  • This TV performance from 1988 took place more than 10 years after the band's dissolution. Therefore, in the video, neither Tommy Reynolds, who left the band in 1972, nor Alan Dennison, who left the band in 1977, are present. Despite the band's dissolution that year, Dan Hamilton and Joe Frank Carollo continued playing in Los Angeles and surrounding areas.

    I lost my innocence to this song in the 70’s. My heart sank when I heard that Dan Hamilton (lead singer), passed away in 1994 at only 48 years old. He was such a handsome man and he had such a sexy singing voice and style. Something about his voice was hypnotic and made women feel like he was singing to them. He had writing skills also. I have no doubt that he would still be performing had he not died so young.

      To Cele @@HJFRD . Thank you for commenting. What I meant by the words you mentioned, I meant that Dan lived the trends of balancing private and profession lives, an earlier divorce, dedicated hours to all his good life interests and loves. Writers spend so much time thinking, creating and composing. Different levels of stress and fatigue. Plus he put up with claims about one of his hit creations, that his wife later won a court decision on. He was a focused person and entertainer. The so called 'trends' I hastily mentioned...as life has trends for different paths of life. Dan Hamilton should have been graced with a longer and more rewarding life....had it not been for his blood disease.

    • @HJFRD
      @HJFRD  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@jimb8830 Thank you for your response; I greatly appreciate your input. I still don't fully understand how you connect all these events with each other and with his work environment. I don't believe they have any connection. While it's true that Dan went through two divorces, they don't necessarily relate to his work environment or a celebrity lifestyle trend, unless you were there with him to confirm it. Moreover, his relationships were relatively long, and maybe it was just bad luck when it came to cohabiting. Not everyone finds the right person on their first attempt. Additionally, Danny had a business and friendship relationship with the mother of his daughter; he did everything to ensure she received royalties from his music to secure his daughter's future. His last marriage lasted Dan's entire life. His last wife, with whom he lived from the age of 31, and they had been friends before, always accompanied him at his shows, and according to those who knew them well, they had a good marriage. The legal dispute over the rights to his music happened after Danny's passing, so he didn't experience it. While stress could have affected him, it's somewhat arbitrary because many people deal with stress while striving to do their best, and not everyone experiences physical illness as a result. I don't believe he should have stopped doing what he loved because of it. Probably his decision to step away from touring, screens, and that entire environment was a good choice to spend his adulthood with his family and pursue a quieter job related to music and composition. Unfortunately for us, but perhaps fortunately for him, although we wished to see him more on the big stages and hear more of his vinyl records. When he finally wanted to return to the big music leagues, he had the misfortune of developing a rare, one-in-a-million disease. It was simply bad luck.
      I can't be certain because his life was very private, but precisely because of that, I can say he was quite distant from the fame scene. His family and acquaintances remember him as a very family-oriented person who enjoyed family gatherings, home life, and was reserved. He didn't seek recognition and always went unnoticed, even in the Hollywood scene.

      @@jimb8830 Thank you!, and of course, the world of success in those years required a great effort, and the consequences were inevitable. But something that caught my attention about Danny are all the opinions of his close ones about his very discreet personality, almost anti-fame. There is no person who doesn't agree on their opinion about Danny's humility as a person. Even his friend and roadie Ronnie Rush emphasizes this in various anecdotes from his book. That's why I find it admirable on his part that success hasn't changed his human values and life philosophy.

      Thank you for your comment, there's no doubt it's a great song. In a 1971 interview with Joe Frank, he said that Don't Pull Your Love definitely filled a musical void of that time. Initially, Joe Frank was going to be the lead voice, but when the Dunhill producer and writers Lambert and Potter heard Danny's amazing voice, they had no doubt it would be a guaranteed success. On the same day they heard the band, they showed them the demo of the song, and the guys recorded the song with their instruments. • @HJFRD
      @HJFRD  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      According to Joe Frank, when he, Danny, and Tommy were at ABC Dunhill recording some demos, Joe had been the lead vocalist up to that point since the formation of The T-Bones. At one point, the demo of "Don't Pull Your Love" started playing, then again, and a third time. The guys realized it was an invitation to play the song. It was easy for them to pick up the melody, and they began to play it. The song had been offered to The Grass Roots, who worked for Dunhill, but they rejected it. It was too energetic and didn't have any breaks to catch their breath. They asked Danny to perform it, and he surprised everyone with his rendition. That was the turning point for him to become the band's lead vocalist next to Joe. According to Joe Frank, every time Danny performed the song, he ended up very exhausted. Joe said it was a really complicated song (he used a less polite word, haha). I guess that's a big reason why covers of this song don't sound pleasant to the ears at all. Danny left his definitive vocal mark on this musical composition by Lambert and Potter. Thanks to the guys, this beautiful song could see the light; it just needed someone who could tame it 😁

      @@Adkb123 I guess it's a huge compliment for Danny Hamilton. I even read many people who thought he was Elvis when they were young and thought, "This is the best Elvis song." Considering the excellent production Elvis had with all the Wrecking Crew session musicians playing for him, I think this puts Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds in an excellent musical position because they not only sang, Danny played rhythm and lead guitar, Joe Frank played bass, and Tommy played various percussion instruments, Virgil Weber played the keyboard, and Joe Correro played drums, while Sid Sharp handled the entire orchestra. Additionally, the three guys helped arrange the entire album along with Steve Barri. They knew a lot about recording from all their years in the recording studios of the 60s.

He was a complete and incredible musician who never received the necessary support from the industry, probably because he knew the ins and outs from his early work with The Ventures and producer Joe Saraceno. Since the record label wouldn't pay for further recording sessions, Dan decided to privately fund the studio time, despite the financial strain it would entail. He was a very handsome man, but unlike Elvis and Cash, I think Danny wasn't a showman and didn't want to be the frontman of his band. He always seemed a bit reserved in his performances. In fact, in his tour shows and in many of the band's photos, Danny's position was always to the side with his guitar. On TV shows, as the lead vocalist, he always had to be in the middle and in the spotlight, and that seemed to make him more nervous. I think he had the soul of a guitarist, but his amazing voice put him at the forefront. However, according to his own words, in the band everyone was equally important, and normally Joe Frank was the frontman in their shows. Maybe his reserved and low-key personality was the reason he couldn't face a solo music career, despite trying twice. He preferred to walk side by side with Joe Frank until his final years.
      And he was a virtuoso guitarist. It's a shame there aren't more videos of live shows, since Danny would play amazing guitar solos during his performances. His skill on both rhythm and lead guitar was admirable." The Ventures" met Danny at a dinner party when Danny was just 12 years old, and they were amazed by how he played the guitar, despite being self-taught, although he had taken violin lessons since he was 5 years old.

      I've really listened to many musicians from those years, even the most underrated ones. Undoubtedly, there must still be bands and musicians that I'm missing out on and would love to discover. But I must say, Dan had a unique talent. He made real music; he wasn't a showman, didn't seek the spotlight. He wanted to play music and had the gift to create the best music, and undoubtedly, he did. There must be so much music he made, so much art that we won't be able to access. I believe the best music in history is the one that was never recorded. Blessed are those who could live close to these great musicians and hear their magic every day. Perhaps they don't realize they were part of something incredible. We can only take and enjoy what they left us as a gift. I appreciate the great effort they made to record their albums because, without it, I wouldn't have enjoyed something so beautiful and unique in this short journey through life.❤🎶

    The music on this performance must have been pre-recorded as I observed the drummer doesn't match the drumming that the pre-recorded music does. The drummer doesn't match the drumming fills that are being done. Cannot tell if the vocal was also pre-recorded or was live.

      @@mackmckay588 As the video title says, the images are from the Solid Gold program in 1988, while the audio is from a re-recording of the song made in the 80s. Unfortunately, live performances were not allowed on that TV show because there was no time to rehearse and the musicians were assigned by the program and not by the band. The only band members in the video are Danny Hamilton and Joe Frank Carollo. However, I have heard an audio of them live from the same era and it sounds exactly the same, only it was recorded with a homemade cassette player and you can hear a lot of noise from the audience. I think I can upload the audio to the channel.

      @@mackmckay588 This audio is from a live show by Dan Hamilton and Joe Frank Carollo in December 1989. The show was recorded by the keyboardist who worked with them that year, as a keepsake for himself. He recorded a few songs with a homemade cassette recorder and then, after more than 20 years, digitized the cassettes and uploaded the audio to TH-cam. Unfortunately, the audio quality is very low and there's a lot of background noise from the crowd. Still, you can hear Danny's incredible voice and all the noise makes it feel like we're right there listening to the live show, which is why I love these old recordings so much.

      Thanks for the clarification. Also thank you for capturing all of these recordings and videos of Dan Hamilton. These songs were popular during my high school years and I got interested recently because of Dan being from Washington State and I also have learned that several of his siblings live near where I live on the western side of Washington. Of course they are all older now just like Dan would have been now.

      @@mackmckay588 The gratitude is mine for contributing with your comments on the videos. I'm thrilled to know you live near Danny's family; I know his only daughter, Danielle, resides in Washington with her two grandchildren, Jared and Jacob. I'm also aware that Judd Hamilton, Danny's brother, who played with Danny in The T-Bones in the 60s and was his producer during those years, as well as an actor and musician, currently lives in Seattle with his family. I've also virtually befriended one of Danny's friends, who frequently visits Danny's resting place in Spokane - a beautiful park-like cemetery with deer, lush greenery, and stunning views. Danny truly deserved a long life filled with more music; his voice remained astonishing even months before his passing, when he recorded his final song "Santa Monica Nights" in just one take, despite his pain and immobility. He would have been a legend had he remained alive.

    They were on in 1988? The song came out in 1971.

      @HJFRD  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, the song was a hit in 1971 when the first album was released. Unfortunately, there are no live concert videos of the band during those years. In this case, it's the performance they did in 1988 for the TV show Solid Gold (Since "Don't Pull Your Love" went gold). By that time, the band had already disbanded since 1977. However, Danny and Joe Frank continued to play together as Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds throughout the 1980s in local shows in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and the surrounding areas. Danny and Joe Frank appeared on the TV show accompanied by some well-known Los Angeles session musicians, with Virgil replacing Tommy and playing the keyboard.

      @@MANEMANL I was surprised when I found out they used 'Don't Pull Your Love' for the movie. I've heard many covers, and honestly, it was good, considering it's a very challenging song to interpret. Danny recorded it in two versions; this one is a re-recording from the late 70s, whereas the original features Danny's lead vocals and harmony vocals by Tommy Reynolds, Joe Frank, and Virgil Weber. I think it'll be many years before someone matches the interpretation of this song, both vocally and instrumentally, as Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds did live in all their shows throughout their over 20-year career.
      If you enjoyed this song, I highly recommend checking out their hits 'Daisy Mae' and 'Annabella'. If you like energetic melodies, 'Going Down', 'Don't Refuse My Love', and 'Hallway Symphony' are excellent choices. And from their later album, 'Get on the Bus' is an upbeat and fun track. Later, the band achieved great success with their soft rock symphonic ballads, 'Fallin' in Love' being their number one hit, but my personal favorites are 'So Good at Lovin' You', 'Every Day Without You', 'Winners and Losers', 'Bar Room Blues', and 'Only Love'.
