Primers:
Chaos Black
Grey Seer (zenithal)
FAQ: Adding a light spray of Grey Seer over a full coat of black primer adds a small amount of texture to the primer which gives the contrast paint more to grip on to. It also adds light and shadows which helps define the model more.
Leviathan
Flesh Tearers Red (contrast)
Luxion Purple (contrast)
Nuln Oil (shade)
Pallid Wych Flesh (layer)
Khorne Red (base)

New tyranid models were made for contrast paint, love it.
They really are, anything natural suits them so well
Dude i followed this exactly and fell in love with the results thatnk you for posting this
Aw that’s great to hear, thanks for sharing that with me, and glad you liked the results!
just picked up my starter tyranid kit and looking at what other people have done, i am blown away by it all. cannot wait to get stuck in
Enjoy the journey-it's a lot of fun!
Painted two Warriors in this scheme and it was great! Only dif was an edge highlight of wildrider red on some of the red bits
Sounds ace pal. Glad the video helped.
Omg it looks so good I’m defiantly going to try this! Thanks for sharing with the community!😊
Anytime pal.
Man, I want to make a Hive fleet Hydra with a method similar to this.
Go for it. It will look great.
Love it man, just went to my LGS and got the same paints. Wasn't sure how I wanted to do my 'nids out of the Leviathan box, and this looks quick and awesome
Glad you liked it pal.
I will try this 👍🏻
Awesome pal.
Looks great! Painted body with Dreadfull Visage and Drucii Violet, but there is always another swarm to try! :)
Thanks! Haha yes there’s always more ‘Nids!
Curious if this works on the larger models. Is it a similar process overall?
Cause I want to get a norn model. Not sure which one yet. And I wasn’t so sure.
(Also. Thank you for the Angron 40k model tutorial. It was a MAJOR help. Added my own flare to it. But it was a major help on getting a rough idea of what I wanted to to do.)
Yes, a lot of the steps are exactly the same, and it’s actually easier when the model is bigger, more room for details and it’s easier not to make mistakes as well!
Aw I’m glad the angron tutorial helped! And yes, always add your own flare to tutorials and pick what you like/don’t like from them!
I did two warriors in the scheme and I liked the result (not huge but bigger than this model)
Hey just wanted to say i tried out your technique last night and it did wonders. Think ill switch the shade for the body to Druichi purple over Nuln Oil (still use the oil for weapons and teeth. But i appreciate the video giving me something to start from. Any recommendations for the dry brushing? Like do you have to thin the pallid wych flesh?
Definitely don’t thin it! You need as little of the paint on your brush as possible. I put paint on a dry palette, get a little of the paint on my brush and wipe any excess off on kitchen roll or a textured dry palette if you have one. With dry brushing the key is to build it up rather than applying too much. Apply it against the chitin/scales so the paint gets caught on the edges. I hope that makes sense?
@@MediocreHobbies yes that makes complete sense to me. You want to apply as light as possible on the passes because you can add more but cannot add less for each pass
@@328crash Yes exactly!
What primer did you use for this? Such a great paint job
Chaos black and then grey seer. Cheers pal.
What are they based with? Grey Seer?
Yes indeed.
What did you use for the basing?
Just some textures paint and a little drybrush.
What kind of texture paint did you use on the base or was it something else? Also, that is absolutely gorgeous. :-)
It’s just some PVA glue and thin sand. Then pained dale grey drybrushed a lighter grey black rimmed and then some snow texture pal. Hope that helped.
would you show such a cheap version of tyranids from the behemoth swarm? and a cheap version of painting the Templars (I paint not all month long and I would like to paint them in addition to the orcs) Only less paints because I don't have that much money and I wanted a cheaper one... Thank you in advance
I have videos on all of these already. And I use as little paints as possible I’m afraid.
Quite a pretty tyranid
Cheers man!
What undercoat did you use?
Chaos Black and then a coat of Grey Seer!
@@MediocreHobbies Ty!
Did you mention the base coat ?
Chaos black and then grey seer.
Do you thin your nuln oil or just go for it
Straight oil.
what priming color did you use? grey?
Chaos black and then grey seer.
Does Contrast and Layer paints need to be thinned?
Depends on the project for the layer paints but I never thin contrasts!
Has less steps than other How to paint for beginners videos, but I still cant dicide whats better for gun armor, purple like on tyranid armor or black like on hooves and claws.
Do a test model!
What was that Rec color? It got obscured...
The what colour?
could i spray this in coral white to start with or would this not look very similar thankyou
It would look similar enough. Just a bit brighter.
Did you prime this mini? if so which primer did you use, i'm just getting into war hammer 40k
Chaos Black and a lighter coat of Grey Seer! Check out the full video on this guy for more details if you’re just getting started! Look it up on my channel under ‘tyranid schemes’!
@@MediocreHobbies thank you and i will
What primer is that ? Chaos black & grey seer?
Yep indeed.
What is the undercoat colour/style? (slapchop or zenithal etc)
Grey seer zenithal over chaos black!
@@MediocreHobbies perfect thanks!
what did you use for the skin?
It’s all there in the video and description!
This one still start with the deepshade?
Deep shade? It’s primed with chaos black and grey seer if that’s what you mean?
@@MediocreHobbies Andy, perhaps he means the new AK Interactive deep shades???
What's the prime coat?
Chaos black and a lighter coat of grey seer! There’s a full video on the scheme too!
what primer did you use?
Chaos black and grey seer-it’s in the description!
@@MediocreHobbies ahh ok thank you!
What colour did you prime it?
It’s all in the description!
Just a white undercoat?
Black and then grey seer.
How do you get the black shading on the arms
There’s a full video on it if you can’t see all the steps properly, just look for Tyranid schemes on my channel!
@@MediocreHobbies I'm curious how you get the lines on the carapace, specifically the leviathan theme. I checked the longer video and seems like you only apply the 1 contrast paint. Do the scales on the new models really create the lines on their own with contrast paint, or do you do some layer paint too? If so, which? Looks really good!
is this 3D printed?
Yes indeed.
@@MediocreHobbies nice i love this creators modells. i have a hole army of just his stuff
can you do the same with the other figures with exactly this color scheme? please 😁✌
What do you mean?
@@MediocreHobbies
For example Barbgaunts in the color scheme pls
I'm a total beginner when it comes to painting but I really like your color scheme it's easy and fun I started the color scheme yesterday
@@marcoeichhorn6938 All the steps would be exactly the same for the different models, use the same paint for the same parts like armour etc!
@@MediocreHobbies ok i'll try my luck anyway thanks a lot😁
@marcoeichhorn6938
Also don't drink the paint
