    It's always interesting to see these
    Like i can't read attack on titan, the art is just too rough for me (I'm often very art focused)
    And it's just one example how things can vary (just personal taste ofc, I've had the same with classics like Blame that others love)
    But it's in my trash tier

      True it all hinges on your personal taste and I understand the art of Attack on Titan is pretty rough I think it adds to the harsh atmosphere of the story, but I can see how it isn’t so appealing haha 🤣

    Yay, epic tier list video! 26 series is a lot of series to go through, but I personally enjoy the longer format videos just as much as the shorter ones! Sometimes, more so! This was one was no different!
    Of the 26 that you read, I have read 4; Soloist in a Cage, Alice in Borderland, The Horizon, and Yomotsuhegui: Tree of Death, and I feel like you were spot on in your rankings of them! I totally agree with everything you said about Yomotsuhegui, it was still good, but it absolutely would have benefited from at least another volume to explore the characters relationships and flesh out the lore and history a bit more. The other three were A+, 5 star reads for sure!

      @MizzMangaChatz  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Aww thanks so much!! I’m glad you enjoyed the longer format video 😊
      So glad to hear our rankings match up, yeah Tree of Death would have definitely been A or even S tier if it just had a volume or two more to explore everything…just a shame bc it was raspy interesting! Still happy I discovered it and read it though😄 and I’m still so happy you read Soloist in a Cage I feel like everyone is sleeping on it!!

    Fun vid! I feel the same about Pleasure and Corruption. It’s a ridiculous, raunchy series that occasionally makes me question myself as to why I’m enjoying it so much. Also, I wonder how the JK Haru light novel compares to the manga. I’m about a third of the way through the novel. It’s very solid so far imo

      Haha 🤣 well good glad I’m not the only one! I really loved the first 6 volumes of the manga just hated where they left it felt so incomplete…definitely would love to hear what you think of the light novels ending! I still might pick it up myself to see lol

    I completed nothing but bangers. Reading too many ongoing series it seems. Seeing as how the final volume came out in January, I technically finished Golden Kamuy this year, which is now firmly my favorite manga. Also, right below that would be Dorohedoro, Alice in Borderland, Delicious in Dungeon, Goodnight Punpun, and Blame! Finally read Silent Voice and then two Oshimi works in Happiness and Blood on the Tracks. About to finish Tomie and ParaKiss. I have Horizon, Soloist, and Flowers of Evil sitting complete on my TBR currently. Gotta pick up Yomotsuhegui now that it's done. One of that mangaka's older series, Green Blood, is like top 5 most wanted series for me to be printed in English so maybe if this does well then they'll pick that one up too.

    • @MizzMangaChatz
      @MizzMangaChatz  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s great!! Happy you enjoyed all the manga you read! I still want to read Dorihedoro so many volumes to collect first though 😅
      Oooh well I hope more of their work gets published! Really loved the art and interesting concepts of Yomotsuhsgui that was touched on would be interested to read more by that mangaka!

    So when I saw your post with A School Frozen in Time earlier today, (loved the snowy scenery btw!) it took every ounce of restraint I had not to go buy it right then and there!🤣 I have so much already sitting on my bookshelf that I plan on reading in the upcoming weeks that there really isn't any pressing need to buy more to pile on top!😅 I would at least like to get through Wind and Truth(Stormlight 5) and knock a few more prompts off the challenge before I buy anything else, but once I do, I'm pretty sure that A School Frozen in Time and The Flowers of Evil are going to be two of my first purchases! (Maybe a vol or two of D. Gray-Man as well🤣) As of this moment, I plan on reading them back to back starting with A School, since you found it to be the slightly weaker one. That way I can compare them directly and see if the order in which they're read affects my overall opinion any.🤔
    I'm also glad that you talked about Children of Whales a little bit as well! Those covers are gorgeous, and I am still very much interested in reading them, but it's good to know what I'll be getting myself into! If I know a series is finished, I usually like to read it all at once anyways! It's a bit of a risk collecting all the vols before hand, especially with longer series, but I've lucked out so far in that I've enjoyed all the ones I've taken a chance on so far! Hopefully, that streak continues with these three as well!🤞

    • @MizzMangaChatz
      @MizzMangaChatz  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Haha yes you have a big ol novel to get through, but I do think that’s a good plan especially bc A School Frozen in Time was fun to read when there was snow added to the ambiance (though idk if where you are you get snow lol) and it’s focal point of mental health, and facing the dark parts of your self are definitely both present which is why I linked them in my head they’re definitely very different types of story. A School Frozen in Time is much more mystery based and surreal whereas The Flowers of Evil is much more rooted in reality, though a dark, spiraling one of these teenage kids. But, I’m curious if you feel the similarities at all or it’s just me 🤭
      Oh yes please pick up some D. Gray-Man I know it’s not finished but srsly so good!!! 💯
      Children of the Whales and Phantom Tales of the Night are both so hard to pin my feelings down on then they didn’t leave me feeling disappointed in the story per se like Girl from the Otherside or even JK Haru (though for different reasons) but there was just this missing puzzle piece for me between bumping it up to perfection (for me) and just a solid read, but I really enjoyed my time with both though Children of the Whales the beginning especially is so sad 😭 The art is super gorgeous in both too that doesn’t hurt! 🤣🤩

    • @michaelcowan285
      @michaelcowan285 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @MizzMangaChatz oh it definitely snows where I live!😄 It just hasn't yet this year. It's been unseasonably warm with the temperature hovering in the 50's for the most part. It dropped down to the low 20's last week, but it never really snowed.😞 Just a light snowfall that didn't leave more than a dusting and a few patches of grassy snow here and there slowly melting away in the afternoon sun. Hopefully, we get some soon! I'm also one of those weirdos that loves the snow! (most people I know hate it because of driving conditions and/or because if there's snow, there's also cold, which is the thing they actually hate😂) I also want to take my pic for the winter vibes prompt in a winter scene, but it has to actually snow for me to do that!🤣
      After I've read A School Frozen in Time and The Flowers of Evil, I'll be sure to let you know what I thought of them and whether I also got similar vibes from them! It might be a little while before I get to The Children of the Whales, but similarly, once I do, I'll be sure to share my thoughts on it! Maybe I'll be able to touch on whatever nebulous thing or series of things that kept it from being a perfect read for you.🤷‍♂️

  • @michaelcowan285
    @michaelcowan285 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Yes! Soloist in a Cage is so good! Of the 4 series that I've also read this year, it's the only one that I haven't left a super long comment trying to relay my thoughts on!😅 I really enjoyed it! It does not suffer from being a short series in any way, shape, or form! The story isn't overly complex, but there is definitely nuance to Chloe's character and motivations! It's gets pretty dark at times, but the story uses that darkness to compare and contast Chloe's actions so well! There's always that ray of hope pulling her and the reader up out of the gloom! The plot never felt rushed or incomplete, and the action was fantastic as well! I think that it used the dystopian setting to masterful effect! It's a trope that we're all familiar with to a certain extent, and it was able to use that familiarity to establish a rich lived in world from the beginning with very little need for exposition! Those basic building blocks laid the foundation for the plot to hit the ground running and really thrive! Oh and the artwork!🤩 I've been struggling since I read it months ago to find the proper words to describe it!😅 It's so beautiful and evocative! The style is clean and realistic, but there's more to it than that! I can't quite put my finger on it, but it just has that something to it! An almost dreamy quality I guess! Idk, I can't really quantify it or properly describe it, so before I start rambling away in circles,😅 I'll just say that it is an incredibly stunning feast for the eyes, and even though I still don't feel like that'sdoing it justice, leave it at that!😂
    I probably would never have known about it if not for your channel, so I am so glad that you discovered it, and enjoyed it enough to talk about and encourage others to read! I agree, it is fantastic and more people need to read it! It is worth it 💯%!

    • @MizzMangaChatz
      @MizzMangaChatz  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Awww and I’m so very happy I could convince you to check it out, at least one person was influenced by me on this one 🤣 just have to slowly keep harping on it until more are! I think it’s seriously hard to make a 3 volume series that isn’t pure fluff and romance anyway to be as perfect as that one was, but it managed to tell such an action packed, dramatic, emotional, and harrowing but succinct story all in three vols and it never fails to impress me! Such a good one hope we get more from this mangaka!! ☺️

    • @michaelcowan285
      @michaelcowan285 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @MizzMangaChatz agreed on all accounts! Apparently, the mangaka has been releasing chapters of a new manga in Shonen Jump+ all year!😀 It's called Astro Baby, and there have been 24 chapters released! There isn't a physical vol out yet, but hopefully, that changes soon!🤞It sounds really interesting! This is the little synopsis blurb I found:
      The remote town of North Hill has been quarantined to prevent the spread of the mysterious Couper disease that is turning people into cannibals. Young soldier Billy returns to his hometown for the first time in six years for the woman he loves, but what horrors will be awaiting him...?

    I want to put JK Haru on the very bottom just out of spite but I think your placement was most fitting lol. I had no idea Let's Do It Already was finished! And nine volumes too, not too long. I'll put it higher on my priority list. After Alice in Borderland of course, I'm still only 3 volumes deep sorry I'm taking so long! Flowers of Evil is a total reread again. I mean, I already did! I agree with everything you said about it. It's very touching!

    • @MizzMangaChatz

      Hahaha noooo 🤣 my baby JK Haru!!! I’m the opposite I wanted to be able to put it higher just couldn’t after that last volume…yes, it’s complete in Japan so now we’re just waiting for all the vols to be published here!! I love this one so much fluffy cuteness 😊 and yes so happy we buddy read Flowers of Evil it was a really great time such a touching read overall 🥲 and yes you better keep reading Alice in Borderland!! 🤣👏

    About Kino's Journey, the reason there was only 1 light novel translated was because the writer hated the translation and revoked the publishing license, preventing any further novels from being released here. A shame about how the series ended too, I was really enjoying it then it was like wait, THIS is where they ended it?!? Seriously, even if there wasn't going to be another volume they could have added a couple of pages of epilogue to at least wrap it up a little better.

    • @MizzMangaChatz
      @MizzMangaChatz  27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Oh really?! They hated the translation so interesting I really loved what I read so I’m curious why they hated it…that’s a shame though and yeah the manga ended at the worst possible spot, and agree that they could have at least added an epilogue chapter or something!

      @@DShiflet01 ooh wow well I'd be so happy if they gave rights to a publisher who'd keep the original integrity! Soloist In A Cage I just need the last volume! You are bumping it up my list to get. Jealousy I was so surprised I loved it so much as well! It has all the tropes of things I hate but for some reason it got me lol 😂 Nameless Asterism I got due to your recommendation so I need to read it asap! Phantom tales of the night was just so good! The covers are just gorgeous! Another one that I read up to volume nine and I have no idea why I stopped! A school frozen in time it’s been sitting on my shelf and I’ve heard next things. But due to your recommendation, I will definitely pick it up and read it very soon. So glad you joined in on the live stream for fake. It was so much fun and I had the exact same thoughts that you did about it. It’s a shame about Kenos journey I still really want to pick it up. Really enjoy the anime. Girlfriends thought the same thing about. Glad you didn’t like ghost diary some odd reason I had a feeling that you said you did. The idea of it was great. I love the detective club! Just picked up Yakuza In Love so this is my sign to read it lol this video was so much fun. Please definitely make it next year.

      Oooh you’re so close to completing Soloist in a Cage!! Omg perfect time to read it in the dark, bleak winter months! Same with A School Frozen in Time great Winter read with that snowy backdrop 😄 I hope you enjoy!! Omg Nameless Asterism will be perfect for a cozy read at least I really hope you love it 🥰 there’s not much to it but it’s so cute!
      Haha I actually was enjoying the first two vols of Ghost Diary like yeah the sister bit was weird, but like it was easy to read and art was good but third volume let me down…just overall left a bad taste in my mouth haha sorry to have confused you I think it was bc it like bothered me the more I thought about it afterwards. Especially bc yeah the occult club part was good just the choices it made and direction it went were dumb lol
      Thanks so much!! This was fun so most likely I’ll do it again next year 😊

    The Japanese seem to really consistently struggle with good or even decent endings after stringing people along for 100+ chapters of a series.
