@@nickdual Grateful. Thank you!
Great review. I love my R8. Two firsts for me - my first full-frame camera and my first mirrorless camera. It pairs well with my new 200-800 lens for birds, although I'll have more opportunities to capture them in the Spring.
@@jeffgaboury3157 Still waiting to try out that 200-800. It looks excellent! Thanks for the kind words!
@@KevinDeal You're very welcome! I think you'll enjoy the 200-800. It's an amazing performer!
I recently purchased a R8 after trading in my original 5D Mk1, 40D, and a couple of “L”lenses that I didn’t use much. I kept three. I also got the EF to RF adapter and I am please with the results of the 24-70 on the the R8. Much more testing needed using the 100-400 mk1 for wildlife photography. Thanks for review!
You're welcome! Enjoy!
At last a real world scenario review! Thanks for this!
Glad you liked it!
Yes, It's at the top of my list. Kinda waiting for the Z6iii but I'm heading to Alaska this spring. Thanks for putting Gabby in the mix. Wow! what an amazing model.
Have fun in Alaska!
Love the shots of downtown. Good stuff man 😎🤘🏼
Appreciate it!
Great review. I picked up an R8 about a month ago and am very happy with all aspects of its performance.
I own an R5 and I can tell you that this camera can hang with it in many areas. R8 owners have it pretty good.
Just bought a refurbished R8 as a back-up to my R5, which I use primarily for wildlife. I don't always feel comfortable taking my R5 for everyday or travel photography, and I really like the idea of a lower-profile body paired with the smaller STM lenses for those occasions. Or even the RF 14-35 seems like a natural pairing. Thanks for an excellent review.
Thanks!
I've been leaving my R5 at home a lot lately. The R8 simply does what I need it to do at way less weight and size.
Very comprehensive review, one of the best for the R8
thank you!
Thank you for this review . I currently have a 6d Mark II with the 24 - 105 lens. It is heavy and I am looking at the R8 as a replacement. This review has definitely help me make the switch.
Happy to help. The R8 is such a light camera.
I rented the R7 to try with a color run and it definitely feels and sounded less solid, but the images out of it were gorgeous. While I was there with you in Dallas, I have to say the R8 was pretty impressive and for events or going places that you don't want to bring your super expensive cameras, I think it definitely works great! The images you took looked amazing and are portfolios for working models so, you certainly justified the R8 being able to be used by professionals for professional purposes. On the streets where you have no idea who or what you'll run into i like the idea of having a lower cost camera that still does a great job!
The low light performance and weight is making me think of leaving the R5 at home when I visit other cities to shoot models. The shots looked fantastic. Speaking of fantastic. Awesome video work! Wish I had a bad ass videographer with me on every shoot. Looks way more professional.
Thank you for this thorough and insightful review. I just sold my old R for $900 and purchased the R8 for $1299. This feels like a major upgrade. I shoot weddings and event with an R6 M2 and the OG R6. Actually use the R6 for most of my work with the 28-70mm. The R8 seems like an incredible value proposition as a second body.. I don’t like the battery size. Heck I started my journey shooting weddings with a RP. A single card slot and a pocket full of off band NC-17 batteries. The. M6M2 was my back up. Great content. I will be pairing the R8 with the 24 or 35mm as a second camera.
The battery life sucks but the batteries are so tiny it’s not a big deal. Usually. But you shoot weddings, and that would make it a huge deal.
Thanks for the watch!
Canon were killing it with their APSC R bodies and then the R6ii and this R8. Let’s see what they have cooked up this year. I’d love to pick up an R3 / R6ii to pair with the R7. Not sure why TH-cam didn’t notify me but great content!
Not sure why they didn't notify you, but I appreciate that you have notifications turned on for my channel.
I have a feeling there are going to be big announcements this month. What? I have no idea. I'm hoping it's a new R5.
Very nice review! 😁👌
Thank you very much!
very good review. thanks
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching!
Awesome review!
Thank you for the kind words!
I have used mine about three months now and I love it. Definitely a great deal for me.
Love mine.
Getting one now! Great work.
Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks for this review! You put some concerns I had in good light. The battery is the major issue I have. It could be useful for me in several ways, as I could keep in my car as a wildlife camera with the 800f11. I already have an r5 and an r7, so I probably won’t get this unless I can get it for a steal type price. Now, though, I feel better about recommending it to people who need an inexpensive body to get into photography with, and Canon did an excellent job with this as an entry level full frame body! My first full frame was an EOS 6D and the r8 just blows it completely out of the water! Wow. Thanks.
Having a different model battery was less of a big deal than I thought it would be. But I definitely erred to air out the facts because it would be a dealbreaker for some.
Thanks for watch!
Great review! I bought R8 after tried many others cameras. Like S5II for example, and Sony A7 III. I prefer the compact size, IQ, and ergonomy of this Canon R8. I paired it with the 35mm f1.8 which is brillant for street photography. I come from micro four thirds, that I've used during 5 years. I'm very happy with this new kit.
congrats! It's a fine camera!
Got an R8 and love it. Have R7 too so first full frame camera so it is great.
Love the R8. Solid camera.
I recently moved to the R8 from a 5D Mark III which I'd used since 2012 (and other Canon film/digital SLRs dating back to the mid-90s). The change was prompted by the loss of my 24-70mm F2.8L lens (error 01) and a pet dog that moves so fast and erratically that the 5D's AF couldn't keep up. And wow, things have changed a bit. I always felt like I was the photographer in control of my gear, but now with this new camera, I feel like it's doing the driving and I'm just going along for the ride, ha ha ha. It's basically a computer with a lens attached now.
For roughly the same money I spent on *just* the 5D III body back in 2012, I got the R8, 50mm 1.8, 24-50mm kit lens, and the RF 24-105mm F4L. Wow!
We live in awesome times. It sounds like your photo life has gotten a little easier.
I've been using a T7 for nearly three years now. Shot a wedding with it. Been on all kinds of adventures. But picking up this R8 is an absolute game changer. I feel downright spoiled with this tech. Great overview man. Exactly what I was looking for.
Yeah. Jumping up from a T7 to an R8 would be a pretty amazing leap. Thanks for the kind words!
Excellent review
Thank you!
Nice! You got that refurb deal. That sold out fast. I picked up a new R8 for $1,200 during Black Friday. I’m adapting my old 40/2.8, but I def want a RF 35/1.8. Nice small camera.
35 1.8 is probably the best value in the RF lineup.
I've owned an R8 for a month or so now and I wouldn't go back to anything else! The AF is truly incredible, I can shoot 40FPS completely silently, and it's compact enough to bring with me everywhere with the 28mm F2.8.
The lack of a mechanical shutter I never really understood as a downside, unless you are taking photos of someone swinging a golf club it's a non-issue.
I always struggled with people changing how they are acting as soon as I pulled a camera out and started taking pictures, but now that I can do that in a subtle way my photos have gotten even better! Sure you could always use electronic mode on a camera with a mechanical shutter, but that makes the camera even bigger. If you want that, buy an R6 II and not the R8!
I agree with your insights! Thanks for the watch!
Fantastic video 🤩 the Canon R8 is PHENOMENAL 📸😍
what lens did you use for the photos with the model the night with the beautiful bokeh behind him at high iso ?
It was the 135 1.8 and 50 1.2.
As fate would have it I ordered the R8 to back up my R5 a couple hours prior to watching your review. Thanks for making me feel good about my decision
Hope you enjoy it! Full disclosure. Sometimes I leave my R5 at home and get perfectly amazing work done with my R8.
Thanks for the kind words!
Great review. I upgraded from an RP about a month ago and was surprised on how much better the R8 was. It gives me a lot more ability to create, especially with the autofocus and video upgrades. Also, some smaller pros for this camera. 1. File transfer to mobile, you can simply connect a usbc cable and open up your apple photos app and import, super fast for raw and 4K video, and no need to connect and maintain a slow WiFi connection with the canon app. 2. Connecting this to your computer for video conferencing, again no need to use canon software (webcam utility) anymore, just connect the usbc and it works everytime.
Lastly, one of my must haves for the RP/R8 is the Sunwayfoto PCL-RP dedicated L bracket for extra grip for your pinky. Made of metal, really solid, doesn’t add much weight, helps provide more balance to heavier L glass like the 50 1.2, provides Arca Swiss, and it’s 2 piece so you can remove the portrait orientation portion of the bracket. It provides more functionality and flexibility than the canon eos rp additional grip and it’s $20 cheaper.
All great points! Need to look into that L bracket. Thanks for the watch!
I sold my RP because I could not stand the awful skin tones. Sometimes they were ok but too often they would be deep orange or too magenta and I had to spend ages in post, still unable to fully correct them, even though I only shoot RAW. Have you found any improvement with the R8 sensor? Or no change?
@@Muchtoobizy I've been happy with the skin tones on the R8.
@@KevinDeal Thank you. I hope it works for me too.
Hey Kevin! Great review on the camera, I'm loving everything about my R8 except for the lackluster battery life. I was wondering, what is the equipment you were using for flash photography when you were shooting the model in low light? Thanks!
I agree about the battery life. At least the batteries are tiny, not too expensive and fit in your pocket.
To your question. Those are Stella Pro Reflex lights. They are fairly niche, in that you would only use them at dusk or at night. They are not as powerful as traditional strobes. In the video, I was testing those out to see if I wanted to purchase a couple. I did end up purchasing them. Should have them arrive in a couple weeks and I will absolutely do a review on them.
This is my planned upgrade camera!
My camera is old and I have outgrown it.. EOS 450D Xsi. Flashback from 2008 😂.
Can't wait to upgrade to this great camera. Just trying to decide if I should add a higher quality lens to my kit first.
My answer is always “yes” to new lenses. The older EF glasses look amazing on the newer cameras. The new RF glass takes advantage of the resolution of the newer sensors.
Great review
Thanks!
Yep, seems like the R8 would be a great second body to my R6. Thanks again!
You bet!
I like it when you say "shame on you"🤣
You deserve more subscribers👍
Thanks!
Great breakdown
Thank you.
Changed my R10(with kit lens) to R8 with an RF 35mm f1.8. I absolutely love the change. I feared it will not a significant upgrade but i totally falled in love @ R8. I loved the R10, great picture quality @ daylight, but i wanted uncropped 4k/60fps video and better night pictures / videos. Exactly i got what i wanted. Anyone want to buy this i totally recommend, but with minimum +1 but i prefer +2 more LP-E17 accu for it, becouse thats this cameras weakest point, if you travel and shoot / video all day you will need 3 or maybe 4 LP-E17 totally, but i recommend this camera for travel becouse of it's size and its moderated price, it's little and great :)
This camera has quickly become my favorite video camera, despite not having IBIS. I just make sure to pair it up with an image stabilized lens and I'm good to go.
Is there a way to have an external power source keep this plugged into... Like hook it up to an external battery source?
@@valdemar1999 Are you talking about a DC brick or a dummy battery? For video, I use it with a dummy battery. It plugs right into the wall.
Thanks bro...do u have link for this dummy battery? Amazon or another place?
@@valdemar1999 Here you go

There's a curtain that you can enable to drop to cover the sensor when you're changing lens. You just need to perform a "clean sensor now" and turn off the camera as soon as you hear it click.
I tried that. It worked. Being that you have to time it correctly, is that a true function of the camera or are you simply turning it off while it's trying to do something else? It seems like the latter. I wonder if there are any consequences in doing so.
Nonetheless, thank you for informing me about this. I learned something new today.
Another nice review!
Thank you. And thanks for your OG support since I launched my channel!
I should be getting mine tomorrow 5/14. Can't wait. This will be my first mirrorless.
You picked an amazing first mirrorless. It’s going to give you years of happiness.
I bought the R8 for my daughter as a gift. She’ll be opening it up in a week. I knew the “cons” going in but it’s full frame and on sale too at 1199 :)
@@Smart-Alex What a cool gift. Bravo
@@KevinDeal 🤜
I just bought the R8. My usual subjects are sports BUT I have gotten tired of my crop sensor and i want to photograph my kids more.
Got one brand new for 1299 and an open box RF 70-200 2.8 for 2100. Both from crutchfield, so im super excited for later this year.
Prior camera was a 7D mk1. So...just a small jump.
Note about the electronic shutter: all of the tests and images i saw, the image loss going to that was minimal at best.
Congrats on your purchase! That’s going to pair well with the 70-200.
The R8 will shoot beautiful landscapes.
Very nice review. I don't think the R8 was meant to be the EOS R replacement, more likely was intended to be the RP replacement.
It has the same body as the RP, the launch price was much closer to the RP that the R and the R was the main "flagship" camera of the RF system when it was released and the RP came later as a cheaper version. Just like the R8 is the cheaper version of the R6. I think the real R replacement was the R5.
I feel like the R was more of a placeholder while they made the R5 and R6.
@@KevinDeal I agree. Probably the best they could do until the R5 was ready 2 years after.
It’s an updated RP. I use it with FD S.S.C. glass on vacations. It’s a sleeper.
RP’s are fantastic.
First of all I'd like to say very good through review of the camera. Thanks a lot! Secondly I'd like to ask your opinion on this camera. I'm a fairly long time Canon DSLR shooter (mostly 7D) and I'm about to switch over to mirrorless. Full frame isn't a must have but while I'm making a change I'd like to switch over to FF finally as well. I'm not a pro by all means but when I do something I'd like to do it as best as I can. I mostly shoot birds like seagulls which doesn't really count as wildlife in my opinion, outdoor sports like soccer, voleyball or tennis and a little bit of macro. With my new camera I'd like to take a serious step into portrait photography as well. The setup I have in mind, at least to start off, is Canon R8 with Canon 24-105L f4, 50mm f1.8 stm using the adaptor. What do you think of this setup? Autofocus is important and I'm a bit worries about using adapters.
With the 24-105, I’m not sure it’s going to be long enough to shoot sports and seagulls. You may want to look at something longer. Now 105 might be long enough on a crop body. So like your 7D you could look into an R7. The R7 is basically the mirrorless replacement for the 7D. I did a three part before of the R7. Here’s the link to it, in case you’re interested. If that’s too much also check out my review of the R50.

@@KevinDeal Thanks for the quick reply and suggestion. I will watch it for sure. To be honest I have been looking at the R7 for even longer than R8. I decided on R8 mainly because I want to get into portrait photography a bit more seriously and want a full frame. As for 105mm not being long enough let me just say I will be fine to start with and eventually I will be buying a 70-200 lens. I hope for f2.8 but it might be f4 to start with.
One thing that worries me a bit is using an EF-R mount adaptor. I heard it slows down the autofocus considerebly on a few places. Do you have any experience with this?
I'm getting this camera next month.
I would love an all arounder lens since I guess I'm a semi beginner, not a lot of experience but I know my way around a camera.
I was thinking about a rf 24-70 2.8f as my only lens for now, get my bearings, and see where I go from there.
What do you think about that lens?
How well will it do in low light situations?
Would you recommend something else as an all around lens?
Maybe but a couple of primes instead?
Thanks a lot, great video!
Thank you for the kind words.
Because of the R8’s excellent noise handling, I think 2.8 is fine. Personally I went for the 28-70 f2 because I wanted that extra stop of light and more shallow depth of field.
Hi Kevin,
Really enjoyed your informative video. I am thinking of getting the R8 soon. Could you kindly recommend a few non L lenses for the R8?
I am interested in street photography, landscape photography & astrophotography (aspire to). I am currently considering getting the RF 35mm f1.8 (walkaround lens) & the RF 50mm f1.8 (portraits). Would you recommendation the RF 16mm f2.8 for astrophotography or do you have better alternatives in mind.
I think your trio of lenses is a good choice. I have reviewed both the RF35 1.8 and 16 2.8 on this channel. Both are amazing for everything you are looking to use them for. I’m currently working on my review of the 50 1.8. I can’t comment on Astro though with any of the lenses, as I did not test for them for it. The R8 should be amazing at Astro because of how well it handles at night.
The 35 is what I would start with. Here’s my review if you have time to watch it. Thank you for the support!

@KevinDeal thanks a lot for your feedback Kevin!!
I don't consider the LP-E17 battery as a negative. On the contrary, it's so small and light that you can easily take one extra with you and it makes the camera smaller and lighter. In real world shooting is enough for 400-500 shots or even more.
I love the size.
I have R50 R10 & R8 I had the R7 sold it too much noise with the sensor in my opinion and don't need a sports camera any more. The R8 files remind me of the R6 original and 1D Mk iii, hard to put my finger on it but all these sensors produced a certain look that i like so the R8 is may favourite camera at the moment and the fact that it has the R6 Mkii sensor is a big plus.
As much as I love my R5, the R8 is a better walk around camera. So much lighter.
And yes, the sensor (to me) makes this camera worth the price.
I have the R50 as well. Hope to have that review out before the end of the year.
I have an M50 and M6 Mark ii. I love the ergonomic of the M50. Love smaller cameras. Added the R8 over Christmas. Will slowly add lenses. Thank you for your thorough review and lens recommendations in the comments.
You’re welcome. I just shot a studio session today with the R8 and left my R5 at home. Nobody noticed. It’s a killer camera.
Hi Kevin, me too, iam doing Christening weddings, architectural with the small and great R8, bought as a personal camera to replace my RP but now has become a camera for personal+profesional, nice review! @@KevinDeal
@@GeorgeFotiadisPhotography thank you! Enjoy your R8!

You can lock the shutter down for lens changes by manually initiating sensor cleaning mode and turning the camera off. You could wait til the first click, but you probably don't have to.
It’s not designed to do that though. Having to time your turn off time is not a feature, right?
@@KevinDeal yeah, may not be the something to recommend to do all of the time. But if it's critical, at least it's an option. I've never had a real need to do it, but the handful of times I've done it on my RP and R8, it didn't seem to cause any apparent issues.
@@malmedia Sounds like it will work in a punch, which is great. I still wish it were a feature.
Love your reviews. I'm having a great deal of difficulty trying to decided between the R7 and R8. Which do you think is the better camera overall?
I own both. If you shoot sports and wildlife or you do lots of handheld video without a gimbal, the R7 is a better camera for those applications.
If you do literally anything else, the R8 is superior in every way. Better AF. Better low light performance. Larger sensor size (not to be confused with megapixels). It has the EXACT same sensor as the R6 MKII. It renders skin tones much better than the R7.
@@KevinDeal Thank you very much for your thoughtful and quick reply.
@@jkhouryns you're welcome
Hi, I'm looking for advice, R8 vs X-T5. My main uses will be landscape and travel photography.
Both cameras will do a fantastic job for landscapes, so no matter which you choose, you made a great choice. Both cameras are a great size for traveling.
The advantages of the XT5 are that it has more megapixels. So if you intend to make large prints with or want to crop your landscape shots, the higher mega pixel count of the XT5 will allow you to do that more than the R8. The XT5 also has film simulations, which will give you inspiring looking colors right at the camera. If you don't like to spend a lot of time editing, Fuji is good for this. One thing to consider about the XT5 is that if you find yourself shooting in extremely low light (not necessarily an issue for landscapes but maybe while traveling) it is a crop sensor and one of the shortcomings of crops is that you run into noise a little sooner in poorly-lit environments.
The advantage of the R8 is it has much superior autofocus. While that won't be a huge advantage when shooting landscapes, it will come in handy on vacation if you want to take a sudden shot of something that's moving or you're on a tourist bus and you see something suddenly pop up as you're passing by and your window to shoot it is fast, the R8 is a better camera for that. I find the button layout and comfort of holding the R8 to be better as well. The R8 also takes beautiful landscapes, and as long as you don't need to crop heavily or make enormous prints, it has enough megapixels to get you by. The R8 is an amazing camera in low light. Clean files, for sure. It's a full frame, which gives it an advantage over the Fuji in low light.
At the end of the day, both cameras are excellent choices
@@KevinDeal Thank you very much! But I'm still lost 😊 I gonna need to meditate on that.
If you were going to purchase this as an all around camera for your family to use, what lens would be the best option? Family portraits, vacactions and the like?
It depends on your budget. I would just do the 24-105 f4 as a starter. Not perfect for anything but great at everything.
Great review. I picked the r8 recently. I got the one with the kit 24-50 and the 100-400. Yesterday I picked the 85 f2 but worried about trying it. Would I be better off with something else. I’m a noob and as much as I want an l lens I can’t justify the prices
Those lenses take great pictures. You say you’re a noob. Those lenses are perfect for where you are. If you start making good money with your photography or make large prints, then it’s time to step up to the more expensive lenses.
Nice video..What is the price of a refurbished R8 ? Which card should I use? Please respond
They are sold out at the moment of refurbished, but $1079. I personally use Sony Tough cards.
I just got the r8 2 days ago and didn’t like there’s no dedicated iso button and then realized it’s on the touch screen. Really like the jpegs it produces too.
I minor inconvenience but I agree with you. Would have been cool to have a dedicated button.
Any RF lens has a control ring, you could change the setting so that turning the control ring adjusts ISO for you
@@DigitalN i just got the 28 2.8 and found that out. very useful!
Should say 6D not R6, i also think the R50 is a really great camera for the price and light weight used the R50 with the 24-105 non L (i have both versions of the 24-105) when i was at a wedding as a guest, was very pleased with the results
Yeah. I'm excited to do my R50 review. I bought it to just be a static shot in my studio for my You Tube channel but I figured I might as well do a review of it too. It has been impressing me throughout the process.
Hello Kevin. Thank you for the video, it's very good. A question please, because the R8 is not so good for landscape, because you said it is good for portrait, street, but little for landscape. I was considering buying it for landscape but apparently you don't recommend it very much. Can you help me because it's not good for landscape, please?
The R8 is excellent for landscapes if you don't need to make large prints. The sensor is beautiful. But if you make really large prints, you may want to look into something with more megapixels, like the R5.
Obrigado! 🇧🇷👍

The R has more megapixels and you can find it a bit cheaper. Beyond that the R8 is a better camera in every way. Better AF. Better low light performance. It’s lighter. I think skin tones look better on the R8. I used to own the R.
Just bought it
Congrats!
What’s the big deal about full hdmi? Also would usb c be better. Now days all the phones and laptops are using that. I assume it’s the standard now. Unless file transfer isn’t as fast as hdmi.
The big deal about not having a full sized HDMI port is that full-sized is more robust. Micro and Mini HDMI cables can rip out much easier. That USB port is attached to the mother board of the camera. So if you have any issues with the HDMI port breaking it's likely going to completely kill your camera to the point where a repair costs as much as a new camera.
It's harder to bend a full sized HDMI connector, because they are larger and better protected.
What lens did you use for the portraits
I used a few lenses throughout the episode.
For the female model in the studio, that was all the RF28-70 f/2. For the night shots with the male model, it was mainly the RF135 f/1.8. For the second male model outdoors (middle of the day) it was a combination of the RF135 f/1.8 and the RF50mm f/1.2.
Hope that helps!
I have paired my R8 with the RP battery grip and it cures the small battery problem, plus I use it with the RF 800 f11 and have no problem with getting great shots or with too much noise. I only took up photography in June 2023 as a retirement hobby, so I am not very experienced..ps, great review, thanks Kevin.
Congrats on retirement. The R8 is an insanely good camera for the money.

I advise anyone to turn off the Focus Preview in the R50 as it drains battery power and with lens like the 85mm f2 it drove me nuts as it kept refocusing even when you were not touching any button on the camera. Think its the purple menu number 2 if i remember correctly
Sound advice.
HOLA.
u can drop the r7 iso further more...if u set the shutter from 1/2000s from shooting a static bird subject...1/2000s is too fast
You could. The idea of the exercise was to stretch it and compare. With the bird sitting on the log with IS on the lens and IBIS in the R7 I probably could have done that shot at like 1/250.
Either way, the R8 was noticeably better at ISO 10,000 than the R7 was at ISO 6400. THAT was the point of the exercise. The birds were lazy and I didn't get many good shots in flight that morning.
Pássaro estático até minha Nikon P1000 se sai bem, rsrs...
As a hobbyist and father of a daughter who plays volleyball would this camera a good choice for video and photography or would you recommend another camera or brand in its price range and comparable class?
It does 40FPS which is more than enough for volleyball and it’s an incredible video camera as long as you use an image stabilized lens.
This camera would be absolutely perfect for me. Except for one thing. I absolutely H A T E when the card slot is on the bottom of the camera. I need to use a tripod for a lot of the photography I do at my workplace (photograph machinery in dimly lit shop environments). I also need to change cards quite a bit.
It's a shame because this camera is the one I would definitely go for--it's the right price. I prefer Canon and I'm currently in the market for a new camera to replace an older Lumix that is not behaving. Might have to consider an older barely-used R which is at a similar price point instead.
I feel your pain. I use it for this channel. Gotta turn my arca mount 90 degrees to get my card. Such a pain.
What should I choose between r6 mark 1 and r8 for portrait photography only?
If you're doing portrait photography only and you're using fast lenses, just get the R8. You likely don't need the IBIS. Afer that you're basically paying for a bunch of video features it sounds like you won't end up using.
The R8 has better AF and an improved sensor. It's the same sensor as the R6 MK II.
@@KevinDeal thx so much. Good job with the video, keep it up
I have RP. Got R8. Getting good photo of cat took 5 minutes instead of 1+ hour (with RP).
The AF on the R8 is a beast
😆
For short movie which one should i buy R10 or R8
Personally, I would get the R8 because it shoots in CLOG, which gives you more control over your video colors. I can get the R8 to match my R5 footage, which costs 3X more.
Why nobody Talks about the flash adapter Ad-E1 ?
My understanding is that it is for adapting legacy products. I don’t own any. All my modern speed lights and triggers work on my R8.
I moved from 6d to R8, everything is perfect but the battery. Do you advise using a battery grip.
The batteries are so tiny I’d rather just keep one in my pocket or bag. I personally don’t like battery grips. Does canon make one for the R8?
i've heard that some third party compaines made grip for canon R and its compatible with R8 as well. I suggest you to do research about that
That's the camera I almost bought, I saw it one day and then it disappeared. Now I know you bought it, LOL.
Guilty
What is that lens you have in the r8? It looks massive
I'm not sure which section you're talking about in this video. But for the wildlife section, I use the RF600mm f/11. That's the largest lens I own. It's not that heavy though.
@@KevinDealminute 27, when you are showing the camera with a small lens, I first thought it was the 24-70 but im not sure😅
@@luismanuelmendoza789 It's just the RF35 1.8 with a third party JJC lens hood on it turned around backwards.
Please dont use the flash for checking low-light performance.
The foreground subject had flash on them because they are a model with dark skin. Have you ever tried to take pictures of people with dark skin at night?
The other 90% of the scene was completely untouched by the flash. The ISO was upwards of 12,000 ISO. It's a perfectly fine low-light test.
Just look at the ambience. It tells you everything you need to know. In fact, I kept referencing the ambience in my low-light test because I knew the flash made no impact there.
@@KevinDeal Sir, it seems that you know everything about everything and you're not interested in even knowing why I said what I said.
Also, I read the comment that you deleted. I think it was rude.
I wish you good luck for future videos. Will not be commenting again.

@@KevinDeal have you ran into the heating issue with the R8?
@@chrisrussellca I'm not familiar with the heating issue. I've been shooting a lot of 4K 30FPS oversampled with it. It is winter here, so maybe I will encounter it in the summer. But I have yet to run into it. What is the scenario in which it is usually happening?
@@KevinDeal you’ll see it when you’re filming 4K60 after 10-20 minutes in avg to warm temperatures. I have my R8 on a rig with a usb fan to keep things cool. I can get 45-90 minutes on 4K60 with the small 80mm usb PC fan.
@@chrisrussellca so it basically has the same issue that the R5 has. Lame. I rarely shoot 60FPS, so I'm alright most of the time, but when it gets to 108 here in Texas this summer, I will likely be singing a different tune.
R7 OR R8 BETTER for ordinary super photografer ?))
The only thing I like better about the R7 is IBIS and battery life. You can always carry and extra battery and perhaps use image stabilized lenses. Or just fast lenses at higher shutter speeds.
Personally, I use my R8 way more. So I’d go that route.
@@KevinDeal OK. Thank maaan 👍👍
@@KevinDeal, e esse ibis nem é tão bom ! Já vi testes em que a R8 vence a R7 em estabilização de vídeo, o ibis da R7 deixa o vídeo com movimentos estranhos!
no IBIS body + many good RF lens are not stabilized = limited user experience
It depends on how you're going to use it.
I've shot photography for most of my life with no IBIS or stabilized lenses. My experiences didn't feel limited.
EXCEPT IBIS, AND DUAL CARD, ALL OTHER FEATURES ARE ARE OK
I agree
Canon crippled their R8 (cardslot/battery/missing grip) otherwise people would not get the R6M2.
That’s one way to look at it. The other way to look at it is that they took those features out to make the camera $1000 cheaper. The. Those who need them and all the extra features can get the R6 MK II.
The battery choice they made for the R8 was 100% a terrible choice.
@@KevinDeal I am sorry but this is typical Canon behavior. Sony does a far better job in this department. I can’t get over the one card slot choice.
@@ZombieRofl all camera companies make baffling decisions. I hear Sony users complain all the time about things in their cameras. It just so happens that the one thing that drives you mad about Canon, they did to the R8. Trust me, there's some dude out there right now saying "I'm sorry but this is typical Sony behavior" about something that Sony does that pisses them off.
Maybe Canon just isn't a good fit for you. But it sounds like you like Sony, so at least you have that.
@@KevinDeal I’ve been a main canon shooter for 25 years now. I’ve had Nikons to, but started to hate canon for not opening their RF system to other brands.
@@ZombieRofl It would be great to see them open up the RF mount.
useless camera for video
I don't agree fully. For static shots it's great. For handheld video, not so much.
