My mom and her family are from Texas, I remember my Gandmother always crushing her cumino and garlic in her mojcajete to make this. It was so delicious. Miss you Grandma Trini❤️🕊️
My bf is from AZ and has never heard or had guisada, I’m making him this on Friday, I invited all the family and friends to come by and have some! I’m a home cook and it’ll be my first time making guisada!
I remember my grandmother made this on Wednesdays with beans and rice and fresh bread. I was a young teenager and I would go into the kitchen and see my mamama tending to the cooking and stopping to give me a kiss. She was the nicest person on the planet! All of the men would join my grandfather at the table and eat together. Great food great memories. Thank you for sharing this recipe!
I'm going to give this recipe a shot. When I was in the Air Force I worked a lot of night shifts. I used to get carne guisada tacos for breakfast at a taqueria outside the gate at Lackland AFB in San Antonio when I got off of work. There was another place that had carne guisada in a burrito that was really good. Later on, I live in Utah and can't find any tex-mex worth a damn.
I"m so glad I found your channel! I'm binge watching lots of episodes today. My wife and I grew up in South Texas and now live in North Texas, but brought recipes with us. Pan de campo is a traditional side dish to carne guisada in our house too! We probably make it every couple of weeks.

@@strummercash5601 I've got a good one for you, a truly "local" dish for people raised in Hawaii, taught to me by Leila Keawe Aiko, my best friend's wife 35 years ago. It's called Shoyu Chicken. Rough chop a whole onion and saute until brown in oil, add 3 cloves of chopped fresh garlic and a couple slices of fresh ginger that you smash to release the flavor and sauté for 45-60 seconds until you can smell it, then dump in a cup of Aloha Shoyu (soy sauce), and one cup of regular sugar. Cook for a few minutes until sugar is melted 100% and the sauce is starting to boil. Add in 2-3 lbs of bone in chicken thighs with the skin removed, bring it to boil, cover, and reduce the heat to medium low (3.5-4 on the range), and simmer for 1.5-2 hours when the chicken is tender. Just take out the chicken and serve it over whatever your starch is with a little sauce for flavor. I serve mine with white rice and a can of corn with butter with a little salt and pepper. and some Won Bok Kim Chee. That is as local as it gets in Hawaii friend, every family in Hawaii eats that once a month at the least, you will too once you try it... If possible, try to find Aloha brand shoyu, even if you have to order it and wait. Kikoman shoyu is too salty, but can be used if you add a half cup of water to the 1 cup of shoyu to thin it down a little. Kikoman is made for dipping or making Poke, Aloha is for cooking... A hui hou...
@Spying Beast Wow! Thank you so much. I appreciate the recipe-which sounds delicious-and knowing from whom you’ve learned it. I recently was recommended by the Gods of Algorithms one channel: Tribal People Try in which Pakistani elders from remote villages try worldwide cuisines and another that features British high schoolers doing the same, most recently southern biscuits and gravy with chicken and sweet tea which one dubbed “proper nice”. On both channels, the participants are so gracious, enthusiastic-if-skeptical, downright funny, and incredibly endearing-I would like to see an episode of Pakistani tribal men and British school boys go out together for Russian pierogis or some such meal. Just as laughter and crying sound the same in any language, our love and appreciation for, our sharing and exploring of food, its origins and the traditions created around it, are universal and unifying. If we choose. Thank you again! What a wonderful gift you’ve shared with me. 🙏🏽✌🏽❤️
I first had carne guisada in a small town in South Texas back in the early 90's. Living in North Texas, I've searched high and low since and never had the same experience as I had in that small town. Wish I could remember the name of the town. I am so going to make this. You made this a simple and easy recipe and I can't wait to make this.
Chuck is such an underappreciated cut. My German great grandmother swore by it for meatloaf, and it's the only beef I will use in my meatloaf, and for burgers. I can NOT WAIT to try it in your carne guisada. Great stuff man!
I recently discovered how good (and a lot cheaper than RibEye) chuck meat is. It's flavorful and affordable in comparison to top cuts like ribeye and sirloin etc.
Love how he always mentions his momma. God bless all the momma’s around the world. Love you momma! Arnie, do you happen to have a recipe for guisado for burritos?
This is my “go to” recipe for this dish. I’m simmering it right now, for the Sunday dinner. I’ve made it several times but I still watch the video every time. The family loves it.
You can get up at 6 am and start breakfast with your steaks. Plus, add onions and let your onions get nice and tender. Serve with homemade frijoles Add 1/2 of your garlic clove and just salt and pepper. Done..add a little flour and milk. Shake that baby up real good and slowly add it to your pan and watch it thicken.. I'm telling you it's delicious with homemade corn tortillas and homemade fresh salsa. Oh, the best ..
Very nice !!! Thank u but really I tried with good ole green from New Mexico and OMG !!!! From the 4Corners area thank u !!!!!! Native American love !!!!! Haha

Ok. This man knows what he is doing. My Dutch great grandmother. Yes Dutch. She spoke Portuguese and my so did my Spaniard great grandfather. She would use the cumino seeds with garlic cloves and grind them in the molcajete. This was also the way she added flavor to Spanish rice and paella.
Just made this for my daughter's birthday. Amazing. Used cubed chuck roast and it cooked up fork tender. I've been trying to replicate a local well-known taco shop's recipe (Mary's Tacos in Boerne, TX) and think I've now equaled or exceeded it. Thanks Arnie!

Your Carne Guisada looks awesome! When I lived in Kingsville, we used to make this with 20 pounds of meat cooked over mesquite in a large Cast Iron pot. You are right, all fresh herbs ground in the mocajete. Slow cook, we used a little beer for flavor. Great video!

I can't wait to try this at my house. I love carne guisada and found out when we moved from south Texas to Colorado, that they don't have carne guisada here and they don't even know what it is. Hello Arnie. I really enjoy watching your videos. I’m also from the Rio Grande Valley. I was born in San Juan and grew up in Donna. Richard S. Norwood Jr.
I love guisada! it reminds me of El Paso. There was one restaurant out here in Southern Cali that sold guisada call “Taste of Texas” but they closed down like 6 years ago and I’ve been craving it ever since. I will definitely have to try this recipe. Thanks for sharing.
Growing up in San Antonio I been eating carne guisada with cheese tacos as long as I could remember. When made right it’s a taste of heaven, great video brother keep spreading the great TexMex food love.
The first time I ever ate carne guisada tacos with cheese was from a restaurant called " Kelly Island" located right outside the main gate of Kelly AFB. that was back around the 1980s.
Love how juicy the meat looks....gonna try to make this myself for my family. I'm from South Texas and always been fascinated how my mom used to make this growing up.
I've been craving some carne guisada, and thank you for this delicious recipe. I will be making this soon. From a Tejana, thank you for your channel. 🙏
I loved your rice and was inspired to make this carne guisada. I trimmed the fat from the chuck roast and made my own tallow in a porcelain coated Dutch oven. I followed the recipe and put it in the oven at 210 degrees for six hours. It was fantastic. Now I know why it is a favorite of yours. Thank you!!!
What a surprise! I’ve been going to a Mexican restaurant for yrs, X always getting the wet burrito with carne guisada meat. Could never figure out how they made it…. Until now I’ll go back to the restaurant but when I’m hungry and don’t want to go out ! I’m making your and your mom recipe
@arnietTex i just made this tonight and your video helped me out a lot. My house right now has the smells i remember growing up with. You helped me remember that my mom use to put green pepper in her cooking. And if i was your neighbor i would volunteer to be a taste tester. Just saying.... 😊

Your taste test and realizing it needs some more salt. I have full confidence in your cooking. I'm going to have to try this now. Live in AZ, and enjoy cooking different stuff for my mostly Mexican familia.
Looks incredible! Ive never tackled guisada...making it that is. Ive been tearing it up for 40 years. Gonna give your recipe a shot. If by chance you do cabrito tampiqena im dying to learn how to do it. Im tired of driving 14 hours to Reynosa or Matamores from Ft worth to eat it. Thanks you for the video
I made some Birria tacos in the slow cooker - The left over juice/liquid would be stellar in this recipe. The liquid could even be cooled, then frozen in ziplock bags (i suggest 2 cups liquid per bag).
Moved to St Louis and then Phoenix from San Antonio. All I've craved is this. Brotha, I've made it once so far and it was amazing. Making it a second time as we speak following your instruction. Using a cast iron pan. So excited!!! Thank you for your tips. You remind me of an uncle that I love so much!
Good morning Arnie from Wimauma, Florida. I’m anxious about this stew. I have followed your recipes for chicken and beef fajitas for some fantastic cooks. My wife and I both love eating Mexican. We are still looking for a great Mexican rub for tacos and fajitas. Last night were ribeyes using you WOW rub. I’m equally impressed with your OG rub.
Good morning Larry and thank you. Man you jus cant go wrong with all the Fiesta brand seasonings. Don't recall if I sent you the link before so here you go. The Fajita seasoning and pork and chicken rubs are the best ever too but the FF with the blue label has a little mesquite flavor that just makes everything amazing. www.fiestaspices.com/
I like this version of Stew. Your home and cooking tools are awesome so much nicer than a tv studio and set. My mom never measured anything really and it always turned out great. Thank you!!

Mouth is watering...Carne Guisada is my ultimate comfort food. I cant wait to make this. Never would have thought about Con Papas! ...and that bread! Mamacita!!!!!
I was raised in South Texas and I miss the Carne Guisada, lots of places around San Antonio and further South made the best TexMex food. Unfortunately, I can't get any in Indiana. I will have to make some myself.
Nicley done, Arnie! My aunt used to live in Del Rio and had a decent carne guisada recipe when I was a kid. I've not had it in years. Yours looks MUCH better. I may have to give this recipe a try. Smoke on, Brother!
Absolutely wonderful! There are some differences in this recipe and my favorite recipe but I really want to try yours, looks sooooo good! Thank you for sharing!
My Mexican American girlfriend from San Diego CA came to visit me years ago. We went to a restaurant in San Antonio and she ordered CARNE asada.. they brought her guisada lol. She looked at it and said, is this dog food??? I said give it to me I will eat it!! West coast Mexicans :)
True, there is a major difference. This is carne guisada. As a San Diegan, this is usually cooked with chunks of potatoes. The potatoes absorb the flavor of the sauce. Never seen it served with mashed potatoes though. Forget the bread, give me tortillas to sop up the gravy. I love this dish! But I have seen some bad versions of it that did look like that canned “Dinty Moore” stuff that does resemble dog food! lol. So I do understand the girlfriends reference. Not all cooks are created equal! You can make a great version of this dish on the stove or in the oven.
West Coast Mexicans? What does that even mean? We come from all over Mexico and bring our culture, traditions and food with us just like Texas. Minus the Tex-Mex. Lol.
Oh, man....your dippin' into that gravy...that's all it took! Got all the ingredients...Gotta have it...I'm going to make some carne guisada right now!! ¡Orale!😄
I Love that you actually cook. You have to judge how much not look at the recipe. I like that you only use a small amount of cumin it can really overpower some recipes. And mixing it with the garlic makes it so authentic. I appreciate your artistic talent in cookery. The sheen of that gravy is gorgeous, that salad and that bread with the mashed potatoes screams Texas and America. Thank you sir.
New Sub here. That looks so good, and reminds me how good the food was in the Valley when I worked that area many years ago. Looking forward to going through all of your older vids! Thanks
Hey Arnie, Back in the mid 70's, early call out to drilling rigs in South Texas we would stop at any one of many mom-and-pop restaurants around Nueces County and pick up carne guisada, patato with egg, and charizo taquitos. Been making it for my family here in Thailand for over 30 years. Well, the wife and I are opening a little open-air place on the road and my sons say they can keep us busy. The wife will sell Thai and Lao dishes and Me?.....Little taste of Texas. Appreciate your videos!
Slightly different style than I have ever seen before. Growing up in Corpus Christi and living in the Rio Grande Valley for a while that is a little different but looks fantastic. I will have to try that at home. 👍🏻
DUDE!!! I want to come cook with you! Love your channel. I especially love your Al Pastor recipe. We recently purchased a home in San Miguel De Allede and have fallen in love with the gringas at one particular taco truck.
I can't wait to try this! Carne guisada is one of the things I never got the hang of. After watching several recipe videos,I think my problem was when I added the flour. Thank you for sharing!

I'd been watching Asian chefs and cooks on YT for a few years now and learning that style but now, for Tex Mex, you gonna be my go to. Thank you! You're food is so beautiful and you are a pleasure to listen to and watch.
Thank you for your comments!!
One of my most favorite things to eat and order out!!! I have got to give this a try, thank you for sharing your family recipes!!! With mashed potatoes...YUM!!!!
so fun to watch your videos! I love when other people love the food they make!!!! wonderful video!
I cooked this meal for my family this evening and it was a huge hit. Thank you so much for sharing it with us!!!❤❤❤
Hello Arnie. I really enjoy watching your videos. I’m also from the Rio Grande Valley. I was born in San Juan and grew up in Donna. Richard S. Norwood Jr.
💪
I love guisada! it reminds me of El Paso. There was one restaurant out here in Southern Cali that sold guisada call “Taste of Texas” but they closed down like 6 years ago and I’ve been craving it ever since. I will definitely have to try this recipe. Thanks for sharing.
Yup. Taste of Texas out in Covina on Citrus Ave. They were from San Antonia.
Arnie I made Carne Guisada for my family for the first time and OMG they loved it and so did I.Thanks.
Wow... Oh wow. Made this tonight and it was a party on my tongue! Thank you for sharing your delicious recipes! ❤
Ii love his recipes and the fact that he uses Fiesta seasonings. I use them too. Supporting local businesses. Love it! Much love to him.
I've been craving some carne guisada, and thank you for this delicious recipe. I will be making this soon. From a Tejana, thank you for your channel. 🙏
Hope you enjoy
I loved your rice and was inspired to make this carne guisada. I trimmed the fat from the chuck roast and made my own tallow in a porcelain coated Dutch oven. I followed the recipe and put it in the oven at 210 degrees for six hours. It was fantastic. Now I know why it is a favorite of yours. Thank you!!!
Thanks for showing us your , and your mothers way to cook.
Carne guisada is my absolute favorite! I even eat it as breakfast tacos, just tortilla, cheese, salsa, and the carne guisada!
What a surprise! I’ve been going to a Mexican restaurant for yrs, X always getting the wet burrito with carne guisada meat. Could never figure out how they made it…. Until now
I’ll go back to the restaurant but when I’m hungry and don’t want to go out ! I’m making your and your mom recipe
Anything and everything Arnie makes is 🔥🔥🤤🤤
Thank you NC
I can’t wait to try this! I’m a huge cast iron cooker so I love having new recipes to use with my Dutch oven! Thanks! New sub here!
@arnietTex i just made this tonight and your video helped me out a lot. My house right now has the smells i remember growing up with. You helped me remember that my mom use to put green pepper in her cooking. And if i was your neighbor i would volunteer to be a taste tester. Just saying.... 😊
You sir are a 956 treasure.
The molcajete is one of the best creations. Eyeballing the amount of your ingredients is also something you eventually learn to master.
🤩🤩🤩 carne guisada my favorite and with some refried beans and fresh homemade tortillas de harina and my go to meat is prime boneless chuck 🔥🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯 Bendiciones jefe
i love eating my carne guisada with white rice, recently my gf tried it like that for the first time and now she can't get enough. It looks delicious and amazing
Your taste test and realizing it needs some more salt. I have full confidence in your cooking. I'm going to have to try this now. Live in AZ, and enjoy cooking different stuff for my mostly Mexican familia.
Honestly I like how you cook from the hip. I use a recipe as a base to guide but I add spices, veggies and whatever by taste and eye balling.
@@ElfGreatTree yummmmm
@@ArnieTex ok I will order from Fiesta. Do we have a discount with you
@@larrytbowman5962 Sorry but no I sure dont
I like this version of Stew. Your home and cooking tools are awesome so much nicer than a tv studio and set. My mom never measured anything really and it always turned out great. Thank you!!
That Dutch o is well seasoned. Best looks good and tasty
Your my guy man! Love your stuff! From Henderson tx! Keep it up!
Awesome video. You are right Carne Guisada is made in so many different ways. Even us NY Ricans have our own way of making it. Thanks for sharing Bro 👊
Mouth is watering...Carne Guisada is my ultimate comfort food. I cant wait to make this. Never would have thought about Con Papas! ...and that bread! Mamacita!!!!!
Thank you
Great video Arnie! One of all time favorite dishes to eat! I can’t wait to try to cook your recipe soon 🤠🔥👊
Thank you Jay and thank for the convo today, see you in Austin soon.
I so glad that I found this channel keep the videos coming 😊
I have never had Carne Guisada. Looks delicious, and your recipoe is appetizing. Time to get some chuck.
Right on man, you'll be hooked
I was raised in South Texas and I miss the Carne Guisada, lots of places around San Antonio and further South made the best TexMex food.
Unfortunately, I can't get any in Indiana. I will have to make some myself.
Nicley done, Arnie! My aunt used to live in Del Rio and had a decent carne guisada recipe when I was a kid. I've not had it in years. Yours looks MUCH better. I may have to give this recipe a try. Smoke on, Brother!
Me encanta como explicas tus recetas!!!! Muchas gracias por compartir
Absolutely wonderful! There are some differences in this recipe and my favorite recipe but I really want to try yours, looks sooooo good! Thank you for sharing!
Originally from brownsville Tx, great videos! I've been cooking your recipes in Minnesota and everyone loves it!
As always awesome video brother, god bless from McAllen tx. keep up the good work out here to support your channel 👍🏻
Just love it, thank you.
Oh my heavens ❤️
That is 1000% my ultimate favorite dish. 🤤
Great video, I love Carna Gusida!
Pan de Campo I've never heard of, it looks good too. I gotta find that video, and try making it.
Well technically she’s right she asked for carnes asada which is grilled meat not stewed
Lol.
@@emefrench8984 🥰
@@emefrench8984it’s a joke bro
Thanks
Thank you
Hey Arnie,
Back in the mid 70's, early call out to drilling rigs in South Texas we would stop at any one of many mom-and-pop restaurants around Nueces County and pick up carne guisada, patato with egg, and charizo taquitos. Been making it for my family here in Thailand for over 30 years.
Well, the wife and I are opening a little open-air place on the road and my sons say they can keep us busy. The wife will sell Thai and Lao dishes and Me?.....Little taste of Texas. Appreciate your videos!
Another great video carnal!!!!😎🤘😎🤘😎🤘👌
Tnx Tony
I'm glad I found your channel, love it now I know how to cook, my husband will be in heaven..😀😀
Slightly different style than I have ever seen before. Growing up in Corpus Christi and living in the Rio Grande Valley for a while that is a little different but looks fantastic. I will have to try that at home. 👍🏻
thank you
DUDE!!! I want to come cook with you! Love your channel. I especially love your Al Pastor recipe. We recently purchased a home in San Miguel De Allede and have fallen in love with the gringas at one particular taco truck.
That Guidado looks delicious, I'll perfer it for breakfast with flour tortillas and salsa 🤤
Wow! This looks sooo good!!! You’re a wonderful teacher. Thanks so much for your video.🙏
Thanks, keep sharing those Tex-Mex home recipes
For sure
I can't wait to try this! Carne guisada is one of the things I never got the hang of. After watching several recipe videos,I think my problem was when I added the flour. Thank you for sharing!
Man Arnie this looks great. My mom and grandma have made carne guisada all the time and I just finally tried it last year and I’m hooked! Such a great meal to enjoy. Go Texas!
That looks awesome. My family has been making carne guisada for years but we’ve been cheating and using a mix we buy and the Mexican super market. We love it, but this seems to be made with much more love.
Thank you for sharing.
