    Cute story - my 4 year old was rambling on in his bedroom and I hear him say "Hi, everyone! *blah blah blah* Tossy tossy!" I didn't realize he was paying attention to your videos when I watch them.

    Oh such a lovely change. Practical:D I vote for a small bin in the bedroom too. If you tend to pile up trash there otherwise. It is like bathroom bin. It would just take a minute to walk it over to the kitchen one right next to it but nope. Plus if I have guests over with That time of the month they can dispose of such products privately.

    Looks great!
    The trash can by the bed question: Pick a direction and try it for a little while to see how it goes! If it isn't working, try the other way! I definitely wouldn't buy a trash can right now, though, I would use something you have, a little bin, even a cereal box, to see if you like the function of it first before buying something

      Yup, I use 2 cut-off bottoms of cereal boxes in my drawer for little trash/recycling. Sure, it fills up fairly quickly, but it is a defined destination for these things + then I can empty them into the bigger trash.

  • @pattyjames4956

    Get a trashcan for right beside your bed. It will keep that spot neater. And with my ADHD, it's quicker to throw it away there, than getting up to go to the other trashcan. Love the transformation of your nightstand.

  • @psymompa

    Love that you shopped your supply for your organizers. Great way to save money. I personally liked the pop of blue color. Kind of made it look boho chic.
    Maybe look to your stash and see if you have something that would work as a temporary trashcan. This way, you can try to use the bathroom trash can, but if you don't use it, you have something nearby and didn't spend any money.
    Came out great! 🌈💜

    I was getting congested in our bedroom too, so hubby and I tackled a huge deep clean last weekend. We pulled dressers out, the bed out, vacuumed under everything, wiped down furntiure, dusted, wiped baseboards - it took forever, but MAN! The air immediately felt cleaner and easier to breathe in! I was amazed bc I keep a clean house - we have carpet though, and it just attracts everything - YUCK!

  • @ChanekaSary

    Don't buy a trashcan! re-use whatever bin you have somewhere and use it as trash can. I have re-used some disenfecting wipes containers removed the lid and used that as a mini trash can then once it's full empty it in the bathroom one, then if you decide it's helping then buy the trash can. Great Job in this organization Ms Heart! you always leave me with my jaw dropped

    • @beccismith4454
      @beccismith4454 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a great idea! I’ve done something similar. I took a paper bag that I got shopping that can stand by itself, I guess like a gift bag but it was more like a brown paper bag with handles and I folded it over so that it stayed open square, turned down the top so it stays open square and then I can put a plastic bag like you get from the grocery store as a liner and I have that for example in my bedroom as a trashcan and then I just empty it out and if the plastic bag gets gross or whatever I can just change it out and recycle that or throw it away. And something like that would fit really well in that little space between bed and nightstand. Costs nothing and is very practical! I would do it.

  • @sonyachavez8032

    In my recovery (i was not only a hoarder, i had a huge problem with putting away trash) i had a trashcan everywhere i maybe had trash. So i had in a 1 bedroom apartment more than 10 Trashcans. And it worked! it started my whole recovery Journey. So i would recomment to put a little trashcan besides the Nightstand, especially if you clean out your purse there.
    I myself have a little purse station in my hallway. Its a bin and in there is everything i might need, headphones, tissues, desinfect, mask, sunglasses and so on.

    This was so satisfying! I actually have 2 trash cans in my bedroom, only a few feet apart! For me it is worth it; putting things in the trash has to be as easy as possible for me to actually do it. Another great thing I have discovered is using wall mounted trash cans to save floor space and so I don't have to move them each time I vacuum.

  • @zambranaml
    @zambranaml ปีที่แล้ว +52

    The fact that you're this aware--that you have a choice now, that you can walk the trash five steps into the bathroom or get another bin--is refreshing and incredible progress! If you're prepared to make it a habit, I say go for it and keep the trash in the bathroom; that habit will reprogram your brain on the "don't put it down, put it away" life-path, coupled with physical reinforcement ("muscle memory"). If you are still not sure or that's not working for you? Well, a bin is a bin is a bin!

    • @ahoardersheart
      @ahoardersheart  ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Yesssss!!! You are so right my friend!! I also noticed that my “don’t put it down, put it away” works better in the room the object belongs in. It works like a charm for the kitchen as I put away all the items I used to cook. I didn’t have to switch rooms to put it away. If an item has to be returned in another room, the success rate drops. So I might do a little test…I noticed the bathroom trash, ONLY has bathroom trash. I wonder if the reason I wasn’t successful was because the bedroom trash wasn’t bathroom trash? Just a little hypothesis 😉 I LOVE this convo with you!!!

    I love seeing all of the suggestions people have. Your new nightstand drawer setup is beautiful and really clever.
    I agree with a suggestion that some other people had to shop your stash for some thing that you can use as a little trashcan next to your bed. Baby steps. I know when my bedroom is concerned, I have to be extra nice to myself because that’s where I go when I’m feeling tired if you’re training yourself to put trash in the trashcan, why not make it really easy on yourself and have one right there. You can always train your brain to go to the further trashcan down the line. Right now
    , It’s a great step to just get it into a trashcan in the first place. That’s just my opinion, you know yourself best. 💖

  • @Objet_Dart
    @Objet_Dart ปีที่แล้ว +21

    Nice job. Do you write in your journals while sitting in bed? You might want to scoot the pen and earbud organizers to the side of the drawer closest to the bed to make the little things easier to reach. Also- do you dump out loose change more often than you use the aromatherapy oils? If so, set the Hello Kitty can at the front space of the lower drawer and put the oils caddy behind it.

    You should put a small skinny trash can by the night stand. You can use it for cleaning out your purse, random tissues when sick, those cough drop wrappers, etc. If you have to walk those 5 steps you'll be tempted to pile trash "for later". Also then your bathroom trash can be purely for trash from the bathroom.

  • @Andonapansonkey
    @Andonapansonkey ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Hii 😊 i was the one suggesting a little trash can next to your bed. But now it looks so clean and everything has a home. I don’t think that trash would accumulate as it did before. Give yourself 21 days. They say that it takes 21 days to really get use to a new habit. If you think that you still need a little bin, then you can put the blue container that you did not like as a trash bin 😊 (ps: try to move the little buckets from the first drawer to the second one and put the white container from the second one to the first one. That way you wouldn’t need to buy a forth white one and all three white we’ll be together in the first drawer while the odd ones are in the second drawer. I don’t know what kind of disorder i have, but i like that things that are similar stay together 😂)

    For trash it really depends, if you're already in bed when you notice the trash beside you, those 6 steps are 6 steps too many. Just use a spare, labelled, organiser for trash and empty it every week into the larger trash can. If you find it;s a dumping zone, use a spare organiser for what you're dumping and when it's full that's the trigger to do something about it.

    I love this transformation! You are making so much progress and I'm so proud of you! 💖💖
    Having said that, I would most definitely get the new trashcan and have it by the bed. You don't have to change every single one of your habits in order to make improvements. My mantra has always been "Work with your brain, not against it." Even though my kitchen is small, I keep two trashcans in it, one next to the fridge and the other near my stove. When I'm preparing food, if I don't have the trashcan right next to me, I'll leave the mess on the counter. Still do sometimes, but I'm getting better about cleaning up while or after I cook. The point is, do what works best for you now, and if it continues to work for you in the future, great! Only change it if you really need to.
    Congrats on having a bedroom space you can be proud of! 😊💖

    Yes, Ms Heart, your dresser looks so good. I love your jewellery organiser stand. It is great you are adjusting your habits, especially using your gift cards for something useful and banking the money. I think your nighttime nasal congestion could be because of your use of essential oils as many can be toxic if used too much also peppers cat hairs on your bed could be triggering an allergic response too, but I understand why you let her rest on your bed, when I had my little doggie she used to do the same. Don’t buy another bin, just move the bathroom bin a little closer to the door.

We like to empty out out bins every morning but to be honest my bedroom trash gets overlooked so I empty it into the bathroom trash when it gets full.😊

  • @BrandiLaShay
    @BrandiLaShay ปีที่แล้ว

    Definitely add the trash can there! Cas from Clutterbug recommends adjusting things like that if you are finding clutter hotspots. My son was leaving his shoes on the floor daily, even though he had a basket for them to go in.. so I moved his shoe container from the end of his bed (probably less than 4 feet away!) to directly next to his bed and haven't had a problem since! She says it's about creating homes where you use things, so if you need to change something then do it.. it has helped me make a lot of adjustments that have made it easier to stay clean!

    I would still put a little trash can right beside the bed. You can even start with a box/ basket/ bin that you already have before buying a trash can to see if it works for you!
    Making the small habit of throwing away and emptying the trash would be easier to implement then trying to make the bigger habit of walking into another room for trash.
    Thank you so much for sharing your videos, they've been encouraging for me. I can see how much I have healed over the years as I see how much you have healed.

    In regards to the trash can. Since you are still in a no spend, try adjusting the habit first by moving the one in the bathroom closer to the door, and then if by March it still isn't working then you can get a little one to put in the gap.
    Or another idea, if you have a small container that is similar in shape, you can try putting it there just to try it out. That way, you don't have to spend anything if it ends up not working.

    For me and my ADHD mind, I like to call it “soothe” cleaning and organizing. I’m not great at it, but I do enjoy it when I do it.
    Tip: I like to keep journals on my nightstand in a nice napkin holder. I have also used it for my kindle.
    TRASH CAN: I vote yes. Then once in the habit you can switch to the other one and relocate the bedside one. 🤷‍♀️

    I think since you’re trying to implement the ”don’t put it down, put it away”-rule You should throw your juni in the bathroom wastebasket right away instead of getting a second one for your bedroom. You can do it 💪💫

    Get a flat trash can for by bed. Tissues. Wrappers. Misc. Must be where your natural activities are. Not 6 feet away.
    So good to see your progress over the years. Well done

    I see uve decided to put a trashcan there, I agree. But don't buy one, shop ur basement. A deep organiser, a large formula tin, a sturdy bin sized box. Maybe sized so u can use bread or cereal bags as liners.

    The space looks great. I need to get rid of my old phones also. I don't know why I kept all of them, especially the non working ones. I say get the trash can. You don't want to get out of bed to throw a Kleenex away. I spend a lot of time reading on my sofa and I have a trash can (plus a box of tissues) next to it.

    You did such a fantastic job! I hope you do a follow up video later and tell us if it is working for you or if you needed to tweek it. I am one of those ADHD super organized people you mentioned and I LOVE doing this kind of stuff. I have no doubt you will be able to better keep up on that area. Looks beautiful. As for the trash can that is super smart of you to see if you will take the time to walk the extra steps first, you can always buy the can later if you find you need it.

    To me, it depends on the amount of trash generated in the space. If the bathroom trash fills up fairly easily then I would go ahead and put a trash can in the bedroom. Then you don't have to stress as much to take many trips to the trash bin outside. Looks great! Woo hoo! Progress is definitely a feel good thing! I struggle with my nervous energy too. I had to have a talk with myself to remember why I don't need to go spend.

    I would recommend just using the bin (trash can) in your bathroom it would help with the no spend challenge and helps with walking space rather than having it clutter on your bed side xx

    hey you read my comments. omg! haha :) thank you! the curls really looked good on you. it looks really good. as for your questions, put a bin next to your bed. if you are in bed and have tossy tossy then you probably wont go up and as we learned: clutter leed to more clutter like a magnetic feld. so just put one there. the next one is litereally in another room.

    Great job, once again!
    Question... if you put the bathroom trashcan by your bed, would that work better? When you're in the bathroom, you're already on your feet and walking over is much easier. When you're in/on your bed, maybe there is more friction to get up and put it in the trash? Just a thought!

    I too am guilty of keeping cards of birthdays etc. and having a hard time tossing them out. So I went ahead and filled a photo album (similar to the one you used for your nail art supplies) with the ones I really hold dear. I can still take them out and read them from time to time, but they are organized and not taking up space somewhere they can get bent or torn. Not all sizes will fit if there are bigger cards, but most of the time the backside of cards is empty or only has the production company logo on it, so in theory there is no harm glueing them down with double sided sticky tape, you can still open them up and read the inside message.

    Definitely put a small trash can by the bed. Sometimes even 5 steps is further than you will want to go and you will end up with trash on or in the nightstand. Great job with the reorganization!

    As always amazing job it look much better, I don’t have OCD I haven’t got tested for OCD but you’d think I have OCD I like everything to be cleaned I still live at home with mum and stepdad but I vacuum the house every Monday, Wednesday and Friday but if I could I’d vacuum every day but i have other things I need to do. After 3 months have passed I pull everything away from my walls and I do a deep clean of my bedroom helps keep the bugs out of my bedroom, I keep my bedroom clean I see if there is something I can de clutter every month I like my bedroom cleaned vacuumed and organised and that the way I want it to stay. If I see mess I absolutely try so hard not to clean it up. Keep up the amazing work ❤😊

    I know this sounds weird, but you could use a large plastic cereal container (ones that are the size of a big cardboard box of cereal) & slip that between your bed & night stand.
    If you don’t want Pepper to get in it, then keep the lid on, & just flip up the little flip top when you throw something out. 😊❤❤❤ 🐈

    Since you have ADHD I'd say if the bathroom door is closed, you might "forget" the trash can is there in the moment and put it on the nightstand or floor instead, so one by the bed would be good. I have one in the bedroom mainly for tissues in case of colds or coffee spills.
