Thank you for including a variety of photos without any post-processing. Most reviews I've seen so far shared processed images or only show one type of image, which isn't really helpful when you're trying to figure out how good the sensor is. Have you noticed any overheating with this camera? Some people have started to complain about it recently while others seem to have had no issue?
Looks more like an upgrade on the RP rather than the R, the body design of the R8 is just like the RP. Looks like a great update but is just missing a focus toggle button like on the RP. I have an RP and I do miss that functionality.
It is very similar in design to the EOS RP - VERY, but it's technically replacing the EOS R in the range, with the R now discontinued and the RP still sitting lower down in terms of specs and price point. I also very much missed the focus toggle button on this camera! When using the viewfinder to compose it's so much easier to quickly change AF points with a toggle. Thanks for watching! :D
I hope the neewer and other 3rd party vertical grips for the RP also work on the canon R8!I wish they had an SD card extender cable that allowed sd card access from the grip itself. that's the only downside of the 3rd party vertical grips.
Good video. I am getting it (with 24-50) because its 300grams lighter than others and compliments my R5 - I will use it for for hiking. [And it has better video than the Sony.]. The 24-50 will be great for hanging around my neck and keeping up with my non photography friends while hiking.
Thank you for watching! Sounds like a perfect second camera for you. I know the pain of trying to keep up with non-photography friends... especially when they don't realise I've stopped to take some photos 😅 The day turns into a series of short jogs!
Batter is good for an 1 and 20 minutes? wtf SONY mirrorless camera a7c lasts 6-7 hours hands down some fucking bullshit you can't work with a camera that can't be used for several hours not purchasing that's a huge deal breaker plus no ibis fuck this body!
Does this new Canon have exposure bracketing? Ive only had Nikon and I do use that feature. Also looking to upgrade my dslr to a full frame and this and sony have been what Im researching. Thank you for the great video.!
I do not understand why they call something this good as an 'entry level', and the drawbacks to certain people I personally don't see. • I got this for 4K video and fully intend to use a tripod for video anyway and if I seriously wanted run and gun type video I'd look to a tripod or later, perhaps a DJI or something. The video quality for something this price range is also incredible, it's as good as professional. • image stabilisation is just a gimmick, I've learned over time that as a photographer going from 5D Mark III, there really is nothing in that for me. The fact I've just saved a lot of money as a result of that, I'm delighted, it's not going to have any bearing on me. • about the only drawback for me is perhaps the battery life, but having extra batteries for professional work, it's not the end of the world, just like swapping out an SD card for another. So having 1 SD card slot is hardly some deal breaker, it's not the end of the world. All in all, I'm gobsmacked at the price, the camera is as good as professional, how could it not be if it's a step up from my 5D Mark III I've had since 2015 and still fully intend to use going forward? I decided to make the jump since they're discontinuing, I needed something that allows me to take 4K as well so I can easily switch between 4K video and taking photographs and for pet and landscape photography, this is going to work wonders for me, especially the movement technology, which you can understand is a massive plus when it comes to my pet shoots. Given that I've got all my Canon EF lenses and do have certain third party lenses like my Sigma sport lens, it's perfect. Again, I cannot say this enough, don't be put off by the words that it's "entry level," take this from me who is someone going from a professional full-frame camera, there's nothing "entry" about this. I suppose if you're comparing to the more expensive models, sure, but who in the consumerist market is going to spend that amount on a camera? They aren't. I even had a dentist asking and contemplating on some £600 digital camera because it's steep for the average person taking pictures on holiday, etc. I really cannot wait to get out there shooting with this camera.
Hope you love using your new EOS R8 - thanks for watching! We say that this is the new "entry into the EOS R system" - it's an entry point to full-frame mirrorless, not necessarily an "entry-level" camera, which would be something more akin to the EOS R50 (at least in the current lineup).
The key differences between the two models will come down to your intended use and you'll need to consider the below. If indoor low-light is a priority then between these two models you'd want to be looking at the R8. The two do handle differently though, so maybe your consideration should be R8 vs R6 Mark II? We have some side by side comparisons on our blog write up: www.wilkinson.co.uk/new-from-canon-eos-r8-eos-r50-cameras/ R8 vs R7 below: -Resolution: 24.2MP vs 32.5 MP - Sensor Size: Full frame vs APS-C - Weather Sealing: Some vs professional grade - Size: 132.5 × 86.1 × 70.0 mm vs 132.0 x 90.4 x 91.7 - Weight: 414g vs 530g - Low light performance: the R8 is much better in low light with higher ISO and reduced noise vs EOS R7 as well as better low-light autofocus.
Batter is good for an 1 and 20 minutes? wtf SONY mirrorless camera a7c lasts 6-7 hours hands down some fucking bullshit you can't work with a camera that can't be used for several hours not purchasing that's a huge deal breaker plus no ibis fuck this body!
In a word... yes. But, what's better in terms of side by side specs and what's better in terms of what suits _your_ photography, can be quite different! The EOS R8 outperforms the EOS RP in almost every area. But that doesn't mean that the EOS RP isn't still a good (and more affordable) entry into full frame mirrorless. The EOS R8 has vastly improved AF, improved video, faster shutter speed and continuous shooting options, so if you're likely to benefit from this - for example if you are photographing moving subjects a lot or want the best and most intelligent autofocus for a range of situations or if you have more of an interest in video - then you're going to want the EOS R8. If you predominantly shoot still scenes / landscapes and video isn't a key factor for you, then the EOS RP is still a very capable, small and light full frame mirrorless camera, which will save you some money to invest in lenses.
@@WilkinsonCameras Thank you very much for your very comprehensive answer. I don't make videos, only photos. So in terms of image rendering, since the R8 has the same sensor as the R6 MII, the R8 should therefore have better image rendering than the RP, right ? In terms of dynamics and colorimetry ?
@@PHILGOODOK1 in terms of dynamic range, the R8 is superior, but colour depth you would be unlikely to see the difference between them and if you look at test scores in this area, they perform very similarly. But yes, dynamic range is much improved on the EOS R8. If you want a light weight, full frame camera with a few more features and therefore a bit more future-proofing and your budget allows then I would personally choose the R8 over the RP.
@@WilkinsonCameras Thank you very much for your answer. I already have the RP for two years, and so I thought to replace it with this new R8. But if you tell me that in terms of image rendering I wouldn't see a big difference between the two, then I'll wait for an RP MII if Canon releases one...

We’re seeing if we can address some issues raised with the S5 II video. Unfortunately it’s had to go on the back burner due to the Canon launch - it will be back though once issues have been addressed. I wouldn’t necessarily say that no IBIS makes a camera unusable, particularly one with good low light capabilities. But when there’s other options at that price point with IBIS… it’s certainly worth considering your options.
