I have that Sabrent Cloner and it's amazing. Built like a tank! I wouldn't recommend anyone to install a full sized SSD on their Legion Go however. Not only is heat an issue but to now have to cut and alter the design not to mention install the SSD with nothing securing it in place is just amateur, no matter how bad you want the 4TB. This video is just to show you that anything is possible but it doesn't mean it's proper or safe for your device. It's a portable device guys, if 2TB isn't enough then you're not doing it right..

Have you done this yourself ? If so - what were the temps of the SSD? I believe stock SSD can also be quite toasty when stressed with data r/w

I got 1.5TB MicroSD + 2TB 2242, I leave my on 24/7...no issues, purchased it 4mo ago. I can wait for 4TB 2242 when market is ready for it.

Macrium Reflect would automatically expand the cloned partition. Just select option expand/shrink to new size during cloning proces.

It might not void the warranty, Lenovo sells spare parts and I think the rear cover, off hand iirc, cost about 80-ish bucks.
I have the 2280 adapter that sits your SSD over the battery but I had to cut a section out of the plate above it so my back cover can fit. The WiFi plate costs about 30usd iirc.
If you're worried about SSD temps then wrap it with the same type of wrap that was on the original SSD and get more of the black carbon transfer pad that's taped to both the SSD and the WiFi plate.

Can you share your final design & temperature results ? Believe, some extra heat transfer tape wouldnt do much as heat needs to be dissipated somewhere and escape the device....

There's a 3d printed battery plate now on AliExpress that has the opening to seat the SSD, I can't post the link.
It sells for 4 bucks. I haven't installed my 2280 yet and it's just a gen 3 drive.

Adapting a 4T disk is an interesting mod, but I would combine it with an extra airy 3d printed backplate from Ali. Adapting the original wouldn't be my cup of tea. Besides running parts too hot does impact the live of the device, but nothing lasts for ever anyway.

I bought a custom Battery Cover with a extended nvme adaptor 2242 -> 2280 so you dont have to cut anything. You simply exchange the battery cover with a gap/cut out to place in an 2280 nvme drive and put the stock back plate back on the legion go. no warranty lost. Also i bought a Lexar NQ790 2TB SSD which is the fastest with the lowest price. All together i came to about 120 swiss franks which is about equal in USD. Thanks Ali Express and Amazon.

Please remember after removing the battery connector, to press the Power button, as residual electricity could create a short circuit

Anything under 70-80C is fine for an NVME drive. PCIe Gen 4 drives run a little warmer than earlier drives too btw. Good video.

Does this adapter properly support PCIe4.0? I also purchased the same product and measured the p31 2TB speed and it only showed 800mbs. So I refunded the money and repurchased a sintech product.

Many thanks for your nice video, i'm looking to upgrade my Legion Go like you did with 4TB nvme drive too. It helps me a lot.
May I ask you if you finally get in troubles with the fact that the new drive is not screwed ?
Also, did you noticed a difference on the autonomy and power consumption ?

You could have just use a nipper since it's just a plastic. No need for a power tool.

Thank you for the video tutorial. I appreciate the pace, thoroughness and honesty. My m.2 crashed on my LEGO and was thinking about going to 4tb using that adapter but I decided to go with 2tb 2242 instead. Still I will keep up with your tutorial cause I may decide to go with a upgrade down the line.

Why does manufacturers put an unpopular small SSD size while they can fit a whole 2280 size ssd inside? I don't get it. That is such a big factor for people who already have 2-4 TB ssd purchased

What is put in p3 but gen 3 will there be an huge gap in fps? Since gen 3 usually is lower temp and cheaper... But compared to gen 4 mostly the fps is sacred thats why i ask...?

anyone tested the ssd temperatur with this mod? I got my Legion go and the stock SN740 512GB goes crazy. After a fully win11 recovery and install games (pluged) the ssd stay over 100 C. That makes me worrying about using 2280 adapter and a even higher speed ssd.
