepared the arrival of the Antichrist together with Malphas. (in 1:51:42)
Other than that, Gary is the name that were given to him after his arrival. (in 2:00:09)

Your commentary on the player character and the player hardening over the duration of the series is why all horror game franchises eventually become action horror if they have the same protag. Player agency is key in video games and violence is a method of achieving and expressing agency. People fight, it's what they do. A person eventually becomes numb to the fear and starts getting angry. Eventually, you're going to do enough steroids to kill a bull and start punching boulders.

The Godlike figure that appeared at the Martin house calls John “son of man” so he could be the literal second coming of Christ
@@electricwasterbruh no lol

The son of man can refer to just about anyone. If they were referring to Christ they would use the term from the exorcism prayer, or son of god.
Second thing, if Christ came down the second time, the bible says he would return to judge people. To judge people he can’t be a human. Because to do so would be hypocrisy.
Honestly, if I were to be transported into a horror game, I'd pray to god that Manlybadasshero isn't the player controlling me, because DAMN the guy has no sense of self-preservation and would probably walk me into the monster.

Awesome final chapter! I found a neat (maybe new) secret death in the apartments:
I was inputting the elevator code needed to fight Tiffany and when I got for floor 5, a purple lady was waiting behind the elevator door when it opened and casually stood at the door. I regained control of John again, but when I moved she instantly ran at me and jumpscared me (like, actual jumpscare) and I died. I have no idea if she can be survived or what exactly triggered it, since when I tried to recreate it I couldn't get her to appear again, as the code just worked as it should. From my understanding, I believe this wasn't in the demo? Not sure, that was a while ago and I'm too lazy to confirm it.
I wonder how many more secrets are left though. Good video as always Manly!
Thats a reference to the actual elevator game where it says that a woman will get on the elevator with you at a certain moment and if you acknowledge her in any way she will “make you hers”
@@matthewchen1673 Yep. I think you're supposed to not even have John face her, but raising the cross will definitely doom you. if you encounter her you can survive it by just immediately running back to the elevator panel and going to the first floor immediately. Then also true to the myth she'll ask you where you're going in the creepy text to speech voice. Again you have to not face her.
I think the odds are somewhere 1 in 3 that you'll get her. First few playthroughs I got her every time and when I heard someone else didn't get it I thought their game was glitched lol. Really cool easter egg though and one of the scariest moments in the game
@@rowanmckenzie2342 bruh i got her like 5 times in a row, i didn't know it was possible not to get her
For those who are curious about the half ring of white things around the seal room, it’s either salt or rice, since both are white and they are both used to seal demons in western and eastern mythology respectively ( one of the rings is broken, showing that the seal is broken, but the other one isn’t, showing that the demon hadn’t excaped the room)
I wasn't sure which room at first, it's lisa's apartment room 5a, you can see the ward at e.g. 36:39

I basically recreated the "Kiryu slamming the desk" moment when he said that.
I absolutely love that cover art in the left/right borders. That's so on brand with Atari 2600 games - they'd always have a really over-rendered cover art like that.
I notice a very tiny detail toward the end of the third ending; When John is kneeling in front of Amy in the locked cross room, you can *just* see his hair has a rough texture, where normally it isn't. It's a little thing, but it's a way to visibly show John has had it rough in this ending that others wouldn't think about.
I love it when they actually record the dialogue as it is written and then just filter it into gibberish, but you can faintly make out the words still
Actually, it's entirely synthesized. There's no real voice in the game. It's really well done though, with each voice still being distinct and managing to convey a good amount of emotion.
@@329link Is it similar to certain utaites and Vocaloid? Where yes, a person did voice vowels, consonants, and other sounds but you basically edit the program to sing or say text

@@unknownperson8527 no, those use Concatenation-based Synthesis. The synthesizer used is clearly Formant-based, almost certainly either a TMS52xx series LPC chip or an emulation of one.
The hallucination after Gary jabs you is interesting, because a lot of it's directly lifted from the lyrics to "King of Pain," the song that Airdorf used for one of Chapter III's trailers. A black spot on the sun, a black hat caught in the high tree top, a butterfly caught in a spider's web... it pretty much adapts the whole song. I wonder what any of it means in the context of FAITH's story aside from the musical reference?
It's implied that John killed the cultists in the next room during his trip. Perhaps he needed to be tainted with "innocent" blood in order to be a proper vessal?

@@UCMGTWOClan Exactly! And another verse is “I’m always hoping that you’ll end this reign, but it’s my destiny to be the king of pain”. I think that symbolizes Amy as his ruler and forcing him to be in pain every moment of his life.

I think the phrase "Gary Loves You" is another iteration of the another phrase "God Loves You". But its just replaced so probably Gary is ascending or have ascended to "godhood" somehow.
or its just a lying liar trying to spout empty promises to get people to trust him.
Nope, when Mark played Faith chapter 2 he said in Gary's letter "LOVE, GARY" instead of just Gary so ye, the 3rd chapter is basically 50% LOVE GARY meme
Really makes "GARY DOES NOT LOVE YOU" hit different.
@@videogametalks3108Remember, Gary loves you.
Plus the juxtaposition with threats of gruesome death. Like, yeah, we'll carve out your face and stick a baby in it, but remember that Gary loves you! 😅
Something I noticed between Ending 1 and Ending 2. In ending 1, John is sat behind Father Garcia, in self admittance that he is not as strong as Garcia. In ending 2, if you go hunt some demons with Father Garcia, John is sat up front with him. In facing Amy, and becoming absolute in his FAITH, John became an equal to Garcia.
That's a nice touch.
2:20:16 weird thing to notice but Fr. John is in the back seat in this ending. He's definitely riding alongside Fr. Garcia in the true end.
I guess its cuz John's faith is a bit fading....
And also he's now being tutored by Garcia....so a student following the tacher i guess?
Idk, what do i know anything about visual representation and meaning
@@GengUpinIpin i’d say thats close on the point. He’s at the back seat because his faith is fading, so Fr. Garcia will be his new mentor for that ending. In true end, both have their determination to exorcise and eradicate the demons from the world, hence they ride together
The amount of animations and how high quality they are genuinely astounds me every time. Just from visual presentation alone, this game is fantastic.
They use a technique called rotoscoping which basically means they traced over footage of real actors in motion and then animated the frames together. It's a very simplistic means of animation, but it often can be elegant.
I love how the developer makes use of rotoscoping to make the animated bits feel extremely uncomfortable
Addendum; I love how the first fight with Garry is a priest-to-priest battle, it seems like the pitchfork does the same thing as the cross alongside the added bonus of summoning wacky demon fellas

1:20:14 caught me so off guard- I didn't expect an ultrakill reference there, let alone for manly to not get it lmao
Both games are from the same publisher, seems about fair.
The baby room is downright terrifying. I'd argue it's the scariest part out of all the Faith chapters.
In the first, John going to go finish what he did in the past. The third is a beautiful conclusion to Amy and our questions (for the most part). And the second's John's weird acid-trip of a dream where he sacrifices himself to the devil sometimes.
They definitely added a lot more references and humor this time around. I'm not sure if the humor took away or made more for the game for me, but they were still well-timed jokes that made me laugh. I also kind of like that they did something with the 'player takes too long to do important decision so meta commentary gets involved', and turned that into something that has serious consequences. Since he took too long to make the decision, the chance was stripped away from him.
I think the only reason the fourth wall break was added was so people didn't unintentionally get the worst possible ending, like imagine not knowing you're supposed to use the cross and then the game just stabs you with a ending like that
@@zerobotico2382 True. Thing is, the meta commentary seems to be setup light-heartedly and jokingly, so it'll still subvert people's expectations as they probably wouldn't expect the typical wakcy meta commentary to be a serious warning.

At about 1:38:47, while the Cultist is transforming, Manly hits it with the crucifix and it causes it to transform into the title screen for 'FAITH: the Unholy Trinity.' I think there isn't a thing in the code for it having a damage sprite as well as a transformation sprite, so it transforms into the title screen for a split second.
The “father Garcia’s doomslayer” ending is the perfect ending
1:59:00 fun fact, To the left of the purple box it says dijnn, a kind of demon in arabic. it's not necessarly the demons you would think of in the west however, as the "Dijnn Demons" have many diffrent myths surrounding them.
The most common one being, well, the genie of the lamp. Which isn't really evil, but more magical in nature. however, islam during the time and even today is majorly against any kind of magic, as wielding such power is kind of considered sacrilegious.
The other rumor I remember being that dijnn aren't demons but a being beyond our plain of existance that walk the earth but humans cannot see, but are not guardian angel, seraphim or demons. just something else that humans can't see or comprehend.
The more technically correct translation of demon from english to arabic is "شيطان" pronounced like shaitan. That is the more accurate translation, however, it does mean devil, as in The Devil. I'm just here to share a walking language class because it's fun.
Major props for the dev team for a really well done and detailed series. I usually dislike horror stories that focus on the religious but the team did amazing in making this series very engaging. the rotoscoping of the animations is also very nice. Also thank you manly for being an amazing archiever for indie horror. I've been following you for years (ever since I was 12..I'm twenty now, how time flies) andI wish many years of success for helping artist and devs reach the public.
Well Djinns are beings created with free will, like humans were made of earth, Djinns were made of fire. Iblis, the great "Shaitan" is a Djinn who rebelled against Allah and set out to corrupt humans out of envy.
I can further expand that the hebrew text to the right says "Dibbuk" which is both a type of demon and the hebrew word for "Possession"
Ah shaitan right?
lmao i like how lisa decide to smoke after being possesed and almost killing John.
Gotta take the edge off somehow!
I just realized
There is a reason why Ending 2 has two option
If you save Lisa, you can choose to live your life together
But if you *LET THE DEMON KILLED HER*
The only option is to be the Demon Hunter with Father Garcia. Sort of like an atonement for your sin letting Lisa die.
That's a neat detail.
Nope, it's literally impossible to get ending 2 without saving Lisa, if you let her die you won't be able to fight Tiffany and then won't be able to unlock the Unholy Trinity Seal that guards the true final boss.
@@DioTheGreatOne yeah and don’t forget, the demon never left John after he killed Lisa, and Father Garcia seemed to notice that.
What I love about this game and the ending 2 is that John had believed or described that his faith has been dwindling ever since the nightmares and the encounters he faced
Which is funny, considering not only he exorcises a bunch of demons, he fought off cultists (plus kudos to Father Garcia for that also with his mighty holy shotgun) and fought off Super Miriam, which is the epitome of high ass authority of a demon and walk it off after finally freeing Amy from suffering
I'd say John's faith is higher than what he anticipated, man's a walking chad
Think about this- if his faith was stronger, would he have absolutely eviscerated the demons instead?
@@ziongamer6905 man gonna be like father garcia, holy shotguns af, if his faith is at most peak ngl from how I see it
it's not that his faith is based on whether god is real or not. Its that whether or not god cares, or is even able to stop the demons, or that john can do so.
It wasn't his faith on God that he was losing, it was his faith on himself

i was curious what the box said! thanks! truly a case of what it says on the tin

A lot of amazing moments in this one! FAITH really encompassed the creepiness of lacking details with its mix of Atari-style 8bit visuals and rotoscoped cutscenes.
But the story also continues to impress me. Father John's character gains more depth as we see him reach the threshold of how much he can push past his fear, how much his guilt is haunting him (depending on the ending, figuratively or literally). And how his genuine faith helps him keep himself together without making him invincible. Gotta say, though, the long build up to Gary really paid off well in the finale. The ultimate subversion to punctuate just how done he is with John, was kinda chilling.
Hang on a minute... is Jakob that's talking to Gary... is that the bad guy from DUSK? It looks exactly like him and the note seems to imply it is him. Holy shit, is Faith in the Dusk verse? Who's the 3rd guy then? Looks like something out of Gloomwood.
that is indeed the villain of DUSK.
Not only is that Jakob from Dusk, that "pet" you encounter outside the house is a Horror, an enemy type in Dusk's late game. It's a lot less tanky against John's cross, though.

2:28:34 - "damnation of memory"
Since you sounded confused, Manly-senpai, here is a little explanation for the term "Damnatio Memoriae" you encountered in this game: it is a modern Latin phrase meaning "condemnation of memory", indicating that a person (or thing, religion, etc...) is to be excluded from official accounts. Depending on the extent, it can be a case of historical negationism. It was often attempted when a new religion or main culture took over an existing one, with book burning, destruction of cult places and so on...
Not sure if it being in this place implies that the cult is way older than we think or that the cultists want to erase all proof of the existence of their sacrifices and people like John.
It may be that the phrase is chosen because of its history with religion, but I feel like it takes on a more literal meaning with John. He is "condemned" to his fate because of the memories of his failure.
That or he is so royally borked that his very existence is wiped from the face of the (also borked) earth.
