  • A debate of "Apostolic Doctrine" widely accepted in the United Pentecostal Church. While neither Jay nor Scot are theologians, they both have wide experience with "Apostolic Doctrine." This is a civil debate that may help viewers clarify their positions about the Bible, faith, and doctrines.

Great job Jay. Scripture supports what you are saying.

Its a revelation to understand the plan of salvation. Faith alone will not reveal it, you need to ask, seek and knock to find it and God will reveal this to you.

It is apparent Loyd doesn’t know what being born again means.

Loyd do you believe a person must turn from sin “repent” to be saved?
Do you believe one must receive the Holy Spirit to be saved?
Do you believe it’s a sin to not be baptized?

It’s not once saved always saved. I’m being saved. I won’t know 100% until I’m in front of God if I’m saved.

Lloyd mentions Romans, all who call upon the name of the Lord will be saved. What about Matt 7:7 Not all who call upon my name will be saved?

Scot, I would come down almost 100% on your side of this debate. That said, I disagree with your take on the inerrancy (or rather, lack thereof) of Scripture. However, Jay, while claiming to believe in Scripture's inerrancy, contradicts it at nearly every turn by claiming that it says things that it doesn't say. You said in your closing statement that Jay "continues to make arguments from the Bible" and that that was an example of circular reasoning. I would argue that precisely zero of Jay's arguments actually come from the Bible, but rather from the mouth of his pastor, who got those arguments from the mouth of his pastor, and so on. You did a great job of pointing out the inconsistencies in Jay's (and by proxy the UPCI/oneness) position, and did so with grace (that you didn't have to earn, by the way! 😉) and humility.
Jay, if you read this comment, thanks for agreeing to be a part of this, and I hope you come back for Round 2! Not a lot of oneness folks do these anymore after David Bernard's and Roger Perkins' horrendous showings against James White a few years back. It shows moxy on your part, and you, like Scot, handled yourself with grace and humility.

Actually Jay was correct on every point, he pointed out what it means to be born again. He also pointed out the huge problem with believing Acts 2:38 was only to those who crucified Jesus by pointing out the examples of Cornelius household and the disciples of John the Baptist.

Great discussion. Scot what do you mean when you say that you accept the scripture not as infallible but only as authoritative?

Thank you for the question and the opportunity to clarify. What I mean by this is that I don't have to believe the Bible is true in every aspect of congruency, history, science or otherwise for me to accept it as an authoritative source of wisdom, guidance, and instruction in aspect of my Christian faith and spirituality.

Loyd, you stated Acts 2:38 was for those that felt guilty for killing Jesus? Was the house hold of Cornelius guilty of killing Jesus, were the disciples of John the Baptist, guilty of killing Jesus. Both of these groups have individuals were baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and spoken tongues when they were filled with the Holy Ghost. Which is exactly what acts 2:38 says.

This kind of gotcha questions from Loyd about the 1:42 mark is just disingenuous. Mr Loyd sir you lost this debate fair and square.
