McDonald’s had a promotion for the 1984 Olympics where they would give out prizes for every medal won by an American team or athlete. But because the Soviet Union boycotted the 1984 Olympics, the Americans had very little competition. As a result, McDonalds had to give out more prizes than they had initially expected. It’s considered to be one of the biggest marketing blunders of all time.

Regardless of this (or maybe because of it) the 1984 Olympics were among the most profitable in history, largely due to the use of already existing sports arenas and facilities in the LA area. And despite the Soviet boycott, it also set the record at the time for most countries competing in the games.
As you can see from the report here, the boycott was announced only around a month or two before the games, so McDonald’s probably didn’t have time to axe their promotion or maybe didn’t see the risk it posed when removing the Soviets as competition.

Don’t forget the memorable Simpsons episode that parodied the situation, with Krusty’s fast food promotion blowing up in his face.

Wow, that promo for "The First Olympics" movie gives away every single plot point in extraordinary detail. What's the point of watching once you've seen the promo?

The V miniseries was the big break for actor Robert Englund, who would become famous later this same year as Freddy Krueger in the original Nightmare on Elm Street. Englund was known for playing nice guys up to this point, so becoming a horror icon was a big change for him.

The Duck Factory was also a rare live action appearance for Don Messick, a voice actor known for being the original voice of Scooby Doo and Boo Boo on Yogi Bear.

That person in the canon snappy commercial... reputation was ruined for life due to the photographic footage of spilling all the oranges being passed around.

5:35 - Wow, one of my older brothers got that Olympic camera for their birthday that year. I remember loving it, and wishing I could use it.

Finesse- The little spray sound that the hairspray can makes in time with the music sounds very nice. I bet it would make a good musical instrument in itself.
Honda Lawnmower- The eye rolling expression that the man’s neighbor makes at 7:19 says it all about how he feels about his neighbor and his bragging.

Purina 100-wonder if Garfield and Morris are V.I.P members at the Purina100 club
No Riptide and Remington Steele tonight..? 🙁
V:-The Final Battle-.then again theyre probably secretly doing their part to kick the Visitors off of Earth
Honda Lawnmower-with Richard Sanders(would've been funny if he had said"As God is my witness, these mowers make grass fly!")
Cheers-Sam and Diane doing what TV Tropes would call the "Slap-Slap-Kiss" bit
Brach's Candy-loved eating their Orange Slices by the bagful
    Burger King-Webster loves his Whoppers
Honda Scooters-wouldve loved hearing a duet w/ Grace and Adam
The Duck Factory-it appeared that there was going to be a ongoing story arc with this show, but most of the episodes were aired out of order after the pilot
    Hill Street Blues-Furillo:"No she doesn't,honest!!!"
The First Olympics-better to wait for the Paris Olympics in July..

V: The Final Battle would've been so much better if Kenneth Johnson had remained as executive producer, or if they had stuck with his original storyline and had the "great enemy" of the Visitors show up, the alien insect race called "Zedti."

If you've read the current printing of the original miniseries novelization, the last chapter described this alien race who were the sworn enemies of the Visitors.

@@rstyeast73 Presumably had there been a follow-up to V:The Second Generation(his novel that ignores The Final Battle and The Series),they wouldve played a vital role

They made a 1984 Olympics Canon camera? Wonder how much that goes for these days.
The ending to the Toyota Truck ad was used in a memorable TH-cam "Poop" video, The King Gets A Car. th-cam.com/video/C2zh7nicC3E/w-d-xo.html

That trailer for The First Olympics 😂😂😂😂 At least it's 5 hours now that we've seen the whole thing through narration right up to the end
