Tried this game when it first came solely because it was linked with Mass Effect 3 through some promotion, but having completed Skyrim just a few months prior I couldnt really get into it and never gave it a fair chance. Got it for free through Xbox Live Gold a few years later and absolutely fell in love with it. One of my favorite games of all time now
This game has an insane backstory to how it was made and the problems that resulted from it being made. Including that getting it made nearly bankrupted a state.
Playing the remaster now on PSPlus and I am blown away at how good it is. What an absolute shame it was such a problem for the developers, they made a great game.
@@bobhill9845lol the combat is just good enough to keep it interesting it still holds up today as long as you skip some of the lesser interesting dialogue.
Game was seriously fun and impressively good for what it is. Nothing world shattering but its a nice and chill RPG you can lay back and explore the worlds caves and dungeons, craft, hunt, quest etc. Really wish it got the love it deserved because a sequel to something like this would be an absolute BANGER.
My one criticism of this game is the hidden effects on the bleed and poison debuffs. You have to always be reading the loading screens for the informative prompts to generate or you’ll never know that bleed increases physical damage taken or poison reducing damage output
I think I got a physical copy in some sale and it collected dust in my shelf for a long time. Until some day I rediscovered it, launched it with no expectation and played it completely through. Solid game.
I think this is easily one of my favorite games. Always reminds me of my brother when I play it. I cannot express my excitement when I saw that you played it
Such an underrated game. The world building , the storytelling , sidequests , and the main quests are well written. Combat is a bit sluggish but it's an old game and even that is somewhat good. But damn i miss this game. Might replay it after this video :D
It's every bit as good as you remembered it. We re-installed it with the last DLC, but it will no longer run - we're simultaneously pissed off and wistful...
i wouldnt say it went under the radar. It was well reviewed and well received, but it didnt sell enough to make a profit because of the massive budget, which led to the Shilling/RI fiasco and closure of the studio. A second game was even planned. Might see more from the IP now that THQ owns it and Re-Reckoning was well received, and even got its own DLC.
So, fun fact qbout the daggers. If you become really good at the assassination skill and sneak from behind for a stealth kill, not only can you reach a stage where you can insta kill large creatures but you may also witness unique kill animationa just when assassinating certain creatures.
I also went back to it recently, bridging the gap til Diablo IV releases. I crafted a few things yesterday and I'm really satisfied with my poison / ice rogue, it's so much fun. Animations and combat are so awesome, hoping for a 2nd part.
Enjoy it. This game is a power fantasy, everything gets op in the end, ALL of it. You cant die at a certain point, some criticize that, to me thats the POINT of the game
I never finished this game way back in the day, it's been sitting in my steam library since re-reckoning came out. This really motivates me to play it again!!
@jesusmloralopez1970 there are recent rumors it might be in the works, but that's only based on the fact THQ started posted job listings after re-reckoning came out. So it's still unconfirmed
Wow I randomly found this game somehow a few months ago and played it. It was actually so fun! I can’t remember the last time I found a random rpg and got lost in its world
This game is very underrated. Its really good and deserves more recognition. It probably one of my favourite games of all time. Im thinking of doing another playthrough but as a melee character and not a mage(which is absurdly overpowered because of the meteor spell.. i had to stop using that spell because it was too op and it made the game too easy )
I got this after playing the demo that was linked to ME3, got some armor and chakram launcher in ME3 and omni blade daggers and Shepard's armor in KoA...
Truly one of my favourite RPGs. I'm glad to see people are getting into it since the remaster dropped! Way back when it first came out, I didn't know a single other person that even knew it existed. Not even my brother seemed interested lmao. Still, Re-Reckoning is the best way to experience the game. It's got most all the DLC, including those armor sets and weapons you picked up from that chest in Gorhart!
It is kind of crazy the "legs" this game has had over the years. The controversy and drama about how it was made due to the studio and their aspirations didn't help, the timing of the game didn't help, at the time, it's art style really didn't help. But through the years it's had a good following and it constantly surprises new players with just how much it resonates with them. Sort of like some of the 2d platformers in the 90's and 3d platformers in the early 2000's, sometimes you just have to remove a game from the era it was made in order to truly appreciate all that went into it.
Going into DLCs you will clearly see where stuff became unfinished(and even in the main game, though it's usually more subtle then in creations of studios like Spiders, who work mostly on first area and parts reviewers and trailers will show), but the game has a great atmosphere of Fable-like, even if it's somewhat ruined by clear MMO influences of "project Copernicus".
I've been wondering to get this game for my ps3 collection but now you persuaded me to get it, still I wish Rhode Island didn't own the rights to it so we can get a sequel
I remember buying this at Blockbuster when they were closing down. It was so much fun! Especially when I wore the shepherd armor and wielded my hailstorm bow, gentleman’s favor, and dragon eyes chakrams. The house of valor DLC was my absolute favorite. And earning the Genteman’s favor was the best feeling ever! I then went on a quest to obtain this “Greatsword in the stone” that depended on your level if you met the requirements to wield it. If you met the requirement, then you would get the true version with bonus benefits. But if you were not at the requirements, then you would weak a very weak and inferior version of the weapon. I played this game a lot, and getting my first house after helping a village with a little spider problem and playing exterminator was so rewarding. Sadly my game didn’t work the 3rd day. So I had to sadly trash it. But I now have it again for my PS4, and I even went out to get the huge strategy guide dictionary for the game too. And oh man! After looking through that book, I was not aware that there was so many unique armors and weapons. And I wasn’t aware of the so called “Chicken overlord” Still one of my favorite underrated games next to Dragons Dogma
my favorite part of this game is the Card system they have. If you want to use a hyrbid build the universalist is just the collest option. I love the classes you can make and it has a lot of build variety.
Imagine this gameplay in Skyrim. You can uppercut them with a sword to launch them in the air and then shoot them with arrows when they are in mid air.. The magic is amazing in this game. The weapon upgrades are top notch. This game is one of the most underrated games of all time
Ohhhhhh me and my younger siblings did FOREVER we got it when it first came out and we were obsessed for longer than I remember the lore in this game is bordering on being novel quality.
the dlc gear is actually pretty much fine to use at that stage, since it scales to your level at the moment you open that chest. And it is pretty much a starter gear. The side content in this game is really something special. In a good way.
A lot of great action RPGs in this era. Amalur, Dragon's Dogma, Darksiders, etc. This was the era of Dragon's Age Origins and Skyrim as well. Good times.
i play this game for the first time right now and it's INSANE how it never got into my field before. this feels like something straight up from childhood. definitely recommend if you haven't played it yet, and don't shy away from playing on hard difficulty, the game itself is rather easy and gets boring quickly if there's no challenge, imo.
This game is fkn legit, haven’t played the new DLC yet cuz I feel some kinda way buying it all over even though it’s backwards compatible. You kinda make me wanna change my mind 😂😂
I didn't know this game existed until my friend mentioned how he used to play it with his brother, I was planning on buying it but it came on ps plus that exact month.
Glad you rediscovered this game. The combat is awesome. The storytelling is strong. The music is very cleverly written. The writing for the NPC's deepens this tale. There are so many ways to become OP I'm glad THQ Nordic made the hard level more difficult and included a very hard setting. Whenever I journey through the game I like being the Varani rogue to take advantage of the added criticals, and their armors look cool too, imo. I also like filling up the skill tree entirely (yes, it can be done), although the best skills are detect hidden, blacksmithing and sagecraft. Have fun!
My absolute favorite weapon in this game is the chakrams. No matter what my build is I always make sure to dip into magic so that I can be proficient with them.
Loved this game - it was a hidden gem overshadowed by the release of Skyrim. I had my issues with it, like how I didn't like that the inventory chest in your houses was universal, so you'd run out of space REAL quick so you couldn't keep all the unique weapons and armour you'd find. No mounts and lack of interaction with simple things as small as sitting on a bench. Other than those, amazing combat ( although Sorcerer was OP before it got a remaster ). Awesome final boss which, imo, was waaaay better than Alduin in Skyrim. Decent voice acting. Interesting lore and quests. Played the heck out this game
Zero Punctuation said it best: Babys first Skyrim. It was released 2,5 months after Skyrim, in FEBRUARY. So everyone who got Skyrim for christmas were still playing that, and Skyrim had more complex everything, while also not being stuck with one of the worst cameras ever. It also had to compete with Witcher 2, which had MUCH more satisfying combat and a more mature story.
I remember playing this for the mass effect rewards you get for playing the intro. Ended up dumping more and more time into it and totally forgot about ME 😂
One of the most under-rated games ever. Had the misfortune of being released at around the same time as Skyrim (shortly after, I think), so it was kind of overlooked by a lot of gamers (and a lot of the media!) It was originally intended to be an MMORPG. Later, it was merged with another game, and the seams between the two are not that hard to spot. (The cartoony graphics of the opening areas give way to a more realistic style about half-way through.) Despite its troubled production history, it's still one of my favourites.
