My Mexican wife of 53 years passed away 1 year ago. She was a wonderful cook and introduced me to wonderful Mexican meals over the years. I miss her very much and only now am I trying to learn how to cook some of the dishes she made. I will start with the CARNE CON PAPAS Recipe (Mexican Beef and Potato Stew), I hope I can do it justice. Thanks
Man Arnie you are very fortunate, to be have your mom there helping you. My mom is gone and she was literally one of the greatest cooks I knew....I miss her food so much..... thank you for your sharing with us your mom.... peace
Same here...❤ I was thinking the same thing as I watched the video. How amazing it is for him to have his mom there..I wish I did too..😔🥹 enjoy your mothers folks..tomorrow is never promised.
Just found your channel and loving it so far. Wanted to say this though. I lost my Mom about 6 months ago, and when you were like "I've got someone looking over me" and your Mom says "always" I flat out cried because that's exactly what my Mom would have said to me. It's so wonderful that you get to do this and that your Mom is there to be a part of it and that there's clearly so much love and respect for each other. I hope for health and success to you both.
Bro your the best , I learned how to make the best damn rice from yur chanel..and the meat and potatoes..and you keep it so simple and quick ..me and my son now learn from here ..keep it up carnal..love from bakersfield california
The relationship you have with your mama is absolutely beautiful and a blessing. I lost my mom to suicide at the age of 6. My daddy never remarried so I never truly knew what it was like to grow up with a mom. My daddy was an amazing father/mother role model, but there are just some things a daughter can’t talk to her dad about so although my tias tried to be there it was never the same. May god bless your mom with muchos años mas de vida and treasure what you have. Btw I tried your recipe, it was sabroso! Blessings from Victoria, Texas
Born and raised in the RGV, a lot of the food we ate growing up ( and still eat ) is good for the Soul as well. It is food that makes us proud of our heritage and culture .
My wife and Mother in Law are Mexican, MIL too old to cook any more, wife’s works full time, so I’m the chief, I love you down to earth recipes and they are easy to do, my wife knows how to cook great Mexican, she slow to show me 😢but that’s were YT shines! Holism and very much comfort foods for us! Thank You!
Arnie I am Korean and my partner of 7 years is Mexican. I really impressed him with your recipe!! You were right on about not adding salt while cooking the carne! Meat came out SO tender! THANK YOU and your mama! 😊
So glad I found your channel. I was born in McAllen and grew up in Rio Grand City. I now live in WV and have missed this dish so much. My mom would make it weekly and I never got the recipe before she passed away. Made this tonight and it brought back great memories! Thanks again!
Growing up in South Texas, this recipe reminds me of my mom cooking lunch for my dad early in the morning. The entire house was filled with this delicious aroma. Thank you both for the memories. Lots of love from Pasadena, California!
Sirloin or steak, Not in my childhood! It was hamburger meat-there were seven of us. Aside from freshly made tortillas with butter, This was 1 of my favorite dishes. I think I will make this Today.
Mom makes this all the time. There were times when we would get tired of it, so we just add Mexican rice or refried beans to make it different. When it comes to flavor, this is "authentic' to a T. Great job Arnie. You passed the test again. Delicioso!
Looks delicious Arnie! My wife's family is from the Valley region of South Texas, and her mom always made what she calls conchitas (I think its also called sopa de conchas). Your mom's carne con papas very much reminds me of that. My mother in law's recipe uses diced beef and potatoes as well, but we also occasionally use diced chicken. Great comfort food, especially on chilly fall and winter days!
Thanks for posting another family recipe, ArnieTex. Made it last night and it was so good, I was doing the Arnie dance, too. Simple straight forward ingredients where the whole is def grater than the sum of the parts.
My husband is from Mission and that’s where his family comes from so I’m sure you know this is one of his favorites too. He’s like you he could eat it 2 to 3 times a week.😂😂❤ we love your videos Arnie ! don’t change a thing!
Looks delicious! We thicken ours also use green beans and corn with some of our New Mexico green chili for heat. Great videos I’ve learned a lot of cooking techniques from you and mom. Respect from New Mexico ✌🏼
Just made this and it was sooooooo delicious!! This is the second thing I've made from your channel (Chicken Calabacitas last week) and have loved each one. Thank you for posting this. I love the interaction between you and your mom. She cares so much for you, it shows. Thanks Momma Tex!
Just found your channel and I can’t help feel like I know you personally. I’m from south Tx. And you remind me of all my tios❤️ I grew up eating carne con papas and it’s one of my favorites 😋 God bless your family 🙏
Arnie I cooked this dish yesterday and for the first time my husband only had good comments. I am just not sure what you mixed the garlic with. Happy you are learning from the best teacher, your mom.
Thank you so so much!!! I made this a few weeks ago and my mom said it tasted just like my great grandma’s!! I haven’t had anything like it, in about 15+ years or so. Now it’s a staple in our home and will continue the tradition!! By the way, we LOVE HEB tortillas too!!
That looks delicious, I need to try to cook this recipe. It’s a blessing that you and your mom get alone so well . I love the respect you give to your mom😍🥰
I make this for my husband all the time. I do mine in the crockpot and it comes out perfect. I cook the meat in the crock for 3 hours, then add the diced potatoes for another 2 hours.
I just tried it out myself !! I’ll keep you guys updated! I used red bell peppers instead of green. Hope it doesn’t change it too much 🙏🏼 thank you guys for the recipe !
You're the real Deal Arnie! IMO your authenticity puts your channel to a top tier level. Definitely one of my favorite cooking channels to watch and learn from. Much love from Victoria TX! ✋️
It so nice to see the son and the mom making food for each other and sharing and showing how to make their own food and doing a great wonderful beautiful job .
I love your videos sir and I been watching your videos is amazing and see you cook . U made my day goes good and u make good delicious yummy spicy foods thank you sir
Hi Arnie! I just saw your video for carne y papas and was inspired to try it. I made some minor adjustments based on what I had on hand. I used sliced white cabbage instead of the peppers, tomato sauce and beef broth. I heated the beef broth based on your mom’s tip and added water to it. It smells delicious! I can’t wait to try it! Thank you 🙏.
I grew up on this and love it! I also add a small can of green chiles and a can of tomatoes. I make some mexican rice and fresh salsa. Making me hungry just writing about it! Lol!
Thank you 🙏 for sharing Anie! I use to make something similar often. Would add carrots round slices when I add the potatoes and at the end when you let it simmer, I would add broccoli crowns to mine. Tasting along the way to make sure everything was well seasoned. You brought back memories! Looks great!!
My momma use to make that all the time and she would also make the same dish with just papitas. I miss my momma ❤ Although she would always make tortillas from scratch. She had 11 kids to feed and she always did a great job!
Thank you and your beautiful mother for another amazing video. I'm going to make this tomorrow but use either radishes, turnips or rutabaga since my husband is diabetic. I'll also use arrowroot powder as my thickener rather than flour so he can enjoy one or two of those buttery HEB tortillas from the tortillaria. Thanks again Arnie and Mom❤
You hit this one out of the park Arnie. I added 2 jalapeños and 2 serranos and used masa for the thickening. It was a little hot for the wife but she ate every drop.
Arnie that looks like a home run. Another item for my to do list. You should do a video on your dance moves brother ,you got it down. Thanks for the videos , fun to watch!!!!
I am making this for the weekend, love your mom she is so sweet! going to also order some of your seasoning will let you know my thoughts Thanks for sharing your families recipes
My dad made this when I was a kid and I like to make it for my family pretty often now... I never really make it exactly the same every time, so many ways to tweak it. It's gotta have lemon juice though 💯
Arnie, I received the products so quickly I am very happy and I am already using them on my rice and papas and meat! Thank you 😊 so much and your mama and whoever is recoding it too! Teamwork!😊
Now I am home sick! (I’m from Southwest Texas). One day I pray to move back home! 🙏🏼. Gonna have to make this recipe for my little boys and show them the food I grew up on! Thanks for sharing! ❤️
Tried this delicious dish with a change. It's snowing hard so no store run today. I used homemade salsa instead of tomatoes along w lean ground beef. It was a bit spicy from jalapeños, the way I like. So delicious. Thanks for sharing
I remember this as one of the many favorites mom cooked...as an adult I consider this as comfort food often ask my better half to make this.We have been following your channel and are subscribed. We hope to be able to make a trip down to the RGV around your area soon.Always looking forward to your next video.
Yummy, this looks delicious! I think the timing of when you add the ingredients makes a lot of sense, I can’t wait to make your version of this beloved recipe. Thanks Arnie and Mamma for the tips!🙏💙❤️
Looks delicious!! We grew up with it too & we have it often, our recipes are pretty much the same, it's quick, easy & hearty 🤗😋 I love yr videos with yr Mom Thank you
Hi Arnie, thank you for this recipe! Of of my best friends used to make something like this and I never heard her mention the name of it or learned how to make it. My mouth is watering, just watching you make it. I can't wait to attempt to make it. And like your momma, I peel my potatoes the same as she does. You guys are doing it wrong! 😆 Mamas are the best. Have a great weekend.

What a beautiful family! Food cooked with love is always best.
Yet another dish I will be making.

This was a staple growing up in a family of 7 here in the RGV. Love your recipe! God bless, brother 🙏🏼

My family left Pearsall, Texas, in the 50s. I grew up on all of those dishes it is amazing the similarities of the way she cooked, and your mom cooks.

Arnie I cooked this dish yesterday and for the first time my husband only had good comments. I am just not sure what you mixed the garlic with. Happy you are learning from the best teacher, your mom.
I could see a brownish powder so I'm guessing it might have been cumin. I even added some cilantro at the end.
Arnie, tell me if that's wrong.
