Happy 4th of July everyone! Consider this a 4th of July present from me to you! Meet my new earliest 1st-generation VHS recording by about a year-and-a-half. This came from the same eBay lot as those CBS commercials from September 1978 that I posted a few days ago.
So, for a little backstory, these tapes came from an estate sale in Pensacola, FL, which after thinking about it, makes a lot of sense. Lots of New Yorker's move to Florida when they retire from their job, and the original recorder definitely had a ritzy job to afford blank tapes back in 1978!
There is in fact another SNL recording from the week after on this exact tape, so expect another set of commercial breaks within the next day or so! Enjoy, y'all!

The quality on this is amazing, looks very close to how live TV off an outdoor antenna within 15 miles of the broadcast tower looked back then. Of course this is progressive scan and not interlace so it actually looks better.
From Season 3, Episode 18, host Steve Martin debuts, on national television, his novelty song, King Tut!
One of the highest rated SNL shows ever, according to IMDB
Saturday Night Live, the coolest thing to ever come out of the 70’s ..
These are fantastic!
Seven years later , The Boss Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, and Bob Dylan joined other legends to contribute to a cause by performing on the USA For Africa benefit song “ We Are The World “ …
Recorded on the same day child actor Robert J. Steinmiller Jr. was born and my Mom turned 20 years old as well!
2:21 there is the 1978 Personal Touch Woman's Razor commercial
