This channel will get popular and I will be able to say that Im one of the OG viewers. We will say stuff like ''Remember the Colin and Christine episodes or Dani's eps, good times!"😂🤣
I feel like Colin with be a great dad. He’s so steady. And he’s a mountain so that’ll make playtime fun. Future mama, you are glowing. 💖 I hope we get to see the baby and I have to say that this couple rivals Dani in decluttering muscle. Can we declutter Mary’s next? By we I mean you, April!🎉
I am really enjoying this, I've enjoyed all the others, but with Christine being pregnant, I'm so happy for her, she can enjoy her baby without any stress, knowing her house is organised.
I think the fridge and freezer should be moved against the blue wall; the shelves unit behind the door, and the coat and shoes rack near the window ... the window is big, so it represents a good source of light and it can also be opened for air circulation ...
This is my favorite series so far! My husband and I got married in our late 30s, and we both brought a lot of items into the home. Even 8 years later, we're still decluttering!. It's so nice to see a lovely couple and mother working so well together and being guided with the kindness of April as you figure out what you need and what you can get rid of. Thank you so much for sharing your journey!
It's not a criticism of Christine and Colin, but how the basement is at the start of the video is how I feel hoarding starts - there is too much stuff, you don't have what you need to organize things properly, you can't get to the areas that you need to get to so you just put the items in boxes and pile everything up in whatever space is clear and even if you want to get around to sorting it and cleaning it up, you feel too over-whelmed to do it. I have my own mini areas in my home like this and it takes a while to get through it and it can grow over time. You're helping people before it gets to a bad state.
Yes! Love seeing the decision making, and really appreciate April’s nonjudgmental questions to explain how they got to where they are. We all have areas we’ve slowly accumulated way too many over the years!
April the help you give to these families is so amazing. I love the way you show real families in real life and you help them to decide how to get things out of the house without shaming them to go minimalist. Too many organizers think you only need one item of a category.
Love this channel and this couple, thanks April, Collin, and Christine! Suggestions to improve flow: 1. Move the coat and shoe racks to the opposite wall, so you face it as soon as you come in the door. That way someone sitting on the bench pulling their boots on doesn't get bumped when someone else going out opens the door. And, the outside shoes track mud in over that much less of the floor. Bonus benefit: you get more light coming in the window, and can even look out the window while you're putting on shoes and coats, etc. Also nice having that bench right inside the door for putting down bags and packages so it's easier to shed outer layers. Might need to make the bench/shoe shelves L shaped if the space is not quite long enough, which would impact accessibility on the portion of the shoe rack shelves in the corner. 2. Move the shelves with the food storage and the medical/smalls to the wall that backs up on the stairwell, so it's *super easy* to retrieve and replace frequently used smalls, and so the food is away from the light coming in through the window (which would prolong shelf life.) Move the most frequently used smalls (e.g., tape) to those shelves to *make it as easy-peasy as possible to put away small things used frequently*. 3. Move the garbage and recycling to the wall "behind" the door, where the coat/shoe rack currently is. They're leaving the house anyway, this makes them easy to grab when you go. Seems like that black stacking tub system that we saw early in the process could work well for holding recycling and other things that are leaving the house (donations, returns, things to take to friends, etc.) 4. If the fridge stays in the same spot, switch the handles and hinges so the door opens towards the stairwell. Keep up the good work! You're going to love having a serene home that makes your daily life so much easier, especially when you're new parents.
Love the room you finished. It will function so much better. One suggestion, I would consider painting the floor with garage/basement paint. It will make the room look cleaner. Right now, it looks dirty even when freshly swept. I did this to my basement floor, and it makes it so much calmer. Do it even if you don't move the furniture. I know Christine is pregnant, so you might want to wait, but keep it in mind for the future. I used a light grey color, so it doesn't look fancy. Just looks clean and calm.❤
You can move fridge in that blue wall, and this whole shelf inside against the wall with other shelf. The whole room will get more space. You doing great ❤️
Absolutely 👍 The large appliances won’t loom as much if they are tucked into a deep corner. ( this is why a counter top microwave ALWAYS functions best under a corner cabinet)🙌🏻
Thank you! Enjoy the episode today! From now on I'll stick to posting 1 series at a time with a new episode each Sunday. So next week and the week after we'll continue following their progress until we are finished!
Finally somebody who declutters by expiration date. Every time on this channel when somebody wants to keep stuff past the date I yell: “let the expiration date help you! You are not good at throwing away stuff. let the rules help you.” These people even take in regard that by the time they would use it, it will be expired. I love these folks.
I mean depends though. Expiration dates dont actually mean too much. Most of the time it still works perfectly fine unless its like extremely expired. Gotta play these things by ear esp if u are tight on money
@@catrice1296 I agree. I hate seeing perfectly good things just thrown in the trash, adding to our already overflowing landfills. Even the things like extra bandaids could be donated. Shelters are a great place to donate things like that.
Because of this series i've been really decluttering my home and use your videos to body double as i do it. My husband and i want children in next two years and specifically watching this series has made me realise it will be easier if i get my house in order now vs being also pregnant.
I think the organized shelf should go where the trash is and the bench.coat rack where the shelf/fridge is. so when you walk in your seeing nicer stuff
Oh my gosh! Love this couple so much! They are funny and loving. Gonna be terrific parents. So happy they are getting things done before the baby comes! I’m so ready for April to come to my house now! ❤❤❤❤❤
A year ago my family of four moved into a two-story home where my children's bedroom and playroom are upstairs I had to suddenly solve the problem of getting toys that have traveled downstairs back upstairs without having to make multiple trips. Let me clarify that this is the job of my 7 and 10 year old sons, not mine. Since the stairs are right next to our garage entry as well as the laundry room, I chose a 12 by 12 bin which is the same color as my stairs and placed it just on the fourth step up where it's out of eyesight and blends in with the carpeting on the stairs. It's in the perfect position to toss small items into it, and once it's full the boys have to take it upstairs and put everything in its place. Make a do something similar with their stairs and place a box towards the top of the steps, to place items that need to go downstairs but not at that moment. It's important to make the box small enough so that it can't be too heavy to carry downstairs safely, or feel overwhelming to put away.
Of all your decluttering stories , this couple are my very favourite. Both are very down to earth and acknowledge that they really do have two households and need to REDUCE not only for themselves but the baby on the way. Neither one is digging their feet in and have been very reasonable about what they want to keep.
I love the two of them ♡ i can only imagine how overwhelming this space was, and then with a baby coming! Im so glad April was able to help them get set up ❤❤
Wow! Great work you guys!!! This place will look so nice when it's all done! My only recommendation is to switch the coat/shoe rack to the other side where the window is since the door opens that way so when you come in, you can immediately take off your coats/shoes, or vice/versa when leaving. plus it's a nice place by the window. And I would relocate those fridges and shelf somewhere else so it is not the first thing you see.
Near Chicago. 3 of us live in a 2BR apartment. I get rid of a bag or box full of clothes, china, or tchotchkes each week. My craft supplies fit under my bed or in a small bookcase. I taught a craft class last week. Tina, Al's wife
I can’t imagine having that much space, or having to deal with that much inventory. 😮 very wise to bring unprofessional help for such a project before baby stuff explodes onto the scene. ❤
I was going to save starting my basement for winter (procrastinating), but was so inspired by watching the video yesterday that I went down and got started! I managed to clear two doom piles, put up a shelving unit and organize those items (plus sort trash & recycling from the piles). There is still more to do, but thank you for the inspiration to get going on it and not wait ❤️
Loving this series! Such a gift for them once baby comes to have an organized home. One word of caution - be careful with battery storage. I used to store batteries just thrown in a bin, but that can be dangerous. One day I smelled something weird and opened the drawer to find the bin melted and scorch marks on the drawer. Two batteries touch in just the right way to start a small fire. Fortunately it didn’t spread. I recommend one of those battery organizers. I think we found one on Amazon.
I truly believe they will maintain a system. I love the way they communicate with each other. Mary is such a helpful helper…respectful. When systems make sense, anyone can help put things away. I have zones. Best compliment from my friend’s daughter asking to cook at my house, “I already looked through your kitchen…wow it all makes sense and it took me 30 seconds to know how to function here”. I can see the flow in the basement already.
Ok so I paused the video to comment. I LOVE this series, but what I love MORE is an ad in the beginning for a cat feeder machine when I don’t own a cat because it starred IZZY. I’ve missed her so much. Unfortunately we couldn’t hear her meows but I’ll take anything Izzy has to offer. 🥰
Those black stacking bins would be good for sorting recycling. I use IKEA Sortera bins which work great and are similar in design. The Sortera are great because they stack making good use of the vertical space. I would want to keep that area clear because you moght be carrying something to the basement and don’t want bins in your way.
I can understand that if you don't have good systems in place, a space this big could be overwhelming. But if I had this much room for storage, I'd be a much happier woman!
Cappuccino and a new episode. Yay! Happy Sunday, everyone! Ps. I don't think anyone has been this excited to be in the basement and do decluttering than April! 😁Can't wait to see the results!!
Yay!!!!!!💖 hope you're having fun wherever you are. I'm in 문산 and I'm freezing my butt off. I'm still refusing to turn on the heating so thanks for the cosy distraction😅
You guys are so fun to watch! Colin you seem like a gentle giant. You are so calm and level headed and supportive of your wife. So refreshing to see in a man. Mary, you are also so supportive of Christine. You are non judge mental. Sometimes moms interfere too much in their married kids’ lives, giving their own opinions about things, but you just seem to exude quiet strength. Christine is so blessed to have you both in her life. And yes, April, when Christine and Colin have their baby, can you please share a pic with us. As viewers, we all feel a part of their family😊. You are all doing a great job. I always look forward to your videos.
legit curious, do they need two fridges _and_ an extra freezer? seems like 2 people (even with 1 more on the way) wouldn't need to store that much food at one time, doesn't it just go bad like a lot of the stuff they're finding in the house? I laughed at the wine fridge conversation because they already has two refrigerators they could put wine in lol. Seems like it'd really add to the power bill to run that many fridges.
I have a suggestion. It would bring in so much more light and would feel like the space would open up if the coat and shoes bench was switched around with the shelving unit and fridges (if possible, maybe the fridges could go onto the blue cloud wall instead as it would make more sense visually) that are on the side of the window, close to the green door. Plus if the door opens towards the bench rather than the shelving unit, it would feel more welcoming of an entrance. Another suggestion: everyone should carry a first aid kit in their cars, and if a woman, a small tiny first aid kit in the purse or bag. It helps to have them everywhere so that you aren't going to buy more when not necessary. ;)
I’m assuming they have a plan for where to put the stroller? I don’t know the accessibility of the basement door vs front door, but that basement is a great place to park one! A stroller in the main living space would be a pain! I’m curious if once everything’s organized the space you cleared in this video can serve as a outerwear wardrobe, getting all the coats, jackets, shoes, hats, scarves etc out of the over crowded bedroom? It may just require a habit change of leaving the house out the basement door (even if just a fall/winter habit because of all the outerwear and accessories involved)?
Great progress and I love the mudroom setup.. I was thinking the 3-tiered aqua cart could be used for baby things (diapers, wipes, etc). I've seen moms use them and they say it's convenient. Just a thought. Unless it's needed for craft storage. I have a magenta one for some of my nail art supplies 😊.
The recycling in my opinion should go to where the black shelf is closer to outside door and the black shelf on the blue wall with maybe fridge on blue wall if it would fit. The space looks amazing. Looking forward to rest of series.
April I’m obsessed with you channel your approach to organisation is so refreshing! It’s realistic and helps those who really need it! It’s personally super motivating and the joy I feel adopting your methods and seeing my place become calm , organised and beautiful is priceless. ❤ from Australia!
April, to hear your thought processes and ask questions to evoke awareness has been enlightening. Of course I have to mention how Colin, Christine and mom are so responsive to the process and such awesome people! So happy they are bringing a child into the world and into their family.
This series and Dani's are my favourite and I've watched all of them. Next favourites are your mom and in-laws. Always a fun bonus to see Jackson and Izzy

I can’t wait to see more!!! It is always great when Mary comes over to help. She is a trooper! ❤
Colin did amazing working with you ladies. I appreciate how you talked through all the items and hearing your rationale for keeping and decluttering. Great job all!
Rags towels and be donated to people and animal shelters depending on the condition they are in. These types of places really need those items and it saves them a lot of money.
I know it’s primarily an aesthetic thing, but I wonder if concrete painting the floors would make a difference in terms of both beauty and being motivated to keep the space clean and tidy- though I know with baby on the way that’s not going to be a high priority for some time. But maybe one room at a time eventually?

I agree, as long as there are appropriate outlets on the blue wall.
Love that idea. Then swap shelves and shoe bench to opposite walls, would open up the space and be more functional with more practical flow.
I just love these guys…..they’re willing to move forward and get rid of ALL the stuff!

legit curious, do they need two fridges _and_ an extra freezer? seems like 2 people (even with 1 more on the way) wouldn't need to store that much food at one time, doesn't it just go bad like a lot of the stuff they're finding in the house?
It helps to have them everywhere so that you aren't going to buy more when not necessary. ;)
It’s 6:44am in Arizona, I woke up and told my husband my phone! He says what’s wrong? I said my favorite TH-camr post on Sundays! ❤
My 3 daughters all used a similar cart to have baby & nursing mother items close at hand.
@@donnahilton8924 that's awesome 😊
way to go making space + making designated homes for things :) so satisfying!
Could keep one of the umbrellas in a suitcase, when traveling next.
Great idea!
The recycling in my opinion should go to where the black shelf is closer to outside door and the black shelf on the blue wall with maybe fridge on blue wall if it would fit. The space looks amazing. Looking forward to rest of series.
You guys are doing a great job keep going don't give up as it will be worth it ..
Love all this satisfying sorting. I was itching to put the popcorn into the jars. 😉
Awwww, Izzys so happy now. That’s great
I love how the family functions together great and make a great team. Admirable.
Also I loved that painted blue sky wall. 💙☁️
That start on the basement was everything!😊 And the pet feader could change our lives too, cause our Izzy is called Kuro😂 Thanks❤
❤❤❤❤ so much space!!!
They have made such great progress! The shoe and coat rack is awesome in its new home. I hope the basement can be competed before baby arrives.
Excellent 🎉🎉🎉
It is good to get it more organised
Was desperate waiting, Actually worried there was no video 😂😢😮
Just some technical difficulties, but we're up and running! It's a great episode today!
27:26…..April, did you just say some big bins? Like the black ones that stack? 🤔
Yes, as they were sorting the pile, I thought those black bins would have been helpful.
I adore this family! Mary is so cute whenever she acquires new items😊
Yay watching in OZ 😀
