Another great video, Sector 6. After all this time and with new ultimania stuff I’m starting to get this picture in my head: Post DOC Sephiroth and Aerith in the lifestream have created a replacing reality through memory with Cloud as their nexus. This has given us this world of rebirth. In otherwords it’s time travel but not time travel at all. The lore built out the series has allowed for a UNIQUE plot device in this story. One that has only been created by two decades of team writing and editing. A think tank idea pretty much. I get the feeling that post DOC Sephiroth within the life stream baited Aerith in the lifestream with her emotions on wanting to see Cloud again into making this happen. That leaves us with remake redoing the journey but with the whispers that seem to be negative lifestream incarnate. By the end of remake Sephiroth has broken free of the whispers, and has gained a great degree of his own control. What ever the edge of creation really is, it seems from this place and through Cloud he has know created a separate world. A world of ‘death.’ He has done this through manipulating Cloud’s memory and desires. This separate timeline will work to his advantage and possibly replace Aerith’s world of ‘rebirth’ if Sephiroth is able to get Cloud to choose his side. So I think Sephiroth will do everything he can to make Cloud want to change the past. Just another fun guess!!
Great video and love the new look! Very well said and explained; it shouldn't have to be so complicated as it clearly is too complicated for some folks as it is. In some respects we may not dig deep enough, but in many cases, all of the official works so far have shown us that much of the mysteries are already answered for us. The Devs couldn't spout this as a sequel. It wouldn't have done nearly as well, marketing-wise, so it had to be marketed as a 'Remake'. The very definition of 'memory' is a vision of an event that has already happened in the past. If Sephiroth is indeed seeing the future, he is either gaining that knowledge from the planet since it has memories (events that have already happened), or he is literally seeing events that haven't happened before, and is therefore already a god (which to be fair we don't know for sure how powerful he is). I don't see Cloud being a boss fight at the end of part 2, but I do see him being a boss fight towards the end at some point just before we defeat Sephiroth. Now what could happen is that we do fight Cloud in part 2, and it would be in such a way that it creates a lot of doubt in Cloud so that neither the party nor the player trusts Cloud anymore, which would make part 3 etc very dark going forward. Either way, I agree that if people could just see this as a sequel, then it would alleviate the pressure of it having to stick to the original. If Square wants to create a new term for this type of creation, we will have to hold off our decisions till the very end. But until then, it's a sequel.
Oooh I love this. What if Sephiroth didn't really die in the original but instead wound up in the Kingdom Hearts universe. Eventually finds a way back to this universe but earlier in the timeline. Also maybe the reason Zack comes back is the planet realizing it needs backup, and brings another piece into play to counter the extra Sephiroth in the world.
It’s like Split being a secret sequel to Unbreakable. “Remake” was intended to be a “secret sequel”, and naming it “remake” allowed it to be a secret until people played the game. This cash cow still has a little bit more milk in it xD
I think if it is true that it's multiverse/multiple timelines, then it's very likely that everything that happens in the OG is one of those universes, which would mean they probably already happened in that universe, making Remake a sequel. However, if, as some theorized, the Remake is just one universe/timeline that gets altered by the party's defeat of the Whisper Harbinger, then it's possible that all the visions that Cloud has, and the knowledge that Aerith and Sephiroth have, are just visions of one possible future that happens to be based on the OG continuity. In that sense, it could be simpler to describe Remake as a "reboot." It's not beholden to all of the events of the OG timeline and could potentially make changes here and there while incorporating more elements of the compilation.
I agree it being one timeline definitely muddies the waters as far as the question "Is it a sequel?" goes. And i am very much in the camp that expects there to a degree of multiple timelines/realities involved in this narrative so that definitely matches up! lol
"The unknown journey will continue" I hated Sephiroth and the Whispers till I heard the concept of this being a sequel. Now I'm excited for an expanded and more complete journey to be woven from the compilation. All the other little changes were nice on their own but the only way for me to stomach early Sephiroth and the Whispers is the promise of more change in the future. I want a new story told within the scope of nostalgia. One that is both familiar and new. I don't need the same familiar story told again with better graphics. I need a new bigger better story that builds on what I know and loved. That defines a sequel. I'm one of the weirdos who liked FFX-2 because it showed how hard it was for the whole world to grow past the trauma of FFX. I want something similar for the compilation of FFVII. Connecting this story to AC, BC, CC, and DC is what makes it the fifth installment. Can't wait for EC so I can play the timeline from start to finish. Hopefully that puts more fans on equal footing for wherever this story is headed next.
When cloud in an earlier scene with the flames when he sees sephiroth says didn’t I kill you. I knew then and there it was going to be something different.
My problem with the idea of it being a sequel is that it basically requires the entire timeline to be reset to just before the original game happened so things can play out a little different in order for it to be a sequel, and that is a hard pill to swallow. Wrapping my head around how that makes any sense at all is difficult. It is easier to believe that it is some sort of reimagining kind of remake
See this is why i feel there's gonna be at least a moderate degree of alternate realities/timelines woven into the narrative. I think the end goal for Seph is to change the original timeline, but i don't know if we're at that point yet.
@@Sector6UK It's going to take a lot of explaining to make it all make sense. I am glad that Nomura is not involved in pt 2 because he can't explain his way out of a paper bag. He would just make it more confusing. The guy that directed FFXIII is still involved, though, I think. Unfortunately.
While it's possible that cloud will be a boss at some point due to jenovaroth influence, what I'm thinking I want to see at some point is Minerva from CC. Sleepezi theory from over a year ago is stuck in my head. While genesis is sealed in the cave under midgar there's no way Minerva will sit back and let cloud and the others change the planets fate this easily. She who is the personification of the planet will consider aeriths actions a grave sin and desire to destroy them instead of use them like the OG. She imo should be a final boss at some point but if they plan on this, they need to build her up next game or game 3. Make the benora underground an important location like in CC etc. It's definitely a sequel tho. No doubt. It's the 5th installment.
There are a lot of varying possibilities for bosses at the end of PArt 2, it just can't be Sephiroth again imo, they should leave him alone til the very end now!
Square Enix known for being very cryptic in their storytelling & lore especially FF7, never lied about FF7Remake. In the FF7Remake Ultimania book Kitase stated THE STORY of FF7 will (key word) "CONTINUE" as it always has. Every installment after the Original FF7 has been a CONTINUANCE of the story of FF7 as a whole (aka the Compilation of FF7). Tetsuya Nomura confirmed FF7Remake is the 5th installment of the FF7 Compilation. The purpose of the Compilation: AC, BC, CC, DC is to help better expand & explain the overarching story of the Original FF7. The Original 1997 game FF7 is not a part of the Compilation, it stands on its own. The Compilation was created to help better give context to & continue off of the original game, & FF7Remake is a part of that continuation. FF7Remake does not & cannot stand on its own, it needs the Original & the Compilation to support it.
@@OldManSakaki But they didn't say that. Kitase said "the story of FF7 will continue as ff7 always has" meaning after the OG the story has continued being told through the compilation, & Remake is confirmed by Nomura to be the 5th & final part of the Compilation. If they ever do admit it's a sequel it'll probably be after the Remake Project is fully completed & released to keep the mystery & speculative debating among fans alive, which honestly is part of the fun trying to figure everything out, it keeps people talking.
Great video, I enjoyed the remake however I do agree it is a sequel and I believe Square know the full outcome of the story but they don’t want to tell us much about it I believe the second part will definitely let us know the true direction the game is going to go I believe the ff7 that will come to mobile will be exactly like the original with better graphics only time will tell
I've never ever played the original, but I know Aerith dies in it. I knew this game was a sequel the absolute moment Aerith said something like, "maybe things could be different this time" and I don't know why, but I had already suspected it might be a sequel even earlier before that. Other than the fact I'd occasionally put on FF7 videos for background noise, I have no idea how the hell I knew this so early
I think this could all just be explained by the lifestream giving Sephiroth visions of the future rather than him time traveling. I don't see this as a sequel but just a remake where they remake the game into what they originally wanted to. They have stated several times that OG FF7 had a lot of content that was cut do to development constraints and various other limitations of the technology at the time.
It is a sequel. I’ve said this as the game released and people thought I was crazy. I will disagree with you on thing:Aerith. That is future Aerith who went from the lifestream back to the past.
It's obviously a sequel. "Remake" isn't what the game is, it's what is going on within the game. Sephiroth is trying to remake the events of the original game.
I feel like the timeline of Remake will look something like this: -------===__----__ ------====-----0.0 XD -------- ---------- ---===-------______ ---------- ------------------------- ------- --------- Basically what I meant to say was that the timeline will go haywire but Aerith will try her best to revert things cuz I have this sense of dread that this change* the party made has made this substantially worse for them. And terrible things will happen, prompting maybe Zack and Aerith to change things back to what they were like.
the moment i saw the "flashforwards" appearing i thought of it as a sequel, it took me a while after completing the game to realise that it's sephiroth remaking the past, considering the director was tetsuya nomura it was a facepalm moment where you realise that the actual name of the game is: FF7 RE:make
So the English translation of the ultimania says that Seph bares the Burden of the universe of Death and Cloud bares the burden of the universe of Rebirth…so a sequel, two universes! Seph must have a new master plan and somehow needs cloud more than ever
I think that “remakes” world may be the same as OG, but with added depth and different perspectives from other characters. I think the “zack world” is what will be drastically different. I’m not sure we will ever get to play as zack and that may remain as cutscenes. But it could be that cloud dies due to the Mako poisoning, no avalanche, Jesse at gold saucer etc. Seph will at some point make cloud choose…OG ending with all his loss, or Zach world where all live (however, maybe that is the world where seph wins)…idk , but it will be good any which way!
It's a little bit messed up this was marketed as a remake. I mean, to be fair thw devs said they'd only remake it of they had new ideas, but they still advertised it as a remake. It should have been called "Redo" cause the team gets a 2nd chance at their story
I feel like we are well past the point of debate over whether or not this game is a sequel. But I am not entirely sure if that perspective would change the minds of its detractors. It is not to say that this game has valid criticisms. It certainly does. But there seems to be a group of people who never wanted to give this game a chance in the first place. And they will criticize on so many frivolous things to the point where I'm pretty sure the only thing that would make these people happy is FFVII OG. And that is fine. We don't have to like everything. The problem with that is I don't feel like this game would have been nearly as successful if it had stuck to OG in terms of the story line. The reason being is because we, as fans, already know what is going to happen. So the OG story won't carry as much weight with us. This is even true to newcomers as this is an iconic game. Everybody knows who Sephiroth and the main characters from pop culture. Hence, it makes more sense to do something different. Remake would have flopped if the devs would have stuck to the main story. The reviews would call this an old game with a new coat of paint and call it a day. The haters would still be hating because that is what they do. Meanwhile, those of us who appreciate remake would be left with nothing. And I am glad I don't live in that timeline.
Dude I kinda a disagree most people bought this on the assumption it was a remake of FF7 with some extended stuff for Midgar. The vast majority of people think like this until you get to the ending and then you finally see its a bait and switch. The game was gonna sell well, at least for the first installment just because of nostalgia and name recognition. Just look how many times they've release Zelda, Mario, Metroid, God of War, or any of the other remasters. The games sell just fine. Now the second installment has to deal with that divisive ending and a lot of baggage from the game itself, the padding, Nomura's horrible overindulgent story telling, which is getting worse with each game he makes...look at kingdom hearts, The lack of actual fighting through large chucks of the game, Iffy pacing. I actually liked the game but this left a sour taste in my mouth and makes me hesitant to say I want more. Especially because having the game split up was already not what I wanted and having it split up and turned into a sequel just kinda feels silly to me. I think if they said it was a sequel from the get go it might not have sold as well which is why they pulled the bait and switch tactic. I think they hoped they'd tell an epic enough story to justify it. Unfortunately the ending makes the game a mess for a lot of fans, who felt either betrayed or annoyed (which they kinda of have every right to feel when they've been lied to for years about what this was gonna be). I can't say I feel like shelling out more money for the next iteration because although I did like Remake it felt tedious and bloated in way too many spots and the new direction of the story just looks really annoying especially the Whispers. I wanted FF7 Remade with some revisions for the modern times NOT Nomura's Fanfiction to change history. So if people opt out blame Nomura and the marketing team for lying for the like 8 years it took to release this...or the haters I guess...
Great video! However, I pose this theory. The director stated previously that remake would for the most part follow the same story. Now, with that in mind. The story is STILL the same, even after the defeat of the whisperers. Nothing within the story has changed. I believe we will get a deeper story within our original story. As das as Zack, I am certain he is dead. That we will receive a DLC/episode in regards to him, prior to FFR2 release. I believe we will see things from his realm, which ultimately end with him uniting with Aerith in death.
My Opinion Final Fantasy VII Remake 1/2/3 (maybe 4?) is sequel from : 1. Before Crisis 2. Crisis Core 3. Final Fantasy VII (Original) 4. Advent Children 5. Dirge Of Cerberus Reason? My Theory: 1. Sephiroth back to the past and want to change the rest of history with corrupting the fate (or second theory: he won the fight in the origin timeline AFTER "Dirge of Cerberus" event. Because he won the battle and defeat Cloud&party in origin timeline , he have the access to control or corrupting the fate although still many whisper not corrupted by him) 2. Aerith know everything what happen from the beginning in FF7R, at chapter 17 in game , Aerith want to tell the truth to the band but the Whisper appear and surrounding preventing her to change history/destiny 3. How did Aerith know? My theory is Minerva (Goddess in FF7) telling what happen in original time and warn Aerith in The beginning of game FF7R through The Lifestream.. (or maybe Original Aerith in Lifestream (with help from Minerva) warn herself /Aerith in the past) 4. Cause Cloud and the party defeat coruppted Deities of The Fate : - Sephiroth Purpose to change History / Destiny will Begin - Zack survive and make a new timeline where Zack is alive( Avalanche dog Graffiti is changing, the prove this is a other Timeline) - Bigs , Wedge and Jessie (probably) survive and alive in FF7Remake 5. Final Fantasy VII Remake is the past from origin Timeline, cause Sephiroth interfered , this past become the new time line of the origin ( explained before the Final Battle, Aerith dont know what happen after defeating the fate) 6 . The developer said ( i forgot who said this, maybe Hideo Kojima) " FF7 Remake 1/2/3 is the "REMAKE' from the original so maybe forward we see unexpected event in this game" So basicly FF7 Remake plot is multiverse like marvel doing in their MCU.. External Links and Influences of FF7 Remake 1/2/3 about Time Travel /Paralel World or Dimension: 1. Final Fantasy 1 2. Final Fantasy VIII 3. Final Fantasy X , X-2 4. Final Fantasy XIII Saga 5. Final Fantasy Dissidia /012/ NT ( all the game i am mention, i already beat it) sorry if my english is bad...
I still don't think it is a direct sequel, but more so a ''spiritual successor'' to the original and it's compilation. I believe that events and themes from Advent Children and DoC will be revealed and acknowledged through futuresight, but not because it is the same continuity (as in Remake chronologically taking place after DoC) I don't think there is any literal time travel involved but rather a more vague explanation of memories and the ability to see the future through the power of the lifestream/Jenova (sort of how Lucrecia started seeing visions of the future after being injected with Jenova's cells according to DoC lore). They did say in an interview (or Ultimania I can't remember which) that when part 2 comes out we will get the answers for the questions we have now, and in another interview Nomura said "I think we can clearly convey the direction when we officially announce the next installment." I just hope we get an announcement soon instead of having to wait for years :/
im sorry let me just say this why are we talking about something that has not been talked about for 2 yrs since console integrade or are you still talking about part 1
For me, it being a sequel annoys me big time, because I wanted REMAKE to be my FF7 experience, since I didn't play the original, now I have to play all those old ass games to understand what the hell is going on.
No. No it isn't. It's a fucking REMAKE. The multiverse theory works because IT'S A RE-MAKE of the original. When you MAKE something, you CREATE it. To re-MAKE something, you are CREATING AGAIN. That means there TWO things made. That's TWO UNIVERSES. That's your 'multiverse'. All rules apply. The fact the second MAKE is self-aware of the first, doesn't make it a sequel.
I very much appreciate that great content creators like yourself are willing to go back and review previous thoughts and ideas. I feel constantly exploring and evolving is the best way to enjoy a game, let alone life. Great vid, you rock

At this point im just numb and impressed.
Love this, and yes 😂😂
the trailer for part 2 really validates this video. "REMAKE" really means to remake their past or future, since they or someone saw their future.
It being a sequel is the only way it makes sense.
Is it a remake or a sequel?
Answer: Yes.
Rebootquelmake.

No idea why, just popped in there
@@Sector6UK I'll be back here to give you my condolences if you end up being correct on that.
@@Sector6UKNero from DoC: "Let tonight be the final chapter"
Oooooh boy.....
Devs need to straight out say it is a sequel... And stop saying the remake will continue as the story we all know.
@@OldManSakaki
But they didn't say that.
Love your content, hope you get to 1k soon :D
Aw thank you and same!!!
Either way though i'll still be doing my thing, if it happens it happens. Just gotta nudge people into clicking 😂
@@Sector6UK Remake going through a dry spell, I bet you'll blow up when the next exciting thing drops, keep moseying on :)
Thats the plan!!! Just keep swimming 😂
I feel like the timeline of Remake will look something like this:
-------===__----__
------====-----0.0 XD --------
---------- ---===-------______ ---------- -------------------------
------- ---------
Basically what I meant to say was that the timeline will go haywire but Aerith will try her best to revert things cuz I have this sense of dread that this change* the party made has made this substantially worse for them.
I mean just that alone, Sephiroths world is dead, he messed it up, he lost. But there's a chance for rebirth in "remakes" world.
I'm curious - do you still feel this way after Rebirth? My take on Remake was also that it was a sequel, but have yet to play Rebirth.
First of all sir!
Great video man as always 👊🏼
Thanks mate, appreciate it!
I think the word REMAKE is a play on the characters remaking their fates.
From what I understand, Zack is Cloud's father. Your thoughts?
Babyseal sent you didn't he!? 😂
My Opinion Final Fantasy VII Remake 1/2/3 (maybe 4?) is sequel from :
1. Before Crisis
2. Crisis Core
3. Final Fantasy VII (Original)
4. Advent Children
5. Dirge Of Cerberus
Reason? My Theory:
1. Sephiroth back to the past and want to change the rest of history with corrupting the fate (or second theory: he won the fight in the origin timeline AFTER "Dirge of Cerberus" event. Because he won the battle and defeat Cloud&party in origin timeline , he have the access to control or corrupting the fate although still many whisper not corrupted by him)
2. Aerith know everything what happen from the beginning in FF7R, at chapter 17 in game , Aerith want to tell the truth to the band but the Whisper appear and surrounding preventing her to change history/destiny
3. How did Aerith know? My theory is Minerva (Goddess in FF7) telling what happen in original time and warn Aerith in The beginning of game FF7R through The Lifestream.. (or maybe Original Aerith in Lifestream (with help from Minerva) warn herself /Aerith in the past)
4. Cause Cloud and the party defeat coruppted Deities of The Fate :
- Sephiroth Purpose to change History / Destiny will Begin
- Zack survive and make a new timeline where Zack is alive( Avalanche dog Graffiti is changing, the prove this is a other Timeline)
- Bigs , Wedge and Jessie (probably) survive and alive in FF7Remake
5. Final Fantasy VII Remake is the past from origin Timeline, cause Sephiroth interfered , this past become the new time line of the origin ( explained before the Final Battle, Aerith dont know what happen after defeating the fate)
6 . The developer said ( i forgot who said this, maybe Hideo Kojima) " FF7 Remake 1/2/3 is the "REMAKE' from the original so maybe forward we see unexpected event in this game"
So basicly FF7 Remake plot is multiverse like marvel doing in their MCU..
External Links and Influences of FF7 Remake 1/2/3 about Time Travel /Paralel World or Dimension:
1. Final Fantasy 1
2. Final Fantasy VIII
3. Final Fantasy X , X-2
4. Final Fantasy XIII Saga
5. Final Fantasy Dissidia /012/ NT ( all the game i am mention, i already beat it)
sorry if my english is bad...
They did say in an interview (or Ultimania I can't remember which) that when part 2 comes out we will get the answers for the questions we have now, and in another interview Nomura said "I think we can clearly convey the direction when we officially announce the next installment." I just hope we get an announcement soon instead of having to wait for years :/
I agree, the remake is a sequel.
im sorry let me just say this why are we talking about something that has not been talked about for 2 yrs since console integrade or are you still talking about part 1
U sound like cid from ffxvi
Requel 😂
For me, it being a sequel annoys me big time, because I wanted REMAKE to be my FF7 experience, since I didn't play the original, now I have to play all those old ass games to understand what the hell is going on.
Requel
Disagree, sequel for me.
